    Hungry days?

I'm not sure what's going on but seriously I haven't felt like this in 6 weeks.. It's a hunger that keeps coming back, I'll have to contact my doctor tomorrow and ask for a check up or something because this can't be normal. Hopefully it's a one off and tomorrow will be back to normal.. I could be mistaking swelling of stomach pain for hunger I don't know but I'm concerned Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    More energy?

It all depends on how much weight you have to lose. I started feeling the energy right around 8 weeks post op and it only got better from there.
  3. When did you start feeling more energy? I'm almost 6 weeks out, have lost about 50 including pre op diet. I feel pretty good, but about the same as I did before surgery. I keep hearing that I'll feel so much better and I'll have so much more energy buy I'm just not seeing it. Doing really well with getting Protein Fluid and Vitamins, just still tired a lot, which was a big problem for me for a long time, I blame the sleep apnea. Maybe when I e lost enough that that clears up I'll feel it? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Hey Welcome to LBT! I usually do weigh every morning (when I weigh the lightest) But you'll notice more of a difference if you weigh maybe once a week. Pick a day that you want to weigh and you'll be happier with the results other than weighing everyday and not seeing the scale budge. I hope this helps.
  5. I had a band put in 21/12/2014. At first it was fine and I could eat and drink normally, after my first fill it was the same. I had my third fill in March, and after the fill I was told to have a drink of water before I went home and stay on a liquid diet for 24 hours. I drunk the water before I left with no problems, but when I got home tried to have some soup which caused chest pain and instantly came back up. I couldn't even drink hardly anything, and didn't even try to eat for 3 days and felt terrible. After a few weeks I was able to drink with no problems, but eating was hit and miss - some days I could eat relatively normally (slowly and chewing well) but other days I would take one bite and get stuck. Anyway, 3 weeks ago I started being able to eat normally with no sickness so decided to go for another fill on 4/5/2015. Since then I've been back to how I was before - hardly being able to drink and can't eat at all. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, and if anyone has any advice because I'm starting to worry and feeling so rubbish at the moment.
  6. I haven't had any change in tastes after surgery -- the Proteins that were nasty before are still nasty and the tasty ones still tasty. For Clear liquids diet (first week) I hated almost everything I tried to drink. I tried mixing with other things like Vitamin Water zero and crystal light but just couldn't tolerate. I called the hospital and found they add Liquid Prosource (available on Amazon) to mix in crystal light. It was tolerable in the hospital. I immediately ordered a bottle which hasn't come yet (over a week and a half). For the full liquids phase, i like unjury chocolate Splendor and unflavored. The chicken soup one is pretty good, too. I've enjoyed the Syntrax shakes I've tried -- there's actually an Oreo cookie flavored one! I like Muscle Milk Light 100, too... it's frequently Breakfast on the way to work.
  7. I had my band out in December and my sleeve was done last week. Like you, I also have PCOS. The band removal was a super simple surgery; the sleeve surgery was a bit harder. I did gain 5lbs between the band removal and sleeve procedures. But, after I had healed from the band removal, I did go a little crazy for a week or two. If you stick to a normal, healthy diet you won't gain anything.
  8. Okay I have a quick question - if women are suppose to have 50 grams of protein per day, but the band makes your stomach the size of a small egg and can only hold 2-3 ounces per meal, how do you get all of the protein you need the first week on a totally liquid diet? My protein shakes for pre-op have been 11 ounces with 20 grams of protein...Thank you in advance for your help.
  9. What helped me post op, was taking chewable GasX, walking, and if you are experiencing burning, you may want to ask your surgeon for a PPi, like prevacid to control the acid. Also,my post op meal were 1st week Clear liquids and full on day 4, and then week 2 full liquids and week 3 were mushies, also I did not eat no more than about 2-4 oz of any food to avoid any type of pain. You have to go slow in the beginning while healing. Good luck
  10. Parisshel..... I love how you realized the band allowed you to break free from DIETing. I remember B52 used to say the same thing, and as a newbie at the time.... I didn't get it! I do now as I continue on my journey. My 89 year old mother constantly asks me when we go out to lunch, "Can you eat this? Can you eat that?" YES, mother..... I CAN eat almost anything. The band does the work of allowing me to only eat a small portion of THIS or THAT. I, too, stay away from THE WHITE STUFF..... My choice because it is my nemesis. As with most things people have to deal with, WE CAN DO ANYTHING FOR A GIVEN AMOUNT OF TIME..... You got this..... This DIET will only last three months. Best Wishes!

