If you're not using a Dr. or OB, do you have access to a nutritionist? It might be worth having a session with one just to help with find the right intake to keep your weight under control and your little one healthy. Best of luck!

    Band coming out today

HI! I am scheduled for same. NOT because my band has slipped, just because it doesn't work! But, I have A Lot of weight to lose. my surgeon is not sure of the condition of my stomach from be banded for 12 years so it may be two surgeries. I tooo am stressing out because we have a big family trip planned 4 weeks after anticipated sleeve date. I personally think I would put the sleeve off till after the trip. I don't know that we will feel well enough at 4 and 5 weeks out. In addition, we would still be in puree, soft stage. And I think it's too close to Fly. These doctors aren't GOD. THEY will tell you what they want. Do what you feel is right for you and your family. Can you put off the sleeve procedure till after you return? When you say you don't have a lot of weight to lose, what are we talking 20, 30, 50? Can you just remove the band and not have the sleeve, maybe see how it goes on your own first (try WW)? THEN take it from there. Someone gave me this advise when I couldn't find the answers and it makes sense for me. The Doctor's are telling me when, and how. I plan on telling them what works.best for me and my family. I'm scheduled to remove my band March 16... from there... I'm not sure.. Good luck. Keep us posted.

    5 year history

My friend is going through the process, she just started. The thing is, she didn't have health issuance until recently. She can prove she has been over weight for 5+ years, that's she's tried to diet ECT...but she doesn't have 5 years of weigh-ins. Anyone know what will happen in this situation?
  4. I feel like I'm dehydrating, my mouth is so dry and I know my breath is suffering, or should I say the people around me are suffering from my breath. My Dr. recommends no liquids an hour before you eat, of course none while you eat, and none 2-hours after. So that is a total of 3.5 hours. Three meals a-day comes to 10.5 hours with no liquid, I sleep for 8 hours, so 18.5 hours leaves me 5.5 hours in the day. I don't know about you but I have to stop an hour or so before bed time or I will be up peeing. So what I'm getting at is I'M THIRSTY, I'm grumpy, I'm not losing weight, and I'm making the people around me miserable. I'll see my nutritionist next week when I get my first fill and I will talk to her about this but I was wondering what did your doctor tell you about being dry?

    So It Begins!

Hi innerme! I too have Cigna. I would call Cigna and ask exactly what else is needed. Hopefully..you have made copies or asked for copies of all letters, labs, chart notes, ect. If not, request them from your case worker. Ask the Cigna representative point blank "what paper is missing and I will get that to you so we can resubmit the request. I had a great experience with my clinic and I had a checkoff list so I did everything that was asked of me according to the checklist which included 6 months worth of going to my PCP monthly to check in for weight checks and setting goals. If you know that you have met all of the requirements set forth by your Cigna plan, I would call Cigna and ask for all documents that were missing and ask if this can be resubmitted once you obtain them. Don't give up! I spent 8 months working on my requirements..once I knew I had everything..and I would call and recall...and recall again to make sure my patient representative had everything ..then my request was submitted and I got approved in 2 days. There were times some of my papers weren't sent, so when I would go to me PCP, I requested the forms while I was there and would personally fax the information to my VS Dr. And then I would call to make sure they received it. I know its a pain..but please...PLEASE don't give up on yourself...keep on keeping on! Never take no for an answer! Let us know what they say!!! Sent from my DROIDX using VST

    Hi

I was 405 and 5'5"...I just quit flying once I topped 350. I feel your pain! There's too much life that passes us by when we are very large. People say "go ahead and live"...well, yeah right, except when you can't FIT. It wasn't being shy that stopped me! LOL I LOVE my band and hope you too are as happy and satisfied. I've lost weight over the holidays and never once felt deprived or "on a diet". It's like a miracle!

    Plateu for a year

I was banded July 2014. I had steady weight loss and lost 45 lbs the first year. Since last year my weight has went yp and down 20 lbs. I journal, exercise, watch my carbs, had a fill 2 months ago. No complications. I eat at least 60g of solid protein. I have changed my workouts to a little more intense. I am frustrated because this was the last resort for me. I could use any advice for those who have stalled in their weight loss journey. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App
  8. I was also nervous. Worked so hard to get here, then wanted to run the am of the surgery. I thought I was going to die. I kept reminding myself that "My thought lie to me." Which is what I teach my clients and hear I am sitting there having to keep reminding myself. I did it anyways and here I am with tremendous weight loss and still breathing. I feel better and better everyday and would make the same decision again. Happy about the new me!
  9. 20 lbs. a month is great. Don't compare yourself to other peoples #'s. Its healthier to lose the weight more gradual over this 12 month period as opposed to dropping the bulk of it right off. You'll have less lose skin and always remember everyone loses at their own pace. Stick with your plan and you'll do fine...also set realistic goals and have realistic expectations. Bypass patients are actually expected to lose the weight over a one year period of time...its not a race. Patience is a virtue also congrats on the 20 lbs... Sent from my Nexus S 4G using RNYTalk

    The fill...who cares?

