@tshine01 I can totally relate -- however, if the office staff at my doc's office would fully answer questions, I wouldn't feel the need to send yet another email as follow-up -- for example, there has been much back and forth w/them about what kind of pre-op diet my insurance requires -- first, they said it was the 6-month physician-supervised diet (which I've done), then it was the 8-week with one of their nutritionists (which I started). So I contacted my insurance directly, and they, too, have given me diff answers, UGH -- I'm supposed to hear from someone from the insurance company on Monday w/the definitive answer. I do always try to be polite and ask everything in one email, but when you get partial answers, it begs a follow-up -- hang in there!

I think he migh meant not so much the passing into Onderland as much as he means that you are getting very near your goal weight usually once you are lower than 200 - and that means that yes, lots of people slow down. This is not as much of a roll the dice type of thing as it seems. Even in a stall you create the outcome. Your body still builds, maintains or loses muscle and definition and you feel and act in direct relation to how you are dealing with your emotions and such. This is a very good time to look at your habits. If they have not really, truly changed drastically, they need to do so at this time. FYI - I say this in the middle of a MAJOR stall :/

I am 8 months out and have started a plant based diet. Too much Protein and not enough Fiber has led to a not so happy digestive system. Since I can eat more now, I believe I can still get my protein in along with veggies. Only 2 days in, so the next few weeks should be interesting. I just had my full blood work done last week, so I want to see the results and then compare it to the next one after being plant based for several months. Good luck to you, I don't see a lot of replies from plant based people, but I do believe it is a healthy way to go so long as you meet your protein goals.

The Real Skinny on Post-Op Eating Habits
TLBolin replied to TLBolin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for all of the information! Congratulations on reaching your year+ mark. Don't worry, I won't go to Mexico...again. About ten years ago I went through a serious bout of depression and was only about twenty pounds over weight but went to Mexico and had the band put in. Even the doctor told me it wouldn't work but he did it anyway because I was paying. Now I actually really need it. Let me ask you this and I'm also going to post it to everyone, too but have you had other bariatric surgery before? Is there a difference in pain or recovery time? I'm hearing how much pain some of these folks are in and I had absolutely no trouble with the band EXCEPT for such bad gas pains for a few days that I thought I was having a heart attack but as soon as those subsided I was hungry and able to eat anything. I just had the band removed about 18 months ago because quite literally my pouch had grown to almost the size of the other half. Just asking because I'm trying to gauge my recovery time for work. You also said you had no appetite during the holidays last year, because you didn't feel hungry? How about cravings? I'm pretty sure that's why I eat all the time. Did you feel nauseous, sick, achy, not hungry, out what? It took you a few months to be able to eat regular foods? I don't eat too many sweets or very often but I love meat and fruit. If I could actually afford to only eat fruit I'd be thinner and healthier but who can afford to only eat fruit? Lol. You lost 140 pounds in about 7 months, holy crap! I thought you should only lose about 10lbs per month? I'm at 275 now and would love to see 140/150 but I'd be happy just getting down to 200 again. Sorry if some of the words are wrong. I'm in my phone and auto correct is stupid sometimes. Lol Thanks again! I'm excited, I start my classes on the 7th for six weeks and then they are looking about the beginning of March for surgery. I can't wait. Talk soon! Tara -
3 weeks post op gastric sleeve....always feeling really full when I eat
CloserToFine replied to msredd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing, @msredd. That's exactly how I feel too. I just don't lie down when I feel full -- my nutritionist told me not to lay down for at least 30 minutes after eating or drinking. It's part of the process, I think. It'll get better. This morning I couldn't even eat 1/3 of 1 scrambled egg before needing to stop!! -
3 weeks post op gastric sleeve....always feeling really full when I eat
CassieT replied to msredd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
??? I am 3 weeks and 2 days post op. 3 days ago I was extremely sleepy, my left side pain had came back. I assumed I was dehydrated so I made sure to take it easy and get all my fluids in. The next day I was better but off and on have left side pain that is worse then I have ever felt and at times almost feels like something is falling out. Weird I know..., pain killers help and certain positions I really don't feel anything. I'm concerned cuz it's a new feeling. I'm still eating well without discomfort. Anyone else have these symptoms? -
List Of Food Ideas For Each Stage?
Jakat replied to ashley624's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ashley, The best thing I found for the liquid was the unjury chx soup. On soft foods I bought a magic bullet from target (like $50) and anything my family ate I was allowed to eat as long at it was in bullet for 30-45 seconds. It looks like poop, but it doesn't taste too bad. You should be on liquid for a week or so..then puree for about 3 weeks. Scrambled eggs were good during puree just make sure not to cook them too much. Also I ordered the unjury cheese sauce and put it on stuff like mashed taters, eggs. It is very important to keep your protein up (60-80) and liquids (try to shoot for 64 oz). I am on soft right now and I am able to eat anything that I can mash with fork, so stuff like meatloaf that is soft, chicken breast in a slow cooker with a couple cans of cream of chicken soup so its really soft, but you can't/shouldn't have chicken that is grilled. Tuna fish/salad also has been a staple. Ask you NUT they can give u some great ideas. GOOD LUCK -
3 weeks post op gastric sleeve....always feeling really full when I eat
rosepose replied to msredd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So that's actually not a great sign from what I was told by my Dr. and nutritionist - it can stretch out the sleeve and just generally suck. That pain is part of the feedback your body is giving you - if it hurts it's not good and it's too much. I was told to do the following: get really small bowls/plates and forks/spoons - small bites and slow eating are critical to not putting pressure on things Measure your food before you eat. - get half cup scoops and if that's too much get a 1/3 cup or 1/4th cup scoop and start with that Find a way to eat more slowly. This is hard for everyone of any size - we aren't socialized to eat slowly. For myself I have to eat while doing something else with my hands right now. I type and pick up the bowl and fork (I eat anything that isn't pure liquid with a fork - including yogurt - because it's less shovel like than a spoon) take a bite or two and put the bowl down and go back to typing. As soon as I have the first indication that I'm approaching full I put the bowl and fork into the refrigerator and walk away before it hurts. If I leave it near by I will keep eating absentmindedly and it will hurt. -

