  1. I thought I wanted to go down a little more, but frankly, I'm tired of buying new clothes! Well, I'm not tired as much as my credit cards are.... That's after I tried on a couple things I just bought like 5 weeks ago and they were almost too big! I know, I know. First world problems.

    Weight gain

Yup, like @@onthefencejenny said, just normal adjustments the body is going through. You will probably experience a stall here soon, too. Your body is just going a little wacky is all. You are going to flucuate all the time during this journey. If the flucuations are going to drive you crazy, put the scale away so you don't have to see them Here's a good article about why it happens: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php

    Lost 6 Pounds!!

Congrats !! I lost 14 lbs on my 2 week pre op.

How many days until solids, according to your Dr?

My instructions were two weeks liquids, one week mushies. So, I'm supposed to be on mushies now, but I'm sucking at it... Sad, cuz I did so well on the pre-op diet!! Needless to say, I haven't lost much weight since surgery.

    What to eat at 8wks!?

Yup, 6 weeks I was cleared for everything other than raw veggies, at 8 weeks all food (that I could tolerate) was fair game. Our Nutritionist pushes whole foods over processed. She's a vegan but doesn't require or enforce restrictions on meats, our only "rule" was to ensure that no added sugars are present, if so then the total sugar count per serving needs to be less than 5g, fat needs to also be less than 5g per serving.

    What to eat at 8wks!?

At 8 weeks, I was cleared for all foods. cottage cheese can be mixed with pretty much anything that would work with cheese. So like, taco meat for instance. https://nutritionstarringyou.com/40-cottage-cheese-recipes-you-wont-believe/
  7. Well, yes, it is true. June 20th was the day. I did well with the surgery - but not so well with the anethetics (sp) . I had the dry heave  for over 48 hours. Meds just didn't help. I couldn't keep myself awake for more than 5 minutes at a time and finally started sleeping through all the nurses. The gas pains went straight to my back immediately. I had temp issues, too. I almost had to stay in an extra night BUT I managed (how I do not know) to sneek in some of my Water and finally was sent home after 5 pm. Each day gets better - I am trying not to sleep at all during the day - but damn, when the heating pad is warming up on my belly and nothing is on the tv - it is very hard not shutting them eyes for a few winks. All the bandaids have come off leaving the steri stips and looking pretty good - My belly is still puffy and I do have some pains lower back and in my neck. I have LOTS of hiccups and burps. (attractive). I also have not been on any meds since the day of my surgery. Dr. said my insides were the best that he has seen in a long time and that I had a cute little liver (now how many times have you heard that in your life. Not hungry at this point - trying to keep the water in - and adding things as the days go on - atleast I can stand being around other food smells - Even though you can't see it in my signature, I am down close to 20#'s as of this morning:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: . Go for my 1 week post-op on Tues. Thank you all for your helpful information prior to my banding - this site is just full of all the info you could need to make you understand what's going to and is happening during this experience. Talk to you all soon Tracy
  8. When I decided to stop losing, I was still food journaling everything on MFP so I calculated my BMR using the tools form that site and added a few hundred calories until I stopped losing. Did that for about another 6 months and finally (and purposefully) let go of the journaling in favor of a more natural lifestyle. For me, the habits are are there... exercise 5x per week, small, high protein meals, etc. I eat what I'll call "righteously" 85%-90% of the time, stay active and have maintained within 5 pounds for the last year and 1/2. If I creep up, I adjust out some of the junk, (alcohol and treats) until I'm back in the zone. Typically takes less than a week.

    Hope everyone is okay -

I have my fingers crossed for you! I can understand the need to get away from the boards. I am glad to see you back though! Keep us posted on how things go with your fill. I have one on Thursday that can't come soon enough. This will be my 7th fill. I feel them for about 2 weeks then back to bandster hell. I completely understand how you feel. Just remember, you are not alone.

    1st week weight loss

I'm down 10 lbs almost 2 weeks, was probably about where you are at one week. Each body is different, I'm having trouble keeping up with walking right now due to heat. But at work I make sure I get up and do a few walks around the office. Hopefully the next few weeks I'll add some more mileage under my belt like the first few days.

    Banded 4/23

Wow...well here I am banded for a week and 2 days. I am back at work today for the first time and OMG my port is killing me. I have gotten up and walked every 15 minutes becauase that is all that helps. I have a desk jpb so it is not that bad, but I feel like I am always walking around. My manager is ok with it and she knows I get my work done, but it scares me as to what others will think. I am not hungry, but also terrified to put anything thicker than cream soup in my mouth. I am down 10 lbs from my surgury date and I love it!!! One week 10 lbs I'll take it! hope everyone is doing well!

    Lack of sleep

I had that issue, too. My NP said it's common. I started getting more sleep about three months out. Ask if you can take melatonin, that works for some people...

