Today is day 5 of 7 day pre-op liquid diet. Weight is 418 lbs. (Started at 569 lbs) I purchased FAGE Total 0% Milkfat Yogurt to eat 3 times a day to get the 60 grams of protein daily. (18grams per 6oz) Yesterday, I was unable to eat the yogurt due to feeling sickly. I instead placed Unjury Santa Fe Chile Protein Powder in chicken broth. For dinner, mixed a small amount of yogurt and Unjury Chicken Soup protein powder in chicken broth. Drinking water mixed with Crystal Light and Kroger Lite Pink Lemonade to intake minimum of 64 oz daily. Not hungry at all! Sometimes I feel strange, weak and sick stomach feeling, bad breath and gas. Surgery is Thursday! Excited to begin my new life and continue my single engine private pilot land certificate to soar above the clouds. Up...Up...and Away!

I was allowed three shakes and three additions (yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, and fat free sugar free pudding and all the jello I️ wanted) it was hard but I made it. It wasn’t easy but it’s doable! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

How do you measure your food?
Mrs.RRn replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would you say that you weigh all solids (meat, veggies, cheese, etc). And measure semi solids and edible liquids? And how much do you eat at one meal? I eat 2-3 oz of solid food at a meal. I weigh out my meat (example: chicken) and don't usually weight or measure my veggies bc I can usually only eat about a couple tsp-tbsp of veggies. If it's a semi-solid or thicker liquid, I eat about 3-4 Fluid ounces (like chili, Soup, yogurt) -

I had mine 8/1/23 and last food I had was 7/31 so 3 weeks today of clears, I asked about protein shakes and they said I could get the Ensure clear protein drink but no shakes! I can’t drink it because it’s so sweet it gags me so I’ve lived on broth and a lot of water and snowcones w/ sf syrup and popsicles. Three days ago I had cooked/frozen several large batches of Lima, Red beans, cream peas and bean soup. I had some of the bean broth bc it had a bit of substance and it seemed to be all that kept me going. I ran out and went back to broth with seasoning but finally started using 1 small can cream of chicken soup to a quart of chicken broth plus 2 cups water and cooked down with a bunch of Cajun spice. I go back to surgeon tomorrow and am supposed to be put on soft puréed food, eggs, mashed potatoes and yogurts per their instructions and I am certain that if I don’t gnaw my arm off by then I will come home and eat the best eggs and potatoes of my life 🤣 I have been starving for the last 10 days and I’m pretty sure my stomach has healed bc it growls and gives hunger pains about 90-120 post broth meals. -
Unfortunately, nothing sweet is a problem for me. Only problem is sometimes I eat something cold like frozen yogurt too early in the day and it tightened the band....makes it contract. Maybe that's why you're bringing it up. Happened to me today for the first time. As for visiting home- I just did the same and I'll tell you what I think. You (and I) did not lose the weight for anyone back home. We did it for ourselves and the only extension might be our spouses. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks and anyone who doesn't tell you that you look amazing....can go straight to...."gehenom"! You may find that after a while of hearing nothing but how much you've changed and how great you look, that you get a little annoyed- I did. It was like, enough, already. But that was from friends. I have a mother who is German Jewish, and kind words generally come with a zinger- so if you have that kind of relative, or if there are those who might be jealous, etc...you're just gonna have to blow them off. I have a GOOD friend, who told me how amazing I look.....and I should really now invest in better bras! What the %#&@&? I told her that I know she means well (I'm not really so sure by the way) but please, if you have a compliment give it and leave it at that. My mother is the best at taking a compliment away, but I take it from her and just forget it, but I won't with anyone else. No left-handed compliments- I told my friend if she doesn't have something nice to say, say nothing at all. That my honest advise for you. Have a great trip and stick with those who really care about and "see" the real you.

