Hi. I had my ESG on June 15th. I agree with you, it doesn’t make sense and mine was for 21 days. At day 15th, I was doing great and added sugar free pudding, Greek yogurt and hummus. No issues. I’m now a day past week 4. My weight loss has slowed tremendously, but everyone or majority slow down or have a 2 to 3 week stall. But it’s still about the calorie deficit. I’ve started with weights but I know I need more cardio. With the liquid diet I was too exhausted but now I’ve added other soft foods and energy is coming back. Unlike sleeve or bypass, my doctor has released me to do any workouts. We don’t have the staples or stomach cuts.

What’s your pre-op weight goal? Is this something the doctor asks for or something you want? How is it determined? (I have so many questions. Lol. Sorry!) My diet is all liquids with only 1 Greek yogurt,1 egg or 1 jello a day allowed (as a non-liquid) so I keep going back and forth on starting 1 week early.

Your surgery recovery sounds like mine-i went from liquids to puréed almost immediately after surgery. After surgery, i had things like hummus, ricotta cheese (google ricotta cheese bake for recipe), refried beans, chicken chopped up with a little Greek yogurt etc.

Hey August Buddies! I wanted to share my results so far in starting my mock trial liquid diet to see how well it goes for me. Basically, to test to make sure I can hit all my macros and protein, I don't put it in my mouth if it does not have some version of protein in it. So far I have felt very satisfied and not felt too hungry. If I do get hungry, then I drink more water with the Liquid Protein and it satisfies me. What my days are consisting of: Breakfast 1 cup of coffee with 1 Tbsp of cream and 1 teaspoon of Skinny mix and 1 scoop of college protein Take all my supplements and vitamins Water with Electrolytes Oikos triple zero yogurt watered down Organic Plum Stage 1 Babyfood (OMG - soooo good!) Lunch 2-ounce puck of strained Bear Creek Cheddar Broccoli soup with 2 TBSP of grass-fed Whey protein ( I also made chicken noodle soup and potato soup pucks so I have a variety) 1 Keto Chow protein shake with 1 cup Almond Milk Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Snack 1 Premiere Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Dinner 1 complete SF Jello box with Liquid Protein Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes My program may be completely different from yours, but I wanted to share what is so far working for me. I'm down 4 pounds since Sunday and have not been hungry and very satisfied. Average daily calories 850, Avg protein 120 grams, average net carbs 58 (primarily from yogurt and fiber carbs) I feel really good that my protein levels increased to over 50% when I implemented the liquid protein. So easy to consume with your water! Lots of Love to My August Buddies!! ❤️

Hi Meshia, I had bypass on 6/21 too! I’m so sorry to hear you got sick on the purée phase. How are you feeling now? I’m vegetarian, so I’ve been sticking to cottage cheese, string cheese, low-fat yogurt and refried beans (soupy). No, it’s not weird to have cravings at all! I definitely have them, although I’m not really hungry. I’m dreaming of the day I can have a small slice of cheesecake again and a piece of pizza, probably on different days. Every time I really start thinking about food that I want but can’t have yet, I try to refocus on how much weight I’ve lost and how my clothes are getting baggier on me. I find this helps redirect my focus. I’ve lost 17 pounds since surgery so far. I hope this helps and gives a little insight to someone else’s experience who’s on the exact same timeline. 😊 Here’s what my doctor allows at this stage: • Thinly sliced deli meats such as turkey, chicken, ham • Low fat string cheese, Skim ricotta cheese, feta • Soft fish – not dry or overcooked • Canned chicken and tuna (you may mix it up with a bit of plain yogurt, mustard or low fat mayonnaise) • Boiled shrimp (try a little cocktail sauce but be careful of taking too much because the sugar in it might make you dump – see “Dumping Syndrome”) • Pan-seared scallops (lime or lemon juice is okay) • Real or imitation lobster and crab (no real butter, but try imitation flakes) • Egg salad (use plain yogurt, mustard or lowfat mayonnaise, or even salsa – the finely pureed kind) • Tofu • Low fat hot-dog (no bun) • Well cooked beans and legumes -
Hi everyone... had my surgery on July 6th - Gastric Bypass. I am doing well. It definitely wasn't as terrible as I had pictured in mind. It's been pretty easy actually. No pain or pain meds. Incisions areas just sore/tender but that's it. Getting around 60 ounces of liquid + 1 jello cup + 2 teaspoons of yogurt + a little broth. Knock on wood, haven't had any nausea or vomiting. I was a nervous wreck 2 days before and even that morning was still anxious but not as nervous as the day before. Excited to see where this journey takes. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any.

