Balloon Removed and Feelin' Fine! :-)
Sai replied to Wayward Traveler's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
@@Wayward Traveler Thank you, it's been quite a journey for me, first the lap band (2009), then the lap band to sleeve revision (just 2 months ago). I have to have restriction (cry hehe) which is why you're exceptionally inspirational to me. Keep up the great work! -
Would like to revise from band to sleeve but am concerned about this reflux issue. Even before having the band I had issues with acid reflux. I have it well under control now by taking omeprazol daily, but am concerned that with the sleeve the omeprazol won't be effective. Has anyone been ableto control their reflux succesfully by taking a ppi after VSG? Thnaks!

Hi everyone! I had the lap band in 2015 and thought I would be completely different within a year. I initially started to lose weight but even at the beginning felt like I shouldn't be able to eat as much as I could. I was constantly hungry and felt like I was starving all the time. I had several adjustments and even got to the max allowement then had to have it drained because I couldn't even drink Water.. It was aweful! My heaviest weight was 289.7 and I didn't even realize it! I seen a picture of myself and had no idea who that person was. I am 5'8 and have always been told that I'm curvy and look "good" so it never occurred to me that I was actually that big since I carry my weight well. Don't get me wrong, I knew I was a big girl but still felt like I wasn't that bad. My horrible motto and cop out was, "You can fix chubby but you can't fix ugly!" How horrible right?? Smh.. Well, I had pain, brusing on my belly button and could no longer hold down real food. But let me tell you that chips and candy went down super easy. I ate the big Reece's cups everyday! I felt like a complete and total failure and started feeling like everyone who loves me was being nice to me and telling me I was beautiful because they knew my heart. I am currently 33 and was 17 when my beautiful mother died and 19 when my amazing father died. I raised my 2 brothers and 1 sister when that happened and worked 3 jobs to make sure we had a roof over our heads. I sang in a band for many years and always felt like the fat girl. I even had a miscarriage 5 years ago that devastated me to the core. I was tired, and tired of being tired. Last week, October 19th I changed my life!! I had the revision to sleeve!! Let me tell you the honest raw uncut truth... I NEVER EXPECTED THIS! My amazing, supportive fiancé got me a scale yesterday as a surprise. I almost felt like maybe my doctor didn't actually do the sleeve since I don't notice any changes. I went into surgery at 281.7 and I weighed myself this morning at 262.4!!!!! I AM IN AWE!! I go to the doctor today for a follow up and am honestly in pain (mostly super tenderness) and man oh man do I want a cheeseburger.. Lol.. But this has been all worth it! I know that if I stay focused, stay connected, stay honest and give my all.. I will have amazing results! This site has been so inspirational. I have literally been reading stuff all night!! Haha.. I had to tell everyone a part of my story and really stay accountable. Thank you for reading my extremely long story. I hope that someone out there can relate and feel encouraged. Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon
Sai replied to boredswfl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had the band to sleeve revision by Dr. Bridget Holden in Colleyville, Texas. She was professional, straight forward and easy to ask questions. She removed the band and revised to a sleeve in an about an hour as outpatient. I was able to go home at 4 pm the same day. My recovery was incredibly easy after Day 1. I highly recommend her. -

As someone who just had a revision from a lap band to a bypass. I do not recommend the lap band! I had mine in for about 11 years. I developed acid reflux with the band and found the fill level to be variable. in the morning i had difficulty with getting Water down, by evening I could eat steak. Eventually it failed altogether and would not take a fill. No one told me when they put it in that it would eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Revision was the best decision I ever made. Just my 2 cents. Make sure you do your research. Many surgeons are no longer doing them because of the known issues (mine included). -
Never had a issue drinking Water after day 1... Fast or slow. Easy recovery here, but that worried me... Felt like I didn't have the surgery. I am a band to sleeve revision so things may be a little different for comparison purposes. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Sleeve to bypass revision tomorrow! Need advice and success stories
Bypassjourney replied to PortlandGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am having sleeve to bypass revision this Friday, 10/28! I was sleeved in January, 2012. I had great success for the first two years. Then between bad food choices and medication that causes weight gain, I gained it all back plus some. My acid reflux is bad and I have a hernia. I wasn't scared at all before but I must admit I have some fears this time around. -

