Burping when eating

Eating to fast. My husband eats very slowly but when he eats faster he burps. I never burp, so also it must be an individual thing. I try so hard to slow down my eating. Three years later, my husband still puts down his fork between bites.

Hi ppl (Worries)

I had mine Sept 23rd. I have lost 31 pounds so far. I stall for a few days not loosing anything and I was told this is perfectly normal! A lot of it depends on your intake and your activity levels. I still am unable to get all my Fluid or Protein "goals" into me but I make sure to exercise! Your not alone! It will happen all in good time! Be patient and keep healthy.
3. The pre-op and fou stage post-op phases are as effective as a detox. You have flushed a lot of sugar, salt, and grease out of your system. Meds may be affecting your taste buds, too. The first time I ate a french fry, at about five weeks, I gagged. Clearly, it wasn't the potato I went for, it was the salt and the grease. At the processing plant, McDonald's fries are dipped in a corn-based sugar solution before packaging. Same goes for Long John Silver's Battered Fish. I ate the fish so that I could have the greasy, salty batter. No wonder our food tastes differently post-op. We are eating in a purer and more natural form, closer to the way food is supposed to taste without all of the additives and condiments that we add to it. Seriously, I had to learn to eat all over again so that food is for nutrition and not entertainment and comfort.
4. I'm 12 weeks out & I remember thinking so many things either tasted weird, bad or were just unsatisfying to my taste buds during the first 2months. At 3 months now, I will say many things taste quite good! My tastes have changed & I find myself craving healthier foods. What a gift in itself!!! I do make sure to have a small bite or 2 of things that look delicious, so I'm not depriving myself--I used to either indulge or deprive. I've found so much balance since the sleeve. Good luck!

Driving?

2 weeks after, but could probably do that sooner.
6. Alright Twins we are almost 1 week out and just wondering how everyone is doing/feeling and do you have any new full liquid ideas???? Well I was released from the hospital on Tuesday night, thinking OMG what did I do to myself, but as the days have gone by times are definitely easier. This morning I woke up to almost no pain. My only issue is that I was allergic to the tape that they used on the incisions.
7. Chantel

Protein supplements

My surgeon actually recommended it for the first 3 weeks post-op.
8. I was in your shoes a week ago. Had my surgery on Monday, July 30 and am doing great! I won't lie, you'll be pretty uncomfortable the first night. I've had numerous surgeries so wasn't too afraid about the actual process. You'll do fine. Good luck!
9. Ugh! I am so upset with myself. I was sticking to my liquids and finally being able to take down a protein shake without vomiting but today is my little brothers birthday and we went out to eat. I tried to find something of soup consistency but found nothing and ended up eating a chicken wing (without the breading of course). But I just feel bad! The effects of my mistake haven’t hit me yet but I wish I wouldn’t have done it. Has anyone slipped up like this, this early on (I’m almost 2 weeks post-op)? I finally was able to get my appetite back which was why I was able to even look at the chicken. But it’s just so hard being around others who can eat solid foods when you can’t!!
10. I've been off the site a while... Busy living and loving life. I had surgery June 9, 2014. My goal was to lose 70 pounds. I hit that at 5-1/2 months out. I never dreamed I could even hit it, but I followed the food plan, worked out 4-5 times a week, walked all over my town and here I am now, 9 pounds lower than my goal. I went from a size 16/18 jean to a 4 (baggy now -- think I'm going to have to go find some 2's). My brain is still trying to catch up with the weight loss. When I buy clothes I struggle with picking up that small shirt or medium, take both in the dressing room and almost always walk out with the small. I lost over 60 inches between my bust, waist, hips and thighs. I feel like so much in my life has completely changed. I have a new boyfriend who is active and very fit -- instead of huge meals together we eat reasonably and go for long walks together (power walking around the mall with all this snow). And we're taking swing lessons and go out dancing 2-3 hours every Friday and Saturday night. That counts as exercise, too and I would have never had the stamina to do that before. I hit the gym 4-5 times a week still -- worked out with a trainer for a while to learn lots of body weight exercises and other weight lifting programs, so I can build up muscle. I ran two 5k runs back in the late fall... will do that again this year. Signed up for a 5k mud/obstacle run with friends this spring (I know -- crazy). I feel like I've gotten a new lease on a happier, healthier life. No more sleep apena (after about the first 25 pounds), never any reflux. I enjoy the food I eat and the body I have. This Christmas I was a model for the fashion show my surgeon puts on at his holiday party for former and prospective patients. This surgery was a life-saver for me. I know they say the surgery works on the stomach but not the brain, but I'm pretty sure my bariatric surgeon did some brain surgery, too! Just wanted to share!

