    Need Cruise Advice!

The end of summer sales are coming up and you can pick up some great bargains in your gonna be size. One size equals about 15 pounds, so buy some shorts, capris, etc about 4 sizes smaller than what you wear now. It will also be a great incentive - to fit into them come cruise time. I bought my dress for my Oct wedding in Mar and got a great deal. I also bought it two sizes too small and made myself work to fit into it - and I did! I love to cruise! My DH loves to tell people that they do everything for you except powder your butt. For formal night, I would buy a party dress at the after-new-year sales. You will be very close to your 60 pound loss then, so size will be less of an issue. Don't go too naked on the top, though, as they keep the AC turned up on those ships and the dining room gets cold. Money exchange...you can look up the exchange rate online right before you leave and almost all airports have a place to exchange money. Also any bank, once you arrive at a port, will give you current rates. Merchants WILL scam you. We just got back from Mexico and every place was charging 10 pesos to one US dollar. The rate was actually 10 pesos to 90 cents, so they made an extra 10% off every transaction if you paid in USD. Even so, don't expect huge bargains in port cities, or truly "local" stuff. Most of the world's souvenirs are made in China! Alcoholic drinks on cruise ships are very expensive. coffee, tea, juice, and Water are free and more healthy, so I'd stick with them. We were settling up our bill on the last day of one cruise and overheard a party of 3 young women weeping and wailing. Their bar tab was $1300!!! Staterooms are small and the closets are tiny. Don't over-pack. Also, be aware that most airlines allow 40 pounds per bag and if you go over that, there is a steep charge. One last thing...arrange transfers in advance from the airport to the dock and back again. Most cruises do not include these and depending on the distance, a cab ride could be very costly. Hope you have a great time!
  3. I've had belly button problems over the last month or so. Super itchy, red, smelly. Just yuck. After looking around online, fungal infection seemed to be the most likely culprit. First thing I tried was some athletes foot spray I had laying around. Ouch! The amount of alcohol in it + broken skin was not a very pleasant combo. Picked up some athletes foot cream. A little dab delivered via q-tip 2-3 times did the trick. I'm still treating it, but no longer have any symptoms. Just trying to make sure it's totally gone.

    Help Me Stock My Pantry

chewing gum often contain sugar alcohols and it can increase the amount of air you take in, causing bloating, and if swallowed it can also block the opening between your stomach and small intestine.

Parents - Where are your kids?

True...the mother is more than likely inept. However, the point I was trying to make was not for her personally. It was for the four or five other girls who are dissuaded because this girl was kicked out. Sacrificing her for the four or five others is what I'm okay with. Because then, instead of 5 or 6 kids that way, I only have 1. You see it all the time -- people talking about how wonderful someone is who beat drugs/alcohol/teen pregnancy. Those are NOT the people who impress me. The people who impress me are the ones who don't make the stupid choice in the first place.
  6. My dr gave me some sort of gauze pretreated with some oily stuff. I think it was at my two week follow up, when it was time for the tapes to come off. They were in packets like the alcohol swabs. He also gave me alcohol swabs to use. Susan.
  7. Wine has lots of sugar alcohol so it can certainly cause you to dump.
  8. Whoa! Did you feel ok? I couldn't imagine how that would feel!!!! Glad you caught yourself!I felt okay afterwards but I understand why they say no alcohol for 6 to 8 weeks.Mine made me sign a contract saying I understood no alcohol for 3 months and that even then it would only take a few sips to get me tipsy.Well now I have blood in my stool and have to double up on these meds that they prescribe to heal our tummy. How a tiny little .... oops... can bite us in the butt. I bet I don't forget that again.

    Lower BMI

I have read (on this site and others) that for those who's excess calories are coming from sweets, alcohol etc. the band can't really help because liquids and chocolate slip through. Maybe this was the problem?
  10. I'm down 65 since February 3rd surgery...I've indulged a few times with alcohol, ice cream and even some fast food I probably shouldn't have. The key I'm learning is moderation...once a week is fine, just not everyday like my pre surgery routine.
  11. Dh and I are going out tomorrow night for our wedding anniversary. I rarely ever drink, in fact it's been over a year now since I've had anything but I'd like to have something tomorrow night. I don't like beer or wine. My favorite thing to drink was always rum or vodka mixed with diet coke. Any recs for a good drink I could try?