I do carry a card in my wallet that indicates my status as a GB patient and my surgeons office etc. I guess I don't feel the need to know as it feels to me like it's one more thing possibly to use as a reason I am or am not losing weight. I understand the idea of knowing in case of an emergency however I also know scars indicate placement and if you had your surgery at a local hospital records are available. I'm very fortunate as my surgeon is local as well as my hospital, I feel that I am responsible for what goes in my mouth....my band only slows the flow therefore I am still ultimately responsible for my own weight loss/gain. I am grateful for the feeling of being full without over eating.

    Getting Frustrated!!!

I understand how you feel about getting an unfill and then feeling too loose. I had that happen this spring. I pushed through it by pushing extra Water and extra very low calorie fluids, popsicles and extra exercise. I know it's not easy, but it's doable. And if it's your TOM, it's likely not weight from fat you're seeing on the scale, but water retention. Pushing fluids will actually help that. When we're dehydrated our bodies retain Fluid ... if we taken in enough, the body can let the extra go. Take your measurements now and then again next month. When my weight loss is slow, sometimes I'm reshaping. As to exercise, what do you do? Find something that you enjoy doing so you will stick with it. It can be anything from walking to biking to swimming (indoor pool this time of year I hope..lol) to going to a gym to squaredancing to zumba, etc., etc., etc. Anything that gets you up and moving. I exercise pretty intensely almost daily, but I worked up to that. About a year ago all I was doing for exercise was walking my dogs.. Hang in there...

    New to lapbandtalk

Hello, I am kinda new to posting, so here it goes. I will be getting my band on 12/29/08. I am so excited and anxious. I have been in the process for amost 2 yrs. Mostly waiting for ins. approval. I have lost about 60 pounds on my own but still have a long way to go. I don't have a problem losing, mine is keeping it off. So I hope this band will help me stop this cycle.Looking soooo forward to a healthier lifestyle I had my 50th b'day in sept. I have 3 adult daughters and I think I have been a good role model for them except for my weight issues. I wish you success in your journey and hope my surg goes as easy as your did.

    The fill...who cares?

I saw a doctor other than my surgeon for maintenance, who said he'd remove all Fluid and measure it before putting any more in it. Knowing is important because it let's you and your doctor know how much of an adjustment can be made. Sadly, I had to go back to my surgeon for a fill, and, without knowing what was in my band, he added more. I haven't been able to keep food down, barely keeping liquids down, and I'm going back to get out of this red zone. Luckily, because it's within a week of my fill, they aren't charging for another one. I always wondered what would be the big deal if your band was too tight, you'd just lose weight faster. Uh uh. It's miserable. I can burp up Water, can't even keep down liquidy mashed potatoes. It's been almost a week of this, and i don't think he'll could be worse... Be informed, know what works, and encourage your doctor to do the same. Or find another one.
  14. My wedding ring is too loose and I'm afraid I will lose it. I don't like not wearing anything. My husband suggested a temporary wedding band so I could wait until I get to goal weigh to have it resized. We went to James Avery. They have sterling silver wedding bands and they look nice. I found one for only $49. Plus, they allow you to trade-in for half off. So, as I continue to lose I can trade this one in for only $25 until I hit goal weight. Anyone else have the same problem?

the pouch test i not a permanent weight loss solution, but does help you feel your restriction, and if you are not good about getting in your protein, it helps get you back on track.

    First Fill

I have my first fill tomorrow. I am very nervous. I have no tolerance for pain. I don't know what to expect, but I hope to lose weight afterward. I have been at a standstill for nearly a month.
  17. I had mine done march 2008, I am still losing, very slowly but I am very happy about it, is anyone else having the same results. I have lost 110 pounds I need another 40. Does the band keep working after 3 years??