To Weigh or Not to Weigh

You'll get yes and no answers on this one. For me, weighing daily is not something that works for me because my weight fluctuates so much. It goes a long way (no pun) for my self-esteem when I see consistent weight LOSS and not ups and downs. Therefore, I weigh once a week on the same day (if possible) wearing a bra and panties.
  12. I am only 7 days post-op. Pre-surgery I often skipped periods. I had my period just a week before surgery. I dropped 23 lbs. my first week & got my period today. Have you found since surgery that your period cycles are different? Do you also find that you are a little more "hormonal" than you were before surgery. Thanks in advance.
  13. May he weird but about 7 weeks out, down 33lbs and would love to see some charts. I feel like I'd love to have an idea of the ups, downs and stalls people went through to encourage me on what is normal!
  14. I've been a daily weigher for a long time, even before banding. About 2 weeks ago, I stopped. Now, I'm going to try weighing once a week only. I was getting too tied up in what the scale said. I do wonder about the accountability factor, but am working on other things like tracking what I eat, and paying attention to how I feel and how my clothes fit. Like so much else in bandland, the "right" answer varies from person to person and time to time. What I've learned that has helped the most is to be flexible and kind of check in with myself to see if I need to tweak anything.

    Pre-Op Diet Weight Loss

So not looking forward to starting this liquid only diet. I was advised to drink one protein shake and three slim fast shakes for the first three days. After three days, I can trade one of the shakes for a small garden salad...... no small meals at all.....Surgery is set for the 25th..
  17. I just got Fluid put back in my band after having it taken out because of a possible slip. I had the fluid removed about 5 weeks ago and went in yesterday to start having it refilled. I gained 8 pounds over the 5 weeks (thank goodness it wasn't more) and my doc was okay with that. He started with a moderate fill but said we will need to be careful because I could react differently and may not need as much as I had before. I feel like I'm starting all over again, but I am so glad I am back on track and have my mindset to do well, just as when I first had my surgery. It's amazing how gaining 8 pounds makes you feel. I definately don't want to do that again! I have about 30 pounds left to lose and am eager to get it moving in the right direction again! Just wanted to share. Good luck to everyone out there!
  18. Since Monday I've been exhausted..really bad back pains and headaches. I went to the doctor yesterday and they said that my urine came back that I was dehydrated that my urine did not have one drop of water in it. I've been running a fever all week too...but I've been having stomach pains..on about 7 months post op. They feel like someone punched me right in the stomach..if u press down its tender.I can't lay on my side. I've also for the first time since surgery had horrible heartburn they fixed my hernia during surgery..I was told he didn't put mesh in...so I hope it did slip in again cuz when I eat or drink the pains come back bad. I also hope there's no leak! I just hope they can find out cuz fever usually means infection and I was checked for uti's and all!!!

    comfort eating

Hi, I lost 5kg in the week after surgery and was then promoted to mushies. the post op liquid diet isn't too bad - the first few days you don't really feel like eating anyway and then you get Soups and smoothies and jelly and broth and drinking yoghurt - basically anything that goes up a McDonalds straw. You'll do fine!! Danna
  20. Yeah, I’m in Victoria. Pre op I was just on 100 at my heaviest. I then decided to take out top cover health insurance and start the ball rolling. In the 12 month wait period I tried duromine, dropped 12 kilos in 3 months but the lack of sleep just made me feel crazy. Was doing good and dropped another 2 kilos off duromine. Then the weight crept back. Over about 10 weeks I went from 86 to 96 kilos. So by the time I saw my surgeon I was so glad he had me booked into hospital 3 weeks from our first visit. So far eating most things has gone really good. Only if I eat one bite too much I vomit a bit. Drinking enough is the bit I struggle the most with. Atm I can eat almost 1/2 to 3/4 of a small yoghurt now. So around 80ml. How much my taste in food changed was the biggest shock. The kids got kfc the other week, I stole one popcorn chicken, one chip, and a little pinch of skin and it all tasted disgusting, and I threw it up within few minutes. Tried a bit of ham cheese and tomato pita bread and was horrible. Things I would normally love taste vile, I really hope it stays that way forever haha. Try to have a variety of shakes and sugar, free jelly, different stuff to make smoothies when you come home from hospital. All the things I drank a lot of the first couple of weeks I can’t stomach now. They ones I switched up often I have no problem with now.
  21. That is how much of the small intestines they bypass. 100-150cm is what my doctor said he normally aims for. 200cm seems extreme. Shorter length Without being a doctor and only watching them on tv haha, I assume you absorb more from what you eat etc. going longer you risk malabsorption but I would also guess you might dump easier. My doctor did 100cm on me, first couple of weeks even this length dumping was crazy on liquid drinks like protein drinks, ensure drinks, up and go’s. Last 4 weeks has been really good until I drank an up n go too fast and instantly dumped it. I go Tuesday to check my vitamins to make sure I am absorbing enough. Here a link from one of the melbourne clinics that explain touch on length a tiny bit. http://www.melbournebariatrics.com.au/laparoscopic-gastric-bypass.html

