    Out of Network/Co Insurance HELP????

The hospital has to file both insurance policies for you, you don't have a choice which policy to file with, it doesn't work that way unfortunately. The primary will pay it's 70% or whatever is covered leaving a patient balance. Then the claim will be submitted to your secondary insurance carrier who will come back and cover up to whatever percent they cover, normally. If the secondary covers both the hospital and doctor at 100% in network then you shouldn't have a patient balance. If the secondary covers at 90%, you could still have to pay that 10%. This is not a guarantee and it's in your best interest to call your 2nd insurance and ask if anything is excluded and what, if any, will be your share after both insurances have paid.
  2. Well tomarrow morning I will finally have my surgery. Getting pretty nervous, I hope I can sleep tonight. Have to be at hospital at 9am, surgery at 10:30. Hoping all goes well and I get my band. Will keep you all updated on how it goes. Thanks for all the support and great info.
  3. Oh my gosh, I'm 10 days Post op and I've been so hungry and no one believes me. I'm really glad to hear it might go away!

    Eating Slowly

Oh, Bryn.....I have not yet had my surgery, but I SOOOO know how you feel. Every single diet I've been on has left me ravenous between meals and I have always, always, horfed (new word ) my food trying to fill up that hole. I completely agree with Rainy that it is so important to not let yourself get hungry. Keep something small on hand all the time and eat/drink it between your meals so you don't feel that hunger which drives us to eat so fast. The only time I have been successful at diets or controlling my intake was to plan, plan, plan and always have something handy and ready to tide me over or believe you me, I was in line at the closest McDonald's or Taco Bell!! I have been researching the band for 10 years and have heard a couple of times the 'pencil easer' analogy. I have also visited four nutritionists through my journey and all of then said that is ridiculous, way too small. They also said thumbnail, tip of your thumb, or for us mommies, toddler-sized....how you used to cut up your child's food when they were little. The one most important thing they all taught me was to above all, be PRESENT when you're eating. Most times we're not. We're watching TV, talking, doing something, walking around and snacking while preparing. They say to be really present and be aware of what you're putting in your mouth, enjoy it, savor it, put your fork down, enjoy the eating experience. I know I don't do that....when I have to actually put this into practice, it'll be tough. I just 'horfed' my late lunch again today because I waited too long and thought I was going to die of massive starvation, so I Hoover'ed through my Q'doba *snicker*. Best of luck to you, Bryn....hang in there. I think it's gonna be a real learning curve, but honestly, I think you will automatically adjust after time. Your body will learn to slow down and find it's 'after' pace....
  6. 3 months psot op. Then I developed an ulcer at month 10, so I am back on it for 3 more months,
  7. I had asked the same question. I am not that far out from surgery. The difference is as leeblewb stated a lot of women are much younger on here. I'm 46, starting weight 233 5,1 my bmi was 43-44. I am seeing an average monthly loss of 8-10 pounds give or take. I am hoping to be at my goal before end of October or damn near close. I too do low carb. No white carbs what so ever. Exercise 3-4 times a week. Everyone is different on the loss that they experience. Adhearence and following your surgeons guidelines is key. Good Luck!!!!! Keep us updated. Deb

I Fit In A Size 18 Now! Yeahhh!

Oh girl doesn't that feel good? I too kept some pants from 10 years ago hoping I would fit in them again one day because they are STILL cute! And I'll be damned if they aren't fitting me reallllllly well now. My butt looks super cute. Bet your booty looks cute too!
  9. I went from a size 26-24 or triple XL to a size 10 and a large-medium shirt. Love this sleeve! I hope to eventually be a size six!
  10. Yeah from what i've read on here some surgeons are pretty loose with their diet progression...mine wasn't and had a strict week by week plan Weeks 1-2: Full liquid 10 grams of protein per meal 6 meals a day (clear liquids) Weeks 3-4: Blended 10-15 grams protein per meal 4-6 meals a day (blended meat, fish, eggs, or tofu, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, bady food, cooked vegetables, fruit, soups,) Weeks 5-6: Low Residue 20 grams protein per meal 3-5 meals a day (lean poultry, fish, or lean ground meat, creamy nut butters, egg or egg beaters, soft cooked vegetables, light yogurt TOASTED bread) Weeks 7 and beyond: 20-25 grams of protein per meal 3 meals a day (fish, poultry, legumes cooked soft, fresh or canned vegetables and fruit, cooked cereals, potatoes not fried, whole grains like rice quinoa or barley) avoid sweet beverages, whole milk, citrus acidic foods, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, breads with seeds, fruit with tough skins, high fat meals, soft gummy bread, sugar and sweets that's sort of a skeleton of what to eat if i forgot anything someone please add on
  11. I was banded on Aug 8th (9 days ago) I was really starting to starve to death & since my doc. said full liquids anything you can get thru a straw without using a straw I have been having strained cream of chicken & cream of broccoli soup. I also put some creamy potato soup in the blender.I'm assuming these are okay, as they would go thru a straw. I've got to tell you after having only the diet jello & popsicles, broth & juices, these are REALLY hitting the spot. Plus I have 2 protein shakes a day & no sugar added, fruit flavored applesause & some water/juice/diet lipton gree tea. So... I think I'm gonna make it.I just need to start exercising now that I am feeling better. I'm still not supposed to bend down for another week or tug & pull as in the dishwasher, dryer, vacuuming, sweeping & mopping. & no lifting over 10 lbs for 6 weeks. I won't last 6 weeks on that, but I'll be careful. What has your doc. said? I know some people that are jumping in & doing everything right away & I could too, since I'm feeling much better, but I don't want to take the chance of causing band slippage, or just not healing. What do you think?

