  1. Well better a little - had to get the food back out around 10:30 (4 hours after eating). It just wouldnt' really go down. Really exhausted today but sticking with liquids for the day as you suggested to give my stomach a break and tried warm tea for Breakfast to help with nausea. Didn't really help yet so I took a Zofran which did. Working from home again and hoping working from the couch / resting will help.

    Couple recipe ideas

i loveeeee Carmelized Onion Hummus loved it before and still now dont do plain hummus ever any more! i am a massive fan of spinach and chinese cabbage I chop that up in everything stir fry, casseroles etc whatever a veg goes in I add it lol pretty much any veg is good for me I recently found a lentil bean spinach curry recipe loveeddd it (we have all the spices to hand always in the cupboard so its easy to just make a curry if I find something I like lol) so after the first time I then made enough to freeze 6 batches of it for the family half with lamb as it’s a earthy taste and half without. I can link it too its off that site lol Only I added red, green, brown lentils and I put whatever Beans I like din it always have tins of beans and never just put one type in anything. You can also add other veg if you like of course http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Spinach-Red-Lentil-and-Bean-Curry/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 also like to make these sesame parmesan zucchini I de seed it as the seeds can be bitter a lot of the time and no one likes that http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sesame-Parmesan-Zucchini/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 made these and actually used them to eat the lentil curry with lol like a veggie cracker if you will broccoli parmesan fritters http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2012/06/broccoli-parmesan-fritters/ make this a lot too I tend to now make a massive batch again and bag it up and freeze it easy to digest and its good hot or cold in the lettuce http://www.spoonforkbacon.com/2012/01/chicken-lettuce-wraps/ I made these but used roasted red pepper pesto instead though I like all 3 pestos my mother is not a fan of green normal pesto lol I also egg washed them and planko coated them with some garlic and onion powder in the planko for flavour http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pesto-Cheesy-Chicken-Rolls/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 these are some of the things I like to do..

  5. My current BMI is slightly lower than the required 40 - it's about 39.9. I have no significant weight-related diseases, apparently PCOS doesn't count. The hospital's dietician says that I have to lose some weight prior to the operation to show them I can, or something like that. She also assured me that the surgeon won't deny me just because I lose weight, on the contrary, and that I will still be qualified for the operation. The problem is she doesn't cut the cheque, if you know what I mean. I suspect that she can make those promises because she doesn't decide on funding. My fear is that if I lose the tiniest bit of weight the universal health care in my country (Israel) won't agree to pay for the surgery. Suppose I lose 10 lbs, then the insurance denies me - I will regain that weight eventually anyway as I did in all past attempts. I will get screwed twice - no operation, same large number on the scale. Should I take her advice or disregard it?

    Great Fill doc in Baytown

My experience has been pretty positive so far...I had my first fill 10/6, and I can't eat much, but I am losing, so am liking that...

    Too Tight or Just Right

I have trouble knowing when to get a fill - the minute I get one I think it is too tight but last time I stuck with it and after a couple of week felt better - it is tempting to get an unfill right after a fill because it feels like you can't eat anything but I have finally learned it gets a little looser after the swelling goes down. I have a Realize Band that I think holds 10 cc's and I think I am not quite half filled so about 4.75 cc's and feels pretty good. I get stuck sometimes and have to throw up occasionally which is bad but sometimes you think you can take one more bite and that does it . I am losing weight very very slowly and it is depressing - I guess what is hard is that I wanted it all to come off in my stomach and it seems to be coming off everywhere BUT my stomach - maybe it will be the last thing to go - I guess as long as it goes down eventually I shouldn't complain but I am only down about 15 and am almost 5 months post-op. very slow.