EXERCISE? LIGHT WEIGHT LIFTING?

You should check with your surgeon's office, but generally waiting for 6 weeks is required. Best wishes.

EXERCISE? LIGHT WEIGHT LIFTING?

Light weight lifting...like 5-10 pound arm weights while you're sitting down won't hurt you right now. I was fully back into a gym routine at 5 weeks, but I feel as if at 2 weeks my incisions were still pulling a bit and any real type of lifting might have been uncomfortable. Let your body be the judge...if it hurts, don't do it.
13. Hi, My name is Gigi. I am considering WLS and have been doing research on the lap band and VSG. I went to a seminar on 8/19 thinking I wanted a lap band and realized it was not really a good option for me. I have a lot of allergies and do not think the idea of putting a foreign object in my body a good one. As a result, I have been thinking about the VSG. I am 5?7?, around 282 lbs with a BMI around 45; I also have asthma, high-blood pressure and moderate to sever sleep apnea? so I am a good candidate. I still have some concerns especially as I have never had to have an operation. I?m scared! My insurance covers the procedure but I have to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet and exercise plan. I am mainly considering this procedure to improve my health before I add more complications to the mix. Looking better is just a plus. I have been reading the entries on here for while so most of my questions about complications and results have been answered. I am still interested in knowing if there are any major restrictions to exercising after the procedure. I have always been a big girl ? size 14 in high school, while all my friends were size 9 -10 ? and extremely active. I have taken dance lessons most of my life and even when I was in a dance troop where I was dancing 6 days a week, I was never smaller than a size 12/14. So what I am interested in knowing is ? after the procedure do you lose your muscle? When you lose all that weight, is your skin extremely lose that you require surgery to correct? Do you know if I will be called for my initial appointment before I start the dr supervised diet and exercise plan or is that something that typical takes place after you have your initial appointment? Has anyone had there VSG done at Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York? That is where I would be getting my surgery if it proves viable for me. Thanks for any information! It is greatly appreciated.
14. I had my surgery on May 9th..first couple of days were rough..I couldn't do anything by myself because of gas pains and port pain..as the days went on it got better..I have went back to work this week with no problems...I am on soft foods this week...waiting for my two weeks to be up(my surgeon said so) so I can go work out with a fitness trainer..I went out with friends last night to Celebrate a friend birthday...this is a before picture from February and a picture taken last night..I am staying positive and happy that I made my choice for the surgery. Hope all the May bandsters are all doing well and those that are waiting for surgery you are making the right choice. .god bless

Anyone still not hungry?

Hi Bandista I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I know everyone is different but how was your energy level at this point.

Who had revsion more than 4 years ago?

