  1. So, my Doctor's office kinda surprised me when they scheduled my surgery date. They told me date of Oct 3 and then come back on the 4th for a follow up. I was surprised because everything I have read has had gastric bypass as a two night stay. Has anyone this? If so, how long were you there before you were sent home? What did you bring with you, other than comfy clothes?

    July 2022 peeps!

Thanks - I didn't get to the store yesterday but I will this afternoon. The two "O" words are hard to tell apart and un-pronouncable (is that even a word?). The surgeon had given me a 30-day prescription for the esomeprazole (Nexium), and I told him at the 5 weeks post-op I didn't think it was bad enough to get another prescription. I probably should have taken him up on it. But, I would get something over the counter if it continued. I think I will try the Prilosec over the Nexium. I think I read that it might not last as long, but it might also work faster.
  3. If you are staying hungry I would definitely suggest trying an actual meal replacement shake like the Bariatric advantage. I am only allowed 3 of those per day and clear liquids. Monday is surgery day and I have not cried or died yet so it is definitely something to look into.

    September surgery buddies!!

Hey there. mine is sept 20 too. My doctor only gave me a 1 week pre op and he said to have a broth based soup and an egg. I started it two weeks out anyway because I wanted to get my body used to the diet since it’s similar post opp. It is definitely a struggle but it gets better. I have less headaches now than I did Monday, and I find myself less irritable. Wednesday was really bad I was so so hangry. I would encourage you to check with your doc or nutritionist to see if anything else can be added like a Greek yogurt or jello. Or even the soup broth. good luck. We’ve got this!

    September surgery buddies!!

It all depends what's allowed on your plan. I started mine Tuesday. In addition to 3-4 protein drinks a day, I'm allowed as much clear liquid as I want. That includes broth, as well as SF jello and popsicles. The variety really helps, because psychologically I feel like I'm eating something when I have any of those latter things. I'm also allowed one pickle or cucumber a day and you can bet I'm having that too. I'm really not finding it that hard yet. I just try to keep myself busy, because one of my biggest eating problems has been mindless snacking out of boredom, or as a stress reliever.
  6. Hello everyone I am new on here. I have my surgery September 20th. I’m not so much nervous anymore after reading some of the positive posts on here. I’m really struggling with the 2 weeks post opp and having to mainly drink only protein shakes majority of the week. Can anyone give me some advice please the day’s that I only can drink protein shakes I still be hungry. What else can I try any advice please?

3 years post VSG to RNY

Hi! I had a revision of my sleeve (VSG) to RNY on 8/29/22 for a hiatal hernia repair and severe acid reflux. Since then I feel like I’m doing okay and no longer have any acid reflux symptoms. My only concern is every time I drink something cold to room temperature my stomach hurts really bad. I can sip on warm bone broth and that doesn’t seem to bother me much. I know I’m just out of surgery and healing but should I still be feeling pain in my stomach almost two weeks out? Any insight as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

I hit my 3 week stall at 2 1/2 weeks. It's normal. It'll break and you'll lose weight again. Just stick to your plan and watch for the non scale victories. Those are a huge help.

    August surgery buddies!

I'm 4 days late, and feel miserable!! Besides I'm bloated, my feet are swelling. I've been in the famous 3rd week stall, for 10 days. I decided not weight myself until monday, that is my follow up appointment with my surgeon...counting the days for soft food.

    August surgery buddies!

I've always been a slow loser and the scale is my nemesis. I'm considering just monthly weigh-ins, so I can look at it like your cousin. It does keep adding up over time, we're all impatient! And I've said before, we read these forums at there's some statistical outlier who loses a bazillion lbs in 3 weeks and we hope maybe this time it will be us!

    August surgery buddies!

Thanks. I just started feeling like I turned the corner this week. I've also been stalled. A few days ago I called my younger cousin who had the sleeve 3 years ago and talked to her for a while. She let me vent and then told me that she felt like the weight loss was so slow and she was constantly worried she wasn't losing enough. Then one day she woke up and was 100 pounds down. She said not to stress and that the weight loss will happen. Everybody heals differently. I hope your stronger, more energetic self is right around the corner too!

    Recipes for Ninja creami

I’ve put just a can of peaches in the freezer and it made a fantastic sorbet! The creami is so versatile! Here is my recipe for protein shake ice cream: 1 chocolate fairlife shake 1 tbsp light cream cheese 1 tbsp sugar free chocolate pudding powder mix 2 tbsp pb fit 1/2 cup milk- any (I add a packet of sweet n low) I blend that then put it in the container and freeze. I spin on light ice cream, then I add about 2-3 tbsp of milk right on the top and hit respin, you can respin again if you want it very creamy. This recipe to me tastes like a frosty.

    August surgery buddies!

That's great. Congrats! I'm 30 days past surgery and still feel kind of weak. I get winded from walking and I fall asleep most afternoons after work. I am getting closer to my protein goals, although my weight has stalled now for almost two weeks. I'm not sure I'm glad I had this surgery.

