Hi I'm just about week 4 and even though I have no trouble with food so far, I don't have the time to constantly eat 2 oz portions in order to get enough Protein. So I am doing my best with food and then supplementing with shakes. Most days I have a greek yogurt or cottage cheese, turkey slices rolled up in provolone, chicken breast or tuna fish. If I go out to a restaurant I order fish or some other soft meat, like a pulled pork or chicken or I have sashimi. I snack on babybel or other types of cheese. I honestly haven't tried veggies yet, mostly because I haven't had room after getting in my protein.

Not sure what stage you are at so I'll base it on the guidelines my nutritionist gave me. At week 4 I was still on purees so Breakfast was typically greek yogurt but occasionaly I would have a soft scrambled egg or 2oz small curd cottage cheese. lunch was either tuna or chicken pureed with a little plain greek yogurt. dinner was the same or ricotta bake. I was still doing at least one but usually 2 shakes a day to meet my Protein goal. I'm now 6 weeks out and on soft foods. Based on my plan's guidelines (they vary widely amongst surgical teams), breakfast is 2oz cottage cheese with 1oz of either unsweetened applesauce or no sugar added diced peaches. i still rotate a scrambled egg or hard boiled egg in there too to break up the monotony. Lunch is 2 oz of low sodium/low fat lunch meat (turkey, ham or roast beef) wrapped around a low fat string cheese - I use about 1tsp of mustard to dip it in. Dinner has been 2oz of tilapia (it stays nice and soft when cooked, change up the flavor by using different herbs - i really like greek seasoning on it), 2-3oz shrimp or 2oz soft chicken with 1-2oz vegetables - so far I've had carrots and green Beans, again cooked really soft. I still have one Protein shake as a snack to meet my protein goal.

Food items that I am scared of..
mistybell replied to Lema's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had everything on that list since my surgery in March except for homemade yogurt. That's only because I've never made my own yogurt, I've had plenty of the store-bought stuff. My surgeon's plan has been quite flexible and nothing is truly off-limits for me now that I've advanced through all of the stages of the post-surgery diet. If those foods are personally trigger foods for you, avoiding them is a good idea if that is what will help you be successful. However, if you have been brought to tears by eating something that could have otherwise been incorporated into a healthy eating plan it would be a good idea to seek a professional to discuss your food anxiety. Getting a boost from a therapist is another tool that would likely increase your ability to be successful. Good luck to you! -
I'm 6 weeks post-op and as of the last 3 days have had daily nausea after having Breakfast (which is usually Greek yogurt or cottage cheese (vegetarian, no-eggs). I'm drinking Water as I've done last few weeks. I've had an extremely smooth recovery so far but now this has popped up out of nowhere. I contacted the practice nurse yesterday and she said it could be a thiamine (B1) deficiency (I take Multivitamins every day so that didn't sound right). She said to get bloodwork if it continues. Has anyone had this happen suddenly a few weeks out? I feel like I'm constantly trying not to throw up (and haven't since surgery).

