    The Kind Words of Strangers

Thanks everyone! What is NSV?? I went to a friends daughters birthday party yesterday. There were lots of old friends there that I havent seen in about a year. Each person saw me and there mouth just dropped. One woman said "you are just melting away!" Another didnt speak to me for about an hour. When I approached her and asked how she was doing, her reply was OMG, Karen is that you. She didnt even recognize me with my weightloss and new hairstyle. I hadnt seen her since right after my surgery 2 yrs ago. I love this. So close to ONEderland. I hope to be there in the next week or two. Thanks for all the support everyone!
  4. I took my Grandbabies to an indoor Water park and not only did I look good in my daughter's swim suit,, I PARTICIPATED! I climbed the tower with nets and went in one of those tubular slides with them, you know the enclosed long winding ones? Yes me, at 47 for the first time ever in my life I did not say I could not, I said I WILL and I DID! I was not self conscious the whole time or afraid of getting stuck. We spent the whole day in the water park and I have the butt burns to prove it:) oh and pics too! We followed the long day by a wonderful dinner of crab legs at Joe's Crab shack,. Swimming makes you hungry or in my case shaky weak from low blood sugar
  5. Haven't posted in a while, but wanted to share. Tomorrow is my 12th wedding anniversay and I was able to fit, comfortably, into the nightgown I wore on my wedding night! DH will be so surprised....I don't know why I saved it, but found it in a drawer as I was doing yet another closet purge. I'm so glad I hung onto it While its been expensive having to buy clothes, I am so proud at being in a 14 - not a W 14, a 14 -14. When I started last Feb I was pushing into a 24W. I have now bought and worn 2 very shapely dresses that show off the waist I didn't know I had. It is beyond a kick to know that I look good...still working my band and am not sure where I will finally settle, but am enjoying the journey.

    The Kind Words of Strangers

wonderful! I have people say they don't remember me fat. I think it was because they ignored that "fat lady". Many others say that I look like I lost enough weight now. I tell them, yes, I am satisfied with my loss. Strangers will be surprised when they see my ID and see this fat lady. I only have had one changed, but not my drivers license. Bask in your NSV!

    Post Op Day 8

Congrats on your NSV!! I have a question: does every sleever get drains? I have seen some people talk about having to pull out their own (very small) drain and others never mention a drain. Thanks!!

    Six months today

Susieq, It sounds like your from the New Orleans area and so am I! Where are you from in New Orleans. I would love to find out more about your weight loss since you are doing so wonderfully. I just got sleeved on 3/3 so I am just starting on my journey. I would love to hear about your experiences. Congratulations on all your NSV's. I can't wait to experience them myself. I look forward to hearing from you and continued success. You can add me as a friend and send me a private response if you would like. Have a great day!

    Six months today

Thanks, y'all. I know my weight loss is a lot less than others at six months, but the NSVs keep me going. As does reading this board.