Liquid diet day one pre op

Oooooh, totally different post op, for me anyway. I had no real hunger or desire to eat for at least a week post op. Getting your Water in will be your top priority and with the tiny sips you are going to be taking, you will be sipping all day long. sugar free ice pops and italian ice were both great post op because you sort of chewed something. Good luck....before you know it, it will be a memory.
  23. I was wondering if any of you were able to successfully visualize your thinner self before you had the surgery or soon after surgery? 1 week pre-op and I'm struggling with what my slimmer body will look and feel like. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hotel Part 2

I experienced a lot of stomach gurgling yesterday. Leah, who got sleeved at the same time as me, said she did not which is another indication that everyone experiences everything differently. She experienced lots of gurgling the day before on ice chips. I was too chicken to take my drugs last night with my stomach acting out of sorts. We got a few pain pills, which I don't need but I am keeping "just in case" (the gurgling was uncomfortable but not painful and was only accompanied with liquids I was trying to ingest). Antibiotics and something for my stomach which I believe is acid reducer. I'll try the drugs today. Not sure why my stomach was all gurgling. Could be that I took the nasty leak test, followed by a popsicle, followed later by some broth, followed later by some super sweet apple juice (all in little amounts but my tummy was letting it all be heard). I was pretty active yesterday once we hit the hotel. I sat by the pool just to get some sunshine and enjoy the beautiful weather (too cold for pool but nice for sitting). Then I took a cab and went to a place to get a pedicure that the hotel bell hop recommended that was close by called Soleil. It was super close to the hotel and I could have walked but because I was unfamiliar with the area I thought it best to take a cab. I'm going back today and I will most likely walk. While I was there I had my eyebrows waxed and upper legs waxed. All three things cost approximately $50 total american. Totally worth it. You get a 10% discount if you mention you are from the hotel. Leah and her friend braved the traffic walking and went to a Starbucks and a convenience store where she got some Gatorade (I'll go get some this morning at some point). I am also getting my teeth whitened today. It is something I've always wanted to do. I'll post about that when I am finished. I tried to be on a semi normal sleep schedule that first night just to get my body back into the routine. I went to bed at 8:30 p.m. which is a little short of my normal 10 p.m. bedtime. I am up at 5 a.m. so I would consider that pretty normal (normally I am up by 6 a.m. at home). I slept in all different positions last night without any problem. Normally I sleep on my side but I woke up in the middle of the night on my stomach. The main incision on my left is hurting a bit but nothing too horrible. The beds don't have a fitted bottom sheet (it has a flat bottom sheet) so with all my tossing and turning at night (which is normal for me) I managed to rip off the bottom sheet and expose the mattress. That is annoying. I wish I had thought to bring compression socks with me for the flight home. I am worried about blood clots the most. I think I would add that to any packing list people are making from this point on. Also I would have had my larger bills broken up into smaller ones. I've been running into some problems trying to make change or not having small bills for tipping. I could have lived without a robe. The night nurse at the Florence Hospital gave me a second gown that I would use as a robe while I was there. Since I don't wear robes at home I might leave the one I purchased here at the hotel and save some packing space. As I think of more stuff I will post.
