    My Last Supper

Hi Dana, Thanks for your update...WOW - 10 pounds in a week...That's amazing. So, you didn't have a 2 week Optifast diet before surgery? Your profile pic looks fantastic...And you need to lose weight? Has it been a hard adjustment? With all the chewing and eating slow? I worry about things like being able to swallow a Tylenol when I have a headache or being so thirsty and not able to drink water (really chug it down)... I guess it just takes time to get used to. I'm at my all time high of 230 and would like to see 135.

    Alaska Sleevers?

I live in eagle river and have surgery scheduled on February 10 2018. Would love to get together with you.
  4. Hello all! I was sleeved 12/10 and am down 17lbs since surgery. I'm looking to see if there is anyone that lives near me and would like to become occasional work out buddies or attend support groups together. I live in the East Bay of Oakland-San Francisco area.

    Doubts

Apart from the initial cost of surgery, fills are less than $10!
  6. I followed my pre-op diet from my doctor's office. 3 - 8 oz Protein shakes a day, 1 non-fat yogurt, 1/2 cup of fruit, 1 lean cuisine or similar and 1 cup of salad with 1 tbsp of lite dressing. Example: 8 am - Protein shake 10 am - yogurt 12 pm - protein shake 2 pm - 1/2 cup of fruit (if using canned fruit, make sure it is in lite syrup) 4 pm - protein shake 7 pm - lean cuisine and 1 cup of salad w/1 tbsp of lite dressing What is your doctor recommending? Or is he just saying lose weight?

    Pain

I was walking normally the day of, but it took about 10 days to be totally off pain meds. It was a sudden improvement.
  8. I attended my seminar 12/8/2008 and am being banded 6/19/2009 so exactly 6 months, 11 days! It flew by so fast with all the things you have to do prior. It might be faster for you if you are self pay!

    NSV! Got my height back!

I had a massive fight with the old biddy at Weight Watchers a few years back who measured me at 5 ft 9. I'm 5ft 10. that of course made me even more overweight. She remeasured me about five times but I kept getting 5ft 9. When I decided on lapband surgery, I also measured in at 5ft 9. I decided I must have shrunk but at a BMI of barely 36, I think that shrinkage saved me, made me eligible for the surgery! I happened to mention it to the nurse about two years later, and she remeasured me, sure enough 5ft 10 AND a half. She laughed and told me my bum was much smaller and now I could stand close to the wall.
  10. HERE'S MY CARD TO ALL OF YOU --- http://www.lapbandtalk.com/members/4...cture28446.jpg I'm almost in week 5 of my surgery. I've lost 19 pounds so far. I had my fill yesterday. They put 2cc's in. I'm so glad I did.

    Yay!

I'm now 9 days post-op. Gained about 10 pounds while in the hospital and didn't start getting it all out until the day I got home. I think in the first day and a half I lost all those pounds and more just from going to the bathroom. And Jeepchick42, I did a reality check what felt like every moment leading up to my surgery. I'd wake up at night and freak out because I couldn't believe I was having it done. Best wishes to both of you.

    surgery tomorrow

Yes you are pretty far for me but we can at least follow each other and see how each other is doing and help support each other I have Kaiser insurance where they require you to do an orientation which I have next week and then after that you have to sign up for A 12 week class and from what I understand you have to lose 10% of your weight during that class and halfway through you start going and getting all Preop stuff done that way when you're done with the class you can go see the surgeon right away and set up a date Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fajita Frittata

To keep things lively and low carb in the kitchen, I have been experimenting. eggs will always be a love of mine, and as I was scanning the interweb I found a Paleo Fajita Frittata recipe. It looked delicious. I would have definitely loved to try some fresh peppers and onions in this recipe but it wasn't what I had on hand so I modified it a bit for my budget and pantry. It turned out delicious! 1 bag of moe's seasoned fajita veggies (3 in a package at BJ's for less than 5 dollars) 16 oz of round eye steak (Flank steak would probably work even better) 2 tbs chili powder 1 tbs cumin 2 tsp cayenne pepper (I might have added more, I like things HOT!) 2 pinches of pepper 10 eggs 1 cup of finely shredded mexican blend cheese First, grease the pan with a no calorie olive oil spray and set the oven to 350 degrees. Cut the round eye steak into cubes. Add your spices, and stir until spices are well mixed. Don't cook the meat through. Add frozen vegetables. Cook until softened, and cook the meat until desired color. Add cooked meat and vegetables to a 9x9 circular casserole dish. Scramble eggs. Add to casserole dish. Place in the preheated oven. Let cook for 20 minutes. For the next 10 minutes place on broil. Remove dish. Sprinkle cheese. Place back in for two minutes or until cheese is melty. Serve and enjoy! P.S. This is SUPER easy to make and really yummy says the boyfriend. Also, it has ridiculous amounts of Protein. I set the servings to 8, but I couldn't even finish a whole slice. However, it still calculates pretty high even if you finish 80% of said slice. :smile1: Fajita Frittata.bmp

    Fat Lady Syndrome

I have this bad, I am still not tiny, but I am 95 lbs smaller then I was and my mind still struggles to adjust. Here are some of my FLS moments... My very thin cousin was sitting at a table that was really close to the wall, leaving not much room (she had room though lol), she got up and left and my mom told me to take a seat. In my head I was cursing her something fierce for drawing attention to it, because there was no way I would be able to physically squeeze in there. But what do you know, it was tight but I fit. I found a pair of jeans on clearance that I thought would fit me, they looked about my size, until I looked at the actual size and they were a 16 when I am a 8-10. There are sooo many times when walking through parking lots or getting out of cars that I think "I won't fit through there" and I have loads of room. I am just starting to adjust. Today walking on the sidewalk I saw someone jogging and though to myself that I needed to step off the sidewalk so the could fit by me, I realized it was FLS though and stood my ground, and they didn't even come close to me. Eventually my head will grasp the new me.

