For those having a bypass revision weighing in at 155?
Bryn910 replied to marfar7's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
It really depends on what the insurance companies cover. Like Frust8 stated, some insurance companies have a 1 bariatric surgery per lifetime coverage. If the insurance company gives the patient/doctor a problem about coverage, more documentation and/or test work is needed. But your surgeon will let you know. I feel as if revisions are becoming more common and less people are having to fight for them -
@Frustr8 "Doesn't everyone with a RuN bypass inherently have a Petersen" defect, from when they had to puncture the mesentary to realign the small intestinal segments?" I think the point is that incision in the mesentery, which they are aware needs to be closed in surgery, creates a weakness and potential for the hernia. I'm told most of my bowel had migrated through a huge hole in mine and that this was unusual. The Petersen's hernias themselves used to be more common and often followed peptic ulcer surgery (not often needed now because of modern heliobacterial treatments.) They are becoming more common now as a side effect of bariatric surgery. I hunk my impulse for posting was because, certainly in the UK, the dangers of these aren't common knowledge in the general medical community - so we need to educate ourselves and be aware and wary. I'm now four days post op and worrying because one incision still really hurts and I keep getting loads of stomach wind. Wake up flat tummy and evolve into a misshapen zeppelin. I think I swallow air though. 🤣🤣

My surgical team (Dr and dietician) have told me to stay clear of nutra sweet. I asked why and they said that new studies are showing that our bodies react to it the same way that they react to sugar. Is anyone else being told the same thing? Lots of the bariatric recipes I have seen on line add sugar free jello or sugar free pudding. Unfortunately they have nutra sweet.

For those having a bypass revision weighing in at 155?
Frustr8 replied to marfar7's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Well I know my former insurance United Health Care had or still has. a 1 Bariatric Procedure in a lifetime clause. I remember being grateful for Obamacate, when insurances companies were, forced to offer maternity and childbirth coversge, somehow Bariatrics got," grandfathered" in . Before that point Bariatrics was an elective "vaniety" procedure. And I am one to the least vain persons you would ever meet. Except, for a little lipstick, I seldom wear make up, bebop in t-shirts and levis in the summer, sweats in the winter, baby doll pyjamas or gowns in the house, sleep in oversized t-shirts(legacy of the Late Lamented) in transition seasons with cotton bike shorts, and comb my hair by touch instead of looking in a mirror. So Vain? I don't think So. I want surgery to insure I continue living, to lessen arthritis stranglehold on my body, to move freer but most of all as a for,4to my,body for putting up with me and my foibles for 72 years. THESE 5-7 CUTS ARE FOR YOU, BABY!🙋 -
Abdominal Binder & Pain?
GeminiSky replied to PopsFury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im 6 days post op and Im wearing mine everywhere. To bed, when I wake up, I literally have it on at all times. My left side is the main side the work was done on and I can tell a major difference in pain when I don't have it on. Ive linked this previous but this is one I bought, LOVE IT! Its thicker in width and length so it covers the entire area pretty well. Several sizes. https://www.amazon.com/BraceAbility-Bariatric-Abdominal-Compression-Circumference/dp/B00QLYZ1DK/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1533334829&sr=8-3&keywords=braceability%2B3x&th=1 -
On to Purees, suggestions?
macadamia replied to Rileyjay1821's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here are some images from my bariatric binder that I was issued by my surgical team, mostly pertaining to Step 2: Pureed/Full Liquid post-op diet. -
I'm about 80 hours post surgery following a repair on Petersen's hernia. Had a CT scan Monday which showed abnormalities (60% or more of these hernias don't show in ct). So op was diagnostic and therapeutic both. They found most of my bowel had migrated through a hole in Petersen's area. Was lucky it had not caused more problems- have had intermittent stomach pain for six months. Anyway - reason for posting: don't ignore abdo pain after rny surgery. Weightloss can cause holes in membrane that encloses bowel. If this trapped bowel becomes strangulated (loses blood supply) can result in bowel resection - bits cut off - colostomy or even septicemia and death. They don't show on x-ray, often not on CT either. The bowel slips in and out of the holes making symptoms intermittent. So, abdo pain especially when accompanied by bloating or vomiting needs to be reported to bariatric team. Normal docs won't have a clue. A&e docs told me I had ibs in January. I'm glad I had my surgery, glad I'm a healthy weight, but my tendency to assume I'm ok and not make a fuss could have had dire consequences.

6 days post op I was still on liquids and protein shakes on day 3. sip slow.... never had the chest pain, but i know my dr packet said if you do get chest pain stop---but if it happens every time, I would definitely call your physician/bariatric office -
So tomorrow morning (08/06) I'll start my final attempt at getting WLS done. I haven't told many people this time around (third overall) just my mom, grandmother, and my best friend. I'm super nervous that I'm going to sabotage myself again but I keep trying to tell myself that this is the best thing to do for myself. I work in surgery, bariatrics to be specific, and I know exactly what is done and why they are done. I know the instruments and every moment of the procedure like the back of my hand but I am a nervous wreck. I know if I get approval I can't back pedal this time like the ones before and I know I'll be fine the day of the procedure but this initial meeting is making me emotional and anxious as all get out. Any words of encouragement to help me through the night? Sent from my SM-S906L using BariatricPal mobile app

