  2. Hi, Try talking with your surgeon about Biotin injections. I am getting prepared for the sleeve revision surgery and I am concerned about hair loss, but the office offers couple different types of Vitamin injections you can due weekly or monthly etc depending on what the doc recommends;) Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  3. I was banded 4 years ago and I am having a revision surgery to the sleeve same here yo yoed, but I have had nothing but complications with it I was never able to find my sweet spot it was either to tight or loose. I also vomit alot because many of the food that I eat get stuck also the I have a hernia and my band has slipped;( looking forward to getting the sleeve. Also, just because o had problems doesn't mean you will;) Just do as much research as possible!! I bought small cups, plated, forks and spoons etc made sure to stock up on Protein products such as drinks and powders a food processor or Ninja is good to have around as well also a food scale and measuring cups I always made it habit to carry a bottle of Water everywhere I went..... Good luck! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

I HAVE NO FRIENDS! (Sad face!)

Rosey posey Not sleeping with them is true but....he wanted to follow my journey ( well not just mine but all of his pts) for 5 years, so he can use it as DATA. So he looks like he is so successful. When I had problems with strictures he was done with me then my hubby had a failed revision from his Lap-Band to an RNY he became severely ill and the A** HAT totally dropped him in his worse time of need. He called us PROBLEM CHILDREN!!! I feel like our journies messed with his PERFECT DATA!!! I actually kind of fired him!! I went to a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE in Portland a little further than COOS BAY but oh so worth it!! So basically we are kind of connected to them for our follow up. I was told that it is hard to get someone to clean up another Dr's mistakes but THANK GOODNESS we found someone who cares and is there for us if needed. The further out we get the less we need our Surgeon. I have my PCP order my blood work and then have it faxed to PORTLAND. It works for me!! LOL
  6. Where does he do his Surgeries at? Altho it is best to find a Surgeon with The BARIATRIC CENTER OF EXCELLENCE, it doesn't always mean they are the best!! My hubby and I had the same surgeon, he did my RNY first and then tried to do a revision for my hubby which failed terribly. He ended up with abscesses and was sick for 9 months and 3 of them he doesn't remember. He was a great surgeon, but not so good with the follow-up. He kind of dropped my hubby in the middle of his illness and because I had problems with strictures he repeatedly referred to us both as "PROBLEM CHILDREN". If the Dr isn't doing the surgery at STARMED HOSPITAL in JUAREZ, Mexico he might be alright. Now the surgeon that did my hubby's Sleeve Surgery in JUAREZ MEXICO was an excellent surgeon. The Hospital NOT SO MUCH!!! They are nothing like the US hospitals. I wouldn't go thru BeLiteWeight either. The coordinator talked to us about other cases and couldn't keep things straight. Kind of scary. But now I will shut up because I don't know anything about your surgeon. i have heard that they do really great in Tijuana, MEXICO.
  7. Ur not a failure. Do not be ashamed. I'm in the same boat as u and even though I can give u advice I feel exactly the same. It's hard to rise above the mental stuff. I'm in the process of looking at a revision of my revision as I've had advice that it was not done correctly. I had this surgery as a tool to combat my eating addiction and even though I exercise regularly and eat accordingly it ist won't budge. Maybe it's time u went back to ur wls and get it checked out too. Good luck. Big hugs from me to u.

    Need Some Feedback/Advice

Sorry wish I could help you just had revision on 9/27, but had band removed at same time. I had horrible success with the band mine slipped quite a few times so all Fluid would have to come out and would have to wait at least 3 months before starting the fills again. Good luck Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Need Some Feedback/Advice

