    Fort Worth Buddies?

I agree I'm scared to death I've done this and I won't use the tool... Doesn't help that I've been at the same weight for the better part of a week. I know there is a 3 week stall that a lot of people talk about, but since day 7 I have lost more than 1/2 a pound.... For the last 3 days I have been very focused on getting moving...

    Halloween Challenge!

    167! 3 pounds in a week after a 3 week stall! Yippee!
  3. Day 13 Post Surgery - 215.6lbs (-6.8lbs) Holy cow!!! I slept great AGAIN!!! And woke up full of energy and joyful intentions toward the morning!! I can NOT explain the boost and motivation that it gives a person to see quick weight loss success on the scale! LOL. And I know I will ride that muthah truckin' wave til it ends! And there will be an end cuz all magic has a price. Doesn't it, deary? Hehe. I know sometime between now and the next couple of weeks the awful, terrible, very bad, 3 week stall shall descend upon me and my house. And there will be a pox and a scar upon the land complete with wailing, pissing and moaning, and gnashing of teeth! Ha! I will step on a non-responsive scale multiple times during the day just to confirm it's bitchi-ness. I was so ready for the scale to start moving, though. I KNOW my body. And my body HATES whey protein isolate in large amounts. It can take having 1 protein drink a day, or some supplementation with it, but not for all meals every meal! It's too insulinogenic for me. But give me low fat protein and low fat veggies? And BAM baby. Just like that, my body will start to tap into its fat stores!!! And that is exactly what's happening. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that I'm only taking an occasional 20ml of liquid sf tylenol for transient pain rather than taking gabapentin, tramadol, or worse, narcotics and muscle relaxants! I'm walking as much as I can. Yesterday I hit 40 minutes for the day--almost back to pre-op. I am so limited by the hip bursitis. My hips are back to hurting like a little b***h. But I'm still walking on them at 10 and 20 minute intervals. I think this is really important! Two things concern me right now. I am not getting a sense of fullness. I can easily eat 1/4c of food and could probably eat more than that, but I'm trying to be very conscientious about following my doc's orders. Until last night. One of my diet forms says at Phase 3 soft foods I can have 1-2oz dense protein + 1/4c soft veggies. So I am taking them at their word. Last night I had 1.75oz of grilled tilapia + 1tsp low fat nut-less pesto, 1oz frozen broccoli, 1/2oz avocado, 1/2oz heirloom tomato (skinless/seedless). I wasn't full, but my spidey senses were on alert to tell me I should not eat any more. But and it's a big butt...I did NOT feel full. And I WANTED more food! LOL. That was me all day yesterday! But I still ate my 1/4c of egg scramble, my 3tbsp egg salad + 1/2slice of low carb CheezeItz crackers, 1/2c of yogurt/cottage cheese+apple sauce and cinnamon, plus my 9oz Premier Protein in decaf coffee for a grand total of: 512cals; 61g protein; 18g fat; 15g carbs; 1g fiber; 14g net carbs; 7g sugar naturally occurring. I hope the lack of satiety is because I have little inflammation and because my nerves are not yet firing on all cylinders? OK, more later. Will come back to share my Guiltless Nut-Free Pesto later.
  4. I weighed like you did...and was just as freaked out, but I went back and read in other forums that folks who have lost a good amount of weight prior to surgery often do not lose in the beginning.... like an early 3 week stall? I don't know but I'm holding onto that theory for dear life! and told my husband to hide the scale from me! You are doing great! You've got this!
  5. Im preop..but everyone here talks abour the infamous 3 week stall. Just keep doing the right things and dont get frustrated. From what Ive read, ppl still lose inches even when the scale stays the same.

    5 Weeks Post-Op

Hi! I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago too on April 4th. I still have the restrictions and can’t really eat past 2-3 ounces but I am noticing myself getting more snacky in between meals, so that is a bit concerning to me as well. As silly as it sounds I have been starting to worry that my stomach is growing back lol. In the beginning I wouldn’t feel so snacky but now I am, and not to mention the infamous 3 week stall I have hit for 2 weeks now! But tomorrow is weigh in day and I pray I broke it. i haven’t even eaten fruits yet as my diet says I can’t until like 3months, lucky you because I REALLY want a pineapple. good luck to you and I’m sure everything will be fine. Just try to track what you’re eating it really makes a difference and makes you more conscious, so even if you don’t feel the restriction you are still putting nutrients and protein in your body.

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

Yup - hit the dreaded 3 week stall. It sucks. Ugh.
  9. I never weighed that much so the only stall I ever knew about was a month long around 2-3 months postop. If you don't want to stall, then follow your plan and don't step on the scale. I "avoided" the 3 week stall by not weighing between 2 and 6 weeks postop.