I recently discovered Sweet Baby Rays sugar free Hickory BBQ sauce which isn’t bad at all. Not quite as sweet as regular BBQ but it satisfied the craving. Then I learned here this morning that G Hughes makes a whole line of sugar free sauces, marinades and dressings. Just wondering if anyone else has tried those or has any other brands that they thought were good. I am trying to find a lower calorie versions to replace each of my pre surgery favorites (it’s amazing how many calories are in condiments). So far I have found a pretty good replacement for My ranch by Bolthouse farms. It’s not sugar free, but It’s made with yogurt so it is 50 calories a serving and that SBR BBQ sauce is 15 calories a serving but the G Hughes one is only 5 so hopefully that is just as good or better. Anyways, what lower calorie dressings and sauces do you buy? Or do you just budget for the good stuff??

Trouble eating food after bypass
sparkly_keeks replied to littledoobz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey surgery twin, I had my bypass on May 18th too! I struggle with sharp pain like my esophagus is clogged, right after eating food that's too dry or chewy. I find I am mostly still in the soft food stage. A huge portion of my diet is greek yogurt and cottage cheese, which I have to eat incredibly slowly. Literally one spoonful at a time and then a long pause in between bites to make sure my stomach is not going to cause any drama for me. I think with many bypass patients, it can be a long healing process to get to the point where we can eat most foods comfortably. -
Olive oil dispense and measure bottle
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ordered this and it DID work for my salad dressing in terms of it being thicker. The only thing I didn’t like is that the cap is not air tight so once the dressing is up in the lid I worry about it not being sealed. I use yogurt dressing so I’m not sure that’s safe. I’m sure for oil it will be fine though. I just washed it out and I’m going to put olive oil in it and stick to my little disposable containers for my dressing. -
Meal preppers - looking for some advice/suggestions
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Tufflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do love me some meal prep! Things I’ve learned- individual Greek yogurts while more expensive are easier for “no spoon” days. I usually add homemade granola or a 100 calorie pack of nuts and fruit for a quick protein packed meal. cooking a protein bland for the first cook makes customized meals easier later. A beef roast in beef broth can later be made into shredded beef for tacos, BBQ beef, or korean beef bowls. I love soup! I’ll usually make a batch on my meal prep days and either put it in the fridge or freeze it. Scrambled eggs (so they’re still glossy and not rubbery- most people overcook scrambled eggs) are great to put into meal prep containers with a couple sausage links or patties and microwaved later in the week. Hard boiled eggs are another great option. Just peel and store in the fridge for up to a week. They’re good as egg salad or on salads. Use a lettuce knife- it’s a special knife made of nylon with serrated edges that cuts lettuce so it doesn’t oxidize. This keeps lettuce longer over the week after you prep it so it doesn’t get brown and yucky. -

Peach parfait: plain Greek yogurt, fresh peach, granola and local honey (the pic I take to post vs they way I actually eat it 😂) -
Wow, we have a stunning woman in our forum. Well done on your journey so far. Try a little boiled egg mashed with mayo. Try and find some protein yogurt you like, try it with mashed strawberry or other berry fruit. It helps the bowels. I had to resort to tinned soups with the bigger bits squashed with a fork. Many have mashed potato and gravy but it wasn't for me. Hummus is good especially if you can eat it with mashed avocado. I was allowed crispy melba toast as it melted in the mouth. You can always go back a stage if you are struggling, its your journey, just keep up your protein quota

Pre-PreOP Diet and Appointment Jitters
ShoppGirl replied to LRSB's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I seriously doubt they will say anything about your gain unless they specifically told you not to gain? Our weights fluctuate and they know that. My pre op diet wasn’t bad. I was allowed 2 shakes and then a lean protein low carb dinner (meat and veggies). Plus we had free foods like jello and pickles we could have if we just had to eat something. If I remember correctly we could chose between shakes and yogurt. And we were allowed to have broth. I didn’t love it but I wasn’t starving at all. Even if your is more strict because of your liver you just gotta keep your eye on the prize. I know I could do anything for a week or two in order to change my life for the better. And during that diet, if it gets a little touch check out the thread called “weirdest non scale victories” and see some of the changes you have to look forward to post surgery. Also, whenever you want to eat, hop on here and get talking. We are here to help you through it. -
I did hummus and avocado spread. Just a spoonful of each. Maybe even try some sugar free pudding or greek yogurt. Definitely start off slow and go from there.

I can actually have pudding, oatmeal, cottage cheese and yogurt in my full liquid stage. I think my doctor is very different than most considering I didn’t have to do a liquid diet pre-op either.

