What Made You Choose the Sleeve?

Had the band for 10 years and it sucked. I did not like having a "pouch" and feared the rny would be too similiar. I had so much weight to lose, I decided that if the sleeve didn't give me good results, I would be open to getting the DS, but not the RNY. The sleeve worked great for me, I have lost 150+ in 14 months and am now maintaining.

    Surgery Date May 2nd

That is my birthday! I totally wish that was my surgery date. But my last supervised weight appointment is in June, so I know that won't happen. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hi everybody! I am just getting started with the process. I have BCBS coverage and I am in Michigan. I am working with Sparrow Weight Management. I have sat through the introductory meeting / Q&A session, contacted my insurance and I have my first appointment which will include my physical and initial paperwork to submit to the insurance company later this month. I am so excited! I have learned so much from this amazing network of individuals already, and look forward to learning more. I also look forward to sharing my experience. XO, Ms. A

  5. August 29'rs. No real change in weight but my clothes are getting looser. I'll take that. I need to concentrate on protein and vitamins (never got in the habit of taking vitamins before). Hope everyone is feeling well!

    A Man's Meal?

When meeting with my dietician at discharge she held up two small medicine dose cups and put them together. She said the 2 oz pouch was my new stomach. Obviously as I healed I was able to increase my intake from that small 2 oz cup to almost my pre-band portions. After my first adjustment that was significantly reduced and now it is a little more. At this time, my first adjustment, I have some good restriction but I know more would be better. My largest meal is lunch and is from 7-10 oz. by weight. dinner is about 7 oz. and Breakfast between 2-3 oz. since my band seems tighter in the morning. Most meals are fairly solid because I like how long the solid food sits in the band versus Soup or mushies like mashed potatos. I vary my calorie intake and range between 800-1300, shooting at about 1000 average at suggestion of my surgeon. All of these are far larger than the 2 oz. the dietician said I would be living with. Any thoughts or suggestions? Am I looking at this incorrectly? Can the stomach really stretch that much to accomodate 10 oz. from its little 2 oz. size? Do you think women have the same capacity as my female bandster friend eats significantly less than me.

    Working Out Ti Much?

I personally think its up to the individual. If it feels good go for it. I also have an elliptical and treadmill. I alternate Zumba, treadmill, and elliptical 4 days per week. I have to stop myself from working out and some weeks do 5 days. I usually get in 60-80 minutes of working out. I am afraid of transfer of addiction. I also have two children, husband and graduate school and am striving for balance. I don't want to get lost in a vicious cycle of exercising all out and then stopping from being exhausted. Then comes the guilt and shame. Unfortunately, I have done this time and time again pre surgery and the weight always came back. In my crazy mind if I overdue it, the same thing will happen and failure is not an option.
  8. I did my first (light!) weight training yesterday, and my muscles are yelling at me. Is it OK to take acetominphen for muscle soreness? I know NSAIDS are Right Out.

    Cardio or weights?

I would try to change up the cardio routine a it if you've hit a Plateau and add some weights a couple times a week. It's amazing how doing something different can help our body start to let go of the weight again.

Hey need some friends that can relate

I have been banded for 10 years. Had the weight off for 8 years and then BAM, retired and last year of work was a nightmare with the boss from hell. I know, that is not an excuse, but here I am again trying to lose this 35-40 pounds gained from stress eating. Getting back on this website has helped me get my resolve to do this again and I hope that this helped you with knowing that we all slip one time or another and we can do this again. I believe that obesity is a disease like alcoholism, the only difference is that you can quit alcohol but you cannot totally give up food. We need to have control at all times and it is definitely HARD TO DO.

