That's great! I'm going on vacation in May to an all inclusive resort which means alcohol and food everywhere (just like Vegas). It seems majority of people on this forum can now resist old temptations after surgery. I can't wait to experience that next month when I get my surgery. Height 5'0" Weight for consultation: 216 lbs. Pre-op Weight: Unknown until January 20th. My profile picture is not me. It's my "FitSpiration" body.
  2. Well folks, we made it:thumbup:. Who would have thought 3 months ago that we would have made it to where we are today? I hope everyone is doing great and is happy with their progress so far. I couldn’t be happier:biggrin:. I am on my second fill and am down over 60 pounds (BMI is now under 30). I’m not done, but I definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am fitting into clothes I haven’t worn in years, people are really noticing the weight loss, and unlike any diet in the past I feel satisfied (from a hunger perspective) most of the time. I feel like I am really starting to know how to interact with the band inside me. How are you doing?
  3. I was also banded in February and am down 70lbs! I have had two fills but they really have not helped yet. My third fill is this week and hopefully I will be able to rely on a little more help then just willpower! I went through my closet yesterday and realized I bypassed alot of clothes. I am thrilled that I have passed my half way point and can't wait to get down to my weight. I have not been this low since early 1994 and people are starting to notice. As for missing foods, yes I do miss some favorites but I don't really deisre to eat them anymore. My desire is to lose weight now Good luck to us all
  4. Start off slow. By slow I mean walking. Do alot of walking. I started off walking a few miles and had gotten up to walking 13 miles before I started throwing some running in. You want to try to stay as low impact as possible untill your able to get some weight off. Choose your protein carefully. I would say that with women choose a soy protein over a whey protein. It tends to produce umm breasts (men avoid). I personally stick with Isopure due to it having 0 Carbs and others that say low carb can have alot of hidden sugars. Start taking liquid Amino acids. This is a good source of protein and will help keep unwanted loose skin off. (you're both young and this should help with the elesticity of the skin, keeping you from having unwanted scars from surgery). Lastly get lots of protein in your diet. This will help with skin, hair, body, muscle etc... When you hear the doctors say get plenty of protein take it as gospel not just b/s. Whats the since in looseing a 100 lbs but going bald and having a bunch of loose skin? Do it right and don't exchange one problem for another.
  5. Hey guys, just wondering what your weight loss is after 6 months. I am 6 months out now and have lost 95 pounds so far, but the last few months it has been dragging. I still eat between 600 - 1100 calories a day. Most days I get 80g + of protein and keep my carbs under 30g. I exercise a few days a week and stay very active. I wear about a size 16 now (started at a 24). I would like to lose another 70 - 75 lbs, but would be happy with 50. I am going to change up my exercise routine tomorrow to see if that helps. I have been doing lots of walking and c25k. I'm going to start aerobics and weight training tomorrow and aim to do that 4 days a week. In my head I know I will lose more weight eventually, but I still get scared that this is it. How is everyone else doing?
  6. I hit goal at 6 1/2 months and am now at 8 months, so my weight has slowed quite a bit but still coming off. I have been losing about 6 lbs a month over the last 2 months.

There will be frequent stalls along the way, make sure you are following your surgeon's and/or dietician's guidelines and you should be fine, weight loss will catch up. If you need to refer back to your dietician for assistance.

  9. Hi Due to some complications I have had to have 3cc removed from my band. This is the first time since being banded that I have experienced any complications. I have to admit I am having a little trouble dealing with it. I am really being tested now on how much I have actually learned about eating correctly. I have little or no restriction for the first time in over a year. I have to admit I am petrified that I am not up to the task, and that I will start to gain weight. I will eventually be able to start having fills again, but it will be a slow process. I am within 15 to 20 lbs of my goal weight. Any advise from anyone who has gone through something similar would be greatly appreciated. How do I stay on the right track?