    Bad surgery day stories

My surgery day was really bad. First the nurse who did my IV didn't do it right. It was painful when any medication went through it. I tried to tell the anesthesia people this, they said the medication burns but it wasn't a burn. After surgery I woke up with the oxygen mask on my face and freaked out. For some reason the oxygen mask makes me feel like I can't breathe. I go up to my room after all of 10 minutes being awake in recovery and I'm immediately bombarded with 2 nurses, a respiratory therapist, interns, residents, etc. The gas was so bad I thought I was going to explode. Trying to get in and out of the hospital bed was an absolute nightmare. They took me down for the barium swallow which was fine. Then the person who did it wheeled me out of the room and left me sitting in the waiting room with outpatients while waiting for transport and never told me was just leaving me there. I get back to my room and the IV really starts hurting. The night nurse looked at it and there was a big bubble on my hand and they FINALLY took it out and put another one in. I was not allowed to sleep for more than 5 minutes without being bothered by someone. Absolutely awful. The same week I got readmitted to the other hospital my surgeon works out of and it was great. I should've had my surgery there in the first place probably.
  9. lollymoe, thanks for the reply, i am walking now. my girls run me ragged at the mall! i'm just now feeling well enough and am off pain meds so i can get out to walk. hoping to bump it up to aerobics when my doc gives the o.k. i am very anxious as i started preparing for this surgery 10 months ago. have you had alot of success? are you glad you made this decision? i hope so. this has worked for many. take care,lisa6
  10. If a miracle skin suck machine is developed so I can sleep in it at night and wake up taut and back in my 25 year old body, I'll look at the BMI chart. But as long as I am hauling around 10 pounds of excess skin I'll shoot for my own goal. Any brainiacs here? If so, get to work on that skin suck machine pronto.

  12. I'm 7 days out and on clears till 10 days. For the second time I tried unjury unflavored in a cup of warm soup and, man, it went right thru me! No other probs with soups. The only other thing it could have been is that the beef broth I tried with it tonight doesn't agree? But if I'm handling chicken broth fine that seems strange. No probs with my protein shakes mixed with water, including unjury. Anyone else experience this? Trying to deduce if it's the unjury or the soup, lol. Argh.

    Acid Reflux

I am not sure who said it but absolutely call the doctor. Prescriptions are so much better for you and stronger. You can't risk prolonged heartburn as it causes erosion in your esophagus. I have been on Prevacid prescription for 10 years and take it every morning on an empty stomach. Will likely take it for the rest of my life. You have to take extra calcium when on it long term but you have to do that anyhow with the sleeve so just call, it has really no side effects and the pain is gone for good.

    TMJ Pain

I've had it in the past. Not as bad as you, but I had it and thought it was a wisdom tooth. So did the dentist and he pulled the wisdom tooth and swore that would put an end to my pain. 3 days later the pain came back and I know it wasn't the wisdom tooth. I had a massage therapy friend massage it for several days in a row and that helped tremendously. Now whenever it gives me a little trouble I massage the joint for 10 minutes or so.

    Drivers license

I am laughing that I just commented on this a few days ago and last night the lady at the bank asked me for my license. First off my picture that is on mine license was taken after I was in a car accident and was still recovering from breaking almost every bone on my right side. I was still very much swollen as well as being heavy. I covered some bruising around my nose with makeup. I swelled probably about 10-15 lbs on top of the 265 I was(now 188). Now on with the story, she asked to see my license, she looked at it and me a few times. After she paused I told her I recently lost a huge amount of weight. She checked my signature a few times and it matched so she did the transaction. I didn't think that I looked so different until this. Maybe it is time to drop the extra $20 and get a picture taken?!?!? Still laughing and debating!

    Delivery and a band

I just had a child 5 months ago and 2 years ago with a band in and had no problems. They let the fluid out as soon as I found out so the baby would get as much nutrition as possible. The band caused very little problems through the whole pregnany and delivery. I waited 10 months after the surgery to get pregnant and still had no problems.
  18. I think all your issues are normal. Are you drinking Protein shakes and eating sugar free things? All of those things give me terrible gas. The Protein Shakes make me so gassy. I'm not against them, I would just rather get my protein from meat or "normal" as opposed to drinking the gassy shakes :-) You're 10 days post op? You're most likely still swollen from surgery which is why you can feel that discomfort in your chest. Honestly, you'll always feel things pass through your band if you take too big of a bite or gulp your drink. Diarrhea is sooo normal. Once you start eating solid foods it should get better. I had the same problem. Life will get so much better. I didn't feel normal for a good 2 weeks. My recovery was long. And I regretted the surgery a few times. Now, I'm not looking back! The weight is coming off and it makes everything worth it.

    upset

40 lbs is a good loss but most doctors will let you get to a 2 lbs loss a week before they. Get stingy with fills. Mine is tight with filling... Often I had to beg for them and several times I was denied because I had lost 8-10 lbs that month. Why not go into the office and have a good conversation with the dr... Tell him you got the band to have a tool and you believe with a fill it will be more effective. Not going isn't good.... That's how people get off track so try it one more time and be Prepared with every thing you are doing... So he knows you are doing your part like tracking food, portions, calories etc. Good luck