    One month out

@@brittanylau same exact thing happened to me. 1. wasn't losing 2. felt like surgery was a mistake 3. was sick daily but you just keep doing the right thing and the weight will come off. you seem to be in the dreaded 3 week stall. don't give up. it will work. just keep going! and make sure you are eating ENOUGH. this was a big issue for me. i added more fat and it's been better for me even at this tail end of my journey.

    Weight gaining after sleeve?

You're not doing anything wrong. It's impossible to gain real weight early out. Everytime I'd stall, I would gain a couple of pounds. You're probably going into the 3 week stall everyone has. It's just our bodies reacting to starvation mode. No worries. As far as gaining weight further out and people gaining all their weight back, the surgery doesn't control what you eat or how much through out the day. It is the natural progression to be able to eat more as times goes by. I'm almost 3 years out, and can eat so much more than I could 1-2 years out. So say I can now eat a small dinner plate of food. If that plate consister of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and dessert, even if I can't eat it all, that kind of eating will add up over time, same as before surgery. I can eat a whole pizza if I really worked at it all day. That's why it's important to use the first year or so to change to a healthy lifestyle in order to keep the weight off. 43% of people who have had surgery gain weight back by returning to old, unhealthy habits.
  12. Sleeved 15 September, dropped about 22lbs since then but it looks like I've also hit the 3 week stall. Not too discouraged as it's coincided with moving to pureed foods and walking 2 1/2 miles to work each day so I suspect (hope) it's partly adding muscle from exercise while still losing fat. My clothes are still feeling looser.
  13. I don't really have any before pics. I tried to avoid any photo shots. Down 72.8 pounds. I consider myself a slow looser since I've been on a 3 week stall.

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

I would. My drs scale shows better weight loss than mine though 😂 ill go with mine because I will see it more often Sw 242 CW 225 sleeved 3/20/18 think I’m in the 3 week stall for a couple weeks. I’m still very tired some days. Haven’t started exercising yet because of this

    "Sugar Free"

Wow so that leaves a whole lotta nothing to eat! I suspect my reply may be a bit controversial, but for one thing I avoid anything that says fat free or low fat, unless that is naturally the case. Otherwise it usually means added carbs and fillers. I have adjusted my own diet to what has worked best for me in the past and that is.. a low carb, HIGH FAT diet. Yes really, high fat. I eat real butter, real mayo, bacon, sausage, whole milk yogurt, and the like. I know this is going to freak some people out (OMG THE RULES!) but know what happened when I got off the low fat bandwagon? I broke my 3 week stall immediately and dropped about 7 pounds in one week. I also experienced a great reduction in hunger! I did this at about the 2 month mark. Today is my 3 month surgiversary. So anyway I confessed my rebellious diet switcharoo to my nutritionist yesterday and she didn't have much to say about it other than maybe by eating more fat I was bumping myself out of starvation mode and needed the extra calories to break my stall. She may be partly right but I can't agree entirely because I am, as I keep saying, A Professional Dieter. I know my body better than anyone and how it reacts to various percentages of macronutrients. Doing Low Carb/High Fat in the past was by far the most successful plan for me. I was able to drop 50 pounds in 5 months, without surgery and reached my ideal weight in maybe 7 or 8 months. (How did I gain it back? I ate carbs again.) I guess my point is, in the end we should all do whatever works best for us. I learned pretty early that I was in no danger of dumping, I also learned pretty early, that carbs such as crackers, fruit, and even vegetables were causing me to stall, but that didn't surprise me because it's not the first time. Early on you should just do whatever your team tells you to do (there's not much chance of sticking to low fat, low sugar, and low salt tho - good luck with that) Once you are more "on your own", you can choose to continue following their rules if they are working for you, or make your own if that works better. I make sure my team knows what I'm doing, and as long as I'm getting such great results, I will continue doing what works. Ok go easy on me.

    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Hey all, I'm 5'2", and sleeved 07/23/15. I'm at four weeks post-op in two days. I haven't been losing any weight since the first week. I started at a BMI of 34 (176.5 lbs), and lost 12 lbs pre-op )2 week diet), and 12 lbs since surgery. Any of you with low BMI experience such long stalls (almost 3 week stall here) Thanks!!

    Any March Sleevers?

Only lost 2 pounds this past week its that's "3 week stall" everyone talks about. 18 lbs total. That doesn't sound like a lot to me for what I've been through and for how little im eating. I know it will keep coming off and 18 pounds is actually good for 3 weeks. Its my rational vs my emotional. The GREAT thing, however, is that I can't just say "screw it" and eat myself into oblivion like I could pre op. And I know that it'll come off. One way or another, fast or slow...it WILL come off. I just need to be patient, get the protein and water in, and start exercising more!!

