  1. I'm 6 months post op this week. Surgery day, I weighed 310 and this week I was 245 - so minus 65lbs in 6th months and it feels surreal! I'm also down 87lbs from my heighest weight last May (trying to push for an even 90 by the time my "Get serious about weight loss" anniversary rolls around). What an accomplishment in and of itself! But as many of y'all know, a lot of this goes beyond the scale, so I'm about to talk about labwork and measurements! Labwork/Blood Health I ran comprehensive pre-op, simple 3 month, and comprehensive 6 month labs. Here are those results! Pre-Op Vitamin D was a dismal 15. I've taken a daily 5,000 supplement since starting vitamins and I'm now close to 70. Normal Range. A1C went from 6.1% pre-op to 5.4% six months out. Normal Range. Pre-diabetes off the table. Fasting Glucose went from 121 pre-op to 103 at 3 months to 80. Normal Range Cholesterol (total) went from 265 to 226 to 221. From high to borderline, but vastly improved. LDL from 195 to 166 to 153. From high to borderline high. All other labs were normal range prior to and post op. Added blood health bonus: Taken off my Blood Pressure Medication completely. Measurements (in inches) Waist from 50 to 39.5 Right Thigh from 36.25 to 28.75 Left Thigh from 36.5 to 26.75 Hips from 69 to 52.5 Right Bicep from 18.5 to 14.5 Left Bicep from 18.25 to 14.25 Chest from 49.5 to 40 Neck from 15.25 to 13.5 Roughly a size 3x/4x, 22-26W to a about a 1x/2x, 14-16W Moving Forward I'm looking forward to what the future holds. I'm so happy with my progress so far! We often get hung up on the scale, but there is SO much more at play here. Be sure to track all your progress!

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

I'm not finished with weight loss yet, as I'm waiting for revision. So stay tuned... My photos aren't that great, especially my first pic. I forbade my photo to be taken so I literally have none of my fattest days and I still don't like taking photos. 😩 Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Did I Blow It?

Don't weigh yourself right now. Just follow the process and the weight will drop off. Just because you CAN eat something doesn't mean you SHOULD. Watch your portion sizes.

    Hello

There is a TON of information out here on the forums and threads. Everything from diets, exercise, pre-op, post-op and specific weight loss surgeries. Nice to have you here. Take some time and check things out.
  5. Just had a thought...before I didn't really care about this but now that I'm 3 months post OP today I kind of love that my surgery was on Valentine's Day. It kind of gives new meaning to that day for me. I was never a big fan of Valentine's day. I have a messy, less than perfect track record when it comes to dating so in all honesty, Valentine's day brought me a little bit of pain and anguish for all the bad romantic experiences I've had thus far in my life. But now, it's no longer about what went wrong for me, it's finally about what went right – and self-love. This was something I was desperately reaching toward for so long and I don't even know how I did it, it goes by so fast, I rose above the bullshit in my life and put myself first for once. I'm looking forward to Valentine's day next year, my surgeversary... not about what I lack or love or whatever but what I gained that day and how far it took me.

    Pouch/Jejunum stretched - Barium Swallow

I'm sorry to read about your LPR diagnosis. It's a serious issue for sure. I'm not really sure how to reply to you about this, because I looked back at your previous posts and see that you had VSG and lost weight, then regained and then revised to RNY and then made a thread about how much fast food you could still eat and subsequent weight regain with RNY due to fast food choices. So obviously there was an issue two years ago (and probably prior to that) when you were still eating copious amounts of KFC etc... so I'm wondering if you reached out to your bariatric team when you realized how much you could eat. If not, why not? Perhaps they would've directed you to a therapist then. Please consider therapy. There's quite a bit of wls patients on this site that have sought therapy and are now thriving and overcame their food issues. Therapy is yet another tool just like weight loss surgery is that some patients need to be successful. Best wishes.

    Did I Blow It?

seven lbs in two weeks is about average. I lost 16 lbs the entire first month, and I started at over 300 lbs. unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", you're not going to drop 40 or 50 lbs the first month. Just based on hanging out on these boards for the last seven years, I'd say the average weight loss range for most of us "normal" WLS patients that first month is around 15-25 lbs. Yes - you'll find a few people who fall above or below that range, but I'd say a majority of us are somewhere in it. So at 7 lbs in two weeks, you're pretty normal... also, I don't know if you weighed yourself that first week, but a lot of leave the hospital a few lbs heavier than we did entering the hospital. It's because they pump you full of IV fluids while you're there. It can take a few days for it to work its way out of your system.

    Sleeve with high BMI

For myself I chose to do the sleeve over bypass. Mainly because I have 3 co workers who have had bypass, 2 males and 1 female. The 2 males are gaining their weight back they lost. They eat and drink pretty much what they want and are overeating again, They both went from a 4XL to XL and Im pretty sure they are both back in to a 2XL now 2 yrs post bypass. The one female coworker has had horrible hair loss (I guess I should say thinning hair) she is early 30s and has had back to back babies after her bypass. I do not believe she is back to her pre bypass weight but shes probably put 50-60 lbs back on. She just had a 3rd baby not long ago and has already scheduled to have her bypass redone or relooked at (honestly Im not sure what they do when you put alot of your weight back on) any way she has something scheduled for Nov 2022. I have another co worker who had a sleeve. She has done exceptionally well, she's lost 95-105 lbs since March of last year. Im not sure she is at her goal weight but she may be. The only thing she complained about was being hydrated enough. I guess she just couldnt get her fluids in and she battled being dehydrated alot. I know both surgery's are tools and if you dont stick to it then the above scenario's can happen. I felt the sleeve could be the best option for me. I am satisfied with my decision and am currently pending surgery in about 3 weeks. I am alittle uneasy, nervous and maybe even alittle scared but I know thats my food addict self trying to talk me out of this decision. Im holding firm and I believe I can get through it God willing, with little to no complications or problems. In the long run I know this is the best for my health. I have kids I need to be here for....so I have to succeed!

