  1. I am revising to a sleeve. Since I could not afford self pay and cant get insurance I managed to scrape up enough money to get the PCIP insurance ... They will cover revisions.. They did an upper gi and the lady asked me how in the world I was eating ? I told her not very well .My band has so much damage, scar tissue that liquids barely go through my band .. Doc told me there are ppl with band issues and then there is me ! Mine are bad basically . He told me to come back next week for and egd, they stick a tube down my throat to see if my ban d has erroded through my stomach , he suspected it has . Sounds all bad huh ? It is problem no one is in a hurry to get it fixed ! The insurance corrdinator is an idiot ! She was basically telling me my insurance most likely won't pay for anything when I know they very well will .. she really made me mad . She had never dealt with my insurance yet was telling me she didnt even know that PCIP was not through an employer I guess cause its not what I wanted to hear .. anyway I had a sleep study done to see if I have sleep apnea . So hopefully will know more in the next dayor so ?? he also told me if i dont revise to a sleeve because of my PCOS that with in 2 months of band removal i will gain back the rest of my weight and will contiune to regain about 30% more weight . HE also said due to the PCOS with out a sleeve i will get diebetes with in 5 yrs ! LOVELY ! All in all i was discouraged, Mainly because the insurance lady didntknow what she was talking about and it pissed me off. Im just not sure if this is par for the course or not ? Im not sure why i feel the way i do ?

    3 week slump

Just keep doing what you are supposed to. Your body will stall or pause while it re-calibrates itself. As long as you are hitting your metrics, getting your exercise and doing what you are supposed to be doing at 3 weeks... you'll be fine. Does your scale also do body fat? If not, it's entirely possible you are losing body fat but not weight, happened to me a few times already since my revision. The length varies from person to person, but just rest assured knowing it does pass! Just keep staying on target! You got this!

    MN - Duluth/Superior

Well, I'll be joining Team Revision on October 29th. Found out my lap band was leaking in July after trying to figure out why I was gaining weight despite still eating and exercising the same. Began the process of revision to the sleeve. Got the approval on September 15th. Looking forward to getting this weight off and getting my body back. Will have Dr. Bettendorf at Essentia Health in Duluth.
  4. I'm from Biwabik. Still trying to figure things out. My insurance will not cover this so trying to find someone that wants my money. Believe it or not some places don't take self pay for revisions-go figure.
  5. Welcome! I am having a revision on Monday and it was approved but I have Avmed. My surgeon wrote a letter as to why the revision was needed and it got approved quickly. I had my original RNY in 2004, lost 170lbs and over the course of the last three years have gained 53lbs back. Part bcuz of behavior and in part because I have a dialated anastamosis. This is a great support group and any worries or questions ask away!
  6. I’m getting a revision from sleeve to bypass next month. I’m a self pay. I went for pre op at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. I wanted to get the final price for my Hospital stay before I made a certified check to the hospital. At first they quoted me 6000.00 when I called they said they made a mistake and that was for a bypass the correct price was 8000.00. I said ok. When i was at pre op I asked the registration person about it . I told her i was gettin a conversion to bypass. She called her supervisor and she said it was 8 grand. She wrote this down and put the supervisor name on a paper and gave this to me. I was at work and i got a call saying no that was incorrect it was 10,500. I was upset. The lowered the price down to 9500.00 after they saw I was so upset. Would you take that lower figure or try to go for anything lower. Actually the person on the phone said we don’t quote prices . When in fact the supervisor that the registration person called that gave the 8grand figure was the person that is trying to tell me now that it’s really 10,500.00

    Anesthesia!????????????

Both times for my lap band and my revision to sleeve they gave me Versed after I told them I was afraid of the anesthesia. I don't even remember going into the operating room either time. I talked to the anesthesiologist and he told me that it's extremely rare for someone to wake up in the middle. They have all kinds of high tech gadgets monitoring your every response. He also told me if you have had surgery before and it didn't happen to you then, it won't in the future.

    Strange Question Lol.

My doctor's former nurse had a revision from band to sleeve early on, maybe 9 yrs ago. Hers was a 36 and she said she thinks she'd have been more sucessful had hers been smaller. She likes what she was seeing with a 32, she was also a nurse for another doctor here in Dallas, he did a 30 and she said there were problems more often with that size.

US vs Mexico sleeve size ?

That is me. I'm three years out and was pretty solid until last year where I've now gained and feel very little Restriction. I'm considering a revision

    Paper wok submitted but....