Hi Kristy, You may have already been to Japan and returned, but I just wanted to let you and anyone else who may be flying to Japan know about Dr. Kazama and Dr. Seki from the Yotsuya Medical Cube which is a small private hospital located in Tokyo. You can Google the hospital and get the telephone number. Ask for the doctors and they will make sure that you get an appointment. Will you be visiting or will you be living in Japan? Chances are if you are visiting you will not have any problems during your visit. I was on mushies when I flew to Japan 2 weeks after my surgery. The Airlines allowed me to bring small bottles of baby food (meat) due to my dietary restrictions. Actually, they were quite accommodating. Hopefully, you had a great time in Japan!! Leona

How long will this pain and discomfort last
Cutwater replied to Niki15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Niki, At two weeks post op did your surgeon okay bread and peanut butter? I'm a week post op and on week two I start puréed foods for about a four week period. Have to wonder if your temptation to satisfy a craving was the reason for your pain. Stick to your doctors plan if you deviated by eating this food today. Feel better -

Um, hello?? Nobody has any information on this product? Please comment, somebody - anybody! I'm pre-op and anxious and trying to get my ducks in a row, this stuff is all that is avaiable at hand without ordering online and waiting 2 weeks. -
Hello all! My surgery was 6/27, and I was put on solids a week sooner than planned due to severe nausea that pills wouldn't touch. It helped tremendously. I have no pain when eating, only sometimes a slight discomfort once it hits my stomach when I'm full. I only eat eggs, chicken, tuna, some cooked veggies, and only tonight had shrimp. I'm worried that I don't get enough protein in during the day. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites before being full, anymore makes me past the point. I don't drink water afterwards for an hour at least, and I've been working a lot harder to get water in during the day. Has anyone had this issue or worry a month out? I hope to lose 10 lbs a month after that first month. I am about 8 weeks out and my losing pattern is changing from that "I'm losing a pound a day" that happens the first month after surgery - to drop 2 and then hang out at that weight for 4-5 days, drop again etc. Stair steps. I would be happy with 8-12 lbs - actually I am happy with losing anything haha!

I have my post op 2 week this morning and I will make sure I am in the right phase .. -
I had the same problem again today, but not as bad. I even had a hard boiled egg for dinner almost 3 hours ago and didn't feel this full until about an hour after dinner. Jalomum, I had one fill about 6 weeks ago, of 2 cc's in my 10 cc band. That is the only fill I've had. I haven't had a problem with any food getting stuck or anything, so I hadn't thought it would come up now. Thanks for your advice. It was nice to eat some carbs, but it looks like I'll have to go back to a more Protein focused diet.

Damn I'm scared , I love to eat But the one thing I keep thinking is by next year when I wear shorts or skirts my thighs wont rub together. and maybe a bikini ? who knows right ? But seriously when I went in for the first meeting we were given a printed copy of what to expect and seems like all were supposed to go on this two week liquid diet with one meal for lunch and no coffee???? I am up at 2 am Im not going without coffee , cut the cream yes cut the caffine no. But seriously a print out for all that doesn't seem correct . I see alot of the low carb people on here I think I will give my nutritionist a call I went for my pre op dr apt and he said I can feel your rib cage i can do your surgery? this is scary for me do they not understand ? or is this get as many patients in before medical insurances decide not to pay ?

It depends on how far you are flying. If you are planning an overseas flight that would be 8 hours or more then I would say wait.....but I flew home 5 days after my surgery but it was only a 3 hour flight