If you eat properly, you won't gain after the band is remove. Remind yourself that you're an adult who can make the choice. Your panic is just another obstacle you're erecting. Apart from that, a lapband does not cause anyone to gain weight. It's the individual's choices and the ways in which the individual deals with difficult times and events in life that add on pounds. The same holds for VGS (not VSG) surgery. From your own account, your periods of regain were your own doing, not the fault of the band. The vomiting may be a sign that the band just isn't right for you, but it may be the result of simply being too tight. Even with a too-tight band it is possible to gain weight, depending on what one chooses to eat. I'm unqualified to make any recommendation about attempting to adjust the band and work better with it or having it removed or revising to VGS, but I will suggest that, before you undergo VGS, you be sure of what you want and how much you're willing and eager to make the changes necessary to succeed for the long term. Weight-loss surgery, like any elective surgery, requires serious consideration. There is no magic. Anyone can gain weight despite surgery if he makes poor, careless and unmindful choices. Think clearly and write down your goals and what you're willing to do and want to do. Also consider that there is help if you're stuck. One good possibility is a therapist in the area of CBT and experience with eating issues.
  10. Here's my story...I was banded in 2008 and lost (from pre-op to lowest weight) around 75lbs. Almost immediately upon hitting my lowest weight (165ish, about 10 months out), I started to regain. It was a stressful time -- I moved across the country for a new job, one of my pets died, my husband was out of work for almost a year and I couldn't find a surgeon locally who would do fills for me. I gained back all of the weight plus 10+ more lbs within a year. i found a doctor who would do fills for me and lost 30. then i gained that back. i went vegan and lost 40lbs. gained that back plus 20. all this time, i was throwing up several times a day with the band. cut to a few months ago -- i go in to see about a revision to a VSG. my doctor is hugely supportive, on paper it looks like my insurance will cover it, etc. we do some x-rays and an EDG to make sure the band hasn't slipped or eroded -- it's fine. i still vomit a few times a day and belch a lot so I decide to go ahead and do the revision. now i'm a month out from the first procedure to take out the band and am panicking. what if i gain even more weight when it's out? (i've lost 12lbs since going to see this new doctor.) what if the VSG doesn't work and I don't lose weight or worse -- gain weight back. i'm really going down the rabbit hole -- does anyone have any band failures to VSG success stories they can share? any tips for maintaining (and losing) weight after the band is removed?

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

@ How do you know when you need revision surgery? Did you ask to have it? Did they tell you that you needed it? Just wondering because I am sort of thinking about it but I don't know what makes you qualify for it, why for sure you need it, and who brings up the topic first. Thanks!

    18 year old lapband concerns

I just recently had a revision to sleeve, but all my band scars are gone. I had the band back in 09 and they faded fast... And you're much younger so I don't think you have to worry about that at all. As far as drinking, I know some who enjoy a glass of wine from time to time. Although I don't drink, my band surgeon did not forbid it. It's best if you can ask your surgeon what he/she recommends regarding the drinking and the reflux. Some are strict, others are not. 18 year old lapband concerns