I talked to my MD office today and they want to wait to submit my ppw. I have a band so this will be a revision. I have done my psy visit and nut visit but I have only seen my surgeon once in the last year, my second appt will be on July 1st. Any other lap band to revision had to see the surgeon for x amount of visit to get approved. I have BCBS of Tx.
  11. Oh my gosh, thank you so much for sharing what people don't see when we say "we can't stand our bodies". So easy to hide behind clothes. You are an inspiration to me. I am new on here and so thankful I found it. I have learned more in one week about the band and others struggles then in the last 2 years of being banded. I felt so alone until now. There are thousands of you struggling and celebrating too. I just felt like I found a wealth of friends. I am going through a difficult time with my port revision and weight gain to lack of "the right fill". This site just may have given me a new reason to continue with the band. I was ready to tell the doctor to remove it because he is not listening to me. When you tell your doctor the awful pain you are feeling and the weight I have gained back you would think there would be a red flag!! CT Scan on Monday. Finally maybe some answers. I may not know you, but I sure am proud of you and you have just given me hope again. Thank you for being so brave and honest...we all need a bit of that sometimes. Please keep posting....
  12. Think you'll find consensus here. I just had my band revised to bypass. There is enough research out there now that says that bands don't work. My. Doctor has gone as far as saying Drs still doing it today should be sued for malpractice, because they know they don't work over the long run. Know 4 people removing them this week alone Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Any aussie rny people out there..

Hi all I'm from Perth.. Nice to see some fellow Aussies.. My doc said the same thing. If there is too much scar tissue he won't be able to do the revision on the day. I hoe it will be ok...I will be devastated if I have to wait.. My surgery was already cancelled once already.
  14. I was banded June 3rd 2010 I have lost 120 lbs to date how is everyone else doing! I had a minor set back when I had port revision surgery in July to place a smaller low profile port. I'm finally back on track and losing weight again!
  15. Well my 6 month pcp visits will be over in Oct. (Would have been Sept. But my doc stop airlift fridays the date if my July appt which made me miss that month). The scheduler will be pulling my PCP records and submitting everything in month 5(Sept.) I should have a date by then. I left a message that I need to talk to my surgeon beforehand because I want the sleeve. To me she has some explaining to do to why she won't do it and I have no signs if reflux until she said I had it. There was another doctor I was looking into in the beginning and I may have to goto him for a second opinion. He's head of the board of directors for surgery and he performs them in another town. I don't want all this work to be for nothing. Bon Secours health system is the only one I found in the Hampton Roads Virginia area that has No program fees. I just paid $120 for 6-1hr personal training sessions. Surgeons affliated with other hospitals here feel that the sky is the limit on what they can charge you for their 'package'.....Obesity is a Billion dollar industry these days isn't it? Plus I'm leaving the state in May 2014 and I don't have time to jump through all these hoops to get approved again....mind you I have more than enough ailments now, two stents in my heart....at 31yrs, bmi of 61, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and just found in March that I'm a diabetic. So I really need this. Not saying I'm going to take anything they give me but we will have to talk. I didn't even know that people can revised the sleeve to the bypass until I started coming here. Just wish me luck! No matter what I'm going to be okay.
  16. Hi katybelle7, Thanks for the response. Yes, I'm very nervous about my first meeting with the surgeon. I hope my age is not an issue, I've worried about that, too. At this point, all he knows is my name, age and insurance info. He has no knowledge of my extensive past history with the Molina Band and that's what I'm really afraid of. I haven't found anyone that's had a revision after having a band in place for 30yrs. I really dread the endoscopy and finding out what shape my stomach & esophagus are in. Thanks for the support. Salem/Mcminnville Oregon?

I went to a nurse practitioner here in Salem for a couple of lap band fills when I was still banded, and she knew of Dr Tersigni in Coos Bay, since I was asking about revisions, and she recommended him, however my insurance approved me to go to the OHSU bariatric surgery program for my emergency lap band removal, and after I completed their program to have the gastric sleeve done, my insurance wouldn't cover surgery there, and we appealed but nothing happened. So I was planning on going to Mexico again because I was desperate, but then I remembered Coos Bay, and when we called they were so helpful! Dr Tersigni has been performing weight loss surgery for over 15 years, and his program and facility have the Center of Excellence label. And his coordinators have been completely helpful through the process. And at the time we did not know of Dr Higa, or we would have checked him out too! Sorry that is such a long explanation!!