    5 Months Post Op

I only ask because at 5 weeks post op i thought i was starving and have been on a search for the "green zone" ever since. everyone will move along at their own pace. it took me years to put on this weight and it will take time to get it off. this is why i chose the lap-band. i didnt want the "fast" route of bypass or sleeve. i wanted to give my body a chance to work down and use the lap-band as a tool not a quick fix. it really is all about learning to eat all over again. food used to be my comfort friend and now food can hurt me if i don't do it right. i used to go eat at my mom's favorite restaurants after she passed so that i could feel good. now i go and look at what i used to eat and think to myself "omg how in the world did you eat all of that" i would say that you need a fill. i am 4 months out and lost 30lbs. i gained some in there when i had to have fluid removed, but now back on track. i have roughly 5-6 cc in the band, but everyone is different. so you might only need another 1cc and be great. i would just listen to your body and be sure to go to the office once a month for a check in. you don't have to get a fill every time you go. you just need to check in so you keep on track.

    5 Months Post Op

i am 6 months post op and since the surgery i have lost 35 lbs. I just went to both my dr and my nutrition yesterday and they both said that that much weight lose post op at this stage is very GOOD, so your doing great.i also got my third fill yeterday so i now have 7cc's in a 10 cc band. and let me tell you i am def eating less then i was .
  12. I would write to confirm that Dr. Osuna will be there. Also, I would recommend researching Dr. Ortiz in the event that Osuna is not present. I had no problems with Ortiz and liked him. That being said I would have preferred to be able to research him as well! This was something that could have influenced me to walk away but I felt peace about it so I went through with the surgery. Immediately after surgery while walking the halls, I did think to myself, Oh my, maybe I could have tried a little longer (to lose) before doing this... (It was the discomfort speaking!) Now as I watch the fat melt away, even with the complications, I'm so glad I did it! I can totally identify with the 200 mark you mentioned. I had lost and gained the same stupid fifteen pounds for the past 4 years! Now, I'm down 28- woohoo! Good luck to you! Amber
  13. This stage is not about losing weight-it's about recovering!! Any weight loss should be considered a bonus! Your body is healing and adjusting to the new way of eating. The lump in your throat sinply means you drank too fat or too much at once or ate without chewing or ate to much too fast...slow down and listen to your body's signal. When you feel that sensation coming on you need to slow down or stop. I know when I drink something fast I getthe feeling. Good luck to you!
  14. Hello all, I thought it was about time I made a post. I have been looking on the site for a few weeks now. My name is Chastity, and I live in Florida. I am 26 yr old, happily married to a very support husband. I started thinking about the band 1 ago, but changed my mind (thinking I could do it with just self control). Well I weight even more now. I had my first appointment with the surgeon today. I am starting opifast in the morning(Tuesday). My surgery is going to be November 18th. I am going to be self pay . I feel ready this time. I really enjoy reading about everyones journey, no matter where they are in it. I am 5'4 1/2 ( weird I know) and starting weight 286lbs(SHH). Hoping that the Optifast will taste ok:w00t:
  15. hi emily, 100x over I congratulate you. What a terrific accomplishment. I'm so happy for you in many ways that your life is taking a turn for the better. Emily you said "weight didn't cause any of the changes" I agree. But i always think as you are losing weight you are starting to feel better on the inside, which shows on the outside. I mean your self-confidence, esteem all that good stuff. Of course having a better appearance makes you feel better on the outside too. Once again congratulations on your new job, being able to go back to school, living in your favorite city. Things are looking up up and away. What better person could this happen to? Oh yes, congrats on your continued weight loss - sorry we'll being seeing "less of you" kathy

    Before and After (6/26/13)

    From the album: Shel Price

First picture was taken about a month before my surgery, I'd already lost a bit of weight. The second was taken 5 weeks post op.
  17. Got my first fill today! Didnt really hurt at all and i was scared! My dr said he was gonna put in 2 cc in my ten cc band! He said he was gonna pull the air out my band then fill it! Surgery Dreams

Gosh I am glad to hear that I am not the only person having dreams. Mine was a bit different though. I started my WL journey a month ago and I am frustrated at the lack of information from my surgeon's office. I dreamed they called and said I was not approved because my BMI is only 37, plus several co-morb's. In the dream I told them I was going to gain the 15 pounds or so necessary to make my BMI go up to 40 and I would be calling them back when I was heavier! I guess I won't rest until I hear yes or no. :cursing:
  19. My question to the ones that have had the surgery already is.... How often do you workout and is it easy for you to lose the weight quicker after having the surgery compared to doing it on your own? I've been watching youtube videos and no one mentions working out just eating better and then the ups and downs after the surgery. I know there will be ups and downs. I eat healthy now and I workout 5-6 times a week so I'm used to it for after the surgery.
  20. Any one's surgery weight was around 270ish, height 5'6ish with any success stories and/or amazing post op updates? I would love to hear some.. being that is my height & weight and want to feel great about my upcoming surgery.. (although all bodies are different) I would still love to hear about them!