    What do I do???

Okay well this is my first time being on here, I posted on obesityhelp.com and found this site aslo. To begin I had lap band surgery on Feb 18, 2009 and started out at 274 on surgery day. I weighed myself and I only lost 16 pounds down to 258. A week after I had surgery I flew back overseas to go back to work the flight was fine. I have had good days eating and bad days. I didnt work out much in the Month of March or Arpril. In March I was still sore I guess because of the flight and my incisions hadnt healed all the way. In April I felt much better but I was doing to much working out because 10 to 15 minutes I felt real tired and winded so I toned it down. I finally got into a routine and got up to 20 to 25 minutes on the elliptical. At the end of April I took on a step aerobics class MWF which last about an hour and doing another 45 minutes later on in the night. I also work out on T-Th for 45 minutes the extra work out is on the elliptical. Even with all this working out I just wanted to know is it normal not to lose. I havent had a fill since my surgery and was thinking that was the reason but I dont know. Does anybody have any answers.

    Delivery and a band

I just had a child 5 months ago and 2 years ago with a band in and had no problems. They let the fluid out as soon as I found out so the baby would get as much nutrition as possible. The band caused very little problems through the whole pregnany and delivery. I waited 10 months after the surgery to get pregnant and still had no problems.

    Hello Everyone!!

As mscafe32 stated, I have also lurked on the boards for months, but this is my first post. I started this journey on almost a fluke - I had a friend that sent one of those "16 things people don't know about you) that circulates on facebook...one of her 16 things was regarding her lapband. Prior to that I had never heard of it. As I researched and researched and researched some more, it seemed the tool for me. Not until about 5 days ago did I start wondering otherwise...in hindsight, it was probably the surgery, missing work, etc. that had me nervous, not the procedure itself. With that said, I had my band put in on 7/21/09 - so i am 3 days in at this point. I have found the Clear liquids to be a bit boring, but tomorrow I get to go to full liquids for another 10-14 days. During the time I was researching, I found that most people found the "gas pains" to be the worst, I concur. It is tolerable, but occasionally flares up. I do find more relief with the gas pains by using children's Motrin than with the narcotic subscribed by the doctor. I am still very excited for the potential of this tool. I applaud anyone who is going through this.
  22. Pookeyism has pretty much said it all in her post. Everyone has a "why". Why did I do it? Why couldn't I do it on my own? I am not sleeved, yet. And that being said I have no long term advice I can give. But I can give you what my heart believes. The sleeve makes it possible. If it were possible to a healthy weight without the sleeve, then all of us who have been here would not be. Obesity is not a choice anyone wants. I truly believe the sleeve, as a tool, makes us stay true to what needs to be. Weight loss is just as much of a mental battle as it is a physical one. I feel the sleeve gives you a break on the physical fight, so that we can spend our energies on the mental one. The struggle is redefining our relationships with food. What it means in our lives. The sleeve covers the physical aspect of hunger and over indulging. We have to work on the "why" we are eating and "why" we are choosing what to eat. And as far as struggles with gaining back weight... I believe that, once a healthy weight is obtained, we are much more likely to want to keep it than let it slip. I think most people who write about struggling to keep the weight off long term mean in excess. Even naturally thin people struggle to keep off the pesky extra 10-15lbs. But people who fight obesity have never had to worry about such low amounts, it is all new. I honestly cannot imagine at this point what struggling to just lose 10lbs to be a healthy weight would be like! I think long term sleevers are describing that, not the amounts of weight we face pre op. I do not believe I will EVER be able to get as heavy as I am now once I have the sleeve. I have no intent of it. Because at the end of the day we do go through a LOT of pain, money and possible side effects to get where we need to be. It should serve as a reminder and a testament. I have surrendered myself to the fact I cannot do it alone. It is all about personal choice, and this is mine.

    was sleeved this afternoon!

Congratulations!!! You are doing WAY better than I did. I didn't want to move or talk or have anyone near me the night o my surgery! I was sleeved on 12/28 and was 250 lbs. I am about 10 days out and have lost 16 lbs. I hope we can keep in touch!
  24. I was between 30-50 pounds before people started noticing (those who didn't know that I was "dieting") and making random comments. I remember one time in particular going to the bank and a teller (who I don't remember seeing before) said, "wow, did you lose like, a lot of weight?" I just responded, "a little." For some reason I am a little embarrassed by these reactions and never know what to say. No one knows that I am banded other than my brother and husband. The strange thing is, you have to lose a lot of weight for people to notice in the beginning, but when you are closer to normal weight, 5-10 pounds is a dress size and very noticeable. I always got comments when I was close to goal. I have now been at a "normal" size long enough now that the comments have dissapeared except when I see people who have not seen me for a very long time.
  25. I was sleeved Monday and today is Friday morning. I'm down 10 lbs from surgery and 50 since the 4th of July! Also, when I went to slowly roll out of bed just now the sharp pain never came! Its only a bit tender. Today's gonna be a good day! Now I just need to work on this dehydrated/malnourished feeling. Yesterday I got 55oz of liquid and 30g of protein but I still feel slightly dehydrated.