If you have gastric reflux do not get a lap band! It will get 10 times worse. I just had mine removed and revised to a bypass. Can't tell you how relieved I am to have it out. I developed horrible reflux with the band...now, blissfully gone. I wish I never had the band.
  14. I'm listening. This is great. btw, I loved lapbandtalk back in the day, and joined shortly after I got my lapband in 2009. I'm glad Alex made bariatricpal since we're all in the same boat together. ^^ I just recently got a revision. I agree that Alex is so accomplished.
  15. There is a good article on the Obesity Help site today http://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/expect-revision-rny-ds
  16. ok i thought i was the only one. why is it that healthy foods are hard to get down! UGH!! i have had my band since 2011..it has slipped at least 3 times... currently it is empty and i'm going through the insurance process to get revised to the sleeve! i cant wait to start my new journey!
  17. Hi Bigjohn58. Here we have both surgeries done. I had my RNY on July2, 2013. I lost 132#'s in 6 months. I did have an 8# gain so now I weigh 125#'s. I have maintained my weight loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I did have some problems with Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I needed 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. But if you ask me if I would do it again I would have to say with everything in me IN A HEARTBEAT. Personally, I wouldn't go into a weight loss surgery thinking I could get a revision later. It is really hard to get your insurance to pay for it sometimes. Plus how many peeps want to go thru surgery 2 times. Now, my hubby, had his Sleeve done June 2, 2015, we went to Mexico and paid cash. Due to the fact that he is diabetic and the OREGON HEALTH AND SCIENCE UNIVERSITY wanted him to lose 25#'s and get his A1C to a 8. Well if you know anything about diabetes....when he lost weight his blood sugars were up and when his blood sugars were down his weight was up. That is one reason we went to Mexico. Now I need to fill in the process of the last 16 years!! His first WKLS was the Lap Band he had it for 13 years, they had messed up his port trying to do a fill so back into surgery he went. Now fast forward to 2013 it malfunctioned so he was scheduled for a revision to an RNY. Well, when they got in there the band had eroded into his liver. They couldn't finish the surgery due to bleeding and the scar tissue so they backed out and told him that in 3 months they would do the RNY. He got abscesses and was so deathly sick for 9 months 3 of those he doesn't even remember!! It was so traumatic. But he needed to have WLS because he has Cancer on his Kidney and he weighs too much for them to do anything. ( BTW he did lose 100#'s with his band) He is a large man and weighed in at 420#'s when we went to Mexico!! Ok, now his weight loss has been so very slow with his Sleeve!! He has lost 60#s since June. Better than nothing I guess. In Mexico we still had hopes of him getting the RNY but due to scar tissue being solid on his right side he had to have the Sleeve. I'm not trying to push either surgery on you but...if you had the choice of doing one surgery and losing the weight you need to. Instead of going into something with the hopes of having another surgery if needed. I understand that you really don't want to have your tummy rerouted but....just do lots of research and if you need to get the second opinion then, by all means, do this!! All surgeries are just a tool the real work comes from YOU!! It is to help us reach the goals we have never been able to. BTW I'm 60 so I was 57 when I had my RNY. My hubby is 66 years old. Plus, remember any of the weight loss surgeries do not FIX our brain!! It is still there to tempt us every single day, but there is nothing that says you can't overcome them!! There are unlimited resources online so go into them and check out which surgery is the best for you because only you and your DR can make that decision. Good Luck Sorry for the book. lol

    Able to eat almost anything

I had the bypass in 2003. I did not follow directions , lost only half the weight I needed to. Gained every lb back. Got disgusted and did not do anything about it until this year. They scoped me and then told me that my pouch was relatively normal but my anastomoses was dilated greater that 10 cm. That's bigger than a new born baby's head. I was able to eat everything and anything. Not large portions because of the pouch , but I became a bottomless pit. I had a revision done 3 months ago. I've lost 50 lbs and am now in a plateau. But I can shake it off. I am very careful to pay attention to how I feel when eating. I try very hard not to eat things that aren't going to injure my pouch, soft food. I know it's never too late to make fresh starts and no giving up this time. Take care of yourself as if you were your own child. Follow instructions to the best of your ability. Your body underwent great trauma to make yourself healthy. Don't damage your operation results , talk to your doctor and tell him/her what's been going on and seek instructions to help undo any damage you may have done. You have gone through a lot, way too much to get nothing for your efforts. Good luck to you and remember that You Can Not eat anything and everything. Good luck to you and also to me. 19. Has anybody had a bypass and had then transferred to a DS switch One I have not been able to find much on it, and just wanted to know if it is a better option for revision as I have read gain some weight from the bypass after a few years, and it hit up with this and would like to know is the DS switch will help as a better revision, then just a normal bypass revision . Urgent response please

iBand convert to a Gastric Sleeve?

It's a good thing that I moved ahead with the revision. It turned out that my band had slipped and I had some stomach prolapse. Also, I needed an additional hiatal hernia repair. Keep in touch and I'll let you know how recovery goes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Day 1 right after surgery for about a 2-4 hr window:, Severe nausea, pain... Like being hit by a truck. I was released the same afternoon, and once I got home & got my prescription meds, I felt much better. Not sure but I think they didn't give me too much pain/nausea meds in my IV because I had my revision as an outpatient (Surgery at 7 or 8 am, out by 4 pm). Other than that, it's been a really easy recovery. The most annoying thing: Itchy incisions and trying not to scratch the wounds open.
