    Reflux

Hi When are you taking the PPI? First thing in the AM may help the most with no food prior so that it can work alone and not compete with anything (confirm with Surgeon/Physician of course) Also you maybe eating to fast, past your limit or not chewing thoroughly. Any of this possible? Try eating 1 oz over 10 mins with regular pauses to see how you feel. Other than that try to go a step back in your plan to when food was easier to eat. You may simply not be ready to advance to a new food stage despite the planned timing. Your body will let you know this. If all else fails politely demand further testing to confirm there is nothing mechanical/structural going on. Good Luck 💜

    The Maintenance Thread

Still in the game! After revision i was counseled that i may lose a little more so im STILL trying to maintain in the 150s. Im 151 lbs currently and about 19 days post op. Not too rapid so I'm satisfied.
  4. I woke up this morning at 350lbs. Down 120lbs since my 10/8 surgery date. My lowest weight in over a decade. I don't know who needs to hear this but keep plugging away, No matter how hard it gets. It's worth it, so keep pushing!
  5. Hello, I had lapband removal July 12, d/t my insurance requirement I had to stay overnight. I was on a liquid diet the day of but my d came doctor/surgeon and said I could have food as tolerated. He told me I had to wait 3 months before I can have the RNY. So, I went home the next morning, no pain meds and was feeling great! I did walk after surgery several times around the unit and I told my doctor I was fine to go home but again my surgery required an overnight stay. My doctor told me he would send me home with something for pain and I told him no, but when I got home I started hurting on a scale of 1-10 around a 2. So, I took a couple of aleve and that did it for me. It was much better than the surgery of putting the lapband in but I had a realize band and my left side were my port was, was a lot more sore. So on my visit a week later, the doctor explained that the realize port was a bit different and he understood why I was a bit sore on the left side. I had 4 insertion sites. One were my port was which was about 2" long, one just above my navel about the same length, very small one on right side of abdomen and very small one just below my breast bone. No stitches just surgical glue. I know probably to much information but I got discouraged when I went for my check-up he said 6mths. I was speechless but know he knows what is best. I have a surgery consult set for the 14th of Aug. and really hoping he change his mind and say I can have it in October or November of this year d/t I paid my full deductible for 2019 prior to my surgery which was not fun at all.
  6. My HW was 216 (I'm 5'3") and that's how much I weighted when I began my 1 week liquid pre-op. Date of surgery my SW was 209. Here I am 7 weeks post-op (surgery June 21) and I've been stalled at around 193. I'm logging on my fitness pal, same place I logged when I lost 30 lbs in 4 months a few years ago. I went back to look at that weight loss which had NO stalls and averaged 2 lbs a week. And last year I went to Weight Watchers for 10 weeks and lost average of 1.5 lbs a week (until I quit LOL). Again NO stall at WW, either. Both times I recently lost consistantly week after week, and not I had 70+% of my stomach removed & I'm losing ZERO. I just feel so disappointed. After 6 months of excitedly jumping thru all the pre-op hoops to satisfy my insurance. After the super-duper excitement of finally getting my sleeve, this let down is shocking and causing me to wake to toss & turn 1/2 the night. I knew I'd have to put in effort and this wouldn't be easy, but also heard/read many success stories that said the weight basically melted off. I'm thinking to myself I just should have dieted myself on my own and lost. I sad and embarrassed, too. Embarrassed that those who knew I was having this surgery are probably looking at me expecting to see a change :(. I'd appreciate any input!

    1st Mammogram post op

Today I went for my first mammogram since I had my gastric bypass last Oct. While I'm standing there with one of my boobs in the machine the very young tech says to me, "Uh, I need to ask you something. Did you lose a lot of weight since you were here last year because I didn't see any scars from a reduction and looking at your results from last year your breasts look a lot smaller." I told her "yes, over 100 lbs." She said , "oh, I better put that on your paperwork or the doctor is going to think I got the wrong patient." I told her, "Oh, Dr G has been looking at my boobs every 6 months for over 10 yrs now...don't tell him and see if he figures it out." I just looked at the report online and normally it starts out with, "breasts composed of mostly fatty tissue." No such mention this year!

    Anyone use a CPAP machine?

Wishing you the best on this journey. A year ago I had no clue about sleep apnea. I have read so many post of people who see sleep apnea as a way to qualify for their surgery. But if you have sleep apnea then it is serious and may or may not disappear quickly. I also have sleep apnea. I have my appointment next month to see if we can adjust or reduce use but I am choosing to not make those medical decisions on my own. Best of luck. New_Me 2019

    Anyone use a CPAP machine?

Please take sleep apnea very very serious. My husband has severe damage to his heart because of untreated sleep apnea. He spent 3 weeks in CICU for AFIB, Flutter and Congested Heart Failure due to sleep apnea. He is 48 years old. His heart has been damaged and is functioning at a 18% rate. He did not have problems sleeping, he snored! He was not tired or fatigued. Sleep apnea is a co-morbidity because it is no joke and kills. Weight loss often improves or cures sleep apnea. People do not stop using your CPAP without having a sleep study. We did this surgery to have a better longer life. Best of luck on your journey. I hope you take the medical steps needed to have a long and healthy future. New_Me 2019

    Introduction

Hi Kristie! I identify with everything you’ve said. I too am having my surgery 8/12/19. I just got home from meeting with my nutritionist one on one. I called the meeting with her because , although I’m thrilled & excited, I was also getting overwhelmed with everything. She completely calmed my fears. Is anyone on your team available to meet with you one on one? I’m figuring I’m going to utilize as much support as I need in order to feel comfortable. Let’s stay in touch since we’re both in the timeline process together.. 🙂 Thanks Chiptress! I have had a couple meetings 1:1 with the nutritionist as well as psychologist at my surgeon's office, and will have post op 1:1's as well. Best of luck with your surgery, I agree that good support is key!

