Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery
Serengirl replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
SCREAM TO THE ROOFTOPS... I sure do. I BLOWS and yes i totally get it. Its like well if its just going to come off this slow why the heck did i do this to myself because i can stay the same exact weight and and eat fries and pasta se veal times a week and stay the exact same weight so its mind-blowing to eat 500-600 calories and stay the EXACT same weight. it slick what the cruel hell is this life....so yeah. B*thch as much as you want its better than holding it in and better than eating your feelings which won't do either if us any good. Ill let you know if any of my "experiments work" like one week getting in a gallon of water a day.... and then one week maybe try an all day fast...? maybe that will work... Im open to suggestions and yeah it is NOT FAIR. I have even though maybe I should have gotten RNY or the bypass but this could have happened with that too and then id be REALLY PISSED. lol... To be fair i think with your loss you are still "average" in weight loss and i think there are a bunch of us like that but we dont post our losses like the people who lose 8lbs every week, ya know what I mean? But its BS when people try to say tweak your callers because how low can you go when you're averaging 500-700 to begin with. -
Who will you tell (or not tell) about WLS?
Sheribear68 replied to ChubRub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny how each of us approaches this differently. It’s also a shame that we have to have this conversation. Think about it— if someone were to need surgery to have an appendectomy, a hysterectomy or have a tumor removed or have any other physical condition corrected there wouldn’t be this level of discussion. But WLS is still so judged. No matter where people are— whether they’ve never struggled with obesity or have struggled their entire lives, they will be all over the spectrum from extremely positive to negative. I’m generally a pretty open person, but sharing this is difficult. I too find myself more able to share with complete strangers than with people I’ve known. Maybe bc I don’t have anything invested in the strangers. I’m also a natural empath and I feel like I can read most people when they comment or ask. If one of my patients comments and I can sense that they genuinely care and are concerned (I am after all a cancer survivor and a lot of people know that) then I tell them briefly about the WLS and that I’m “okay” and “not sick again” If I feel as if the person commenting doesn’t deserve the info, then I tell them I’m on a medically supervised diet and exercise regimen. When the inevitable “oh, so you’re doing keto?” comment follows, I nod and tell them “yes” because I don’t eat carbs anyway due to the restriction so I figure that’s as accurate as I need to be. There are some patients I have who are MO and weirdly enough, many of them don’t ask. Maybe they already know, but I think mostly they understand the burden of MO and know better than to ask or comment. Almost every single of my close friends are MO, and they all knew. Sadly most of them are avoiding my right now, but that’s the topic of another thread and I’m working my way through that -

So I’ve been thinking about all of this and I’m wondering where my body will choose to settle in. When I set my GW at 155, it was primarily bc for my height that put me just at the upper edge of normal BMI. I also thought that there was no way in hell I would actually get to this weight bc I knew it would mean losing >80-90% of my excess fat and since I was choosing sleeve, I knew that was going to be extremely difficult. Well here I am at this weight and I have no plans to get on the scale this week bc I’m trying not to focus on the number as much as my body. Besides, if I have any kind of gain I don’t want to freak out over it. My plan now is to focus on increasing carbs and calories and if I see a gain it will be counterproductive. If I’m very honest with myself (and I MUST be for this to work long-term) I’m hoping for and expecting another 5-10 pound weight loss over the next 2-3 months bc if I actually gain or don’t continue to lose weight at

Thanks for saying this bc I definitely didn’t feel tiny today. Yeah the jacket is yet another consignment store find. I get 15% off on my bday month, so I’m definitely hitting it again before the month ends

I’m thinking about it. There’s another clinic actually closer to me that I didn’t use bc they weren’t on my insurance. My goal between now and the end of the month is to try my hardest to find a local group

Nothing except for TRE The main reason I do TRE is because even now it’s tough to get in Water if I start eating before noon. From when I wake til noon, I drink 2/3 of my water for the day bc once that first meal hits, I can’t hold both. As I continued TRE, the structure of it provided me with emotional support. It really empowers me to make better choices when I have a set eating window For now I’m going to stick with the TRE only and we will see what the next few weeks bring