Seeking Advice from other LB Vets
lisacaron replied to Who'sThere's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had some similar issues, I've had my band unfilled since June of this year. I have had several tests upper GI, CAT Scans, Barium swallow and all show the band is sitting pretty right where it should be. I have had several digestive issues which I had before WLS surgery, and these along with a bout of pancreatitis and sever emotional stress taking care of my father who passed in July, and now both my in laws..not to mention the full time job that was in the middle of a take over and 5 kids..who while "grown" present their own mash up of issues. So yeah...all of that...and more I could probably type for a week or more...caused a big upset internally for me. I was getting sick from everything I ate and even was avoiding food just so I would not get sick. Nothing wanted to stay put, even though it would all pass my band, after about an hour I was nauseated and sick. I had the band checked while I focused on my health and trying to find some stable ground again in my life. The band has no issues...I'm in a bit of a better place today with some relative stability and just peace of mind knowing there is nothing I can do about any of it and I just have to continue to rise and fall with the waves and occasionally I am going to get wet and I just have to accept it as what it is..let go and hope for the best. I think I am ready to have a little fill in there and try again. I can't understand why the surgeon would want to remove my band, if there is nothing wrong with it. I could do a revision after 6 months of healing, they told me but you know...why fix what's not broken...and surgery...not just one but two more? If I haven't lost the weight I wanted to with the band what makes me think I will with any other surgery? I haven't really given the band the full benefit of us working together toward that goal, I have been so busy focusing on other things. So I go tomorrow for a barium swallow, I haven't been sick in over a month now and I feel as though I am ready to focus on me and on this journey. I just can't see having 2 more surgeries, when there is nothing in there going on other than I am not using this tool to help me reach the goals I set for myself. So that's where I am sitting today. Now to get that barium swallow and set a goal and work toward it. -

I know this is an old thread but I had my Bypass on 11/2/15. I had a revision from a lap band to RNY, my insurance covered it, thank God! I'm 5'7" and my highest weight weight was 340. I now weight 152. Two more pounds and I will be in the normal weight for my height. It's been amazing! I haven't had any complications. I hope you all are doing great! Hearburn/reflux is a very well-documented side effect of sleeve surgery, whether you are having a revision from lap band or this is a first bariatric procedure. If you have a hiatal hernia, see if your surgeon can repair it during your sleeve surgery. This is a very common cause of GERD and having it repaired can make a huge difference. I had occasional GERD prior to my sleeve surgery, my surgeon fixed it during my sleeve surgery and no GERD since. Many sleevers take a PPI such as omeprazole or Protonix for several months after surgery -- talk to your surgeon about this. If you already have GERD and it is not caused by a hernia or some other repairable deformity, then gastric bypass may be something you want to consider. Sleeve surgeries can cause or worsen GERD but bypass cures it something like 98% of the time.

Getting more nervous everyday
this sucks replied to simpsongrad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck and best wishes to you this week! I was revised from LapBand on the 18th. It hasn't been all smooth sailing because of the hernia, removal and other repair work done but it's getting better each day. Glad the band is gone forever Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am getting a band to sleeve revision next month and I was wondering if anyone still gets heartburn after their sleeve operation. My friend that was sleeved last December says that she sometimes wakes up literally choking because of the stomach acids coming up at night. Does this happen to anyone? What causes it and how do I prevent it? Thanks

Approved for conversion to bypass!

I agree that it would be really nice to have a revision group or something along those lines for sleeve to bypass. Maybe @@Alex Brecher could look into it and see if we could add a category? My surgery is just around the corner, and I can't wait to get relief. Three days to go! Please keep me posted on how everyone is doing! -

Pictures... Before and after only 5 months out
mmy replied to mmy's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
He said there is less risk of bleeding and leakage with MGB compared to sleeve. Which was true yet I had major bleeding issue after the surgery.. he said its reversible which I'm not sure of because some doctors now say it is and some say it's not! He said MGB is not associated with more malabsorption compared to RNY and sleeve .. and there is no need for life long supplementation and the only people that require life long supplementation are those who had a dueodenal switch. Obviously I came to know that that's not true! He said MGB causes a weight loss of around 60% of excess body weight which is the same as sleeve but has a better long term maintenance.. the first part wasn't true as I came to find out that MGB causes more weight loss than sleeve and RNY He did not tell me of the fact that I will no longer be able to absorb iron! Last but not least I started off with a BMI of 33.. now almost 6 months out I'm at a BMI of 23.9 and weigh 56 kg. I need to stop my weight loss but I'm struggling with that.. I am following up with a new doctor now and might need either a revision or a reversal soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