    Australia - Melbourne

Hey lovely ladies! Ok so I'm so naughty I had a very little bit of skinny girl Cosmo mix tonight two sips and I was tipsy but omg I have been abused today! So I asked on two Facebook "support" groups how long people waited until they had a drink and hoe far out I was and that I was considering a drink not bottles just one teeny weeny drink and this one chick told me off!!! But before that I called the emergency line at lap surgery and then Mchenry called me back and he went off tap at me had me in tears! I get that it's for energencies and mine was a general question but they didn't tell me when I was discharged if I could or could not drink! So then hubby calls him back and let's him have it! Then hr apologised for bring such an ass. I said to him they never told me and that on discharge I was allowed to call and ask in fact they preferred if I called and asked instead of doing things that might damage me so aren't I better off calling before I make a mistake instead of u telling me to figure it out on Monday! Like wtf!!!!! Nasty!!!! I get it's for life threatening things but seriously to be yelled at I kid u not he yelled at me my jaw dropped!!!! Seriously I'm so dissppointed i know maybe it was trivial but I found out through MY OWN RESEARCH later of course that it can give u an ulcer and some people say wait 6 weeks some say 6 months some say 1 year like how am I supposed to know! Anyway he said that a few sips is ok after we had a 15 minute arguement he could have savec himself and me a lot of heartache if he just answered the question. I now feel like absolute crap that he spoke to me like that and then I got attacked on FB too seriously! Btw the drink I had was amazing u drank about 100ml over like 3 hours or something so it's ok I think! But I don't know.... I'm so glad I have u guys I can vent to I'm sorry for going on do much but thank u for listening!!!! So today I hit 119.6 kg on my scale when I'm naked so happy days!!! I'm coming up to this 3 week stall so I think it's time to work out on the cross trainer oh and I haven't walked in 2 days I went back to work today but I'm at a desk job and sitting for a long time made me sore so might have to take some painkillers to work on Monday!!!! On the number 2 I think I should be more diligent with my fibre right now I feel a bit lost... Chez have u started pre opp? How are u feeling?
  19. With such a huge calorie deficit, we are tricking our bodies into thinking we are starving. We go into ketosis where our body starts shutting down and our metabolic rate falls. It registers there are limited carbohydrates and fuel to burn and initially stops everything in an effort to save our lives! That's why that 3 week stall is so predictable and happens to everyone. Our body then starts using up our extra fat storage for fuel. When ketosis happens, it throws off the whole input/output theory. You may follow the program to the tee one week and not see weight loss at all as your body is trying to keep you alive! Eventually it starts to shift and this is where patience comes into play. Slow and steady. The weight will come off. Just focus on developing new lifestyle habits that will continue after this honeymoon phase of wls ends 6months to a year out. Eventually we will be able to eat anything again and as I'm already learning it's easy to rack up calories once you introduce normal food in your diet. Using my loseit app on my phone has been key for me.

march sleevers the good and the bad

I just posted my before and during picture to my profile here for anyone who is interested... The pic difference represents 59 pounds lost from when I first booked my surgery date. For the month of March I've lost 21 pounds. 7 pounds during the two weeks preop and 14 since my surgery on March 13th. I'm THRILLED with my March loss even though I know that there are some who lose much more.. but I've been on 800 calories a day since the beginning of December so I didn't expect super dramatic results! I'm pretty sure I'm entering a stall now. My weight loss pattern historically always includes 2-3 week stalls followed by big losses so I'll just have to ride it out!
  21. Hello everyone, I'm a 34 yo young woman who is very grateful for this forum. I can't tell you all what a great support group this is. I have spent hours and hours and hours here reading posts and finding answers to my questions. Thank you for being here. I'm day 73 post op. I feel like i'm not losing as much as i should be, but i've found myself not exercising as much as i should be. I'm trying to make a commitment to myself to do so so that i can do this the right way. After a 3 week stall, i want that weight to come off! Thanks for listening and hello to all. 01.01.2010 Highest weight 289 03.18.2010 Day of surgery 262 05.29.2010 Current weight 217 Dr. Van Wagner in St. Louis, MO at St Alexius Hospital

    September bypass buddies??

I hope we both start losing again so! Hopefully this is just a small bump in the road. I try to stay positive. I guess i am just having a bad day. I did find this article that made me feel a little better about the 3 week stall. https://www.mybariatricdietitian.com/mbd-blog/the-3-week-stall-after-weight-loss-surgery
  24. I had a 3 week stall myself. Then I'd lose a cpl and put 1 back on! What?! Lol. Finally down to just losing and consistently again. Down 47 total since surgery on 4-20 (23 pre opp) and first day back to work today. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

Alrighty. It's been 4 days without seeing much change on the scale. I've stalked the bulletin boards enough to have read about the mysterious 3 week stall but didn't expect it at 2.... At first I thought it was because things weren't moving through and miralax and prune juice assured me that wasn't the problem. I started looking for more "sciency" reasons other than some magic weight loss elf taking the 3rd week off. This is the best sciency reason I could find. I found this http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/the-three-week-stall.743/ - A nice lady named Diana Cox wrote that: A "stall" at this point is inevitable, and here is why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.