I Need More Protein. Please Help!
NWgirl replied to Sammatha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have also ordered an unflavored Protein called Fundamental Protein. It doesn't have any other additives other than they whey, which is nice because they usually have sweeteners, etc. If you bought unflavored, you could mix it with all liquids, yogurts, Soup, etc... -
I've had my second fill. I guess it was on the 10th. So two weeks ago. I have noticed a huge difference in what I can and can't eat. I get that golf ball feeling way more often. I would say at least once a day if not more often. I'm still hungry quite often. But I guess that's normal. At some point you are supposed to be, right? I eat a good dinner and occasionally have a yogurt or something like that as an evening snack. When I wake up I have some v8 fusion and some Protein stuff and a cup of coffee. I am NOT a Breakfast person. Never have been. So it shouldn't surprise me that by 10:30-11:00 I'm hungry. I think that really is the only time I'm "starving." The rest is head saying I should eat. I don't know. I sometimes think that I shouldn't have gotten this fill. I should have waited a bit longer. I have more head issues at this point than hunger ones. That's my experience.

Any December '08 Bandsters?
lbhinch replied to Florida Pete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is set for the 17th!! Only 3 more days! I have been on liquids all day yesterday and today and so far so good. I think I wont have any problems making it 2 more days! Wish me luck tho, I know I could use it. Reading all the posts has been great and such a learning tool, just all the different opinions and useful ideas. I am so glad I found this site! I am a little confused between clear liquids and liquid diet. My paperwork says clear liquids but also lists protein shakes, yogurt and other "unclear" liquids. Anyone have any thoughts as to that? I have staying with clear except for my protein shake. That has been like my only "meal". I am wishing everyone the best results and look forward to reading up on everyone's progress! Merry Christmas to us. -

Tomorrow is my big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I am so excited to start this next phase. I am sick of shakes, tomato soup, yogurt and pudding. I know I have at least another 2-3 weeks of that but at least I can add in applesauce and bananas in a week. :tongue2: -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
HelloPenny replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone. I had my pre-op Doctor visit yesterday. Was pretty uneventful. My Doctor is very nice and knowledgeable, but I think he has done this so many times, he is a bit jaded by the whole experience. He's very nonchalant, and nothing is a big deal. Maybe he's that way with me because he seems confident that I will do great. I can pick up my daughter they said. Just have to squat and lift with my legs, not bend over. We talked about me being a "poor healer" and my concern about the incisions healing. I asked him about steroid cream or a shot. He didn't like the idea of a shot, but said it was necessary we could look at a cream. He didn't want me to heal too fast or too much, so I would not develop keloids. I agree! So I bought some anti-bacterial body wash for the shower to help out with that. I got permission to go home the same day, so I don't have to inconvenience my family with driving back down to Dallas to get me and arranging for extra time off to watch my daughter. I was surprised when they said I would be admitted. I thought their regular practice was all out-patient. I went about bought all my liquid/chewable vitamin/supplement replacements @ Sprouts. If you have a Sprouts in your area, I highly recommend them. The produce and meat department are amazing. And, the produce especially is no over priced. They run lots of sales, too. Anyway, they have someone that works in their Vitamin/Medicine department full time who is very knowledge and helped me a lot. I take several supplements and wanted to continue taking them. I just hope they are not horrible tasting. I was little leery about the liquid Omega-3 options. I am not real keen on swallowing a few tablespoons of fish oil! But, I got this really cool product that is like a smoothie consistency. It's strawberry-banana flavored, and you only take 2 tsps. So I figure I can stir it in some yogurt, if all else fails. Going tomorrow morning to buy stuff to make a large pot of chicken stock. Going to make up a bunch, so I will have it for broth, and to make some cream soups for when I get there. I still need to get some unflavored protein powder. Blah Blah Blah! I'm rambling. Good Luck to everyone that went yesterday, today, and tomorrow! -

Any December '08 Bandsters?
susan1961 replied to Florida Pete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... only one day of clear liquids pre-op, and on solid food in week 3, but find myself preferring soups and yogurt still. My doc puts a fill in the band when he puts it in, so I don't think I've had quite the hell everyone describes. Stupidly, I don't know my band's capacity or how much he started with... will ask when I go see him in 3 more weeks. Congrats to all on your progress to date! What fun we will all have as we learn to live with our bands and watch the pounds peel off! -
I Need More Protein. Please Help!
dry_gulch_02 replied to Sammatha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All these ideas are good. But wow, I buy Bariatric Advantage meal replacements in a bag and only pay $60 a bag. I order it straight from them. I generally add frozen blueberries and cinnamon and it comes out like a brilliant blue cinnamon streusel ice cream. I guess I will get tired of it but haven't yet. It is still pricey but I figure it really isn't bad, with the things I add it works out to about $2 a serving, which is a meal. I use the greek yogurts as they have so much protein, but I love yogurt and the Greek is so much more 'yogurty'. You could add one to your shake mixes to change the flavor some. I started doing that because I tried to go vegetarian and my hair started falling out. -