Ankle or wrist weights (at your weigh in) may help you get over the line for BMI for insurance purposes On a more serious note, maybe have a chat with your insurance company and check what the BMI threshold is for them for someone without co-morbidities.

    11lb down pre op

Brilliant start! It's so motivating when you see the weight come off, isn't it? Hope your surgery goes smoothly liveaboard.

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Slow loser here too. But the weight does continue to come off. My surgery was on 01/11, and so far, I've lost 34 lbs. Back when I was 50, I lost 50 pounds, but it took me 2 YEARS for that! LOL at my age, I don't have the time left! My doctor wanted me to walk more, and I just giggled--it's all I can do to work 40 hours a week at a desk job, much less exercise. If you are young, you have no idea. I think he wanted me to because the weight loss is so slow. Well, the fact that the scale continues to move down is GREAT for me. I'm not hungry-I still have nausea, but I think I have found the way out of that. So not hungry--none of that "oh God, I can't think of anything else but the cookies in the break room" stuff. 34 lbs in 3 months is wonderful for me!
  15. My current weight is 266. My goal is honestly 200. Ok thanks so much
  16. Thanks. Its what I am hearing. Trying not to be obsessed with the scale but dying to get this weight off!

    Bypass but with keto

Exactly. Given the protein goals post wls, to achieve the correct ratio of fat required to be Keto-proper is challenging to do while staying under a certain calorie number AND with reduced stomach size. Handy calculator here for info purposes: https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ I think alot of folks are likely doing something more along the lines of Atkins or Modified Atkins. I did ultra-low carb, with min protein and max calories goals during weight loss phase, and let the fat fall where it may. After goal, it took about 6 mnths to break this habit, and now at 3.5 years out, i basically eat whatever i feel like so long as i stay at or below 1800-2000 cals a day most days (i’m 5’2”). Its worth noting, however, that “whatever i feel like” looks alot different than what it did pre-wls. To the OP: do what works for you until it doesn’t, then do something else. Good Luck! ❤️

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Hi HE_TheBrave, I'm experiencing the same slow loss as you. It's sooo disheartening and does make me wonder why I had surgery. The lack of weightloss is really getting me down, I'm not even managing 400 cals at mo because I feel so ill everytime I eat. What an expensive way to not lose weight!!! Hopefully we can motivate each other [emoji3059] Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. It's pretty common to have slower weight loss with revisions than with virgin surgeries.
  20. What are your current weight and goal weights? it helps if you fill out your sidebar which you can do under your profile section and click on surgery.
  21. First surgery Vertical banded gastroplasty, permanent band. 220 pound weight loss but had much difficulty with nausea vomiting and stricture. Yes sticking to diet now.. just very nervous. Doctor says its because I dont have as much to lose.
  22. Your first surgery was a band? then you revised it to what in 2017? and you just had bypass a few weeks ago? Are you sticking to the program? Following the diets and such? But you are just out of surgery and healing. Some people are slower than others and some loose a ton of weight quick. But as long as you stick to it and follow your programs diets and recommendation you will loose the weight.
  23. I am having a very slow weight loss. I had my first surgery 3/2000 and VBG revised in 2017. I gained 80 pounds and had a gastric bypass on 3/23/2022. Wondering if anyone else had these issues?
  24. I start my options classes next month and was wondering about a good surgeon, I live in Bakersfield but would like to get my surgery done in West LA, I'm just a little concern about my regular doctor's comments about if I don't lose the weight I don't get the surgery and I'm just above qualifying BMI with sleep apnea. So I have questions about which doctor isn't as strict about losing the weight before the visiting the surgeon. I'm also doing all the classes online, how does that work about weighing me? Thank you :)
  25. Congrats on reaching this stage! I found that isopure was pretty good when blended using a blender, a milk you like/tolerate, maybe some yogurt, ice and things like unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar free syrups or decaf espressos. You can make protein frappes so to speak by mixing up ingredients. In my liquid, puree and soft I did vanilla and caramel protein frappes using sugar free coffee syrups and decaf espresso. You can also mix isopure into things like yogurt and soup. Great way to get protein, 25 grams per serving and no taste. I found that post op premier and quest protein shakes were wayyyy to sweet. If I didn't blend my own shakes, I bought the chocolate ensure max because it has 30 grams and sorta kinda taste like chocolate milk. You can also blend that with ice and it makes it like a milkshake. The slim fast orange cream Low carb shake blended with ice is really yummy. Taste like fruity pebble milkshake. If you're sick of the sweet stuff, try broth make from bouillon cubes (more tasty than broth cartons). I've never had bone broth. I hear it's an acquired taste but supposedly some benefits to having it, maybe try mixing it into your regular broth for a full meaty flavor to differentiate from the sweet shakes. Anyway. That and sugar free popsicles got my through my liquid diet. It was nice to chew on something and I never want to see another popsicle again in my life LOL. I find that orange flavored popsicles caused some acid reflux but I had that pre op so it might be just me. Best of luck to you. The hardest part is getting through the first month after surgery but it goes by fast, you develop a routine and you see the scale go down so it's all worth it. I'm 3 months post op and back to regular eating. The only difference is I focus on protein, get full pretty fast and the weight actually comes off.