    Updates

Hello Again! Well done everyone on your weight losses - how are you all doing? It's fab that spring is here, and I certainly have a spring in my step compared with last year! Last time I posted I was in size 18 jeans... well, in Feb I bought a pair of lovely navy tailored East trousers, size 16. Tried them on in the shop, fit beautifully, gorgeous fabric. Went to put them on for the first time yesterday... aaarrgghh! TOO BIG!!! This has happened with a few things that I have bought. I am now in size 14 for most things. Bra size went from 42DD to 34G! Husband says it sounds like a Jordan bra!!. I had my check up from surgeon yesterday. He is pleased with weight loss, am nearly there now. Just need to up the exercise a bit. I had some hair loss, but that is thickening up now - I can recommend a Kerastase product my hairdresser gave me - has been amazing. Only other downside was my Vitamin D levels plummeted, but a quarterly concentrated dose puts it right. I also get cramp in my shin... ow ow ow! Lack of magnesium apparently - supplements seem to have sorted it out! Don't worry about stalled weight loss; it has happened to me from time to time, but soon gets going again. You are still changing shape, and need to keep noting the NSVs (non scale victories!) I want to do the Moonlight Bra walk this year - anyone know anything about it? Or is anyone doing th Run for Life in Cambridge? If you do it as a power walk, I'll join you!! x
  12. It's been six months since the surgery. I've lost 73 pounds (but have actually been 99 pounds heavier than I am now). I'm still not in onederland, but I'm approaching it. The NSVs have been wonderful. People are noticing not only the difference in my weight, but also the difference in my level of energy. I feel great! A few small NSVs - sitting in a booth this week and not worrying if I'd fit! Realizing that I no longer get in a weird position to tie my shoes! Wearing some tops that I never imagined I could fit in again. Feeling kind of normal sized, even though I know I'm not, yet. Spending a Saturday running errands instead of hiding in my house. BIG NSV - allowing someone that I knew in high school to see me. This has been one of my biggest neurotic things, not seeing people from high school. But I went somewhere last week where I KNEW I'd see this person and be seen and it was not only fine, it was great! BIG NSV - dancing in public. In my job, one of the things I do is take people out to Cajun dance. I always watched, but I always felt that nobody wants to see the fat lady on the dance floor, but last week I danced. And yesterday at a Mardi Gras event, I did the zydeco waltz and the two step on the big stage. IN FRONT OF PEOPLE. AND I WAS GOOD! (Well, my partner was excellent, so he made me look good.) There are more, but I need to get ready for work.

Why Don't I Feel Like I am Losing Weight?

Taylee_Rose: I know exactly how you feel. My problem is that since I have so much to lose it's like I see the numbers on the scale and that's it. Of course I am glad I am losing, but I am just so anxious to get this weight off of me. I keep telling myself that it didn't come on overnight, so I shouldn't expect it to come off overnight. I am trying not to become so fixated on those numbers and neither should you. Focus more on how you feel and how you look. Are you getting compliments? You probably are! Are you feeling better and doing things you couldn't do before this journey? Probably so! Look at your scale victories as well as your NSVs, you're doing great! Keep up the good work!

My silly nsv: So when I don't have pockets I often stash my phone in my bra. Today I did that and when I bent over my phone kept falling out! I guess there's more room in there now!

    I'm here to help...

Good morning to all. Had a busier weekend than I imagined, but happy with it -- went to Sam's on Sat. and then yesterday was SS"s birthday dinner -- went well. The cake was quite good - i did have tiny piece, very rich. Julie, I am very concerned and hope all goes well today. I somehow missed the e-mail about your going in the hospital. Will be thinking of you today. Meredith, hope you feel better today and don't get any sicker -- I've been lucky and haven't really had much this winter. Yes, you've come to the same conclusion I have -- Protein and no carbs and maybe one day a week for treats -- it seems to work for me. I've been maintaining at 138 now for several weeks -- would like to see the scale move a bit but won't complain as long as I can maintain. I checked my fill records -- I'm at 5.75 -- I was at 6.25 last year when I was too tight and they took .500 out. I'm fine here -- dont' want/need any more -- in fact I had a couple of stuck episodes last week where I slimed -- need to chew chew chew. I see my ortho surgeon for follow up on my hip and he's also going to look at my shoulder and see what is going on with that. Hope it's nothing serious -- but it's been bugging me for months and months. Phyl, I'm with you -- I'd want that surgery done asap too -- why not have the doctor in So. Cal do it instead of waiting to go home? Since you've lost all that weight and exercise I'm sure you're in good shape for surgery -- that's why I was able to get my hip done so quickly -- another NSV. If I need something done to this shoulder I'll want it done right away too - no sense putting it off in my opinion. Saw some pics on FB that Jodi has been posting -- looks like the girls are having a blast at the bat mitzvuhs. I think Dassi's is next weekend - I know it's soon. Need to call and check on my brother -- haven't heard any more -- last i heard they weren't going to do the surgery but seeing if the lung will stabilze and not fill back up again. He's at a great hospital so I feel confident in whatever they decide to do. His son is a student there so I know he's getting the best of the best of care. My little dental surgery caused me some pain over the weekend -- hope nothing is wrong -- just really sore all weekend but seemed to be a bit better yesterday/last night -- so I think I'm healing. The stitches are still in place so that's good. Well, it's Monday -- have a good day and week every one. Lori, so happy that Katelyn is healthy and going home -- she'll get the hang of breast feeding - it's always a struggle at first -- they'll both get it - they have lots of support and help these days and it's so good for the baby. I'm sure you'll be going ot Denver a lot more now. CBL Love to all. Linda

