  1. I am a nurse and wear scrubs all the time. At work last night I was told to get some new dang clothes! They said I looked like I had on a droopy diaper bc my pants were so big! But they said it in a loving supportive way. Question, at what point did others buy new clothes? I hate to spend money now when I am only 1/4 of the way to my goal.

    i wasn't always fat

Laura this is totally me too. I was skinny (120 lbs or less) right up until the summer after my 21st birthday. I began to experience some medical problems and certain medications ballooned me up very quickly to 165, which at the time, felt SO fat. Add marriage, 2 kiddos, a desk job, major depression and 10 years of age to the equation and here I sit at 240. I avoid any and all social functions where I might see someone I knew from H.S. I un tag all pictures of me on facebook. Quite frankly I am still walking around with a chip on my shoulder from that summer. I find myself "hiding" in my own body pretending that I'm so fat that if I see someone at the store and don't say hi they won't even recognize that it is me. It only very recently hit me that most of the people I know now have only known me fat. It only very recently hit me that I have been overweight my ENTIRE adult life. It only very recently hit me that I can't just sit around angry and wait for the old me to magically reappear, that I have to take action. My ultimate NSV will be seeing someone from my past and having them say to me "you haven't changed a bit". Jen

    NSV For Me...

So today, I did something I have been longing to do for years but what too scared. I joined a gym, and actually went, got the tour, and did 30 minutes on the treadmill at a brisk pace. I didnt think I could talk myself into the door, let alone complete a 30 minute workout. I know it doesnt sound like much, but for me it was a major accomplishment.
  5. I was banded November 29, 2010 and have lost about 50 pounds in the 13 weeks since being banded. So far some of my NSV are that I can cross my legs at the knee for the first time in awhile. I have knee socks to wear with boots, that I can actually wear up to my knees. I no longer have to fold them halfway down! I have one size of jeans left in my multi sizes closet before I have to buy new clothes. My seat belt fits so much better, and my whole butt fits on the chairs at my school! These are completely silly little things you don't think of not being able to do until you can do them again, and I feel great What are some of the silly things you forgot about until you were able to do them again?

    A new NSV!

Yeah for NSV's because they really are what keeps me going. I had one yesterday too, I can zip my not wide calf boots all the way to the top...haven't been able to that since I was like 11!

    A new NSV!

Great NSV's! My most recent was my husband telling me that it was time to get rid of my jeans because by A@# had disappeared in the ones I was wearing. LOL

    A new NSV!

Yeah for you!!! I too had a nsv this week! I can see my toes and I can get up and down from sitting/ lying way easier! Woohoo!
  9. Today after my morning shower I grabbed for the first towel I could find and wrapped it around myself. After stepping out of the shower and heading to the mirror I discovered that it wasn't my "normal" beach towel sized towel but one of the "regular" towels that everyone else in the house uses! What a happy way to begin my day! It motivated me to spend an extra 30 minutes at the gym too! Yay me!
  10. Having so many NSVs and even a few SVs. It's really exciting, even though I've still got a ways to go.

  12. Just a quicky here; while I was in Hawaii, I discovered that I can now comfortably wear a 38 inch waist jeans, shorts, and slacks. The last time I could fit into pants with smaller than a 40 inch waist, I was 18 years old. I'm well on track to "bottoming out" at around a 36 inch waist by my birthday in June, and given how solidly built my legs and butt are (TMI?) that's going to be just about cloth on muscle and bone, very little fat. So that's a tremendously great feeling; to be fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into since I was a teenager! And only 9 months out! Huzzah!

    I'm here to help...

Hey guys!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the well wishes for our vacation! (and all the nice responses to the FB photos). I wish I could post some here, but just too darn complicated. We had an absolute BLAST! I have to say, one of our best vacations ever. It was just so nice that everyone enjoyed it. Nelson is so independent now and makes friends easily- so DH and I were able to read our books, soak sun or swim (while watching Nels nearby). Lots of fun excursions- the best was swimming with the dolphins! I could have done that all day. My NSV was getting my butt in a wet suit. I have to tell you- I have wanted to do that for years but was too afraid I wouldn't be able to get it on. I actually could have used a smaller size- it was sagging in the shoulders and crotch..LOL. We arrived home Sunday afternoon and my parents were waiting here for us. We found out on vacation that Dad's cancer is back. New mets in lungs, lumbar spine, ribs, retroperitoneal lymph node. They will try another double agent chemo round. Praying he can handle it. Still hopeful. He is such a fighter. I decided not to tell Nelson until after his birthday. He is so happy to have them here. He turns 7 tomorrow. Where has the time gone??? I promise to catch up soon on all the posts. Liked the few recaps- No baby yet for Lori, Apples traveling, Meredith loving her snow's balls..LOL, Janet busy, Eva watching tv all day, Cheri, Linday and others hanging in there. Julie Hugs. I feel like such a bad friend. Just not enough time in the day. Love you all. peasout..Laura xoxo

I guess it's just another NSV to celebrate! ( I guess you'll have to look back to your teen years to figure out what to do in that work situation)

    My biggest NSV yet!

