    Sickness

So I had my post-op nurse check yesterday. But I also have a broken foot and the other one swelled up and painful to the touch and intense pain when I bear weight on it. It took a lot of effort to get from my car in the parking lot to the clinic office. I had taken alot of acetaminophen that prior 12 hours and no sleep cause of the foot pain. By the time I made it back to the car I was so weak and tired, probably should not of been behind the wheel. I got home, and went to bed immediately. From 10 am to 4am this morning, I thought I was close to death. I was so weak, my stomach hurts so so bad. It's gross but anal leakage. I could not eat or drink and protein. Anyone else experienced this at all? I'm still weak and tired this morning but my stomach is fine.

I still have it and I'm day 10 I was just saying that I'll be glad when that hunger feeling go away and the gurgling it's weird. Everytime I eat something cold I feel it all the way down. Warm stuff don't feel weird

    Still Undecided.....

yep - went back and forth for 10 years. But I finally admitted to myself that I couldn't do it alone - I cannot tell you how many times I lost weight, just to gain it all back again. The most I could ever lose (and this was just a handful of times) was 50-60 lbs. But most times it was more like 10-20. I had over 200 lbs to lose. How on earth was I going to pull that off i I couldn't even keep 50 of? I finally realized this was the only thing left to try. And I was afraid of a drastically shortened life if I didn't get the damn weight off. So I finally did it. It wasn't easy - but it worked.

    Stalls suck

Mine was 6/7. I'm down about 10 pounds since then. I've been a daily weigher for years, but I put the scale away this morning, because I've been obsessing, and because I'm supposedly up like 3 pounds since yesterday, which eating under 600c, isn't possible, lol. I know it's because I need to #2, plus, before surgery I was used to drinking close to a gallon of water a day, and of course I cannot do that right now, so my body is being an a-hole getting used to the less fluids and wanting to hold on to every single flipping ounce, lol Hey, bodies are weird. Try not to stress.
  5. I hear you about finding the right fit in bras @ms.sss. I actually asked about prosthetics for the upper breast today at a department store (David Jones actually - it’s about the only place that still do bra fittings). I had googled the other day without luck. But the answer was simply no they don’t. Prosthetics for after mastectomies, chicken fillets to boost the bust but nothing for empty upper breasts. Was told that many mothers who breast fed have the same problem so not just after weight loss. Sounds like a great business idea. But I claim percentage ownership if anyone here does it. Have you considered getting the bras tailored? I did that with a strapless bra years ago to tighten the band. (To get the cup to fit I had to go up in band size.) They also suggested I may have to do after my weight loss if I dropped down to an 8 band size - they don’t make them. But thankfully when my weight & remaining fat settled, the 10 was fine.
  6. I am 7 weeks post opt and have most restrictions removed with the exception of bread/ rice / beef/ pork. I’m worried about stretching my stomach. Around how much lean protein are you having per meal along with carb/veg? Anyone get weight loss stalls at this stage? I notice the scale has barely moved the last 10 days.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

Hi everyone, I have been dealing with severe constipation (third week since surgery). I did a bit of research and found something that is actually working for me, it is called Fiberex, it is basically concentrated prune juice with fiber. I tastes like concentrated sweet prune juice. I drink one little scoop (comes with it) in the evening and everything is fine the second day. I do not know if it will work for others but I thought I should let everyone know. Of course, before you start it, please consult your medical professional. I was just sick of taking other pharmaceutical products and tried to find something natural. Also, I put together a list of veggies, legumes that have high amount of protein and that might help you when you start incorporating them in your diet. Please see below. I hope this helps some of you. Edamame 1 cup 18.46 grams protein Lentils 1cup 17.86 grams protein Pinto beans 1 cup 15.41 grams protein Garbanzo beans 1 cup 14.53 grams protein Fava beans 1 cup 12.92 grams protein Lima beans 1 cup 11.58 grams protein Green peas 1 cup 8. 58 grams protein Quinoa 1cup 8.14 grams protein Spinach 1 cup 5.3 grams protein Collard greens 1 cup 5.1 grams protein Artichokes 1 cup 4.8 grams protein Avocado 1 cup 4.6 grams protein Asparagus 1 cup 4.3 grams protein Mushrooms 1 cup 4 grams protein https://www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/19-high-protein-vegetables#14.-Chia-seeds https://bcbstnews.com/bluehealthsolutions/10-most-protein-packed-vegetables/

Hi all! My VSG is scheduled for July 20th. I can’t believe it is already less than a month away! I am excited and nervous. I’m a planner and in healthcare. So, when I started considering the surgery, I watched a ton of vlogs and read a lot of research articles. 😂 My good friend had the VSG a few years ago and answered all my questions. I’ve been more aware of what/when/how I’m eating and have lost weight since officially starting the process in March. I almost completely eliminated alcohol and caffeinate in March so it wouldn’t be too much all at one time. I think that has had the biggest impact on how I feel. Not that I’m an alcoholic, but I’m definitely a caffeinaholic! I sleep so much better because the changes I’ve made have reduced my GERD. I am excited for the changes to come! I find my clothes are loose and I have more energy too! I have 2 friends, my husband, my kids, my mom, and my sister as my support system. My job just knows I’m having surgery. They don’t know the details. I start my liquid diet on July 10 while I’m on vacation! I could have made it later, but I’m just ready to start my new life ASAP!

