  1. I know it's a total noob question, but what are NSVs?
  2. That is great! Those NSV's are better than the scale number! I notice that mine aren't swelling at the end of the day like they were... still some, but not near as much. I really think all the carbs I used to eat made me retain Water too.
  3. big NSV - me posting these pictures as DH posted pic - he looked at me and said "I don't remember you looking like that." Either do i!!!! strange!!! the times they are a changing i feel like the happiest person in the world I'm enjoying life to the fullest what a great "thing" i did for myself, having WLS DOS 12/15/11 235 lbs 5'3 3/30/13 130 lbs GOAL 59 years young still 5'3
  4. Love that chart...I've been wondering the same thing. I love the term NSV too!
  5. I was in bandster hell and everyone is different. I thought I would have the surgery and poof I would start losing but it took 6 months 4 fills, weigth GAIN and now I think I am in "green zone." Now I love the band I see what everyone is talking about weight is coming off and it provides more motivation to stick with it. Some people don't even need a fill for the first 6 months so I felt like a failure and I was self paid so that was hell thinking I was going to be the one that failed at it. Just go at your own pace no one is the same. Oh and I never new what NSV meant so thank you!
  6. I've been reading the posts on these forums for about a week, since I found this place. I am hopeful the veterans will be able to help us newbies figure out some things. What is bandster hell? What does NSV stand for? Where is the green zone and do I need to buy a membership to get in there? What do you mean my appetite/cravings will come back?! What's the truth about the first month? Two months? Do any of you attend local support group meetings? If so, has it helped? 9 days to bandyland, myself, and wondering about all this stuff.....

    Nsv!!

I did the dance of joy yesterday! My husband and I are going on a 14-day Caribbean cruise in February and I ordered two sundresses online the other day. I tried to guesstimate what size I'd be in Februrary, but it's so hard to do! Before surgery I was a 30/32 on top. I ordered the sundresses NOW because everything summery is on sale (vacation costs really add up!). I ordered myself a 2X - from Old Navy! I couldn't believe I was actually ordering from Old Navy...somewhere other than The Avenue, Lane Bryant, etc. Granted, it's from the Women's Plus section of Old Navy, but who cares. Anyway, the dresses arrived yesterday. They're actually a little TOO big! I can't believe it! I was so excited I was dancing around my husband's shop (he's a mechanic). The scale still says I weigh A LOT, but I don't care. I've always weighed heavy (I'm big boned), so I'm just going with my dress size and how I look and feel! I don't even care that these dresses may be too big in February. Whoop whoop!

    Nsv

Congrats! Can't wait until I'm there. I'm stuck in 20s for now. But I had a NSV a couple of days ago. I went to a dancehall and was actually asked to dance! That's never happened before. The poor guy had to teach me lol.

    NSV shares

Well this is not exactly a true NSV but I don't know where else to share it. It is an emotional victory for me. See I doubt myself at v times. The victory I'm claiming is: varification and clairification I'm approaching things in thus journey correctly. Although my weight is not flying away on this PreSurgery diet I am losing inches, my exercise tolerance is better, I'm walking farther without having to stop and take a rest, the weight I'm losing I'm not flabby-dying with, sure my blobs are already derounding and getting a little more sock-like, if necessary I'll install a seat belt retractor in my bra cups. At least I'm not to the point where they flop over the top or slither out underneath. If my diet one day is not as perfect as I would like, that's a stumble not a complete fall. Don't sit around crying or emotionally beating myself up, I just puck myself up, dust myself off, learn from the mistake and move on toward the final goal. Weight loss, surgery, lifestyle changes, they are all possible and within my reach. The is a lot of gusto left in life for me and I intend to enjoy it until my last breath. Its a pretty, bright not too hot day in Ohio today, so let's see what's in store for ME.😝

    Severe Osteoarthritis-Knees

Check out the NSV post by TJMOM. She was using a wheelchair before surgery. Now she's walking and being active in only a few months. Taking the weight off helps tremendously.

    NSV for a newbie WOOHOO!