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

Yup - I lost the first week … then scales didn’t move week two. Then they moved a tiny bit (I’m 3 weeks and two days post op now) and today my period decided to show up - so I’ve had a bit of a gain. I’m wildly stressed for my first in person follow up next week - because I’m worried I won’t have made enough progress - but I’m sticking to my plan and doing my best to stay on track. It is what it is. As long as I follow my plan I know my weight will come off. My labs are showing improvement over my pre op numbers and my clothes are definitely getting loose. So I’m trying to focus on the signs that I’m headed in the right direction and not fixate on just the scales. Hang it there - your body is still recovering from the surgery … as you move forward you will see the progress.

Is this it? Is my body done?

Great ! For the last 4 weeks I was stuck at 171-170. This week, the scale started moving again, I am 167. I know I must not complain but it is disappointing. I went to a GYM for the summer since it is too hot to walk outside here, but I cancelled it now that the mornings and late evenings are getting cooler, I am walking the same amount of time but instead of going to the GYM I am walking by the park at 6 AM in the morning before I start working, maybe the stall was going to break anyway, maybe it was the change on the walking hours but this week I have lost 3 pound so far.🤷‍♂️
  16. Stalls are so frustrating. I hope yours is short lived. We all get them and they always end. It just feels really unfair to be sticking to the programme and not lose anything! I agree with the others - stay off the scales for a week if you can and you should be through the worst of it by then (although I'm sorry to say some stalls last a few weeks). Were you losing well up to 4 days ago?
  17. Sunnyer

    Stalls??

Wow, two and a half weeks! That must have been so stressful. I'm on day 12 of my stall, so it's almost two weeks and it's just so incredibly demoralising.

Is this it? Is my body done?

Update: I started losing again. Down 3 pounds since this message. I should know by now, but stalls happen and do end.

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

Almost everyone hits their first stall AROUND the three week mark. Some before and some after. You will go through a few of these along the way so if the scale is getting to you try to weigh yourself less often.

    July 2022 peeps!

I'm voting for the Omeprazole as well. My surgeon actually prescribed it to me for 90 days after surgery, so I'm still taking it. Its because our little stomachs aren't just little, but at first they produce more acid that is needed for how much we eat/the size of our stomachs. I had chronic acid reflux for many years and a GI doctor had me take the equivalent of 2 Nexium, 2x a day and calcium since esomeprazole (Nexium) can hurt the absorption of calcium by our bones. I had a hernia repaired during my gastric sleeve surgery, too and they said that was what was probably causing my reflux all those years. Since surgery I haven't had any reflux and I've been taking my omeprazole daily. Omeprazole isn't as strong esomeprazole (Nexium). I'm a little scared of getting heartburn/reflux when I'm done with my 90 days of omeprazole, but my nurse said if I'm eating the foods and amounts I'm supposed to eat and still get heartburn more than once a week she'll put me back on omeprazole. The reason she doesn't just keep me on omeprazole is as our stomach heals, it does start producing the right amount of acid and the right amount of acid helps us digest more things (like getting back to "normal foods"). Anyway, so the nurse said to try to not take it after 90 days so our bodies can fully utilize the new acid, haha. Obviously, I'm not my surgeon or my nurse, I just wanted to agree with omeprazole as something to try, but not for too long ?!?!?!

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

Yep, I stalled at 2 weeks and now I am 4.5 weeks out and I hit another small stall...but I know it's because I've had some healthy carbs (potatoes and fruit). Try exercising if you can...just light walking and calisthenics. don't do running or anything strenuous.

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

So you hit your 3rd week stall a little early... i did too. ITs normal. and it will happen again and again. the 3rd week stall typically last only a couple weeks. The 3 month stall for me lasted almost the entire month. Dont worry yourself and dont weigh yourself everyday. You will drive yourself nuts. Just stick to the program. i weigh myself once a month.

    Missed period

I'm 12 days late at this point. But I'm nearly 4 months post op, so I'm a bit further out than you are. I've never had issues with PCOS, the only time I was ever late was when I was pregnant and I knew I was pregnant even before I took the test because I couldn't stop vomiting. In fact, I continued to do so for 34 weeks and 5 days...yeah. that was fun. My husband had a vasectomy (twice because the first didn't take). So we believe it's from my weight loss at this point. I took a test, it's negative and I've got an appointment with my GYN anyways.
  24. LilaNicole20

    Missed period

I was testing for 2 weeks and it was negative until it wasn’t. I actually had stopped looking at the tests after I peed on them. One night I felt super sick and had this weird experience with a hummingbird to where I felt like oh, crap. I think this is a baby. The next day I tested and sure enough, positive. When I went back through the bathroom garbage to find the test from the day or so before, that too was positive but I hadn’t waited the proper amount of time for the reading to be accurate. Please keep us updated! I’m invested in your outcome!
  25. I am just two weeks post-op and have weighed the exact same for 4 days. I am following my program, and feel extremely discouraged at this point. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm feeling like it was all for nothing.