    Please Help! :(

I was sleeved on 10/1. And am a PCOS girl too... My biggest reason for surgery was to try to have a baby. I completely feel you! I have lost about 10 pounds since surgery but have stalled over the last week totally. I didn't expect to see the stall so soon. I knew it would happen eventually... But if I add back calories at all I gain weight. It's scary for me. I walk 2-3 miles several days a week also, and eat/drink around 400 calories per day. It's amazing to me that with so few calories I'm not dropping the weight faster. The doc is ok with my loss so far though. He says to make sure I am getting enough fluids and I try to get a min if 64 per day. And 80-100g protein. How are you doing on fluids and proteins??
  21. Just checking in, really trying to stay consistent on the forums here seems to help me stay accountable. I am 22 months post op and was doing great at my lowest (although still not my goal), then i gained 10 lbs during a SUPER stressful two semesters of grad school and starting a new job, and switching that job from days to nights, and just life in general. Because I haven't seen my surgeon in about 9 months and didn't have the option to see my usual nutrition clinician (new insurance doesn't cover their services), I took the steps today to make an appointment with my surgeon in June AND called for a NUT appointment with the bariatric clinic in a nearby town that my insurance covers. I had every intention of starting a 5 day pouch test too, but having just accepted a huge promotion in my new job, my coworkers are giving me a big giant potluck tomorrow night and even though I'll eat healthy, i didn't want to stand there with a shake and turn my nose up at their efforts. So, 5 day pouch reset starting sunday night... I would love any input as far as pouch test success, getting back on track, etc. I currently have 10 lbs to get back to my lowest, and about 25 to my goal!! I CAN DO THIS.

I'm going alone in 10 days. Many people go alone and feel totally safe. I'm not worried about the plane ride back because I'm in Phoenix and my flight will only be about an hour and a half. Probably won't be the most comfortable, but at least it will be short. Good luck with your surgery.
  24. Okay almost 7 years ago I started having a debilitating pain in my left knee and down the outside of my left leg. It would go down my leg and into my foot. The pain on a scale of 1-10 was a 20! Nothing helped it or made it ease up. I saw an orthopedic doc who said I had patello femoral knee pain in my knee and I needed physical therapy. So I did PT on and off for years. Finally in 2005 the pain became unbearable and I had surgery on my knee. The doc never said that my knee was making my leg hurt but since I kept complaining with my leg and he kept talking about my knee I just Assumed they were connected. Well I had the surgery and my knee was doing great but my leg was still KILLING me. That's when he told me that they were NOT related at ALL and that he felt I had a pinched nerve in my back that was making my leg hurt so badly. Since then I've seen 2 neurologists, 1 neurosurgeon, a Rheumatologist, 2 more orthopedic docs besides the one I have, my family doc and a Physical Medicine doc. I've had an MRI of my leg, knee and low back. I've also had an EMG which was good. The physical med doc said he felt that the MRI wasn't telling the whole story and I that have a pinched nerve and it's just not showing up on the MRI. He wanted to do an epidural steroid injection. I got pregnant after that and couldn't do it. Now here I am. My baby is 6 months old. EVERY SINGLE TIME I walk a lot I go to bed with a horrible pain in my leg:( Rather it's walking on my treadmill or just walking a lot b/c I'm out shopping. The only thing that helps is to take Vicodin OR a sleeping pill so I can at least sleep through the night but I can't take either with a baby in the house. I'm 30 years old and I'm tired of having this pain. It holds me back so much! Should I just go ahead and schedule the Steroid Injection or what? I've spent a lot of time and money on this not to have definite answers. I see my Lap Band surgeon again in 2 weeks and I'm going to go over all of this with him and see what he says also. It actually depresses me:(
  25. I am surprised you are eating crackers so soon. I would not have been able to touch them until I was 10 weeks and even then crackers, bread and bread like products actually make me feel like my tummy is clogged, I don't dump but the wrong foods can make me miserable and once that happens, I am shot for the day. I get pain in my chest right below my breastbone when I eat or drink too fast. Not sure if this is what is driving it but honestly it would be my best bet. Are you able to get fluids in now? Or is that coming up? Fluids might help push it down.
