Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

My tastes really have changed also. Some other proteins I eat are hummus, different beans, i like veggie burgers. I also make "sandwiches" with low fat cold cuts and cheeses and use lettuce in place of bread. I am sort of hooked on those right now. I don't know if you like tofu or not, I think it tastes like what ever you cook it in. Shrimp is one of my favorites because you can make it so many ways. I also make cheesburgers on th george forman grill with lean ground beef. A lot of of the extra grease drips out and again I replace buns with lettuce. You can also add some nuts to salads. Just watch serving size. I also have a natural peanut butter that I use with apples or bananas. Just measure it accurately. Greek yogurt is high in protein, not a fan of yogurt since surgery though. Also I tried Quest bars, very high in protein. They have a weird chewy texture, come in tons of flavors, maybe you could find one you like.

    Puree stage question

On our plan, we were allowed to choose soft foods and chew till puree. But no veggies, fruits, or red meat. Only canned or ground turkey, chicken or pork. Yogurts, ricotta, eggs and we could add beans after 2 weeks. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any March Sleevers?

Yeah I can eat the "soft" diet now which includes fish, chicken, eggs, and pasta. But im eating VERY small amounts VERY slowly. I have, however, decided to try to eat mostly soups and yogurt for a little while longer. I haven't had any pains or anything though other than that one time w the chicken from eating it too fast.

    no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?

There are nut and coconut yogurts especially for vegans. I like coconut milk best of all the alternate milks.

    June 2006 Band Crew

Reginia - try eating an activia everyday (like yogurt). Make sure you get the one for regularity. I was having awful problems like you and I started having Activia. It really seems to help. One of the things I noticed is that if it is "bad" for you, the band will allow you to eat it. I have been really "afraid" to eat things off the program. I'm not good or better than anyone, just scared. I have read so much about the problems that I'm scared to try things. I was so surprised that we can eat tortilla chips. My doctor says its OK, just not a lot of them. I eat them with my chili con queso as part of my meal sometimes. I haven't tried candy, cake, pies, pasta, rice, or popcorn. I do like my animal crackers and sometimes pretezels. Both of those foods you can chew until they are nothing. I sometimes have ice cream, but try to resist. I am going to try eating more protein and see if that helps to keep me full. I am very hungry now with the unfill, but will stay on mushies for a few days. I don't want any more problems. I think we can eat hot wings and nachos during football as long as we count it as lunch or dinner. The real problem I see is forgetting what you are doing and not chewing well or eating too much. Never lose concentration. :welldoneclap: Hang in there everyone. We're going to make it.

    October Bandsters!!!

Back to work today! Am worried about being to keep up with the required diet plan while at my desk, but also think I tended to get bored at home so wanted to eat, even though I wasn't truly hungry. One thing the doctor was right about - am definitely NOT hungry in the mornings. It is all I can do to keep down a protein shake before noon. Am still "brain hungry" in the evenings, though. Gas pains are pretty much gone, still get a few after I eat. Mushies are so much better than I thought they ever could be - who knew that I liked oatmeal and yogurt?? (Never used to like it!) Am looking forward to regular food starting Oct. 24, just for the variety. Reading the postings from those banded the last couple of days, I want to tell you - it DOES get better! The "liquid in, liquid out" was horrible, but does goes away. If not stated on your diet, ask your doctor if you can have yogurt - it really does help that. Ticker is messed up so just adding a note to signature to keep track - 15 so far, and am pretty sure it will be more when I weigh in tomorrow.

Ok guys I have a really strange phenomenom (sp?) going on with my band, I can eat meat just fine, but I cannot eat yogurt, mashed pot. , or soft foods. Now is that weird or what?? Even in the evening. But I haven't had a problem with any meats so I can't be overfilled. This is so weird!!!!
  9. Oy!...then that wisecrack about yogurt totally wasn't funny!! womp-woommp :(Would you care for me to drizzle some more lemon juice into that papercut George? Cause I can, you know. heh heh.

Any Boston, Ma Gastric Sleevers Out There?