    March 11th!(:

I am also afraid they will cut me open and my liver won't be shrink enough. My surgery is Tuesday March 12th. I haven't 25 lbs since first seeing the surgeon. I had a 3 week pre op diet, did great, then my surgeon got the flu and my surgery was moved out 2 more weeks and I haven't done so great. Part of it was feeling depressed due to being rescheduled. I have maintained the weight loss but I am still scared I might have re-enlarged my liver. What does everyone think? Some post say they didn't even have to do a pre op diet.
  22. It is not time to panic yet! Nine pounds is a pretty decent weight loss in just a couple of weeks.
  23. I got pregnant 6 months after surgery, i was on BC and also have PCOS, so it was a surprise ( albeit a good one, previous to surgery we had tried for 4 years with no luck)! I am currently 24 weeks along, but i keep losing weight. I was 195 when i got pregnant and i'm now about 178. I keep losing weight, about a lb a month. I've increased my eating and added an extra Protein shake into the mix for extra nutrition, but nothing seems to help. I am already forcing myself to eat more than what i'm comfortable with, but i'm still losing. My nutritionist doesn't think there is a problem, as i'm getting about 2,000 calories a day, but my doctor is starting to talk about putting me on high calorie shakes. Thus far baby is measuring just perfect and he's very active. I am just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and can offer any advice or ideas?
  24. So i'm officially 100 pounds down, but still have a ways to go. This is the most confident i've ever been in my life and i feel absolutely amazing. Recently, however, as i've been healing and able to eat more and test out new foods, i find myself absolutely overwhelmed and terrified of gaining even a single pound back. i stick to my diet and exercise everyday, but occasionally (and i mean rarely) slip up and eat something i shouldn't or skip a workout. Gaining weight now consumes my every thought. I may sound like a cry baby but i just don't know what to do! It is so overwhelming and sends me to panic mode. I know i'm not perfect, but i'm trying my very best to be. Any advice or words of encouragement?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Terrified of gaining

First of all - Congratulations on the weight loss - to all of you. I know how hard you've been working and what determination you have. I also know really really well the fear you are facing. I was in the same place 12 years ago. My surgery was 13 years ago this month. I lost 170 lbs and have managed to keep it off - Yeah! I was really afraid of re-gain those first couple of years - especially as my appetite came back. I've roller coastered a bit at times but have managed to stay within about a 15 lb range. Don't let the fear stress you out because that can act as a push into old eating habits. Here's a few things I did to help me stay stable. I changed my eating habits drastically in that first year while I could. I cut out all sugar, went low on the grains, stopped all fast food with the rare exception, and went organic. It was easy to do that in the beginning when I was v. motivated because I kept thinking long term. I set up good solid exercise routines - doing things I liked like biking, dancing, swimming and walking. I continued to do those things because I liked them. I didn't get on the treadmill or exercise bike because I didn't like them and knew I wouldn't keep it up. I also set up and have continued to do a simple weight training routine. I got help when I needed it - used the professionals in my program but also went outside for psychotherapy and life coaching. Lastly I worked hard at not freaking out when I did gain a pound or 2 or even 10! I'd just do an inventory of where I was getting slack - esp. with the rules of the pouch - and trusted myself to get back on track, even if it took me a few days or even a week. I didn't freak out, go into despair and start that downward spiral of beat myself up, eat more, beat myself up more, eat more, etc. This is all simply put here but I put in a lot of work and time and continued vigilance yet learning to let go and enjoy life up to this day. I know I'll never gain back that weight. Good luck to all of you. The fact that you are concerned and looking long term is a great sign that you'll make it!