Stand still for 3-4 months now

Also forgot to add that I am trying to stop snacking. I have a cheese stick here, protein chips, yogurt, fruit, cottage cheese. My guilt has been Teddy Grahams and Ritz baked and thin chips. I know this is bad and is probably the cause of my long long stall. I do see inches coming off however. -
As you found out, I'm on purees. 200 cals from protein powder alone (50g). Then cream of wheat, soup, yogurt, pudding, peanut butter powder and food boredom making up the rest.

i try to stay away from olive oil because of the calories but I will have to try the cold sauce another day. I am out of yogurt and don’t like Mayo. But it sounds good, thanks. I did find a recipe online that sorta jazzes up the fake butter I may try for tonight since I have the ingredients. -

You could try a mixture of olive oil, lemon, and garlic with fresh cracked black pepper. When you go to eat it cold try a mixture of low-fat Mayo (or yogurt), lemon, salt and a dash of hot sauce. It’s the sauce they use for cold lobster rolls. I’m kind of a snob though when it comes to fats and the only time I willfully eat margarine is in my mom’s no bake cookies. -
Made myself feel awful.. old habits die hard

I agree that it’s not really self sabotage unless you actually intended to harm or sabotage yourself. Don’t beat yourself up, Just try to learn from your mistake and do better today. Have you tried searching for a sugar free or no sugar added alternative? I have found Many sugar free or no sugar added options out there that honestly don’t taste bad. I had sleeve so I don’t have issues with sugar, but I found Yasso Greek yogurt bars that are only 100 calories and satisfy my sweet cravings. They do have some sugar 13g total and 9g added sugars? I am pretty sure that’s quite a bit LESS than regular ice cream though. I don’t have any ice cream to compare it to. Okay I just searched Walmart real quick and it is less than regular ice cream but Klondike makes no sugar added desert bars that have even less. 6g of sugar per bar (11g of sugar alcohol. I’m not sure how that plays into it). Also, Bryers makes no sugar added with 5g sugar and 10g sugar alcohol (salted caramel flavor). I personally like the idea of the bars cause it’s already portioned out for us. Most but Not all products have the nutrition info online so a little research and hopefully you can find an option that will work for you. If you live near a Publix I have found that they tend to carry a wider variety and have more of the healthier options (compared to walmart). Trader Joe’s and Aldi are supposed to be good for healthy options too but I don’t have either of those I am, of course, not advocating that you eat ice cream this early out but i will admit that I tried a few treats just to see if I could eat them once I got to regular food such as chocolate, pizza and pasta. For me it was a mindset thing. Once I knew I could tolerate them in small amounts and eventually have them later it was that much easier to do without them until maintenance. Everyone is different though. All we can do is what we think is best for us. I hope this helps -
Olive oil dispense and measure bottle
ShoppGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone tried one of these? I’m thinking of using it for salad dressing but wonder if the creamy ones would be too thick?? It has the tablespoon measurements on it which would be great to measure out a serving if it works. I found them on Amazon. They are made for oil and vinegar but I want to use it for my yogurt ranch. I may get one just for thanksgiving day though cause my husband uses olive oil for the Turkey and I want him to see just how much he uses. Lol edited to add link Superior Glass Oil and Vinegar Dispenser,Measuring Oil Pourer for Kitchen,Wide Opening for Easy Refill and Cleaning, Clear Glass Oil Bottle with Scale,8.5 Oz https://a.co/d/fpL2fcS -
Transitioning from shakes to food
ShoppGirl replied to Candigrl1's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was advised to slowly decrease the Shakes as I was able to eat larger portions. If you can only eat an ounce of chicken you aren’t going to be able to get enough protein from food. Well technically if you also eat a bunch of yogurt you can but you get my point. I am over a year out and still have a shake for breakfast everyday but that’s more for convenience and cause I like the taste of it (the caffe latte by premiere protein) many people get off them alltogether. But my advice would be to calculate your protein (not counting the shakes and yogurt) for a week or so and see if you consistently get to 30 or 60 or something like that and drop a shake as you can or just calculate for each day if you eat a lot of variety and have a shake or yogurt as a late snack if you need it. -
Question??? How did you transition from mostly using shakes to getting your protein from food sources? I started really tracking what I am eating due to my 3 week stall. I'm noticing that due to my milk allergy that most of the shakes and yogurts I eat are a bit higher in carbs and calories than I would like and noticed I am more reliant on the shakes than food to get my protein in. How hard was the transition? Should I gradually start eliminating the shakes? Thanks for any info you could share.

Things I can eat on vacation 6 weeks post-op
lizonaplane replied to Rosebud32's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It really depends on where you're going to be traveling. In the US? You can probably stop at a Walgreens/CVS/Grocery store and buy some Fairlife Core Power drinks. Hummus and cheese from a grocery store if your hotel has a fridge or you're staying at someone's house. Refried beans from a Mexican restaurant. Flaky fish. Chili (no raw onions on top!). Low sugar Greek yogurt. I traveled for work most weeks starting at 5 weeks out from surgery. It can get boring and repetitive, but by six weeks out you're probably eating real food, just very little of it. Stay away from chicken breast and steak. Ground meet and flaky fish are your friends. Tofu would be good too. Don't try to be perfect in terms of avoiding sugar/fat in sauces; just make the best practical choices. I did a lot of butter and cheese sauces.