Had Anyone Had To Use Lovenox?

I used it for 3 weeks after surgery. I also used it for 7 months twice a day during pregnancy. Some tips that I learned the hard way.....wait until the alcohol is completely dry.....insert needle quickly (less pain)......push plunger in very very very very slowly (decreases bruising), and do not rub the site at all. It was really no big deal for me, but if takes a little bit to get used to injecting yourself. Good luck!

They told me no alcohol till I reach goal- at least you can try again in 4 months
  14. So, having a shake or two a day at this stage, and have bought tubs of Isopure chocolate (yum), GNC vanilla (yum) and Isopure unflavored (yuck). Trying to mix flavors up a bit and thought I'd share two things that are pretty delish. 1.) 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint oil in either the chocolate or vanilla. Yeah, it's alcohol, but a miniscule amount in a 12-oz drink. Even a few drops is noticeable flavor! 2.) For a mealtime shake, adding a 1/4 cup of pumpkin, some nutmeg and cinnamon to the vanilla powder with 12 oz of Water or milk. Really good and filling too.

    Your Lap-Band and Dating....

Thank you!! I am having fun! But I really do stress out still when It comes to food. I have been getting online trying to look at menu's of the restaurants we are going to prior so I can have an idea of what to order. Like you said I didnt want them to think I was afraid to eat in front of them... so I have tried the taking small bites and moving things around on my plate. I just don't feel like these men that I am not that close to yet need to hear about my weight loss and band. I want them to know me first... for once in my life, i dont want a focus to be on weight. I'm sure if I get serious with someone I will tell them, but until then, no one needs to know. To me this is a personal journey that only a few people need to know about. But this whole dating thing is tough because it seems like most dates revolve around going to lunch or dinner or out for a drink (which I have given up all alcohol too). Hopefully with Spring here the weather will be nice enough so that a date can be putt putt golf or a walk in a park or something that doesnt involve food. I'm not complaining... I am loving my new lie just trying to figure some things out.

I do'nt have anyone else to talk to....

Fholts, I am praying for you right now. Sometimes I think things are out of our hands and we have to ask God for help. He will not let you down. I have experienced alot of the same things you are going through but I know everyone's is different. I have a wonderful husband, he makes a wonderful living, and takes care of us very well, but I'm just 2 weeks out banded and I try to keep up with him but when I can't he gets really mad and tells me to just go to bed. I rode 4 wheelers for over 6 hours yesterday and helped my son work on his before he wrecked and today I just don't feel good and it's his day off so now he's pissed off at me. I tell him I'm doing the best I can. Then my son who just had the accident, he's almost 19, living at home, loves to party with friends and drink alcohol. It's so hard on our marriage and I pray everyday God will take care of him and us. He says he's enlisting in the Army and although I will never quit crying when he does I know it's for the best for him. Just try to think positive and try to take some time each day if your religious to ask for God's help, and we'll all be praying for you as well. Try when your attacks comeon to go some where peaceful to get your thoughts together and relax. You can do this and we're all here if you need to talk, pm me I would feel honored to talk to you or just post on here we're always here for each other. In a way we're all family. We have had something done to our bodies that just not everybody has, so we have a bond. Love you and sending hugs your way, Sherri
  17. Some fell off, and some I picked off (I'm terrible I could not resist. More tempting than any scab) , and the rest I used rubbing alcohol on to remove the sticky stuff.

any one in utah want to talk

anyway the fill was easy. I laid down with a pillow in the small of my back. she found the port. put alcohol or something on it. gave me a little deading on the skin. then inserted the needle. I didn't feel the needle at all. and it was done. poof.. I don't know about restriction. stayed on fluid yesterday and mushie's today. but I don't think so on the first one. put in 1 cc in a 10 cc band. but it is the start on the road to restriction. I like it slower actually. then I can work up to it. happy new year to you.. hope you are successful in all you do..

