  1. I have a consultation with Dr. Hollis in Houston tomorrow to see if I can get a band to sleeve revision. I will be self pay since my insurance doesn't cover any bariatrics. Since I will be self pay, does anyone know if I will have to go through all the testing again like I did before I had my lap band put in? Also, does anyone have any idea how much a revision surgery will cost? Thanks.

    Heartburn?

Just out of curiosity why does bypass scare the crap out of you? I was going to have the sleeve and then because of reflux we decided the better surgery for me was bypass. I was scared to death to because all of the horror stories. I spent some time with both my bariatric team, my gastroenterologist as well as many bypass patients. I was most afraid of the malabsorption component. I then learned very quickly that it actually helps you to lose weight and honestly both bypass and sleeve patients have to have blood work and take Vitamins for life. The biggest thing they warned me about was not going in for yearly nutritional panels and skipping vitamins. As long as you do that which you also have to do with the sleeve as well, you should be good. I am two years post op, have lost all my weight and comorbitities, am very healthy and thank god every day that i went bypass as i have not even had a simple case of heartburn since the day i woke up from surgery. Spend some time and really research so you make the best choice for your health. I have seen way too many sleeve patients then have to revise to bypass anyway. I decided i was only going through this one time in my life. Both surgeries are equally as aggressive. The sleeve removes 90% of your stomach, the bypass reroutes. Just my two cents....take it for what it is worth but don't be afraid, be educated about your choices.

How LITTLE saline can be removed from band?

My original lap band doctor was so excellent. If I still was in the area, I think I'd still have the lap band. At first he'd put in like 1 ml or more just to get me to a good range, then he was very patient adding small increments 0.3 ml, 0.2 ml until it was perfect. I was a happy camper. Once I moved (moved to 3 different states in 5 years due to jobs) I had the hardest time finding decent fill doctors who filled new patients with such precision and patience (other than their own). I had to go through all the hoops of filling out paperwork, questionnaires...etc., sometimes physicals (ugh) just to get a fill. I actually went to my current surgeon (sleeve) to try to find a good adjustment under fluoroscopy, but that's when it was suggested I get a revision, so since my insurance covered it, I went for it.

How LITTLE saline can be removed from band?

@@Sai @@Julie norton @@bayougirlmrsc @@addiesbigdaddy Thanks, all. I had a feeling that no one would report having adjustments only in hundredths of cc's, but I was hopeful. I'll describe what I'm experiencing to the NP and we'll work something out. Of course I'd prefer a one-time deal to get it right. @@addiesbigdaddy, best wishes for good progress. Before July's esophagram, which showed the barium passing through properly and the band in proper position (a subsequent endoscopy for an unrelated reason showed no erosion, which I'd been thinking was among the negative possibilities), I suspected that the band may have had its day for me. If my plan would have covered revision, I'd have chosen sleeve. As it is, I am very happy for the opportunity to keep the band. Apart from being a little too tight, which isn't a fault with the band itself, I'm good.

  10. No complications here. i had my revision on Oct 4. I still have burping when consuming anything (even water). But I assume that will resolve over time. My surgeon warned me that if there was too much scar tissue he would have to do a sleeve instead (he didn't have to). I'd had my band since 2005 and I was good to go. One thing he told me is that my pouch is bigger than he normally does 55 vs 35 because of the stretching of my stomach that the band did. He said it shouldn't be an issue though, he still thinks I'll have good results. best thing i've ever done and I've found recovery easier with this surgery than the original band. eg I only took painkillers while in the hospital (2 days) and I"m back at work 2 weeks later. I would have been back last week except I caught a cold.

    REVISION From band to bypass!

Ive had the band for eight years. Just revised to by pass. My surgery was sept 14. I lost 32 pds since 9/1/16 start of liquid diet The difference is when you were too tight with the band, they took out fluid. There is no letting out fluid with the bypass. You just eat less or you feel sick You do loose weight with bypass. It certainly stopped my weight regain when my band was taken out due to complications Also you must take your vitamins daily. As far as what I've been told by those with bypass, any complications can be resolved and all I've spoke to would have done it again if they had the opportunity. Best of luck to you

    REVISION From band to bypass!

Hi missbeauty I'm getting a revision too from band to bypass on November 14th will let you know how that goes!
  13. The ongoing issues with my esophagus are what drove me to revision surgery so don't wait on this. My LapBand is being removed on Tuesday and I couldn't be happier. For that last year or so, I could only eat a few bites before I felt full and then I would be starving in an hour. (like you) I felt like the food was sitting at the back of my throat-right now my band is completely empty in preparation for surgery and the one solid meal I eat each day causes the same symptoms.. Last week I got stuck on Protein shake-liquid Protein shake without any texture. Do yourself a favor and get to your surgeon. You need to find out what's causing all the trouble.
  14. Has any one has complications REVISIONing from band to bypass? If so what complications? As I do know every surgery has its risks! I just want to be mentally prepared for all this!! I am nervous and having some sleepless nights, I am excited but nervous!! My surgery is on the 22nd of Nov. I am super stoked and cannot wait for a healthy lifestyle!!! What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