In the not too distant future, you are really going to confuse the kid who calls you "skinny B!*" when you break into a grin and say "yup!" Great job on the NSV.

    My biggest NSV yet!

Let me be the first to say.... YEY YOU!!! Ain't that a lovely feeling when you hear a compliment from the least expecte place... Congrats on a great NSV and a great weight loss to date... keep up the good work!
  17. Ok I know I posted about it on my status thingy but I wanted a post too! Anyway I work at a school for emotionally disturbed children. I absolutely LOVE what I do. But it can be hard at times. I hear "fat B*tch* pretty often. But, I'm rather used to it.. and don't let it get to me. I have been wondering lately if any of the kids have noticed my weight loss. I mean everyone else is ALWAYS commenting on it.. so Yeah. Today I'm sitting in my area with a student who is waiting on his bus. We start talking. Him: Can I ask you a question? Me: Sure! Him: Have you lost weight? Me: (unsure what to say!) Does it look like it?! Him: Yes, so did YOU?! lol. I just loved it! YAY! Plus both my brothers have now commented on my weight loss. telling me I look great. this is HUGE for me because I have ALWAYS been so much bigger than them
  18. So we are sitting at the dinner table last night. My husband throws out one of his millions hot momma comments and i'm like ok yeah right. and my 9 year old son says, " But MOM you are PRETTY HOT you know!" I'm like Joey you don't even know what HOT means. He says "Yeah, like the Divas on WWE! You are starting to look like them now that you are losing weight and you are HOT!!" How cool is that my 9 year old thinks I'M HOT!!! Patti

What kind of eater am I?

happygirl and Phranp have hit the nail on the head! There are no definitive answers, but there are guidelines and suggestions that will assist one in finding what works best for them. It will take time to learn how not to allow food to rule your life. Food life will go on without you and it will be around you. You will learn your trigger foods and what situations trigger your desire to eat food. You will have to learn how to deal with them and you will have to accept and forgive yourself if or when you fall off the wagon. I know what my trigger foods are and I know what tips me over to wanting to reach for that particular piece of food/snack and I have learned to avoid reaching for the food fix. It haunts me and I have to fight the urge to give in. However, my rewards, though may be small are enough for me, when I get on the scale and I have not gained, when I am ready to go down to a smaller size in clothing, or any other NSV...I give myself a mental tap on the back with a reminder that I probably would not have gotten to that point had I given in as evidenced by my past eating behavior vs my current behavior. I too keep a food and exercise journal and sometimes when I am fixated on eating, i plan my whole meal day or the remaining portion of the meals and then I get moving. If I have time to sit and think of meals, then I have time to walk or do something else. The band is work, it helps keep me on track while I'm working the issues of learning a new life that is free from hip and knee pain, I can now sit in a booth instead of having to ask for a table with chairs, I can fly without having to have an extender and I don't have to cross my arms and manuever my body into awkward postions so that I don't flow over into the next seat on the plane and my newest adventure in lapbandom...I am getting ready to go shopping in a store that is not a plus size speciality shop! If you are ready and you are prepared to commit to this process, chances are that you will never regret your decision, as others here have already said the band is not for everyone and you should do your research to be educated on the risks and the benefits. I wish you luck on your journey!

    Packing for a Trip

Hey Mini that is a great NSV!! I hadn't even considered one like that - that's pretty cool! Have fun in Nashville... take some piccies!!
  23. So, I will admit it. I am a southern hick and I love it. I'm heading to Nashville in about 2 hours. We are going to the Jack Daniels Distillery tomorrow and then end the evening with Darius Rucker and Brad Paisley in concert. Sunday is marked to hit my old stomping grounds (I went to college there in the late 80's) and then a quick stop by the Bookstore on Monday to buy a new sweatshirt (since mine are WAY too big now)! I am so excited I can hardly stand it!!! But ... for the VSG part of this post ... I have to say that packing last night was so much fun. Temps are supposed to be in the mid-60's so I was able to pack some lighterweight clothes and 1 or 2 warmer items for the evenings. Packing small clothes takes up so little space - I used a smaller bag than I used to pack for weekend trips. I love it!!!!!! I'm counting that as my NSV for the month!

    Junior

I think my head is starting to catch up with my body. I am slowly connecting the dots that I have lost over 70lbs. At first people would say, you look great, you have lost weight. And I would nod and say yes I have, but in my head I still felt like a big girl. Well that mental concept seems to be disappearing. I was in walmart last night and I was actually in the junior's section fitting L(12/14). Now I don't know what that equates to in other sizes but in my world that is pretty unfreaking believable. People I am talking about Junior size clothing. I am estatic. I am wearing one of the outfits that I purchased last night, at work today and I feel that the belle of the ball. Talk about a NSV!!!!

    sooooooo slooooooooow

I also lose at a slow rate - maybe a pound a week. But, the scale is moving in the right direction. Hang in there and don't obsess over the number on the scale. Be happy with the NSV's!
