Surgery was June 12. I'm on pureed already. The gave it to me in the hospital and said that if I kept it down I could go home. So far today I have had 8oz protein shake mixed with unflavored Unjury, 2 oz greek yogurt mixed with Unjury ,one sugar free Popsicle and about 15 oz of water. So far so good.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and I average almost 600 calories a day. One day I had almost 800 and I felt guilty! I am only allowed 3 meals ( no liquids like Soup, shakes, etc) and Protein shakes only between meals. I get about 60-70 grams of protein each day and I'm usually a few ounces shy of my 64 oz. of fluids. I feel like I'm losing slowly, too. I only lost 2 lbs. in the last 9 days. Down 26 lbs. from surgery. For those looking to add protein and calories, try this. Blend 4 oz. milk, one contain Light and Fit vanilla Greek yogurt, a scoop of vanilla Protein powder, and fruit of your choice. I've used blueberries and peaches, and liked both. It's a 200+ calorie shake, but it's healthy and has lots if protein.

I am exactly in the same place as you. I've lost about 75 pounds since last years surgery date. I am around 190. I had hoped to lose 25 more before this date. Here are some of the things I have learned. I have heard that if you eat the exact same things at the same times of day that your body has become used to those calories. Try switching up your good a little even if you don't get in exactly 80 grams of protein. Maybe try trading out one of your protein shakes with cheese sticks or Greek yogurt. I will be interested to hear if it helps at all. If you are doing the same exercises, then switch that up to. Try a new one. Maybe your body is just totally freaked out! I have been trying that for a couple of weeks and noticed when I dropped my protein shake in the morning that I was able to get past the 4-5 pounds I had been playing with since late January. Good luck!

I get most from food. I occasionally have a shake made with instant coffee or with frozen fruit/yogurt. My NUT said to not have more than 45g carbs a day.
-
For Breakfast I blend cream of wheat, pineapple with natural juices and soy milk. You can have that cold or hot. I also live smoothies with low fat yogurt in morning. For lunch I had tuna, chicken broth to add moisture and salsa. I heated that up and it was great! For dinner I had turkey chili with cheese melted in. Make sure you pick thinjs with lots of Protein. The key is blend everything and make sure it's wet and soupy. I only can tolerate 2-3 oz so be prepared to eat off it for a few days.

Was your yogurt 18 grams of protein? That's impressive!

Hi Monica, I don't compensate by eating more when I work out. I still stick to my plan and get about 85 g of protein in a day and I keep my calories between 700 and 800 a day, actual food, not minus exercise. I have had a couple days when my activity level has been unusually high, if that happens I will have an 80 calorie Greek Yogurt, but I really try to avoid that. Good luck! Carol

My surgery was June 3rd and everything went extremely well all the nurses knew who I was, I was walking at all times of the day and night... The liquid diet was not too bad I am actually on the puréed foods right now and I am scared to branch out! My dr said I can have scrambled egg whites and that did not go well I got extremely nauseous and I absolutely hate that feeling.... I am now rated Greek yogurt has so much Protein unsweetened applesauce and all I can drink is Water if I drink anything else my stomach feels weird... I am very happy and grateful for this surgery but I am just in need of support I am so uncomfortable since my pain meds are done I can't sleep I am going through crying spells and I am just soooo frustrated Help

I have to agree with all of you, I have stopped losing too. I decided not to weigh for awhile and see what happens. Im eating my 3 meals (mushie) but still have trouble getting all of my Water in. I have been eating eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans and fruit. you would think with that menu I would really lose. My insisions are doing good too. My port sticks out, Im not so sure I like that. I guess It will go down as I lose. Good luck to all the 16thers out there:blink:

I was scared too. I puked up a scrambled egg but I could eat thin slices of cheese. You get a bit better everyday. Go slowly. Eat yogurt. Chew thoroughly.

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
Momo13 replied to millsy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! Just thought I'd share my first week with the band... I started my mushy stage yesterday and I've been cooking up a storm! I made Turkey Taco Chili, Cream of Zucchini Soup and Curried Chickpeas with Quinoa. I blended half and left half of the batches whole and froze it for the soft foods stage in a weeks time. I'm finding it hard to eat so far just because I'm simply not hungry (unlike the first week when I was getting pretty sick of clear soups). What a bizarre thing!!! A typical day has been a protein shake in the morning (takes me a long time to finish), 1-2 cups of mushy food and 1/2 cup of apple sauce or yogurt a day. I'm taking multi vitamins and fibre supplements too. I've been eating out of a 1 cup bowl and baby spoon to re-train myself with these new portions. It takes me a while to eat too, another thing to get used to, haha! The first three days post op were pretty uncomfortable and I was in pain. Hurt to breathe, gas pain in my shoulders etc. I took tylenol, gravel and codeine days 1-7 but I'm just dealing with incision pain now (I was banded on Sept. 26th). I have a post op appointment with Dr. Woo next week. I have been able to sleep in my bed on my side for the past two nights but still have discomfort when I have to roll over or wake up on my stomach and when I'm showering. I haven't had any problems getting food stuck but I have also been chewing consciously and haven't been eating until I'm full... just the cup of food that fills my baby bowl and Im done, no if's and's or but's! The feeling of food passing through the band makes me very "aware" when I eat now, not painful or anything, I can just feel it so it reminds me to slow down and listen to my body. So far, so good! -

I'm 7/8ish months out, doing well, but in the past month or so I am noticing a trend, as you can figure out from my name I'm a nurse and every single day I'm at work (and only when I'm at work) I get extremely dizzy/light headed around 8/9 AM while I am standing, doing my med pass. I took my BP, it was normal, and I always eat breakfast a few hours before. Today I might do a finger stick to see if something strange is going on with my blood sugar but that would be shocking considering I'm not diabetic and I eat very well in the morning. Usually some greek yogurt, coffee and some cheese or something like that.