4 days post op and I can drink a lot
Chunkysoup replied to patdrizzle805's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way. I only had trouble with liquids the day of surgery because of nausea. After that it was smooth sailing. By one week post op I could take normal somewhat large swallows (large for a bariatric patient anyway). I am now able to eat soft foods and I have a nice tight restriction so don’t worry. I was also afraid that I had a huge sleeve or something since it was so easy to drink fluids. -

Fat Shaming by Medical Practitioners
Frustr8 replied to nibble's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
not 28 but 18 inches measure it with my pocket tape- got used to carring one when I worked Fabric and crafts. Should have a sign like amusement parks only it should say " if you can't fit a seat this size, Go Away " Same Ding Dong hands me a box of tissues one day, wouldn't need one if he' d air conditioned the waiting room instead of the examining rooms where you're half naked anyway or his own office in the back with the big mahogany desk. Oh I've lived forever I have a millions of them. A non- Bariatric dude, told me I shouldn't be pregnant if I was obese- sorry Dr Doofus but some of us do ovulate and sleep with our husbands. Besides I'm 8 1/2 months gone, a little late to call things off! -
Question about monthly vitamins and protein supplements after surgery
Taoz replied to Beta98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yikes, it adds up to a lot when I calculate it I"m only 3 months post op, so I'm still having some protein water and a collagen protein supplement in coffee daily. Taking Multivitamin, Calcium&Vit D, and Iron&Folate tablets. My multi and calcium&VitD vitamins are a special Australian bariatric formulation, and cost me Aus$47, the regular Iron&Folate another $5. (note, everything in Australia costs more than US). My daily protein water and collagen supplement costs just under $100 a month. I'll be dropping the $60 for protein water beyond about 6 months post op, but may keep up the collagen for longer, especially if it may help my skin elasticity in the first year post surgery (though I'm expecting to need some skin removal surgery) I do tend to think of my protein supplements costs as some of my "food" costs though, with the remainder being mostly rolled oats porridge (like $2 a month lol), fresh veggies (half of them grown in my organic garden), some lean meats (mostly chicken drumsticks/marylands to slow cook sous-vide and beef mince), some crackers, cheese and milk, decaf coffee beans and some quest protein bars, so the overall "food" costs for me are pretty cheap per month and will be very cheap once my food volume allows me to get all my protein with meat and dairy. Once I get beyond 6 months post op I may move to cheaper vitamins provided I"m sure they will be effective for my post op tummy and diet. When I see my doctor this week I"m going to ask him to order a blood test to check my current vitamin levels (since my surgeon didn't ask for it and I'm not seeing him now for another 4 months). I particularly want to know how my calcium, B12, and iron levels are. -

Question about monthly vitamins and protein supplements after surgery
RickM replied to Beta98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My short answer is not enough to have made it worth figuring out, lol. Multivits - Costco brand Centrum analog: $10-15 per 400, 1 per day then, 3-4 per week now Calcium Cit - Target analog to Citracal - $10 per 180 or 90 doses, so $10 per daily dose for 90 days, call it $20 for typical early VSG twice a day dosing for 90 days. First couple months you prob can't swallow those horse pills, so look up Bariatric Advantage chewables, or similar brand, Alternative is some brands (Celebrate, IIRC) make a petite half dose pill that works well for many - figure twice the price of the Target pills, or$40 for 2 doses per day for 90 days. B12 - never took it (more of an RNY thing, tho some are naturally short on it.) Iron - maybe - Solgar Iron Bisglycinate 25mg, prob $25 per 180 capsules or 6 months worth Protein - Optimum Nutrition 100% whey isolate - $40-50 per 55 serving tub (on sale now for $30) - figure 2 servings per day for the first month, 1 per day after that, YMMV ballpark est $140-ish total for the first 3 months. -
Great! Thanks for the update!! My evaluator is herself a bariatric surgery recipient so that puts me at ease. It’s so weird to me that so far the judgment that I perceived would happen hasn’t happened. That being said - I’m super private person. I haven’t even told my husband yet. If I didn’t have to tell anyone I wouldn’t. Ugh! How long was yours? She said it is 2 hours.

Low blood pressure 1 week post op
soph504 replied to soph504's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: Went to get labs done after no improvement after increasing water intake. Turns out my vitamin D levels were low! Not sure why bc I was taking calcium citrate with vitamin d, but I changed brands to the bariatric advantage chewable and my energy levels improved, bp and hr went up, too! Lesson learned: when in doubt, consult a medical professional. -

Help please, pregnant after mini gastric bypass
mmy posted a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
So I’ve had mini gastric bypass 2 years ago and I’m finally pregnant. I switched from taking bariatric Multivitamins to prenatal Vitamins. I need to know if that’s ok and covers all my nutrients and minerals needs? In addition to prenatal vitamins I’m also taking 1200 mg of calcium citrate, 20mg Chelated Zinc, 5mg Folic Acid and once in a week 10,000 IU Vitamin D, I would also need to know when should I have my first prenatal visit to the Obgyn? Mine is scheduled at week 6, what do I expect of it other than ultrasound and what what type of Vitamin testing should be preformed? Anything else that I need to know.. I am a bit worried and excited- 5 replies