    5/11/09 Proms and Moms

Lovely pics, even with no faces, and is that you in the older photo? Looks like you could be the blonde. I will have to get to the movies soon to see Star Trek, my oldest just picked up a second job at our local theater, so free movies for us (I hope)! I'm glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day, enjoy your week and have a good visit with the dr. tomorrow. kathi

    5/11/09 Proms and Moms

I had a great busy weekend. DS1’s Prom was on Saturday. It’s a mixed blessing to see your kids growing into adults…you’re so proud of them, and yet you’re sad that you’ve lost that small child that was so dependent on you. I missed not helping to pick out the outfit like the ‘great prom dress hunt’ DD and I enjoyed 4 years ago. It’s different with boys…he took his date to the tux shop and she helped him select something complimentary to her dress. For his first dance I’d gone with him to pick out the flowers, but this year he went with a group of his friends to the florist, and he did a great job (and he bought me a beautiful flower arrangement for Mother’s Day). It’s hard sometimes watching them become independent adults. We had fun watching him getting ready (I did get to help with a little hair gel-40-50 mph winds) and then meeting at a friend’s home with about a dozen couples going for pictures. We took pics for about an hour and then off they went to dinner and then the ‘Grand March’ (televised march of each couple being introduced under an arch, indoors because of the wind) before boarding the buses for prom. He had a blast! *Pic attached minus faces, since I don't have their permission. Mother’s Day was wonderful! We cleaned out our small pond/waterfall I built out back…my least favorite job of the year (involves netting the 2 dozen goldfish, emptying the pond and waterfall, cleaning all the muck, repotting all the stinky pond plants, and then putting it all back…a huge job), so it was great to have help. We actually started this Sat. and didn’t finish until Sunday. The kids pitched in Sunday on planting all the flats of annuals I’d bought too…another big job. It was the best Mother’s Day gift of all to have them all happily helping with something I usually have to do on my own. We finished early afternoon and then the kids took me to a movie matinee, Star Trek (BTW it was a great movie, we all loved it). I did splurge with some refried beans/salsa DD made me for dinner (mushies-a day ½ earlier than I should have). I can tell you that although my band is wide open I either ate them too fast or too much because I definitely got that ‘hurt’ feeling in my chest that I had right after surgery. It was a good reminder to take things slowly and measure everything. I go to the doc tomorrow morning for my post-op visit and to get cleared for mushies for the next 3 weeks. It was the perfect weekend!
  16. I've have my first appointment with the bariatric surgeon next week, but am becoming worried that my insurance, United Healthcare, may not cover the operation. I was told by them on the phone that hyptertension counted as a comorbidity. However, after reading the lengthy policy statement, it seems to indicate that insurance is only covered if your high blood pressure is not well controlled by medication. Also, I'm at the low end of the BMI requirements. If I diet for six months, as required for the insurance, I risk falling below the required 35 BMI. This all seems counterintuitive. Has anyone had experience with these situations?
  17. Just got my surgery date, 10/16. Going to start today cleaning out my fridge and cupboards of junk food. Can't wait. Am feeling nervous. How are you feeling today after 2 weeks from surgery?

    Gas pains

It will get better! It will get better! It will get better. The first week everything is slow going. Just try to stay hydrated, don't worry about anything else. Week two things will start going a little faster. It won't take half an hour to take the two tablespoons of Tylenol liquid. I burp constantly when trying to eat even two months out. I did Especially in the beginning though. It is a sign you are trying to fit too much in. I like the gas x pills better than the strips. I also had a lot of acid. Maalox helped a LOT! It will get better. Just make sure you stay hydrated. Super cold stuff went down better for me than warm stuff. You just have to test stuff out and be prepared to vomit, don't push yourself or your pouch. It'll tell you when you're full. Listen to it!! Pain and vomiting follows if you don't listen. It will get better!

    6 weeks Post Op

I woke up today feeling great and for the first time no reminders of my surgery. It is important to take the time to recuperate this isn't a race to the finish line. This is the start of a new way of life.

    Hope everyone is okay -

Hi girls, Well I had to go back for an un-fill (a third time) but this time we figured it out. The last time I went in for an un-fill I was down to 6.2 cc's and I was getting hungry. So the PA took me back up to 7 cc's and I was doing great this time around until last Friday, suddenly I was tight and couldn't keep anything down, throwing up etc. well I was throwing up yellow and clear slimy stuff. As is turns out it was acid reflux-severe. So I started Prilosec. I went in yesterday and he took a little out. I'm now at 6.6 cc's (not 7 anymore but not as low as 6.2 either) and he said Prilosec in AM and PM for a week and then every night there after. OMG is was so horrible. From Thursday to Monday I lost 13 pounds. I am able to eat and drink again and I'll put some of that back on but it's okay. I am getting restriction at meal times but hungry every 3 to 3.5 hours, but you know what? I'm just gonna have a small snack. I need to live my life and I have been to full too many times to worry about it so much.

I’d guess you’ll likely need a my least a month off. I work a desk job and was out for two weeks. However, I wasn’t allowed to life anything over 15lbs for like a month to 6 weeks. It will also depend on your age/overall health. Best thing would be to ask your team when they think you’ll be cleared for regular duty!

    Sparkpeople.com

Hi, I started my liquid diet last week and needed a good place to keep track of what I was eating. I found Sparkpeople.com and was impressed with everything that was on the site--especially the fact that it is FREE. I like it better than Fitday.com and the Weight Watchers Online site. Anybody else like this site?