    Pouch reset

I think a lot of the answer lies here. Anything you do will be offset by this; eventually, your body will force you to not be hungry. On the list of survival mechanisms, it's pretty high up there. I'd honestly take a deep breath, look at this like another project to conquer, and start by giving my team where you had the surgery a call. Maybe your new set point isn't BMI 25, maybe you're doing really well by maintaining your weight where you are. Maybe you need a revision. Maybe not. All I know is that being permanently hungry never ends up being permanent. Fortunately.
  19. Hi everyone, I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to sleeve on December 2, 2019. I am 46 years old and have been significantly overweight since I was 20 years when I was pregnant with my daughter. I called this thread 'Weight loss 2.0' because my previous gastric sleeve was December 3, 2013. Looking back, I believed the surgery was the magic fix to all of my problems. At first I had considerable success and dropped 100-120 lbs. Then, life happened - well bad things in life happened. I survived two violent attacks, the first in 2014 which left me with physical challenges, and then in 2015, after a sexual assault, I attempted suicide twice. It took me two years to get to a place of mental stability, but by then I regained my weight, plus more. In 2017, I began discussing with my doctor the prospects of having a revision surgery or bypass. For health reasons, the bypass is not an option. I discussed the options and decided I would not get back on the surgery table until I knew I was truly ready for change. What I have learned though, is that there will never be a moment when I will be truly ready, but it is about making a decision to change my life and working hard to do so. I am very good at self-sabotage and while awaiting my final doctor's visit to schedule surgery, I went over in my head all of the reasons I should and should not have the surgery again. After all, my first sleeve in 2013 was a failure and I stretched my sleeve to 2.5 times its size at surgery. There is a million little things that added up to me regaining weight, but I could not stop wondering if I had the fortitude to stick to it this time. All of the questions and doubts went away when I fell out of my shower two weeks ago yesterday. My spine is fused from C2-T1 and I handed on my back with my head and shoulders against the sink cabinet and the shower curtain rod jammed against the bathroom door. Short of the fire department tearing the door down, I had to find a way off the floor. It was early in the morning and my pride/embarrassment was too much to ask for help. Eventually I painfully got up off the floor. In that moment, I felt there is no reason at 46 years old I should not be able to get off the floor. I went to the emergency room to make sure I did not suffer any real damage and then decided to schedule my final appointment and pick a surgery date. I am teetering through excited and terrified because I have been down this road before. In my gut I know it will be different because I am in a different place and have already made changes to start my journey. To commemorate the start of my pre-op diet, I gave up coffee, sugar, snacks, all at once. For some reason last week, I kept eating things I figured I would never be able to eat again and then went cold turkey starting Monday morning. The lack of coffee and sugar alone makes me feel like crap all the time, but I am keep working at it and already lost 3.5 lbs this week. I had a protein bar today that somehow tasted like a mixture of cardboard and paper mache paste dipped in cocoa powder, which was some sort of scientific miracle that allowed it to be stamped as a food product. But it had 20 g of protein and 3 g of sugar. (definitely will not try that one again). For any other coffee addicts out there, I found that hot tea with dry non-dairy creamer (no sugar) is enough to trick my brain into thinking I had my usual coffee drip. The good news I no longer feel like I am losing my mind. The sugar substitutes are just not my thing. Fortunately, I love water and the many trips to the second floor bathroom have been a kick-start to my exercise regime - that is after many years of couch surfing. I found a 64oz water bottle that has times on one side and inspiration on the other, but I feel like I will start floating soon. I truly never realized how dehydrated I was, probably from the excessive amounts of coffee every day. I am less than 2 weeks away from surgery now and I am grateful that I have a sense of hopefulness, mixed with the reality of knowing that after surgery is when the hard work starts. A part of me is grieving too because I need to give up this life-long terrible relationship with food to live a fuller life. Thanks for reading and happy to be here to share my story. I look forward to learning more about other people here. Mya

Port pain how long and how much

did you had other symptom beside the pain, was it red or something? i've been band for 6 months, and if I sleep on my side of on my tumy, I need help to get out of bed in the morning and the pain is excruciating it can last a few days then go away for a few weeks then come back. I've notice that my scare is hurting as well even though the is changing color(fading away). I just saw my surgeon two weeks ago, I don't really want to go and see him again. + Im scared he would say I need port revision or something... is there ennyone in the same situation as me... Thanks Julie
  21. Just looking for some moral support and encouragement: I am unfilled and awaiting my revision surgery on March 14. I was unfilled on February 3 and have gained 13 pounds. I know how I did it. EAT EAT EAT...... However, The last week before the unfill I lost 10 pounds in about 6 days due to keeping nothing down. I know that is a very bad, unhealthy loss. shakes and Water were coming back up. I start each day with the best intentions, (LOL) but fall off the wagon in the evenings. It is like Bandster hell. Only I know it will last for quite awhile as it took me over 6 months and 5 fills to have restriction last time. I am worried and have stepped up my physical activity a bit. My friend said I should look at it as only a 3pound gain since the last 10 were a crazy loss. Is that making excuses?
  22. I had gb on 12/14 then a revision to repair a leak 12/20. I've been feeling pretty well but there are some days where I can't stomach my Protein shakes and overall don't feel well. It's like a yuck feeling vs I need to go to the E.R. Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

    Lapband to VSG

I have the band, am looking into revision to DS. I have one more appt before they submit to insurance. I started at 239 down to 185 and back up to 242 in the past 6 years. My surgeon and I decided to go the DS route since revisions have a slower rate of loss and DS has better statistics in the regain category. My band was great the first year til my gallbladder decided it wanted out. After that it was a straight uphill climb. I can't wait to get this thing out!

    GIC Unicare in Mass- Anyone?

I literally got approved on Monday. I’m a medically required revision.
  25. I forgot to address this aspect of the original poster's question. Revision from bypass to sleeve is possible. In fact, it's been performed on a few occasions. However, revision to a less potent surgical tool is usually ineffective. https://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/revision-of-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-to-sleeve-gastrectomy-and-hiatal-hernia-repair/