    Drinking Alcohol After Being Banded?

Lets do the math on this. (The calorie count is rough) Beer in general has 150 Calories per serving. Light Beer Calories 100 Extra Light beer has 64 Hard Liquor has 60 Wine has 120 IPA Beer has about 250 Calories Sweet Drinks such as Mikes Hard Lemonade etc about 250 Calories If you have about 10 IPA Beers per week that is a potential extra pound of weight loss you could have had but the reality you gained it as you didn't loose it because of the alcohol. Can you drink alcohol? It is not recommended. you will loose weight much faster if you don't.

    Drinking Alcohol After Being Banded?

I don't drink alcohol, much. But he couple times I have had a drink, it goes to my head quicker. I have lost 100 lbs, so size makes a difference. But 1 drink, gives me a buzz. I had a Bud light on tap watching football yesterday, just one was all that I could drink. So, my answer is "yes" it affects you differently. I have been banded for 1 year. Karen(kll724)

    Bread Question

this may sound dumb, but here goes. . .when i was about 3 months out, i was still really careful in everything i attempted to eat. . so when my mom and her friend came to visit me for a week, what i did instead of "joining in" with the celebrations (I hadn't seen my mom in over 7 years) I busied myself catering to them. . . when it was time to eat, i made myself a very very small plate and took only protein, When my mom started in on me, I right away would get up and offer her stuff, more coffee, some cake? How about some alcohol? Lets go sit on the patio, You 2 visit, let me stack the dishwasher. . . I was so busy with myself that i never once missed the celebration with food and it did me good. . .I understand you want to celebrate your daughters b/day but really there will be one every year. . . it's not like you have to do it this year right? Busy yourself by fussing around her. . cater to her. . But it's your choice, you make the choices for yourself. . .just be careful cause at 31/2 weeks. . . well ask yourself, is the tummy REALLY healed up good enough to prevent a possible leak??????? good luck!
  22. Yes I do. I'm working on it. I'm right below goal. Would like to drop a few more lbs before officially going into maintenance. How are you eating now Babbs? I know you just went into maintenance. @@AlanaRN I'm actually in the same boat you are....I'm wanting to lose a few more pounds. So I technically haven't hit maintenance quite yet. I'm still eating to lose, basically. But I've upped my calories a bit (1300) and will have some whole grain bread with a sandwich every now and then, and occasionally a treat like a cookie or alcohol. So I'm slooooowly going into maintenance mode while still trying to lose a few more. Does that make sense? The weight is not wanting to seem to come off at this point, though, so I may be done for now

    Drinking Alcohol After Being Banded?

You can still drink alcohol. I choose not to - too many calories. Most of the time I am too full. I have issues with beer due to the carbonation - makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable, I get the same feeling with sodas.
  24. Hello there. I have a friend who recently underwent the Gastric Sleeve surgery and I was concerned about his health and thought that this may be a good place to ask a question. My friend underwent surgery during the second week of September. He has lost around 50 lbs already and looks great. What concerns me is that he is consuming a large amount of alcohol, and has been since the 4th week after surgery. He originally told us it would take at least 5 weeks to recover from the surgery. On a night out he has been consuming over 10 vodka drinks and 5 shots of alcohol (which he sips). We try to curtail him from this but he refuses to stop. He has been drinking like this 2 to 3 times a week. Does anyone know of the complications that could arise from this type of activity? My friends and I are worried that he's going to seriously hurt himself and want to have actual information to give him about the complications. Health and happiness to the rest of you on this board.

    I’m worried and nervous

there is no consensus among surgeons re: coffee drinking. Some will say no caffeinated coffee again for the rest of your life, some allow their patients to drink it before even leaving the hospital. Others just limit it one to two cups a day. And still others are OK with it after a certain amount of time - like after one month, or three months, or six months. So you'll have to find out from your surgeon what he/she recommends. they usually recommend you wait a year before drinking alcohol because of the risk of transfer addiction, but I know some people drink it earlier than that.
