    Anyone still not hungry?

Hi Bandista I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I know everyone is different but how was your energy level at this point.

Who had revsion more than 4 years ago?

I am 3 years and 4 months post op so not quite 4 years yet. My situation is probably different from most people. I had a severe spine injury before the revision surgery. I can't exercise very much to help burn calories. So now I have leveled off. I haven't lost any weight in over a year but I haven't gained any either. I eat everyday until I'm full. I don't deprive myself of any food that I want. Breakfast is usually a small amount of cereal with fruit in it, or a bowl of watermelon or some other tasty fruit, or sometimes I skip the food, and drink something with protein. Or I'll have bacon and eggs and toast. Or French toast with butter and syrup. During the day I'll snack on vegetables or cheese or fruit or almonds. Maybe half a sandwich. I can eat a small portion of steak and about a quarter of a baked potato with butter and sour cream and a couple spears of asparagus. I love seafood. Any food that I want. The good thing is that I can't eat very much of it. I don't feel any discomfort unless I eat too much then there is a nausea kind of sick feeling and some pain from my abdomen for about a half hour until some of the food digests then I feel normal again, so I don't overeat anymore. I don't like that feeling. I still eat the same portion size but sometimes I still feel hungry after the meal so I will drink some water and that stops the hunger immediately. So far I haven't had any issues with the surgery. I had a very painful post-op recovery for about a week but now my stomach feels good. I haven't been to the weight loss surgeon for 2 years, but I do see my other gastroenterologist regularly for other problems, and he has checked me out through an upper GI endoscopy twice since the revision, and says everything looks fine. I think differently about food. Socializing with family and friends used to be a whole lot of eating. Now it's more talking and sipping on a beverage. Wine or Tea and even a margarita or a Jack and Coke. This surgery is dangerous. You need to really think about it and make sure it's right for you. I'm glad that I had it but I really wish that I could have solved the problem on my own. I know that there are quite a few people that have had a nightmare experience with this and I feel bad for them, but for me it has turned out very positive so far. I will need to have upper endoscopy's every 3 years for the rest of my life. Not because of this revision but for something else. My stomach acid has an effect on my other problem so this surgery has helped with that also. I also have to take a nexium pill everyday for the rest of my life. These are issues that I already had prior to the sleeve surgery, and were considered co-morbidity problems that were the main reasons for my insurance company approving the revision. Good luck to you.
  5. Me too. I got the call last Friday. They want my Primary care dr to treat it. I'm seeing him Saturday but picked up some D in the meantime. I was diagnosed with D deficiency two years ago, too. The teatment is fairly simple... Prescription for a week or so and admonition to keep taking your vitamins. Also, sitting in the sunshine is supposed to help. I hope it's warm after my surgery. I plan to spend my recovery time reading on the deck and walking with my fat little dachshund (he needs some exercise, too).

    Pre-surgery weight loss

I quit soda several years ago and I hate to be a downer but I gained 30 pounds in the 8 weeks after I quit. I spoke to my doctor and he said that it was because the caffeine was keeping my metabolism up. I'm by no means suggesting that you keep your Coke habit but if you don't drop or even increase you might have an idea why. For me dropping the carbs has been the key. During Thanksgiving and the few days after I had much more carbs and I didn't loose a thing. On Wednesday I went on a lower than usual carb diet (normally less than 35 now at 15) and I've dropped 3 pounds.

My doctor told me to wait 2 weeks after surgery
  8. I was doing the elliptical 3x a week for an hour and running 3x a week for 35 min (same days) until it got cold outside and had a hysterectomy. But I do still do the elliptical 3x a week for an hour..
  9. I will be 3 months out on July 4th. So far I have lost 45 pounds but it takes a lot to lose...in my opinion. I must admit that I don't get in all my water most days. I am so forgetful when it comes to my vitamins but I am setting an alarm to start taking them better. I am stalking like 2 weeks at a time. Will I ever get back to losing rapidly? I want like 15-20 pounds a month...maybe I am not being realistic?