Just like @@Sai, I am not a fan of the artificial sweetened products. I went cold turkey on all artificial sweeteners back in March and let me tell you, it was NOT fun-four days of headaches and feeling awful. Today, my bottle of water has fresh lemon slices and frozen Triple berry Blend-Blackberries, Raspberries and Blueberries. I don't bother with the infuser bottle, I just dump everything in and drink (and eat) it all. I make up two 32 oz bottles at night and leave them to infuse for the next day. This will change though-my revision surgery is on Tuesday. I've already loaded up my freezer with peaches and tart cherries since both have been approved by my dietitian for adding to my water.
  16. I did my revision as many complications with mine. A few slips which meant all Fluid taken out resting it for a few months and start all over. Started having issues where port was, stomach very sensitive to touch, surgeon suggested revision. So happy I did it. Down 16 lbs since 9/27. Was told would come off slower but not worried, following plan per surgeon and no more worries about slips. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Unsupportive fiance

It is like telling a Alcoholic not to go to AA or a drug addict not to go to drug rehab it is a illness so is obesity. They could not stop on there own they needed some help this is no different. Maybe if they tried and go with you to a support meeting to see what it is really all about to get a full understanding they would not be so quick to judge. People need to walk a mile in other peoples situation before passing judgement. And Beside love ones are suppose to be the least judgemental of all they love you and should stand by you and be understanding! When I told my family they were like when where which surgery are you doing they were on it and I am getting a revision from lapband to bypass so this is my 2nd and last surgery!
  19. Hi, I had the lapband done in 2013 and had it taken out because I had no restriction whatsoever. I just got sleeved on the 11th! I also developed a hiatel hernia. I had to her my gallbladder removed because of my lapband. So far the sleeve has been the best choice i have ever made for a revision. Jus found you all. Surgery on the 18th. Revising from LapBand. This is starting to get real, people! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Also, nobody seemed to mention that you are a band to sleeve revision. From what I've seen, I think capacity is a bit more and weight loss is a bit slower? (someone who is a band to sleeve revision correct me if I'm wrong). But LipstickLady said it best, Protein will keep you satisfied and fuller longer, so stick with that. Number one rule of WLS, protein first. Then veggie, THEN starches only if you have room. Even Snacks should be protein rich, especially early out. I know it's hard, but don't count on restriction alone. Measure and weigh your portions and stop when done. It's a good habit to get into until you can eyeball it a couple years out.

    New Mom and gaining weight

Wondering how you are all doing? I got my band in November 2010. Starting weight was about 260, surgery weight was approx 245? I lost weight with my band but never below 200 lbs. My Bariatric doctor moved his practice and I had to start with another doctor. I saw this new doctor but it was 1.5 hours away and I had gotten a different job, so it was hard to get there to see this doctor. In the mean time, my band was getting too tight, caused a lot of pain and I became anemic. I couldn't get the Protein in that I needed. I was eating easy things like potatoes and such. Fast forward to recent...tried the Sanford Profile diet to try to get excess weight off (My new Bariatric doctor was aware of it). It kind of worked but I have a hard time not being able to eat fruit, potatoes, some breads (which you can't have while on the Profile diet). I am back up to 260 lbs. I have an appointment with my Bariatric doctor again on Monday. I'm contemplating a revision to RNY. My husband says he supports whatever I decide to do. My mom thinks I should just try to diet the old fashioned way. I struggle because my job is a lot of travel. So it's hard to always eat properly when all you have is a gas station to pick food from. 25. Diva Taunia Thank you for answering my ?. I was just curious about that. But...I myself would never ever have the Lap Band. My hubby had his for around 13 years and he did lose 100#'s but...he was over 500#'s. Truthfully, he could have done better because he didn't follow his guidelines. So in 2013 his band malfunctioned. He went to a BARIATRIC CENTER with the Excellence award. When they went in to do his Revision the band had eroded into his liver. There was so much scar tissue and bleeding they backed out and we were told that they would do it in 3 months after he healed. Long story short he developed abscesses and was deathly sick for 9 months and 3 months he doesn't remember. So he was on hold again. The Surgeon that tried to do the Revision refused to operate on him again. He actually called him a problem child. Off to OHSU, we went they were going to do his revision but they wanted him to lose 20#'s and get his A1C down to a 7. If his A1c was good he couldn't lose weight same way as the weight down blood sugar up!!. We finally went to Mexico in June of 2016. He ended up having the Sleeve because his whole right side was solid scar tissue. So as you see the Lap Band isn't something I would attempt. Not that I need to at this point, my RNY has helped me be successful in my weight loss. His weight loss is real slow but at least he is losing!! Sorry for the book. LOL Did Carney have good results with her BAND OVER RNY?