Hi! I am doing great! I was discharged the following day. I was pretty sore at first, but it's much more manageable now. I'm ready to take on the world haha! I am on liquids right now, so only protein shakes, broth, sf jello, water, herbal tea, and crystal light. Thursday I can move on to cream soups, yogurt, and sf pudding. It was tough yesterday with the weather being so nice my family had barbecue chicken, macaroni salad, and all of that good stuff. I seriously wanted to lick the sauce off, but I stayed strong. I am already seeing changes. My bra is a little looser and I feel like my lower chub roll is less puffy( haha I refuse to call it a fupa) Thanks for thinking of me!! Definitely made my day : )
  11. hello November sleevers!! as som of you know I was sleeved Monday. was relapsed yesterday. The surgery was textbook. I woke in recovery in some pain, more discomfort than anything else. Very sore. I woke up in my room that night with vicious dry mouth. Every time I tried to move it was so uncomfortable. For a brief moment laying in my bed a couple hours after surgery I asked "why did I do this" Then a wonderful nurse realized I was uncomfortable. She got me a cold sponge lolly pop to use on my lips and tongue. That, mixed with painkillers I received I began to change my tune :-) I woke up the day after surgery feeling better. Went for the leak test and passed. I was so happy bout that. Then they removed my catheter (guys worst nightmare) After said catheter was removed life got a whole lot better. Because I passed my leak test I was able to have water and diet juice or decaf coffee and tea. Even ate some yogurt. I was feeling much better at this point. Still sore of course, I mean I just had major surgery. I tried to fight the pain meds and that was my biggest mistake. I don't everyone to think I was excruciating pain, it was more discomfort from the gas pains and Soreness from the incision sites and external drain. Side note : Dr Kim is a brilliant surgeon. I honestly believe she is at the top of her field . My incisions sites look like tiny scratches, they are so clean and are healing incredibly. I want to take another minute to acknowledge her personality and her bedside manner. She made time to see me personally 4 times after surgery. With her hectic scheduled that meant alot. She explained my leak test In detail to me and my mom. She explained that when I woke up it wouldnt be pain so much as a pressure in your chest. Boy was she right! So after Getty some fluids in I started to feel much better. I went for a few walks with a physical therapist that actually made me feel better, to be up and moving. They bring an assortment of bariatric fluids to your room 3 times a day, to see which one you can tolerate. Plain yogurt never tasted so good! The I had my drain taking out after realizing I was healing properly. I was able to take a shower after the
  12. Sounds like things are going well. Good for you. I hope everyone else is doing well. I got okayed to get in the pool and walk around, which I have been doing. Getting in no problem being in no problem getting out - I do feel a bit of tugging and pulling on my tummy and that's due to that silly thing we call gravity. While inside the pool your body is compressed by the water, the 1/2 way in with the belly and 1/2 way out is not that comfy. My incisions are healed, but I have a few annoying white stitches (suppose to be dissolvable sticking out that will need to be trimmed which irritate me a bit. I'm still on full liquids, though I have gotten in some watery instant mashed with added unjury unflavored protein, I did try watery scrambled eggs (less than 1/2 egg (eggbeaters) and a few teaspoons of 1% cottage cheese (these are considered Pureed - but the protein shakes were gagging me and I had to try something). I live mostly on seriously pureed and watered down bean and bacon soup I can get in less than 1/4 cup of soup for dinner. I had Cream of asparagus last night, which was pureed first before adding skim and cooking. I can only get in 1/4 of a cup of soup a day, plus 1/2 small container of yogurt or 1/2 a sugar free pudding. I'm still hitting on 450-489 calories a day. I'm doing better on my protein. I bought the nectar, which I had yesterday but though I decided to try my frosty chocolate this morning to see if I am doing better than Monday, each sip is still hit or miss, but I'm getting it down better today than Monday. I try to get in 6-8 isopure a day too. I have had a lot of personal tragedies in my personal life which has been painful lost a friend and a beloved pet last week, but I'm trying to stay positive, though I admit I am getting cranky. 5 week post-op check up and meeting with nutritionist is Monday. I better....be allowed pureeds...I would like to try pureed tuna and I have had the stupid pouches in the fridge for 2 weeks hoping for the day I get to move along. Sometimes I worry that I will never be able to get down more than a 3 teaspoons of anything down at a sitting and I will always be abnormal. It's not really about the food, it's about the fact that I take a few sips of soup or 2 teaspoons of cottage cheese and I felt like I had a 16 ounce steak and baked potato. Poop talk below - beware! BM's are hard to come by. For those suffering liquid in liquid out, I miss those moments. I miss the gas and water. I am taking a prescription of amitiza (like colace) and resorted to suppositories for now and am waiting to see if I can start metamucil or something else soon, because ....I know I'm a girl, but I miss farting and I miss pooping. I have had severe issues with intestines in the past with adhesions around them, and I have had diverticulitis and I get polyps and I just know that going potty is good for you, not going potty is not good for you and that's playing with my head a bit. The weather is humid and hitting a 100 and nobody in my family really wants to go walking with me at night. I almost went this morning but it was already miserable out. I am going to attempt the gazelle again, but it pulled a bit too much on my tummy a few days ago when I tried. Unfortunately, I had a hernia repair and of course some pretty good complications so I have to take it light, but I would really like to get more exercise in. Weight loss has slowed to a crawl, I have weighed the same basically for almost a week (i've gotten on the scale in the afternoon to enjoy a 3+ on the scale just to be down the next day) and it's probably due to the heat and I'm going to cut myself some slack though it gets on my nerves a bit. Everyone says I look like I lost a lot more weight, so maybe it's inches though my tummy is still nice and swollen. I would think after 5 weeks it would have dropped by now. I have nice curves on my sides but 2 inches above my belly button is jetted out still. Obviously I'm healing slow, maybe my age and Lupus is causing me to be a slower healer. I'm still happy I had the surgery. I had a goal of 199 by July 18th, the way I was losing I was certain I would make it, but this up & down thing has me crawling. I hope everyone else if feeling well and every day is a little better than the day before. Good luck healing and enjoying the loser's bench.