    Weightloss...

After surgery, individuals loose weight at different rates. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So adhere to the program guidelines. Since you are at 3 months, there is one thing you might try if you haven't already. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on protein shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op. This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me.

    Anyone still not hungry?

Why are you only doing 500 cal /day? That seems so low. I had the band and plication and am a week post op and not hungry. I hope I am still like this in a few weeks!
  12. Thanks everyone! I swear it took me 3 weeks to finish that thing. Everything is going well and I will be updating again soon! PS....yes...I walked back to my room. It wasn't far, trust me!
  13. I’m a couple of weeks away and I’m getting nervous. Will I ever be able to eat a couple of bites of birthday cake again? Will I forever only be able to eat two spoonfuls at a time? Will I ever enjoy an occasional (half) glass of wine again? Will I stick with it or will I be part of the 30% that regains the weight? Did others go through this?

    Omgosh I can't take this

I'm 3 weeks post op and have no issues drinking normally. I haven't tried to chug anything because it feels better to just drink normally.

    TMI question

I didn’t have any problems on my pre-op diet. However, for about a week after surgery it was bad! I only had one accident where I didn’t make it to the bathroom and it was in the hospital. All I have to say is never trust a fart [emoji16]
  16. I was just recently sleeved by Dr. Pilcher in the San Antonio area. I had the procedure done on June 1st, which was also my 23rd birthday. Happy birthday to me! I can't speak to the amazing weight loss benefits yet because I only just had surgery and am still very swollen, but I do like how I have not felt any hunger, or desire to eat. I have struggled with my weight since I was 8 years old, when I was first put on a diet. At that age, I would successfully diet for about 2 weeks at a time and then start sneaking food around my mom. This became my lifestyle, stolen moments with candy, chips, ice cream, and all fried/fatty goodies. I always found great comfort in food. After my father died, when I was a freshman in college, I knew I must do something or I would end up dead like him. I began dieting and lost about 120 pounds from my weight of 465. Sadly, I couldn't maintain the weight loss and ended up gaining all of the weight back and then some. So, at my heaviest of 501 pounds, I finally reached out to Dr. Pilcher. I weighed 484 at our actual first meeting, and then dropped an additional 18 pounds before surgery. Now, I am 4 days post-op and weigh 462 pounds. I cannot wait to see where the rest of this journey takes me! I love advice, y'all, so please feel free to share!