Hey need some friends that can relate

I was banded in 2013 and have lost 150 lbs. During this journey I've had a few gains. The highest at one point was near 15 pounds. I hate losing the weight over again so that keeps me motivated even if I'm not losing I work hard not to gain. I'm working on this last 20 pounds I want to lose. It's hard work Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I know this is always a point of interest for people, so here is a little more data to add to your collection. This is my actual weekly weight loss with an average of 3.3 lbs per week since the day of surgery: Highest weight (July 2013) = 283 1st day Pre-op Diet (Jan 22nd 2014) = 270 (-13) Day of Surgery (Feb 4th 2014) = 254.5 (-15.5) Post Op Data by Week: Week 1 = 244.4 (-10.1) Week 2 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 3 = 244.4 (-0.0) Week 4 = 241.2 (-3.2) MO 1 = -13.3 Week 5 = 238.2 (-3.0) Week 6 = 235.0 (-3.2) Week 7 = 232.2 (-2.8) Week 8 = 229.9 (-2.3) MO 2 = -11.3 Week 9 = 227.2 (-2.7) Week 10 = 221.8 (-5.4) Week 11 = 220.2 (-1.6) Week 12 = 214.8 (-5.4) MO 3 = -15.1 So there you have it, it really does add up over time, even with some frustrating stall weeks. Keep on plugging, everybody!
  13. Thank you both. Yes, I am going to use the 6 months as a way to try to lose weight on my own. I met with Dr. Brengman. He is approved with my insurance but the hospital is questionable. Do you both go to a support group? I would love to come to a meeting.

    anyone take abilify?

My son was misdiagnosed at the age of 11 as bi-polar by a quack pyschiatrist and prescribed Abilify. It made a very skinny little boy balloon up to 3 times his size in 5 months! I took him to another psychiastrist who completely detoxed him off all meds and rediagnosed him to his original diagnosis of ADHD. After stopping Abilify the weight just melted off within 3 months. He is now 15 and too skinny but eats enough to feed a small family.

    anyone take abilify?

I take it and the only thing I have noticed is that my blood sugars are a little elevated. It didn't affect my appetite or weight. Good luck, I hope it helps you. Mimi

Well....I have a bad memory to tell you exactly, but I believe it was a year. I got to my goal wieght in 1 year and have gained and lost since then. I just recently lost 20lbs since last year. It goes up and down, but for the most part......it's been 4 years since I've been maintaining.

    Stall ....

A bit of a personal antidote here.. My whole weight loss journey has been a stall with bits and pieces lost here and there. It was a bit frustrating at times, but at some point I just gave into the process and said I'd look at the big picture after a year. And if by then there wasn't a good loss then I would freak!

Oui1213 - If you don't like my comments please don't read them. You are clearly quite a rude person. After having the band for 10 years, I feel suitably qualified to talk about my experiences. My responses here are honest, truthful and well balanced. Please read them again. Would you prefer it if I lied? Or genuinely shared my experiences, which, I believe is what this forum is about. My response here says that I am not knocking the band, it helped me lose weight, did I ever really feel full? No I didn't, is what the person in the original post experiencing normal? Yes it was at least the same for me. I also think it's very silly and naive of you to only want to hear success stories, like all types of surgeries, for some people this procedure works extremely well, for others not so well, people need to here all angles not just the good ones! send2steph posted "This has been really informative. Thanks!" So would you please mind your own business and keep your nose out. Thanks. Oui1213.
  19. Same here. Banded in march 2013. Lost 70 in the first year and by now gained 50 back. After first year just stopped following the rules. Now going to try to get back into the groove. Used to be in Essex now in Passaic.

    my band hurts

I had mine done 1 1/2 years ago and mine still hurts once in awhile but I am so thankful I had it done, all weight gone
  21. I did well losing weight for the first two years, but then my doctor put me on gabapentin and I gained quite a bit of weight. Ultimately, I went off the Gabapentin, but now I have to figure out how to lose the weight again. Any suggestions?
  22. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone would like to do a weight loss challenge that would run until May 25? I'm not the most organized person, so someone would have to get things together. Anyone up for the challenge? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I haven't lost a super large amount of weight yet but I can tell I am losing. I walk as much as possible. Take my vitamins and try to get in my protein and water the best I can. My ex used to drink so much water he would become intoxicated. To the hospital he would go to get the fluid drained with IV diuretics. I try to watch my water intake to as close as possible to standard and try not to go over too much. Keeping my water and meals completely apart but it is a constant struggle. Pre-Op in college

My doctor required a protein shake at breakfast and lunch and for dinner a palm sized meal, half lean protein and half veggies plus 64 oz water. That was it. Lost 19 pounds in two weeks but I started at a really high weight. I teach at a university and about all I cam get in the cafeteria is grilled chicken. Occasionally lean beef tips or grilled shrimp. I can take my lunch of course. Good luck.