Late night head hunger
LowBMISleever replied to betterme38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too. I just keep "eating" - hot chicken broth for the salty craving, then SF Jello, SF popsicle, and right before bed I have 3oz of L&F yogurt. It helps. Not sure I'll ever break the habit. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Can't get protein in
sailaway replied to MarieLouise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks too. Sources of Protein and basically my diet right now ( they are all liquid/pureed protein for the most part right now, still the easiest to get in the most protein if liquid form): shakes. I do unjury brand chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla (blend with ice, milk, some banana) and the Premier Protein. Unjury Unflavored protein (mix this into avocado, sugar free pudding etc.) Unjury chicken Soup (If I get tired of the taste, I mix in a little tomato or potato cream Soups, just a bit changes the flavor) Greek Yogurts (Dannon light & fit) Cottage Cheese Avocados Scrambled Eggs I know one thing my nutrionist stressed about the high protein diet, is that it helps protect your muscle too, so you don't lose muscle, which isn't good. High protein diet protects the muscle and burns off fat cells. At least that is how I understood it. -
About to start Pureed foods....how do I fit in protein?
smg replied to Nikkipit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly I think it was easier to get my proteins in during the pureed/soft stage than any other. I just add unflavored whey protein to just about everything....yogurt, cottage cheese, soup broth, etc. Also sipping your protein shakes in between meals will also help. I used water with my shakes instead of milk or almond milk (which I use now). It helps keep you hydrated as well. -
So I'm 2 weeks post-op and started my semi-solid foods today. I have been through an emotional roller coaster dealing with my food addiction since pre-op diet started. I am happy to tell that my worries have subsided because I was able to tolerate everything I tried today! Yogurt, oatmeal (watery), and a softly scrambled egg with some low fat cheese!! I was very nervous about getting stuck or nauseous or whatever but, I think because I was so worried I really paid attention to the guidelines of eating with my new pouch! So relieved!! Just wanted to add a little happy to the forum! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That doesn't sound like too much food at all. I easily can eat a yogurt at one sitting. I didn't realize we could have bread, hmmm ...i mean yum my eating has been pretty boring...on the move and never really hungry. I try to have chicken or steak strips a couple times a day with a couple bites of veggies. Usually a light baby bell cheese and somewhere in the day some triple zero Greek yogurt Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

This sounds like what happens with that diet pill Orlistat. I would ask younger surgeon about it. Why can't you have yogurt or cream soups? Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App You definitely need to increase fluids! -

Have Any Of You Eaten Solid Food Before You Were Supposed To?
pascui19 replied to ginajet77's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My dr only put me on a week with liquids and then 3 weeks with soft-purer foods, I'm still on the second week of the purée stage. The only thing is that they only let me eat soups with chicken and boiled vegetable for example. I've been reading post and websites in the US (I'm from Chile) to see what other things I can eat otherwise is barely tolerable for that long! So I've tried refreshing beens, chicken salad(mayo, chicken and yogurt ) also crab salad (same as before with crab) So far everything has been ok. I still need to wait until September to eat solids! I'm looking forward that phase! -
26 Days Post Op First Solid Dinner
heidikat72 replied to GetBack_095's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen on some other posts and blogs where people who have trouble getting meat down, make a little bit of a dip to help moisten it - think greek yogurt with some herbs and spices added. Might be worth a try and the yogurt will give you more protein! -
Liquid Diet Post-Op length?
KristenLe replied to guy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@guy17 Try adding something with electrolytes. On your full liquid diet, are you allowed creamed Soups (strained)? Try drinking more of the Protein shakes too. I am pre-op but I only have 7 days of full liquids and then purees. One thing to consider too - if you are on blood pressure meds - they may need to be adjusted. If you still get lightheaded - call your surgeon - they may allow you to add yogurt. Good luck! -

How much is everyone eating... I feel like I'm eating too much. I'm losing weight still but... Yesterday, I made a tuna salad with a boiled egg and put 1/3 of it on a whole wheat toast.. I ate 75%.. is that too much? Also, I eat a whole 5 oz yogurt.. takes me forever to get that stuff in, but the yogurt is my breakfast because i never have time to sit and eat. I'm constantly moving when I wake up. For dinner I have a snack or I finish up my protein... My calories are still 500-650.. Any input? -
I get like that when i have dairy milk..yogurt even my premier Protein shake.. it sucks but I still have em..I just make sure im home or close to a bathroom. our stomachs are still sensitive I guess

Hey Everyone, so I had my surgery on Mon-July-25th & started a liquid diet on July 24th. I am still on a liquid diet and I am 8 days post op. I was wondering how long you were on a liquid diet after surgery? I am starting to get hungry (even though most of it is my mind playing tricks), but it would be nice to have some pureed food or even yogurt! Yesterday I started getting lightheaded and it's back again today I am drinking my liquids, having broth, jello, & premier protein. Did any of you go through this?