    Naughty NSV

What an awesome NSV! I can not wait to experience those NSV's for myself. Have fun in your sexy lingerie.
  20. In a former chapter of my life, I purchased a nice selection of very nice lingerie. Naturally, once I did this, I immediately gained all the weight back I had lost (it seems like it only took 5 minutes). I packed my niceties away for another day. THE OTHER DAY IS HERE! So I can wear my lovelies once again!!! NO more granny pants!! Here's more NSVs: Shoes fit better, men pay attention to me, women pay attention to me. I can sit in any chair, I flew on an airplane and was actually comfortable, can sit in a restaraunt booth, me knees don't hurt, my 3x belt is too large, I have met really wonderful people through this forum. For those contemplating this surgery or feeling a little scared, please know this has changed my life for the better. Is it easy? Some days are easier than other, mainly because I cannot leave the house without planning my meals and Snacks. But other than that,no problems. I'm done...thanks for listening. XXX Fit

Okay, call me stupid, but I've seen "NSV" all over this board, what the heck does it stand for???

    NSV

I went to the Dr. yesterday for my annual check up and they gave me "the gown" to put on ANNNDD....it fit! It was the regular gowns they always have that always leave my tid bits showing, but not this time! YYAAAYYY!!!
  23. I've made it through my first week post sleeve and am going strong. Started full liquids today, but boy am I sick of sweet stuff. I had about a quarter of a special k Protein drink (bad idea), and then later about 2 oz of Soup which wasn't too bad. I'm still occasionally having these weird stomach cramp like feelings, and I can feel everything when it hits my pouch....such a weird feeling! I did have my first NSV today (I have yet to buy a scale...I should get on that..) I went to get dressed and I thought, eh, what the heck? Why not try on the pair of jeans that were a bit too tight for me before surgery. They buttoned all the way with ZERO effort! Holy hooters that happened quick! granted, I'm not down a whole size yet, but I'll take it! I have also noticed (this may be TMI and for that, I'm sorry) that my stools are happening more frequently than usual (like 2-3 times a day) and they are all liquid. I know I'm on a liquid diet, but is this normal? Kinda weird. Other than that, life is returning to normal. I've been walking walking and walking some more, and the soreness subsides a little more everyday. I opted not to go back to work today because I'm just not feeling 100% just yet, but i will be back on Monday. Other than that, not too much going on, just thought I'd catch up!

    NSV

The husband was taking some clothes out of the dryer ( he does not do this often) and he pulled out a pair of my jeans and said "Who's are these" I gave him a funny look and said mine why? He said "No, way, they like Tammy's".. Now mind you, Tammy is his sister and she probably wears like a size 1 or 2. I laughed and said thanks, but I am no where near Tammy's size. He really was shocked, he could not see it on me, but when he held up my new size pants it suddenly hit him. I really don't think he is capable of seeing sizes, his own or mine.

    NSV shout outs

NSV shout out! At the movies with my loving husband this week. End of movie we are laughing like two teenagers. He PICKS ME UP and gives me a piggy back ride out of the theater. I have not been picked up in decades as his 50somthing back would have snapped. Can not stop smiling. I love my sleeve.