One NSV I have had, keeping with the car theme........... I hate pumping gas so much. I am very lucky that my hubby usually will do it for me. But for those times when he isn't around and I have to do it I have to get out of the car to reach the release for gas door. Well the other day my daughter who recently got her permit offered to fill my tank for me. She went around towards the pump and instead of asking her to hit the release for the gas tank I just reached down and did it. Afterwards I stopped and said to myself, "I just was able to reach down and release my gas tank!!" I know it is a simple thing but to me it was huge!! It has only been 4 weeks since my surgery and I have had a ton of these moments. I can't wait to see what other NSV's I have along the way as I lose more weight!!
  12. I am working so hard to try to lose 100lbs by my 6 month check up that while I was talking with my mom yesterday I realized that from my heaviest weight I have ever seen on a scale (329) which was probably about 3 months before my supervised 6 month diet I am DOWN 101lbs!!! This made me pretty happy, I am still plugging along and doing good but it's so funny how something just hits you! I really love this Ah-Ha moments. Also at work yesterday I went into the break room for lunch and put my stuff down on a table and went to sit down. I noticed that where I was there was a chair with arms instead of one with no arms. Normally I would of switched the chairs around, but I looked at that chair and I sat down in it and had plenty of room. LOVE LOVE LOVE that!!! I still giggle out loud every single time I slide into a booth and fit just fine. My family thinks it's cute!! LOL Hope this post finds you all having a great day!!!

    My small and pathetic NSVs!

Congratulations, Dawg! NSVs make it all worthwhile. :biggrin1:

    Downsizing & dress size

I think that a lot of it depends upon your body shape. I am 5'6" and now weigh 179 lbs but I have broad shoulders and I like to wear loose tops; thus I still wear a 3x but I look a lot better in them now. I have lost a lot of weight off my gut and waist and my boobs now stick out farther than my potbelly. This is great! but I still take a fairly large pant size compared to some of the other women who post here because I am thick-waisted. I always was, even when I was thin. This is kind of a drag for me. The NSVs come slower for me but on the other hand my arms and legs are quite slender.

    Secrets...

Congratulations on your surgery! I had surgery 6/5/09 and have lost 73 pounds since. I don't know if I have any secrets, but here's what's been working for me: 1. Get your Fills- The band doesn't work if you're not restricted. It took me like 8 fills to get restriction, so don't give up. You'll have to go through bandster hell - just accept it and realize that you'll lose when you get restriction. 2. I don't diet. My philosophy with the band is this is something I will live with for the rest of my life. I'm not going to live deprived and grumpy on an eternal diet. I do focus on getting my protein then vegetables, but if I want a cookie, I eat it and move on. I know some would disagree with this, but it works for me. 3. Get Support!! This is huge. I get support from my family, my Dr.'s office and a great blogging community. I started a blog right before surgery and it's an amazing community. This site is great too. 4. Identify your NSV's (non scale victories). This will really help when the scale's not moving as fast as you'd like. Putting on old jeans in the back of your closet or running a mile can really keep your spirits up. 5. Find some "go to" foods that help with protein intake and the urge to snack on junky things. Mine are greek yogurt, string cheese, Baby Bell light cheese, mini Luna bars and Zone bars. Good luck! This is a great post - I can't to see what others write.

    first stall

I was sleeved 1-23-14 one week is not a stall trust me I thought that too and people with more time told me the same now that I'm 6 months out and have had no movement of the scale in a month This is a stall very frustrating but the "vets" told me it happens and to look at measurements and non scale victories and soon the stall would break I have seen my measurements come down still and I've had a couple NSV Hang in there you guys we are all gonna make it through this
  17. I think I was so unhappy with myself that it did put a strain on my marrige. Like most couples we still have all the same issues IE money , teenager, hard work evrey day on and on. But I feel so much better about myself now that I am much happier in my marrige and life style. One of my main reason for getting the Lap Band, was to be able to participate more in my own life. I can now walk with my hubby and daughter and keep up and go ahead sometimes intead of sitting on the couch with a glass of wine I go to Zumba. I love that every day is a new NSV. I still have a long ways to go but I know I will make it in time. So I think it has made my relationship with my husband and daughter soooo much better. When the times get hard I can handle it so much better now. I have a new inner strength. This helps me deal and cope so much better than before. On that note I will say it aint easy LOL. Good luck on the 15th.