February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Here is one example of the saggy neck and wrinkles where I never had them before. I’ll be honest though and say that even if I knew how much older in the face this would make me look, I’d still do it 100/100 times. So I had to endure breast cancer and I got new boobs out of it 10 years ago. This time I’ll endure this and get a facelift out of it. I’ve actually started working on a budget and pricing different procedures. I’m more than likely going towards an S-lift, but won’t know for sure until I have a consult. Which will still be after the first of the year. I want to make absolutely for sure that I’m well and good out of my honeymoon period and that weight loss is stopped before making any decisions. Even if I lost just another 10-15 pounds it could make a huge difference. Besides, it will give me more time to save up. Gaby, I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with your endoscopy. Please keep us posted. Emzbe, I was fine until about a month ago, and now I’m definitely needing laxative help. Not sure why my bowels have waited til now to go into lockdown mode, but it’s a daily struggle. I need to get more aggressive in treating it, because I’ve noticed that when things are super backed up I can barely eat more than 1/2 cup food w/o feeling ill, but then I’m hungry again 3-4 hours later and it’s frustrating bc I feel as if it’s throwing me off of my TRE regimen. -
What stinks about my local group is meeting times only 2x monthly and right now they’re during work shifts that I can’t get out of. Every now and then my schedule rotates, but I can only get to support group 2-3 months out of every year. Also, they ( understandably) cater to pre-surgery patients and about 95% of the program isn’t what I need for it to be now. I’m admittedly looking hard for a local support group bc this is getting more and more difficult.

Wow! So this really gives me a much- needed lift today. My mood today has been kinda “meh” bc after posting my planned calories for the day, I couldn’t finish all of my protein shake or even half my p3. In fact, I was so disgusted that I couldn’t get my calories in that I took a pity pic. lol, there it is at my work station—- the sad remainders of food I couldn’t eat. At least I did go with the cottage cheese first and finished it. Anyways, I’m starting to think that my body really isn’t ready to stop losing yet, which is kinda disappointing (yes, you read that right) because my mind is really over losing and I’m very happy with how I look and I’d love to be able to just get to maintenance, ya know?

Nervous Excited Anxious Happy Sad - Surgery in 9 hours...
Sheribear68 replied to Mark1107's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember being so incredibly stressed out after surgery bc I couldn’t eat anything. I literally had an 800 calorie week during week 2, so please don’t stress out getting in much besides water at this point. I know everyone touts how important protein is (and it IS!) but trust me, you can go a few weeks without and you’ll be fine. If the new tummy isn’t ready for even shakes, then wait a couple of days. The shakes will still be there. I had a complete and utter aversion to any kind of sweetened protein shake. It was so bad that I turned to plain milk (fairlife bc of the higher protein levels) and that’s what I primarily used the first month to get my protein in. Cottage cheese (starting week 3) was also a huge go-to for me as it’s a “slider” and it’s very protein rich. You’ll get this: go slow and easy and listen to your body. You’re absolutely doing the right thing by focusing first on water. -
Okay so I have news for you: That shirt doesn’t fit.... it’s TOO BIG. 🤣🤣🤣 Congrats, bc now you need a newer, smaller one.

STICK BLENDER OR NUTRI NINJA?
Dee2938 replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly I didn’t bother blending stuff too much. I just este soft foods during the puréed phase. Things like yogurt, cottage cheese and soups (with added protein powder). The phase goes by quickly and you eat so little, it’s almost not worth the effort of preparing anything too complicated. For example, I made a tuna salad one day, and I took about 2-3 spoonfuls as I was making it, to taste for salt and seasoning, etc. I was full by the time the darn thing was ready and I ended up putting in the fridge. That same tuna salad fed me for like 2 days. Lol. So you may not even need a blender. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Okay so I’m going to start posting like crazy in the maintenance thread bc many of these issues are now very suddenly relevant to me as well. Today I FINALLY hit goal guys. 8 months, 5 days post-op. I still haven’t “found” my appetite. Still struggle if I try to get in over 800 calorie. Maybe that means my body wants to lose more weight. Who knows, this is all new to me, lol! Hell I set this goal weight without truly believing it was actually possible. I seriously mean that bc there’s no way I thought I’d lose >90% of my excess weight with the sleeve. Maybe my body “knows” there is more to go and it’s just doing its thing. Yours might be doing that as well. At 5’7” and 155, I could still lose 10-15 more and not be overly concerned ( I was 130 most of college) , but I love how I look now and wouldn’t mind if I “only” lost another 5 and stopped cold and stayed right at 150-ish pounds for the rest of my life. I don’t have a great answer, but when I read about forcing some extra calories and carbs, it gives me an unsettled feeling. Mostly bc my whole life has been spent trying to reduce, that trying to force seems so unnatural. Not saying it’s wrong, just saying the whole concept freaks me out. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Sheribear68 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So I was in the 240’s for the reduction, which was approximately what I was when got sleeved, so a BMI of around 40%. Of course 9 years ago I had zero idea that I’d have WLS. We are almost the same height. I call myself 5’7”, but in actuality I’m 5’6 and 3/4. 7/8 on a good day, lol. Here would be my advice: do it if you’re within 20-30 pounds of GW, but if you have >30 pounds, hold off The reason is that once you pull the trigger on this, you want to avoid sag as much as possible. My favorite thing about my reduction was that I didn’t have any sag or droop. Everything was “High and tight” and now they’re sagging slightly bc of some (but not much) loose skin. It’s nothing that the right bra can’t fix, but why not try for the best results possible, ya know? I’ll be just fine as long as I don’t lose too much more volume (honestly there isn’t much more to lose anymore, but I’m happy with that) if I lose much more volume the loose skin (rather than the loss of boobs) will bother me slightly. IMO, having “normal” or “1 size under normal” size boobs makes a woman look much slimmer than any other single thing. Just my opinion -