    TMI question

I had the Sleeve and the DS which would cause more pooping. I personally have not had any issues. Some foods will make you go more than others some become more lactose intolerant. You could keep track as you reintroduce food and if it gives you the runs then try it again after a few weeks.
  18. Well I had my first visit with Dr Woodmans Office yesturday I had to watch this boring video and go over what else I need before we send in to the ins comp. for approval. I thought I would have at least got to meet the Dr. But I only saw him on the video. My hisband and friend have both worked with him at Methodist Germantown but I think it would make a better impact if he meet his patient on the first visit I myself would rather ask him about any concern then his staff before I putting all this time into it if I had doughts. Anyways It went good alls my ins request is medical record ( which i took with me), a letter from my dr (which was faxed to them while I was there) the pshch and nutr. eval.:scared2: I have psych set up for wed. 4/8 but I am having a hard time finding the nutr. assessment. Anyone know of one in memphis or around the area that I can get into fast. I set up a appt with Dr Rice's office to find out once I got there that she did not do the assessment for psych because she was only a social worker and the Dr in the office that did it did not take my ins. I was so mad I asked every question and told them what I need when I mad the appt. So I went home and just started calling everyone on my ins list till I found Dr Amos. :cool2: He said he does this assessment for about all Dr woodmans pts. And I got a appt. for right away not weeks down the road. He spoke to me and set the appt up himself and email me all the 26 pages of paper work you fill out to do before the appt. which I thought was great. I hate sitting in a office filling out paperwork. He also told me he would have it to Dr woodman on that monday following my appt. I hope to find a nutr. soon my goal is to have everything I need to get sent off by 4/13. MY b-days in May and that would be the best b-day present ever to be able to have a date.. better yet have it done.... :tt2:
  19. Last Friday at 12:30pm I had my vsg procedure. Everything went smooth. I was walking within 30 minutes, and sipping Water. I was released around 6pm. The first evening was a bit painful from the gas, and I slept in a recliner. I was able to sip on more water. Day 2 similar in gas pain. Gas X and walking helped a lot. I have no issues getting 60 - 70 oz of liquids. I primarily drink water, but like the sugar free Popsicles, Jello and broth. My only issue now is lower back pain. I have an appointment with my pcp today, so I will inquire with her. I have no issues with getting in Protein. Right now I'm using EAS shakes (vanilla & chocolate), and typically in the morning I have a premier shake from Walmart. I like to start with premier because it has 30g of protein. I add GENEPRO Protein powder to broth, and have made up a blender concoction with it. My blender drink is ice, skim milk (3oz), genepro (tsp), and chocolate EAS shake. I am currently down 18lbs. This may sound like a lot, but my doctor didn't have the pre op diet. So I'm prepared for it to slow down soon. Height 6'7 SW 372 CW 354 GW 260 SW 372 GW 260
  20. They have no way of knowing until they actually go in. The 2 week or however long liquid diet or high protein no carb diet is to shrink the liver so the chances of it being too big are a lot less.
  21. Hi all! I decided to start sharing my story since I am coming from a totally different perspective than most, I am a registered and licensed dietitian! While I have battled weight all my life and I have all the knowledge I could imagine on eating healthy....I let my mind take over and ignored what was happening to my body. Never in a million years did I think that I would have WLS, but I did! I think the idea of the sleeve and removing the factor of malabsorption as in the bypass helped with my decision. While I was a very healthy obese person, I knew the consequences that would face me later in life if I didn't make a drastic change. In addition, my confidence as a dietitian became nonexistent. I needed to get my mojo back....so here I am 1 week out from surgery and overcoming the hurdles of recovery. I started at 285 pounds before preop diet and as of today I am 249! While my education tells me this can't be healthy, my mind and body know it's a necessity and I will ultimately reach a healthy goal. I love reading all your posts and support! This is truly a journey for all...I joke around that I am going to write a book because I am probably the only Registered Dietitian that had WLS! Lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. You will be amazed at the difference your weight loss makes. Tomorrow is my 4 week anniversary and it is night and day when I play tennis. Have you tried the Brooks Ariel or New Balance 1340? A strong motion control shoe with good shock absorbtion can help. You may need a different type of custom orthotic. There are many types and methods of creating customs. Best of luck!
  23. It's perfectly normal to be nervous and scared. If you weren't I would be worried about you. Now the chances of your liver being too big is very slim. Especially for women, it's more common for men. I've only seen one or two people on here say they couldn't get the band because their liver was too big. They did a couple more weeks on the liquid diet and they were good to go. They were both guys. You'll go great. Good luck and take care and let us know how it goes as soon as you can. Just go to www.tickerfactory.com select the weight loss, follow the instructions, then copy and past the url in your signature, and your'e good to go.

    Severe mood swings

a lot of women complain about moodiness the first few months. I'm not sure if there's actual medical research to back this up, but many people have said it's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when you lose weight quickly, a lot of that is released. Many women also report screwed-up menstrual cycles the first few months, so I suspect the hormone theory is probably correct. It should all work itself out though - it doesn't seem to last more than a few months - so you may be near the end of it. 45 lbs in 3 months is pretty good. It takes many of us about a year to lose 100 lbs, so you're doing just fine. as far as baggy, saggy skin - some of that will look better eventually because things seem to re-distribute a bit over time - but after a 100 lb weight loss, you'll inevitably have some saggy skin. I had a ton of it. I could easily hide it in clothes so no one knew it was there, but *I* knew it was there, so I had it removed when I was about three years out. So that's an option if you decide you can't live with it..