    NSV

Yay! to all! My best NSV, was when I was bowling last Sunday. We were discussing the next week, and I said well Sunday is my birthday, so not sure if we will come. Then I went to bowl. The lady on the other team asked my son how old I was going to be, he said 63. She said "wow! She doesn't look a day over 50." He told me this later on. Man, I was like do I feel great or what. Karen
  19. I went in for my 6 month check up today and I have lost 75% of my excess weight. I am only 28 pounds from goal and I am down 5 sizes (20 -> 12). I feel great, I look great and I am oh so happy with myself. I can move better, I am exercising because I WANT to and I haven't been happier than I am right now in I don't know how long. So what dumbass move did I make today? I signed up for a Rugged Maniac that's coming to my town in the spring. WOOT!!! I am so excited. It's a 5k with 24 tough and muddy obstacles to conquer. There are walls to scale, fire pits to jump, logs to hop, ropes to climb, mud pits, nets... I am so freaking excited!!! What a HUGE NSV for me!!! Just the fact that I signed up and am ready to go for it tells me how far I've come in my confidence within myself physically and that's thrilling. The fact that my two girls (they will be 14 and 16 when the race comes) are doing it with me makes me giddy. What a wonderful memory this will make for us. I'm hoping hubby joins in, too!! My goal is to get within five pounds of goal by the time the event is here. The obstacles are pretty team oriented and there is always someone there to give you a hand up (or a push up if they are behind you) and it's about having fun more so than it is competitive. I think it would be much easier for someone to give my 150 pound ass up a 12 foot wall than where I am right now. And if I don't need help? EVEN BETTER!!!! www.ruggedmaniac.com If you want to check out pics!!
  20. Am not in the best of moods as I write this. It's 12:18am, I've had a busy day and I cant get tucked up nice and warm in my bed.:phanvan Why? :Banane59: Well, I live on a pretty little square in Athens, it has trees and a fountain and makes me happy. It has a downside though...we live above a store. Doesn't belong to us. It was rented out before Christmas and the guy made a taverna! It didn't bother us too much until he decided, to drum up business, he'd have live music on a Saturday night.:think Drives me nuts. I'm on the 1st floor and his little stage is right below my bedroom. So I thought I'd come and waffle. (waffle to me being writing about anything, everything and nothing in particular.) I'm having a good time with my mum visiting and she is being really good at motivating me to get out and walk. We went shopping today..the first time I've ever been to the local shops with her. We were going to go into Athens to Monesteraki which is the place below the Acropolis but Athens was closed off today. :faint: There was a big anti war rally and no taxis would go near the place. We will try and go on Tuesday instead. I'm doing OK and the weight loss continues to be steady. I get weighed Sunday mornings (tomorrow) so I'll see what the new total is and if I'm happy with it. I haven't been an angel this week...nibbled a few chips and a piece of chocolate but I haven't been a disaster either. I have walked each day and my back is definitely easier. I wore some jeans today I couldnt wear before. They are still not perfect but wearable! My knee support bandage fits better now too which is the silliest NSV but hey I takes what I can get That's about it for now...maybe later!
  21. How's this for a non-scale victory? When I woke up this morning, I felt absolutely great! That never used to happened. Now it happens all the time. My mood is terrific, I have energy, my stomach feels flat(er), I even feel taller. Before getting the band, I was very nervous. I had serious fears and doubts about it, so I googled "band" + "regret". I got a bunch of results of people posting "My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner!" And now, that's exactly how I feel. I love you Lap-Band!
  22. Silly me but what is an NSV? And I am pretty sure I can't wait for one
  23. Although I've lost during my post-op my surgeon told me at my one week check up to expect a gain during this time! He told me that it is totally natural. So don't give it any mind! Just heal! Drink plenty of fluids and if your like me who mentally feels like I have to go to the bathroom everyday my Dr suggested Miralax in my water! I think about my pre surgery life and if I got on the scale even once a month I most likely wouldn't be in this position! So take a break from the scale and look for some Non Scale Victories (NSV)!!! Like I have not needed a Prilosec since I had my surgery and my BP is almost normal!
  24. Oooh! I love rollercoasters! I've been too afraid to even try them for years. What a fantastic day you had and there is nothing better than the adoration of your children! Big thumbs up for this NSV!
  25. I know what you mean... I heard a lot of crap for having it done, even though they told me I looked good ? Weather they liked it or not, or approved of it or not. I did it for me ! I planned on living a while. Now people are starting to tell me that I look good again, and the biggest NSV that I got the other day, was that someone wants to come over to my house, and talk to me about the Band, Because they have seen the success, that I have had, and they know that I did the right thing.... How's that for a Twist in the Band Story.