I am 3 years and 4 months post op so not quite 4 years yet. My situation is probably different from most people. I had a severe spine injury before the revision surgery. I can't exercise very much to help burn calories. So now I have leveled off. I haven't lost any weight in over a year but I haven't gained any either. I eat everyday until I'm full. I don't deprive myself of any food that I want. Breakfast is usually a small amount of cereal with fruit in it, or a bowl of watermelon or some other tasty fruit, or sometimes I skip the food, and drink something with protein. Or I'll have bacon and eggs and toast. Or French toast with butter and syrup. During the day I'll snack on vegetables or cheese or fruit or almonds. Maybe half a sandwich. I can eat a small portion of steak and about a quarter of a baked potato with butter and sour cream and a couple spears of asparagus. I love seafood. Any food that I want. The good thing is that I can't eat very much of it. I don't feel any discomfort unless I eat too much then there is a nausea kind of sick feeling and some pain from my abdomen for about a half hour until some of the food digests then I feel normal again, so I don't overeat anymore. I don't like that feeling. I still eat the same portion size but sometimes I still feel hungry after the meal so I will drink some water and that stops the hunger immediately. So far I haven't had any issues with the surgery. I had a very painful post-op recovery for about a week but now my stomach feels good. I haven't been to the weight loss surgeon for 2 years, but I do see my other gastroenterologist regularly for other problems, and he has checked me out through an upper GI endoscopy twice since the revision, and says everything looks fine. I think differently about food. Socializing with family and friends used to be a whole lot of eating. Now it's more talking and sipping on a beverage. Wine or Tea and even a margarita or a Jack and Coke. This surgery is dangerous. You need to really think about it and make sure it's right for you. I'm glad that I had it but I really wish that I could have solved the problem on my own. I know that there are quite a few people that have had a nightmare experience with this and I feel bad for them, but for me it has turned out very positive so far. I will need to have upper endoscopy's every 3 years for the rest of my life. Not because of this revision but for something else. My stomach acid has an effect on my other problem so this surgery has helped with that also. I also have to take a nexium pill everyday for the rest of my life. These are issues that I already had prior to the sleeve surgery, and were considered co-morbidity problems that were the main reasons for my insurance company approving the revision. Good luck to you.
18. Me too. I got the call last Friday. They want my Primary care dr to treat it. I'm seeing him Saturday but picked up some D in the meantime. I was diagnosed with D deficiency two years ago, too. The teatment is fairly simple... Prescription for a week or so and admonition to keep taking your vitamins. Also, sitting in the sunshine is supposed to help. I hope it's warm after my surgery. I plan to spend my recovery time reading on the deck and walking with my fat little dachshund (he needs some exercise, too).

Pre-surgery weight loss

I quit soda several years ago and I hate to be a downer but I gained 30 pounds in the 8 weeks after I quit. I spoke to my doctor and he said that it was because the caffeine was keeping my metabolism up. I'm by no means suggesting that you keep your Coke habit but if you don't drop or even increase you might have an idea why. For me dropping the carbs has been the key. During Thanksgiving and the few days after I had much more carbs and I didn't loose a thing. On Wednesday I went on a lower than usual carb diet (normally less than 35 now at 15) and I've dropped 3 pounds.

Post Surgery

My doctor told me to wait 2 weeks after surgery
21. I was doing the elliptical 3x a week for an hour and running 3x a week for 35 min (same days) until it got cold outside and had a hysterectomy. But I do still do the elliptical 3x a week for an hour..
22. I will be 3 months out on July 4th. So far I have lost 45 pounds but it takes a lot to lose...in my opinion. I must admit that I don't get in all my water most days. I am so forgetful when it comes to my vitamins but I am setting an alarm to start taking them better. I am stalking like 2 weeks at a time. Will I ever get back to losing rapidly? I want like 15-20 pounds a month...maybe I am not being realistic?

Weightloss...

After surgery, individuals loose weight at different rates. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So adhere to the program guidelines. Since you are at 3 months, there is one thing you might try if you haven't already. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on protein shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op. This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.

Anyone still not hungry?

Why are you only doing 500 cal /day? That seems so low. I had the band and plication and am a week post op and not hungry. I hope I am still like this in a few weeks!
25. Thanks everyone! I swear it took me 3 weeks to finish that thing. Everything is going well and I will be updating again soon! PS....yes...I walked back to my room. It wasn't far, trust me!
