3rd day R-N-Y oost-op protein shakes question. Premier Protein shakes OK?
shedo82773 replied to Roadblock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I did Premier Protein drinks for my preop 2 weeks and 4 weeks postop. Now I did have "the back door trots" BAD!!! Finally, my Dr said that I was more than likely Lactose intolerant. Sure enough. But fast forward to 6 months ago, I found GENEPRO non flavored Protein!! I LOVE it!! I drink coffee I am a coffee big time drinker. So I add 1 scoop of GENEPRO to my coffee every day and it doesn't change the taste at all!! So for me it is a WIN WIN!! It has 30grams of protein so YAY ME!!! Now some people say that it doesn't have that much protein in it but I have read things on it and there was nothing about it not being 30grams. Also, how could they sell it without it having it? I will continue my use. I have fallen short on my protein forever and this has helped me so much. BTW Isopure is YUKKY. I commend anyone that can drink it. LOL -
I guess Protein is a very personal taste. I haven't found one that truly has no taste and doesn't change the consistency of what you mix it with. I personally find the very good volume to protein ratio of GENEPRO (one tbl spoon for 30 gram) is what makes a difference. In OJ the strong taste and consistency make it really easy to take every morning. Combined with a Greek yogourt you can start your day with 40 grams of protein without any fuss... Protein supplements - What is the highest # of protein with the lowest volume to have to drink?
KristenLe replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the same problem but nowhere near 75gms of protein. I just ordered Genepro unflavored protein to add to my mushy foods or drinks. I'm drinking Isopure pre-made protein drink for now. -
Protein supplements - What is the highest # of protein with the lowest volume to have to drink?
Sai replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't drink any Protein drink, pre-made or otherwise. I'm a big fan of unflavored protein if I find myself running low on protein. Maybe get some unflavored protein and add it to your purees/drinks. I use GENEPRO but others here like Isopure and many others. -
I hate genepro- it def has a strong taste and changes the consistency of drinks- though I have never tried it in orange juice. I am trying unjury next Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@eso GENEPRO is my favorite. If you buy it, make sure you go to the Musclegen Research website, they have great instructions for how to best blend it into different temperature foods.

I also agree on GENEPRO. It has been a life saver for me. I had several ups & downs with not being able to eat during the first 2 months. My surgeon said as long as I took my Vitamins & drank Protein, I would be ok. I hated the Bariatric Advantage & couldn't tolerate the unjury. I found that I liked cherry crystal light with the Genepro. Each scoop is 30 protein & I was getting 8 oz Water - bonus! It's been over 3 months now & I can eat anything. I do have a craving for Kraft Zesty Italian lite, so I have lots of salads. I've lost 55 lbs & have 35 to go. Hope that helps. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The four cals per gram is the issue. It's a misconception. If you take a look at Genepro's website they have a video explaining their process. It's actually quite clear and scientifically proven. Their process is very advanced and fascinating. And for the record I don't work there or know them or anything lol. I'm from Canada and it's expensive to buy here, but it's worth it IMHO. My personal problem with GENEPRO is that their nutrition label does not "add up". There is 4 calories in 1 gram of Protein. 1 scoop has 30 grams of protein...there should, at a minimum, be 120 calories in 1 scoop...but 1 scoop only contains 98 calories....which means that the protein in genepro is somehow being manufactured in a manner that is not natural...on the flip side...all max protein is manufactured in Canada (a country that is very stringent in the supplement market with nutritional information) and their protein has 28 grams per scoop with 115 total calories (112 for pure protein and 3 grams of "fillers)....you simply do not know what u are getting in genepro Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Agree on the GENEPRO. It's great. Very small amount of OJ and it's easy to handle. Mix with a fork and it's virtually imperceptible. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am now using GenePro. No flavor I can detect, so one very small scoop in V8 works great. I do not like the milky taste of Bariatric Advantage. Right now I am adding Hershey's Unsweetened COcoa Powder with barely any calories, and. truvia, to shakes. By far my favorite protest shake.