I agree with what you have stated. it has nothing to do with what GummyTummy is or isnt doing or craving. it isnt about craving. It is about making a LIFE SYLE change and keeping it after the honemoon phase. If you choose to ignore the changes during this and not learn how to change the idea of food in your head, like anything else, one=ce the honeymoon phase is over, the pounds ill come back on. IT WILL HAPPEN. I have seen it in many folks that i have mentored in the last 2 years. Pizza, yeah, I dont deny myself, but I either eat the topings or make my own with caulifour crust. Still only a peice or two depending on size. Chipotle...I never liked it bfore, so i dont eat it now. But for other thins like dorito's.. I do have about 11 chips a week...all in one sitting. then done till next week. I allow myself some of my favorites and I account for them in what else I eat that day. I have almost all cut out out the rice, the potatoes, the bread...cookies, cakes, all the good stuff and exchanged them with other healthy options - or - i have found ways to incorporate my old favs by making them more suited to my new lifestyle. Sugar free cake with added protein powder, Rice noodles to make noodle salads and the dressing mied half greek yogurt, half mayo and a scoop of protein powder... my family cannot taste the difference AND i get what i need. As far as WHEN we can eat these nummyliscous food again, it is 1) based on individual doctors plan and 2) when the individual body is going to handle different foods. For me, burger was a nogo until almost a year out. but chocolate...oh baby, I could do it at 3 months. Chips--with in a month. per my body of course. The docs plan said never. lol I agree with your statements. She (GummyTummy) isnt being helpful.

    2/15! Anyone else?

Thanks!! I thought maybe you meant grams when you were talking about the protein? Someone gave me info about a powder protein that each scoop gives 30 grams of protein. It dissolves well in water. If you like yogurt there are some with high protein - sometimes 12.

The protein is well balanced and is particularly rich in the amino acid lysine, which is difficult to obtain from other vegetable sources. It is also high in calcium, phosphorous, vitamins B and E. Quinoa is a very versatile food plant that can be cooked many ways and tastes excellent. The grain can be used as a hot cereal; used in soups, casseroles and souffles; used in the place of almost any other grain, including rice; ground into flour; and toasted. An imaginative chef can find many more uses and ways to prepare Quinoa than those given above. Dishes ranging from appetizers through desserts can be prepared from Quinoa. Capt. Dan: I found a good breakfast the other day, if you like coconut and pineapple. Toast pineapple in pan with pam. Take ff vanilla yogurt, top with drained pineapple tidbits. Top with coconut. I haven't figured the protein on that but it had an amazing taste...and I could only eat half it was filling.

[quote=Lisa ]Carbsmart is made by Kroger (Ralph's). My FAVORITE way to eat greek yogurt is to whip up 2 tbs of Trader Joe's Organic whipped cream cheese with 8 oz of 0% greek yogurt (my personal favorite is Trader Joe's b/c the Protein content is so high). I add a few drops of vanilla extract as well and I sweeten with Splenda. Tastes like cheesecake!!!! I add blueberries or strawberries and then I sprinkle with 1/2 of a crushed graham cracker. It's AMAZING!!! i can never eat it all so I usually split into 2 servings. What is the protein content in trader joes yogurt? I don't normally shop there, but I easily could.

Me too!!!!! How are you doing? I had my first yogurt today!
  24. Interesting, I just had to go look at my paperwork again to see if I had a stage 1 and I skipped it lol, I was actually told by my nutritionist to have sips of protein drinks in the hospital and I couldn’t keep it down which I’m not surprised now knowing that some of have protein drinks in stage 2 mine was very a lax transition where it was when you can have protein drinks drink them and if you can handle soups drink them with no timeline until the puréed stage which I’m so hyped for! Glad your having yogurt!

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Hey Ron! I had my BP on the 6th. I’m doing pretty good as well. I don’t start vitamins until Tuesday a full two weeks after surgery. I guess they want to make sure I’m eating something to protect me from getting nausea. I saw my nutritionist yesterday and he said I can ease into soft foods with yogurt and cottage cheese. Luckily I love both! I was able to have about 1/2 a cup without feeling uncomfortable. I just stopped eating and I wasn’t hungry or wanting more. A few hours later same thing with a Greek yogurt. I’m so ready for eggs, tuna, cheese etc. I also was told to wear my binder for 4 weeks. It definitely makes me feel more secure. My glue is still on my incisions. I guess they put a super deluxe hospital grade glue on me. I’m not scrubbing it off or peeling it off until it comes off naturally. I’m too scared to open something up. So, good luck my friend. And everyone else hang in there with your liquid diets. It’s definitely worth it. It will make your surgery go smoother and recovery easier. 💖💖💖