I am scheduled for the sleeve on July 19. I'm having trouble deciding how much of my current wardrobe I should start giving away. I feel "buyer's remorse" because of all the money I've spent on clothes. Does anyone else feel this way?
  11. Ok.....I'm trying to RELOSE a lot of post-surgery weight. I lost 90 pounds from a SLEEVE in January 2019. A year later, I lost my mother. I spiraled like crazy. I only have 20 pounds still off, so trying again.....

I have faith that you can do it. Talk to a nutritionist maybe and see if they can help. I think that's where I'd go first. I wish you the best of luck and hope for speedy weight loss for you!

  12. I am pre-op and they have put my process on hold until my situation has a clear diagnosis. I have had GERD for 10 years and am now on 2 PPI daily and Famotidine at night and still have symptoms. I have recently developed GERD asthma (who knew that was a thing!) and now I have Muscle Tensioning Dysphonia (trouble speaking because of acid in larynx causing damage to vocal cords). I have to see a voice specialist for voice therapy. I have to see a gastro to determine if LPR in addition to GERD, and how large the hiatal hernia is. I also, have to see a neuro-gastroenterologist to see if sphincter valve at top of esophagus is completely not working and if there are motility issues with swallowing and processing through intestines and to rule out neurogenic cough in addition to asthma. How crazy is this! I suppose I'm grateful to be able to get to the bottom of all this, but so very disappointed that GP is being put on hold for now. I was originally told that GP would help relieve the GERD problems, now they have to be sure what causing all of this before I can go on. What a vicious cycle I'm in, the asthma meds making the GERD issues worse, the GERD is making the asthma/voice worse. My ENT did say this is complicated and unusual (so don't fret about yourself) it's probably very different than my situation. I just wanted you to know that I hear you, I understand and can empathized and hang in there, they will figure it out.
  13. So I'm concerned, I'm 10 months post op, the first 5 and a half months I lost 70 pounds which is great but I have been the same weight for almost 5 months and I don't know if it's normal, I'm still supposed to lose another 20 pounds but I don't know if my surgery failed or what? My surgeon hasn't checked up on me since 3 months after the surgery. I've been on my own since then so I don't know, did I hit my limit? Am I not going to lose anymore weight? I've been consuming around 800 calories more or less every day now, but I'm considering to drop it to 400 to keep losing weight. Idk what to do I'm desperate, I supposedly have until August to reach my goal weight (the one set by the doctor) also I'm planning on getting tummy tuck and excess skin removal surgery and breast reduction on December but I need to reach my goal weight. What could I do, what do you recommend. Please help.

been spending a ridiculous amount of time out on my porch these days cuz (1) the weather has been gorgeous, and (2) Mr. recently assembled some seriously comfortable and hard-to-get-out-of adriondack chairs for me. so i often have nothing much to do out here but stare at my thighs. sooo...im sharing the view. Ha!
  15. I had surgery eight years ago at age 55. No diabetes, though - just obesity. SUPER obesity. Also, borderline sleep apnea that I didn't know about until I did a sleep test for surgery. I lost 235 lbs and gained back about 20 lbs in year 3 post op (a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain after you hit your lowest weight is very common). Maintained ever since, but it's work. On the other hand, before I had surgery, the most I could lose was about 50-60 lbs, and every ounce of it would come back. Happened dozens of times. So yes - weight loss is sustainable after bariatric surgery as long as you monitor yourself. I had strictures at two months out and four months out. Very easy fix. The PA at our bariatric clinic told me it was the most common complication, and that they happen to 5% of gastric bypass patients (and if they're going to happen, it'll be during the first three months post-surgery - they're very rare after that). I personally wouldn't call something that happens to 5% of people "common", but that does give you an idea of how common complications are. Basically - they're not very common. about 30% of bypass patients have dumping syndrome. I've never had it and most of the people I know haven't had it, but some of us do. It's caused by eating too much sugar at one sitting (or for some, too much fat at one sitting seems to set it off). It's because food passes through to your small intestine much more quickly once you've had bypass, and your intestines go into overdrive trying to deal with the sugar (or...fat). It can be prevented by limiting the amount of sugar you eat at one sitting (which we should be doing regardless, even us non-dumpers). good luck in your decision. Honestly, I should have done it years ago. My only regret is that I waited that long to have it done. My life has changed dramatically for the good. I'd go back and have the surgery done every year if I had to - it's been terrific!