    Single in Bensalem PA

Looking for a woman in Bensalem are who has been through weight loss surgery to share experience with and perhaps something more. I am 51 years old and live with my 10 pound killer Chihuahua Barkley. Hate being single and having a partner would make things so much easier. You must love going to the beach though. My favorite place. Thank you John
  13. I'm similar. 10 weeks and 35 lbs. I had a 2 week stall with nothing. I started going to the gym this week and doing elliptical 30 mins and weight lifting. I'm also watching my carbs as I was eating oatmeal in morning. Switched it for eggs. The weight may not be as fast coming off as others but my clothes sure are getting looser. Let's stick in there. I'm sure with consistency we will continue to loose. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had surgery and some complications!

Hi, I had my surgery on Wednesday and still have a lot of gas. I want to get rid of it one way or another. I do know that walking helps a lot. I also was able to go #2 yesterday. That was a relief. However, I am surprised that the scales have me heavier than pre surgery. How can that be with this liguid diet? I guess it is from all of the swelling. However, I feel like I should be 10 pounds lighter. I am not going to weigh myself again until I go to the Dr. next Friday. Although, I am excited to see a drop in weight.
  15. I posted over on the vitamins/supplements board but must not be very active over there. I am pre-op (surgery scheduled for 8/10) - I haven't had my nutrition class yet and have this on my list to ask, but I have ulcerative colitis and have to take 9 pills a day of my colitis medication (3 3xday). I also take a blood pressure pill in the a.m. and as of now I take a multi-Vitamin and one Calcium tablet in a.m. and p.m. I am very nervous about taking that volume of pills when I have my new baby sleeve. Anyone else have lots of pills they take and do they have problems? They make a 1-a-day pill for colitis but it is extremely expensive and I hate to give up my cheaper generic.

    This looks delicious!

I came across this on Pinterest, it's a variation from something our family has done for ages, oven roasted veggies. Sauté onions in olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Spread over bottom of baking dish. Arrange zucchini, tomato, onion in dish as shown in illustration. Drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper. Bake for 20-30 min on 350. Sprinkle top with a good Parmesan such as grana padano or reggianno, return to oven for 10-15 min more, enjoy!

    band slip/dilated esophagus

Glad you got your band back. I'm hoping and praying that I get to keep mine. I was a binge eater prior to being banded and was gaining8-10 lbs per year. The band helps me to control that. It didn't however change the way my brain thinks about food. I definitely need it to stay.
  19. I choose the Lap Band because of all the positive information I found on it. I love my band, I have been banded now since 3/31/09 I can not see my port nor can i barely feel it... I really think what the previous poster said refers more per persons body... and im a size 10/12 so thats pretty good. My port also has never hurt a lot of people complain of that... and i have had no complications, no PBing and i can eat what i want in moderation... It really is a personal decision.. i have heard the realize band is a newer band??? In my opinion they all do the same job so pick whatever:D

    Post-op diet

Yeah, I was moved from the liquids to purée after 10 days, when I was initially told 2 weeks. Cant say I was complaining though! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Good to know. I just feel like I'm tolerating everything really well, and would love to try a scrambled egg or something other than liquid. Obviously don't want to damage anything, but I know some docs advance their WLS patients quickly. I'm struggling over here When's your next apt? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  22. I heard somebody say this the other day and it really resonated with me. She said, "Reward yourself for consistency." Too often we set unrealistic goals over which we have no control, like "I've got to lose 5 lbs by the end of the month and if I do, I'll buy myself a new sweater." But what if instead we rewarded our BEHAVIOR instead of relying on the results, which may or may not come by the scale. Say, for instance, we rewarded ourself for tracking our food every day for a month. Or we rewarded ourself for every 10 times we exercised. It can be small things like a mani/pedi or a new outfit or a foot massager or movie tickets or anything, but reward yourself for making the effort.

When did you start working out post op?

I had no intention to exercise. Exercise was boring and very painful. After about 2 months and 60+ pounds I felt lighter and wanted to try moving around more. I started walking about more. Went down on the strip, malls, museums, aquariums. Just around and people watching. Eventually we were walking about 8 miles several times a week. But exercise? No way. After about 10 months and 200+ pounds, I just felt like I had and abundance of energy. Almost floating, it seemed. I thought I'd see if I could run. I bought "Idiots guide to running" which had a program to run 30 minutes in 30 days, and managed to complete it. I listened to audio books to pass the time. But exercise? No way. Month 13 and 250+ pounds down, I was still running. Listening to the Dark Tower (7 books), so runs got longer until I was running 90 miles per week. Over the next year I ran 5 marathons. I never did exercise. Exercise is boring and an obligation. I didn't have surgery to live on a diet and do things I never wanted or enjoyed doing. Walking, then running, was a joy. Do you.
  25. This is what I got: Walking only for the first 6 weeks No baths/swimming until week 3 No lifting over 30 lbs until 6 weeks out My main concern was sports: sprinting, throwing, catching, sliding. I play soccer, softball and ultimate frisbee and he said not until the 3 month mark! (This is killing me, but my teams will still be there when I'm ready) I'm almost at the 4th week mark, and I know I'm not even ready to do any major stretching like Yoga or swimming laps or helping my husband with the 10 yards of mulch in our driveway (sorry babe) ;o) Still kinda sore on the inside, and don't want to risk pushing myself too quick.