    Terrified of gaining

I can ditto every word Gail said!! I can understand being terrified of weight gain but it may happen, as it did for me, and I've managed to not go crazy and gain everything back. I lost 65 lbs in a year, and gained 15 back after putting my dog to sleep. I didn't go off the deep end, just made bad choices because I didn't care about anything but my grief. Now I'm back on track and losing again. I'd like to be back where I was at my one year follow up appointment, at my two year in June. Then maybe lose the last ten. No matter what, this surgery was a success for me, and I'm exactly where I need to be. I learned a LOT about myself through all this, especially about why I always turn to food, and am continuing to learn.

    Shape wear

This piece (available at JCPenney) has worked well for me. I have it in both nude and black (size medium), but need to replace them both in a small size. http://www.jcpenney.com/maidenform-shape-wear-your-own-bra-singlet-2556/prod.jump?ppId=16f44d6&rrplacementtype=category_page.rvi1_json Like others above have said, some of this shapewear still works well at neighboring sizes (as you lose weight). But at some point you just gotta embrace being a small.

    Greeneyes where r u??

Greeneyes. Good to hear you are on the mend. I can understand you must be feeling so frustrated with your recovery, but hang in there. A friend of mine went through the same thing many years ago and it was a battle but she did get there. try not to let it get you down. And 33 kilos is great weight loss, well done:thumbup: I know what it feels like to think people are looking at you and I know this is easy for me to say, but walk with your head held high, be proud and just say "fuc* em". Good luck

    How much is to much?

My RnY was not just because of my weight but because of diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea. The main catalyst being that I have a birth defect in my right tibia. Have had 8 bone transplants, 3 from my own hips. The bone is still fragile and I have worn a brace on it all my life. Now my left knee that pulled the brunt of my weight always needs replacement. I could not lose the weight neccessary so it would be safe for my right leg to even begin to handle the stress of extra weight. I have been over weight to some extent most of my life. To much time sitting to heal and do not much. I embrace this adventure whole heartedly. I can't wait till the weight starts coming off.[emoji300] [emoji301] [emoji300] [emoji301] [emoji300] Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not known for my patience! I was hoping for even a pound or two down just to give me that extra bit of hope. I feel tired all the time and I know my body is lacking in something to keep me alert, but I don't know what to do. I'm taking vitamins, B supplements, calcium and I'm very hydrated. I would think that my body would be content and was to get rid of some more fat, but alas it does not. I guess it's hard to evict a long time resident. I suppose I need to focus on my mid range goal of another 25 pounds by Christmas Day when we leave for a week of skiing and I have to fit into a new pair of ski pants that I bought a size too small. That is my main focus. My old ski pants aren't flattering, the new ones make my ass look good! Now if they'd just fit around my waist. Perspective- keep everything in perspective. I think I'll go out and get a manicure and go shopping today. I'm treating myself for the past two weeks that I have done well. I did lose 11 pounds after all. Better than gaining.
  24. To me, the best thing you can do now is to make SURE, that you understand why you are fat. Sure, you eat too much and don't exercise enough (so say we all), but you must go deeper. The band is only a tool and not the solution. If you don't get to a deep and truthful understanding of your current situation, then the band will be ineffective in the long term. I'm not saying you need a ton of counseling, but you do need some considerable time in self-examination. If your issues are emotional, then you may indeed need professional help. If it is a lack of education, then get education. If it is a lack of support, then I suggest you look at OA and/or Weight Watchers. If it is a lack of desire, then take a hard look at where your health is heading. Once you come to terms with who you are and why you are in this situation, then you can determine whether the band is a good fit for you. As an example, some get banded thinking that the band will make them unable to eat bad things or to somehow fill an emotional void. NOT true. Sure, it works well with the volume of food you can eat at one time, but doesn't stop you from pounding a large milkshake or munching on chocolate all day. With the band, YOU will still be responsible for wise choices.
  25. @@Proud2BMe - I have seen where I thought it was a bit pre-mature but that's the doctors decision. If the skin is removed to help mobility or prevent sores I understand that, but for vanity - I don't see why the rush into surgery. About 10yrs ago my OB/GYN mentioned me getting a breast reduction. I was probably about 20lbs heavier than I am now. I had considered it but I also have read that the closer to healthier weight is better for a breast reduction. Why? Because breast tissue generally stores fat and if I had surgery at 200lbs and then lost 35lbs (close to my target weight) the surgery would need to be repeated because "the girls" would probably deflate. Weight comes off everyone at different places and at different times. I have gained pretty much over my entire body and when I lose it tends to come of my stomach first, legs/arms next....boobs last.