Okay so everyone has different pain thresholds. I will say that I’ve had multiple surgeries in my life and this was very painful. But....... it was totally and completely a million times worth it. Opioids (just a few days) will be your friend and so will ace bandages. I can remember my mother (didn’t know my husband then and I was single) helping me wrap up daily and that helped a lot. So if you have a helper it’s totally doable. Also I had/have a job where it is almost impossible to take enough time off to recover. I was back at work 7 days after my reduction, which is ridiculous, IMO. If I recall correctly, I was on opiates for 2-3 days around the clock, then backed off and took them as needed for the next couple of days. Would take 1 at bedtime after working bc I was sore from having to use my arms. I’m a pharmacist and the pain of having to screw on and off childproof lids on bottles almost killed me, but you just cannot do my job without being able to use your arms like that -
Okay so I’m so psyched bc I’ve ordered an awesome fabletics outfit for myself for my bday next week. Yeah, I spent my bday clothes budget on workout clothes. Can’t wait to post my OOTD when those come in

I have a scheduled appointment with my surgeon on Monday and I'm getting nervous bc this is the last time I see them before my surgery! I'll be starting my liquid pre op diet soon after for 7-10 days. My husband has promised to support me bc he expects that I'll be very cranky and hangry! Lol. Overall I'm looking forward to the next step and I'll be on the app alot for extra support! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

October 2019 surgery peeps?
ypease replied to Cherylmilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done in Mexico on the 1st by Dr. Illan at Hospital BC. I feel great! I’ve followed all directions for home care (well....). And I felt marvelous the day I went home. I won’t lie, the gas pains were a little irritating the first night, but a heating pad and my own tender massage made it all better. As far as meds go? I came home with a bunch. All put one was supplied by the hospital. I had to buy the blood thinner shots. They were very inexpensive. Now, I’m not trying to make anyone out there feel bad because if they’ve already had surgery, are having surgery right now and their experience is not the same as mine. God knows, I gleaned a lot of wisdom from this site prior to my surgery. Please remember, everyone is different! So, enjoy your new adventure, and let it just happen, the way it’s supposed too.Wow, I guess now I actually belong on the Post Surgery group. Soon, so will you...... -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
djgirl19 replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am glad I got sleeved bc It’s working just fine for me. I think a lot of issues get highlighted and magnified here. If everyone had issues with sleeve surgery they wouldn’t do it. My bloodwork was a 180 within a month of getting it done. I know some people have problems but I also think taking your doctors best advice is the way to go. Asking an online forum is not how I would treat cancer or an infection so I’m sticking with medical advice from the doc. -
I can’t find the right protein shake!!!
djgirl19 replied to VSG.girl19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There was no right shake for me. They all taste bad but the premixed Premier were least offensive. I froze a few to eat like ice cream. I preferred the fruity clear drinks bc they weren’t so thick and heavy. I don’t drink any of them now. In fact I was off of them as soon as I went on solid food. My docs prefer if you can get your protein without the drinks and avoid drinking extra calories, and I was totally ok with that. I usually am able to get 60-80g of protein daily so I don’t use them at all but I was also lucky enough to heal rapidly. -

Okay guys so today is my 8 month surgiversary. My GW is 155, and true to form (me being more of the tortoise than the hare) I’ve fallen 1 pound SHORT of goal for this date. Am I gonna let it stop me or discourage me? Nope! In fact I’m doubling down this week bc my bday is in 10 days and maybe I can at least hit my goal by my secondary GW date. Never give up! -
I can’t find the right protein shake!!!
Sheribear68 replied to VSG.girl19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tastes will change. At first I couldn’t stomach any protein shakes bc they were so over-the-top sweet. So I drank nothing but fairlife milk bc it has so much protein in it. I also use a lot of savory products. Love the bariatric cream of chicken and tomato. Lots of times I’ll add a scoop of beef bone broth powder to miso soup. It’s pretty decent. I’ve also done the bariatric hot chocolate and the oatmeal. Lately though, I tried the premier protein again and I get the caramel and bananas and cream and add to iced coffee over a lot of crushed ice (1:1 ratio) and it’s pretty delicious. In fact, I just ordered their pumpkin spice and I can’t wait to try it out. Don’t be afraid to try new things and even periodically go back to previously tried things. Your tastes will change over time