I like unjury and genepro

I just came from my 1 week post-op appointment. All is good. Down to 266 lbs (on Drs scale). I was able to start mushy food today and enjoyed a little bowl of scrambled eggs for breakfast. After 3 weeks of liquids - the eggs were exceptional! We went grocery shopping after the Drs and just walking through the store wiped me out. Going to try some refried Beans in a little bit. I am doing great with fluids - not so great with Protein. Ordering some GENEPRO to help with meeting protein goals. Hope all the October Sleevers are doing well!

I've been using Genepro and overall love the product. I have noticed a calorie difference of 57 to 98 calories for the same scoop but different containers. Does anyone know why?
-
When I started this process my bmi was 48. I was sleeved on Oct. 4 and my bmi was 39. I'm now three weeks out, and still having difficulties getting in my protein and fluids. I can go for hours without eating as I'm not hungry. Then when I do eat something, I can't drink for well over an hour or I become uncomfortable. I'm afraid that the lack of fluids and protein is hindering my weightloss, as well as causing lack of energy and lightheadedness. I've loss 14 pounds since surgery. I've spoken. With my nut and she says I need to keep trying to get the fluid and protein. Looking for ideas? I just ordered genepro too, so hoping that will help with protein.

Harder than I thought

I, too, have had problems with things not tasting good anymore. Ive had trouble with most of the fake sweetener and cant get down pure Water yet. I always have to have ice tea, Powerade, diluted juice. Most of the crystal lights i used to enjoy taste blech to me. As far as the foods, have you tried experimenting? Have you found something you kinda like and swapped out ingredients to find a better balance/flavor? I have a hard time with most of the shakes but GENEPRO doesnt bug me for the most part and i really enjoy the muscle milk coffee house. HW 385 SW 359 CW 344 Sleeved 10/5/16 -

If you are LACTOSE INTOLERANT are you able to tolerate any WHEY PROTEIN ?
blazermom replied to blazermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THANKS EVERYONE! I gave it a shot! Had hubby get me some GENEPRO Medical Grade flavorless whey protein from GNC. It includes enzymes to help break down the protein I guess. Apparently from what GNU rep said many do and they are listed on label since whey is difficult to break down for everyone( who knew!!) Tried it last night a couple times and tolerated it very well. I'd recommend this brand. I was even able to sprinkle on JELLO and wasn't any taste (to me anyway) Hving it in c.f. iced tea now. 1 tBsp is 30g of protein. I think this will go a LONG WAY in helping me get my protein in daily! -
I can barely get in my meals and fluids, am I supposed to be able to get in Snacks as well? I have my post op appointment next week and I am afraid I'm doing this wrong. I am on puréed food Typical day Premier Protein shake for Breakfast Cottage cheese mixed with GENEPRO Protein powder for lunch Homemade hummus for dinner And Water in between about 1.5 litres Am I eating enough? I love GENEPRO!!!! I use it in my coffee everyday!! I only wish I would have found it sooner!!

I've used GENEPRO for a long time. All my labs have been perfect. I use it in my kefir shakes and coffee. Sometimes I put it in Soup. I'm not going to go down that path again about the chemistry of Genepro (I'm a long time Protein purification chemist.) but I assure you that you PA wasn't wrong in recommending it.

Failure, forgiveness & getting real
theantichick replied to Nibbler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have used GENEPRO. I don't find it completely tasteless, but more importantly it changes the texture of things I put it in and makes it unpalatable for me. The best I did with it was to mix it up with a small amount of Water and add it to chicken broth. That went down quite well. However, my daughter has started drinking fruit smoothies in the mornings, and throws the genepro in and she says she can't tell it's there. I'm trying different things to put it in hoping to find something that goes down easily. I got samples of a bunch of different Protein shakes, and even though I liked one really well pre-op, I didn't tolerate it post-op and had to switch to Premier Protein for my morning "get the protein started" Breakfast.