I enjoyed reading your post. I think I tend to believe the same. I'm 3 weeks post op Tomorrow. I've been having major cravings and after my lunch- I went to get some frozen yogurt. No regrets- didn't sit the best in my yummy but not terrible. I,too, do not believing in depriving myself but also believe eat Protein first and then see how you're feeling. I did that an still wanted it so I got it. Thank you again and congrats on your loss! -
HELP WITH PROTEIN!!!

Dannon Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt is 15g protein per serving. -
I am a vegetarian (most of my adult life) who generally doesn't eat eggs. I eat Greek yogurt and vegetarian cheese (cheese that isn't made with animal rennet--but it of course is not vegan, because it's made with dairy). I also no longer buy leather and try to live as compassionately as possible in all parts of my life. I have been getting my Protein from soy products, whey and soy Protein powder, Beans (kind of high in carbs for the amount of protein you get), cheese, and Greek yogurt. I have very seriously been considering going vegan. However, if I want to keep my protein up and carbs down, I really think that I will need to drink my protein (plant forms) and then eat veggies as my meals. My surgeon wants his patients off of Protein shakes once we move to solid foods, but I don't think that is realistic for a vegetarian, and especially not for a vegan. There are very few natural vegan food sources of protein that don't also require that you consume some carbs--and in general, many aren't super-high in protein, and we can't eat the volume needed to get vegan protein from food alone. One example is soy yogurt--it is much lower in protein and higher in carbs than Greek yogurt. I also don't want to overdo it on soy, because female reproductive cancer runs in my family and I am also hypothyroid. I will be interested to hear what you end up doing and how it works for you. It's good to know someone else is considering a vegan way of eating.

October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
ashleytn replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 2 was my worst day. But today (day 3) I'm feeling so much better. Fluids are going down much easier. I'm down almost 20 pounds from my highest weight on 9/18/12. My husband told a friend of ours that he could tell I was losing before my surgery. The best position for me was propped up on my bed. I even slept slightly propped up. I'm ready for Monday when I can start yogurt and sugar free pudding! -

SalvoStrike replied to Ashbash88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had a bypass surgery a few weeks ago, and it started with soups and protein shakes. I understand your desire to get back to an active life, especially if you were into sports. I'm also looking forward to when I can resume physical activity. As for satisfying and filling meals, I've found that braised vegetables with chicken breast and quinoa can be a tasty and healthy choice. Additionally, fruits, low-fat yogurts, and vegetable omelets are good for variety. The key is to watch portion sizes and follow your doctor's recommendations. -