    liquid diet

I was told I had to do liquids to shrink my liver… but if your doctor said you can eat veggies good for you… I would do anything to eat real food… I am only 4 days in but I have 10 days to surgery left and then 14 days after before soft foods which I am so excited about… I am thinking somebody could make a fortune coming up with a meal kit the has everything packaged up for some so all they had to do was mix it with a blender bottle and drink for the month and then have the puréed stage and then soft foods stage … like all be prepped and sent so you don’t have to figure it out!!!
  17. I recently went clothes shopping at an actual mall for the first time in years, and I felt lost, disoriented, and completely out of place, like an alien trying to pass for human. Since I started losing weight, I've mainly been buying clothes from Amazon, Old Navy, and Walmart because I had no idea what to buy and don't want to spend too much on clothes, but I've been maintaining for a couple of years and feel like it's time to upgrade my wardrobe a bit. For one thing, now that I am not plus-sized, the options are overwhelming. I used to be limited to Lane Bryant and Torrid, but now I can shop almost anywhere and have no idea where to start. I felt like an imposter, shopping in stores that, 3 years ago, didn't have anything in my size. What 40-something professional lady has never shopped at Ann Taylor? (Answer: one who had to lose 100+ pounds to fit into any of their clothes.) I've heard of "vanity sizing" and now I've experienced it. In Amazon/Old Navy/Walmart clothes, large or 10-12 usually fits, but in more upscale stores, medium or 8 is on the roomy side. I found a shirt I liked in Eddie Bauer and medium was too big. I was afraid they would laugh in my face when I asked for a small (like, "LOL, can you believe this fat lady thinks she needs a small?!"). They didn't have any smalls left except the one the mannequin was wearing, so I bought that one. I can't believe I wear the same size as the mannequin! At Loft, I was looking in the large section of the clearance rack, and the salesperson looked at me like I was crazy and pointed me toward the small/medium section -- even offered to look for an XS in a sweater I was eying.

    Lost-gain-lose again?

I had surgery in 2017 . In the summer of 2022 I gained 10 pounds which I have not been able to lose despite going to the gym and watching what I eat. It concerns me to no end. In 1996 I lost a great amount of weight only to have it creep up on me. By 2000 I gained everything back and then some. I tell everyone to not make excuses for weight creep. Fight it because it will over take you very very fast. It happened to me once and I'm fighting it each and every day. I know the consequences of not fighting it.

    Lost-gain-lose again?

I'm not sure how much you (or whomever) regained, but it's very common for us to gain 10-20 lbs in year 3. It's a rebound - and most clinics wouldn't even count that as a true regain - it's more your body settling in to its new set point. Above and beyond that, yes, it would be a regain. Some people lose it, but it's a challenge (and it would be regardless - the closer you are to a normal BMI, the harder it is to lose weight - and that's everyone - not just people who've had bariatric surgery). I'm on a forum with several long-time bariatric patients (some of us many years out), and most of us have struggled with regain - and losing it again. It can be done, but it's a challenge.
  20. Yes that’s me too! I’m day 10 and so tired of shakes, water, jello, and BROTH. Today broth made me nauseous and sick

  23. Hey y'all. All the power in my city is out so I'm with family in Texas. They say power will be out for a week .I have had like 30 mins of sleep. A clingy three year old on me all night, a cantankerous 19 year old with a long face, and my disabled 16 year old has been having anxiety. Oh and it's 95 degrees. I'm fine though.....still on liquid. 🤷🏾. I'll chat it up with y'all soon.
  24. Re: addictions i can’t say I’m well versed enough on this topic to dole out advice and offer solutions. But I can give support and personal anecdotes. Case in point: (While not about eating and food, I still think this has some sort of relevance) I had my first cigarette when was 15 yrs old. I worked my way up to a pack a day by the time I got to university (19 yrs old). Did this for TWENTY YEARS. Finally, I quit cold turkey in July 2011 when I was 38 yrs old. I was golden. I didn’t touch a cigarette for 8+ years. Not a single one. Then, in 2019, high off my success in weight loss probably, armed with an uncontainable confidence, I decided to have a cigarette while on vacation. Cuz i mean, can one really hurt? I could stop, obviously did before. Plus I’m on vacation, gotta live a little, right? I wasn’t even craving it, I just thought it would be no harm no foul since I had absolutely no intention to be a regular smoker again. I remember my husband tried his best to dissuade me. Le Sigh. That cigarette led to another, then another, then me buying a pack saying “I’ll only smoke on this trip”. Then I got back home and I still had some in the pack, so I said I’ll just finish these. Then I bought a pack at home, then another, then another…. Le Double Sigh. It is now 2023, 4 yrs since I stupidly smoked that effing cigarette, and I’m back to smoking almost a pack a day. Sometimes abstinence/the all-or-nothing approach is best for some people. I am not that type of person who could just have one cigarette and leave it at that. Should’ve known. What works for one person, may not have the same result with another. Do what works for you, people. ❤️
  25. I thought they were kidding when they told me they have a discount card for me. It's an actual card that says I'm a bariatric surgery patient ,and as a result of having a small stomach,I can only eat small quantities. Please let her adjust her portions and price it accordingly . We haven't gone out to eat in over 10 years , but I think I'd feel silly using it ! Have you gotten one ?