  15. Hello Everyone! So I am currently 2 Months and a Half Post-Op from my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (5/13/19). So far, I have had a great recovery and have had no problems getting food down. Today though, I threw up for the first time in this whole entire journey. I ate a Dill Pickle wrapped in Ham and Cheese. Is it normal for my first vomit experience to have come this late into my journey? Could it have been the acid in the vinegar from the pickle? What do you all think?
  16. I had my RNY gastric bypass in August of 2001 at that time had lost from 322 to at time of surgery weighed 295 pounds. I went on to lose more weight to 138 pounds by 2 years out. Then in February 8, 2016, (14 1/2 years out) I had a Gastrojejuvenectomy and hiatal hernia repair. I had gained weight up to 228 and my pouch had eroded and i had a hiatal hernia. Dr Blair Job of Pittsburgh, PA of the Esophageal and Lung institute was my surgeon at this time. I had this done at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, which after this time and 2 more surgeries to come in the future with bad experiences, I don't wish to ever go there again. More to be revealed if anyone answers my question that has been through similar surgery. I had my pouch removed and now my digestive system consists of esophagus to small intestine. I have no stomach at all. I get severe bile reflux at times. I have attacks of chest pain that feel like muscle spasms in my esophagus and they can happen anytime. They last anywhere from 5-15 minutes. They leave my very uncomfortable, I lost 4 pints of blood during this surgery and gained 30 pounds in that 8 hr surgery and my husband thought I was going to die. In the next 4 months I developed a wound infection and a dvt from my groin to my ankle and due to the fact that I had pe when I was 19 years old I will be on eliquis for the rest of my life.
  17. So my MD had a goal of only 60g of protein but I think I am loosing too quickly and want to increase it to hopefully stop this hair loss that I am freaking out about. I do a 30g premier shake every day then have an egg, lunch meat, tuna etc. It's just volume is an issue. I can only eat 1 egg in 15-20 min but nothing else for an hour at least. At dinner a 2oz piece of meat (ground beef chicken anything) and I am stuffed. I get in maybe a half cup of fruit or veggies during the day just to get some fiber in. I feel like I shouldn't push the volume up but I also feel like I am spending the entire day thinking about trying to get more food in small amounts all day to try and get 800 calories (trying to maintain current weight) and 60-70g protein. Ugh. I have had no stalls and still lose 2 pounds/week. I am now at a normal BMI and it's; not slowing down. I don't want to lose more. I never thought I would have that issue. I am trying to tell myself I can still lose another 10-15 pounds and that I will probably gain 10 pounds once my body settles anyway.
  18. I’m very excited for you! My surgery is 8/12 & holy cow 10 days away & it’s gotten really real. A bunch of excitement mixed with a bit of nerves. When I look at all the pics from everyone on the OOTD I really get excited to be healthy again & buy clothes based on style instead of just covering up!!!! Best of luck to you! Keep in touch with all your progress. I’ll start following you!!!!

    Diarrhea and work

Don't IF -- it's too soon. So is this gonna be a continual issue or is it only the result of the immediate surgery? Like with my emergency gut surgery, I developed an "Incomplete Ileus" which means I had large loops of bowel that were asleep and not having regular peristaltic contractions. So food, water, and poo would mix and sit and ferment until I'd have a "wave" of contraction that would cause me to have terrible and foul smelling big D. And I'd have them 10-12 times per day. Usually after any liquids went in my mouth or any food down my piehole, but sometimes for no reason at all. It goes away with time as your gut wakes up again. So I had to "try" to be careful about what and how much I ate--something I didn't do very well on lol since I wasn't healing like you. They didn't cut into my gut, only had to touch every inch of them to make sure they weren't dead/rotting, and untangle them. So it wasn't AS important to follow a liquid progression since I was moving things through--just spastically. So I think it should get better with time if this is what you have? You may also be developing some kind of dairy intolerance. Make sure your protein drinks are whey protein ISOLATE and not concentrate which has lactose in it. And avoid dairy. Also try adding probiotic capsule contents into your shakes. Also drink a spoon or two of raw sauerkraut juice 2-3 times per day to rebuild your gut. And go to the pharmacy and buy this: Alex sells it here on the BP store. https://www.poopourri.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvo_qBRDQARIsAE-bsH-grA0qD5BVk6l_SQo7scnZx-oaFuUOdDbyEb3LTtIkVUL-GHa4UmwaAhygEALw_wcB

    Post sleeve feelings

You seem to be doing really well. 45 min 2x a day on treadmill seems like being in the olympics to me. :-). My surgery is 10 days away but my biggest fear are blood clots too so I’ll definitely be walking.
  23. Ok, well yesterday was a good day but when I ate, I ate a LOT. So want to work on quantities per meal today. It's a constant dance, isn't it? And as you'd know it, my gut is still acting up.