Saturday 2.24.18 Update (4 days post-surgery) 224.2lbs I feel really great! The only pain meds I'm taking are the 30day prescription for gabapentin which heals the nerves, and liquid sugar free tylenol. Fluids go down so easily! I'm able to take in 8oz per hour without issues (that includes protein drinks). I'm still enjoying the same protein drinks as pre-surgery without a sweet aversion, but I think it's because I like to mix it up with different liquids to extend it? Dunno! Last night I had a touch of fever, 99.2 (not a real fever at all), but I think it was enough to set off some nausea. So I just rested in my recliner with a cold cloth to my throat and things got better quickly! I woke up this morning and took my meds and pain is great and no nausea or fever! So I dodged a bullet there! Also, taking my pills hasn't been an issue either, they go down quietly and know to stay down! LOL! I'm already cooking for Mr. F. and am having no issues with yearnings or cravings! I made him a bacon egg cheese low carb breakfast taco this morning and I was like, "Meh! It looks dynamo, but I'm looking forward to my yogurt soup! Very surreal! I'm getting my walking in as planned, and it's just fine. I'm poopin' just fine thanks to MOM. The GasX strips are golden! I love them and they really work. I'm going to be adding my vitamins today. Hope that doesn't tip the balance of fine! So far, "no regerts"! This morning I'm having my first thinned down Greek yogurt, aka yogurt soup! It's divine! Here's the recipe: Blueberry Yogurt Serves 1 - 2 (about 1/2 cup volume) 3oz (85g) Greek fat free plain yogurt (HEB) 1floz (28g) Premier Protein vanilla RTD 1floz (28g) Walden Farms blueberry syrup 1tsp (1.75g) benefiber 3 drops liquid vanilla stevia Mix it all together and enjoy! Eight weeks post-op, I can eat everything
RickM replied to Nelly S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't seem to be particularly harmful - your body will tell you if it objects. My doc has us on mushies from the hospital, moving into more real foods as tolerated, but avoiding the simple carbs and empty calories (and his practice has been doing sleeves for around 20 years, so I figure they know about the care and feeding of this type of altered stomach - I still can't quite understand the extensive liquids that some docs impose upon their patients - maybe it's a holdover from RNY practice?) I tried some restaurant chicken parmesan and soft tacos from Chipotle (less the tortilla) at around the two week mark and they did fine. I was told to start adding veg at my 10 day follow up since I was getting in more than the requisite Protein at the time. I was making small southwest style salads with a couple ounces of leftover meat in them in the 3-4 week range and was adding some raspberry and almonds to my greek yogurt Snacks at around the same time. I haven't tossed anything back up yet, though a couple things didn't quite feel right at the time. Your doc seems to have a fairly sane program. I can't quite fathom the ultra low carb mania that some docs are on - it's a useful thing temporarily for some conditions, but long term seems to be substituting whatever bad nutritional habits we may have had pre-op with another one post -op. Still, it works for some, (and some have a lot more weight to lose than we do, so need to lose at a faster rate to lose enough during the prime losing phase) though long term they're likely to have problems from nutritional deficiencies if they continue to be obsessive about it.. I'm not having as much fruit and veg as I was having pre-op, but am usually getting in a couple of servings of them a day. That will increase in time as I get into maintenance mode. I try to keep a lid of 1200 calories on my daily intake, and am usually in the 1000-1100 range (though I will probably break thru that today - we're going to Outback for dinner tonight and I'm sitting at about 750 this afternoon. I was 2/3 to goal weight at around the 3 month mark, so that seems to be working for me. -
Road Trip For 2 Weeks! What To Eat?!
So Cal Kurt replied to 2bfit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take a cooler and I would opt for hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, ready to drink shakes, cheese, greek yogurt, meats and some crackers. You are too fresh out for things like protein bars. ALso try Fast food burgers(no bun), KFC grilled chicken and mashed potatoes, Grilled chicken and refreid beans from any mexican place. Wendy's chili or their grilled chicken wrap (ditch the tortilla) There are lots of choices. You should be able to find something almost anywhere. Also McDonalds will sell you scrambled eggs ala carte. That with a half of an english muffin (extra toasted) is a really good breakfast. Fruits and veggies probably still give you some problems so I would stay away from those. Also have some Gas-X (or the store brand equivalent) on hand for in the car when your stomach gets gurgley. -
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that is fantasizing about when I am finally able to puree some food! I had surgery on Oct 2, so I'm still only on full liquids, including cream based soups made with milk, cream of wheat and plain yogurt. Yesterday was my husband & my 10th wedding anniversary, and normally we would have went out for a nice dinner together. I was having a really hard time figuring out what to do, so we went to Target, and walked around for a while, came home and that was it. How sad is that?? lol I know eventually we'll be able to go out to dinner again, and this stage is only temporary. But you're right, I too am finding out just what a mental battle this really is. I knew it would be tough ,but didn't quite envision it being quite this difficult. I'm just trying to take it day by day, sometimes hour by hour, constantly reminding myself why I chose this way to go, and what life will be like once I really start noticing the weight loss, and how much better off I'll be. For anyone who likes to judge WLS and think it's taking the "Easy way out", I would beg to differ! This is such a battle, but I know it will get better. Good luck to you!!

Feeling TOO good after surgery?
intime450 replied to mamamareli's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was wednesday the 8th. I'm doing pretty well. Had some gas pain but no real pain from the incisions. The largest incision has been a little sore but not worth taking meds for. The gas pain is finally gone but I am having some difficulty getting all the fluids in and with any little bit of consumption my tummy just rumbles. Been on clear liquids since surgery but get to start yogurt, pudding, and cream soup tomorrow so maybe that will go down well. I have absolutely no hunger so thats kinda nice. So glad I did this finally!!! Nothing but better from now on!!! -