Same boat . Not getting enough protein or water. I lost 20 lbs sine 11/14. I know everyone is different, this is not what I expected. Some tell me I'm not eating enough. Not sure if I believe that. Not sure what the problem is. What do you eat!? I eat a big variety of foods. Not getting full often. I eat cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus, baby bell cheese, string cheese, chicken, eggs and fruit and vegetables. . Also try to get beans in. Have a few cravings that I'm trying to get over. Good luck to you too. -

My preop diet sounds about the same. I get four shakes per day plus one yogurt. My surgeon says the same thing about shrinking the liver to make it easier for them to perform the surgery. -

Maybe everyone could write down3-5 things they eat? Other than yogurt and cottage cheese. I'll start: 1. I eat, 2 oz. of lean hamburger sauteed with mushrooms or scrambled egg. 2. I make TJ's Morningstar Tomato and Basil Pizza buger. 120 cals 10 pro,6 fat, 7 carb 3. TJ's spinch and kale bites. Portion is 4, I can only eat 3, so 3 is 105 cal, 4.5 pro, 5.2 fat and 9 carb 4. TJ's Organic Butternut squash soup, 70 cals, 1 Pro, 0 fat, 17 carbs 5. Miso broth 10 cals, .5 pro, .2 fat, 1.5 carbs not nutricious but a good filler 6. TJ's frozen pizza with carmelized onion, ham and gruyere cheese, I eat 1/4 pie, 35 cals, 1.5 pro, 1.8 fat, 3.2 carbs 7. Whole Foods, chicken pot pie, I eat 1/4 pie, 80 cals, 1.5 pro, 4.8 fat, 8.5 carbs. 8. I recently discovered an expensive treat at Whole Foods called Raincoast Crisps, 6 peices is the portion, 130 cals, 4 pro, 3 fat, and 13 carbs. So 4 through 8 are heavy on the carbs but believe it or not, near the end of my day, I am often short carbs and fats, and up to 60 on proteins so I need some of these to balance and also break up the monotany of eating. I use my fitness pal to plan ahead and see what I need for the day. I never eat after Noon without checking first to see what I need, to achieve my goals. I am not perfect but I am trying very hard to be. Tomorrow, I have my support group and a nutritionist is going to speak. I will take notes and share later. Looking forward to new ideas. Ainslee -
I will share what I have heard on other LBTalk threads about hair loss. Several have said their docs attribute hair loss to not eating enough Protein. Another said her hairdresser believes it is because you may not be getting enough fat in your diet. Try adding protein, and be sure you are getting healthy fats - like olive oil, canola oil - in your daily diet. It does not take a lot, but you need some fat. Avocados and nuts are a good source of healthy fat, plus the avocado has Fiber, and nuts have both fiber and protein, along with the healthy fats. Keep the nuts to around an ounce or so. I usually have a few every evening as a snack, but you could also add chopped nuts to yogurt or fruit. I was banded in December and have not yet had a hair loss issue (may be a little early for that). Try not to worry about the speed at which you lose weight. Easier said than done! I keep reminding myself this band is not going anywhere, I am on a downward path, and if it takes a little longer than I like - it's still going toward the goal of a lighter and healthier me. Eat lots of protein (slow losers who have been successful recommend that), eat healthy and exercise. You will make it to goal... Carol - try tracking your food intake in a journal or on fitday.com or dailyplate.com. If you are not getting enough to eat your body believes you are starving and becomes extremely efficient at saving every fat cell you have ever owned to prevent starvation. Ask your doctor, but I believe you should be getting at least 800-1100 calories a day, mostly protein, then vegies/fruit, and "white" carbs like potatoes or rice seldom. This is what my doctor recommends - check to see what your doctor says... Good luck!

Well today is my first day on soft diet and I had a great Breakfast, wanted to share: sprayed non-stick pan with a little olive oil, sauteed tbsp of green onion. Scrambled 1/4 c. egg beaters, 1/4 c. low fat cheddar, 1/4 c. spinach & 1 oz. of smoked salmon together, served with dollop of plain yogurt....yum! I ate less than half and although I haven't calculated it yet it's pretty Protein rich.

6 days post op and hardly able to eat...help!
llynn1013 replied to teacherica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on 12/22/08 and am not really hungry. My brain says I am hungry but my stomach does not. Yesterday all I could eat was 3-4 oz of nonfat mocha, about 5 oz of liquid re-fried beans and a frozen gogurt (the kids to go yogurt). I am forcing myself to eat. I am worried I won't lose weight because my body will think I am starving. Although, I am down already 6.6 lbs since Monday. -
Hi ALL! Tragedy last night...cable went off half way through Idol!!! But, back on tonight...I missed the last 4 performers:confused: ! Hubby and I went out to dinner tonight...he wanted seafood. Went to Joe's Crab Shack...YUMMMMY. I was able to eat a little bit of the salad...first time for salad and it was A-ok, but couldn't eat much. I ordered crabmeat-stuffed mushrooms (an appetizer) and ate 3 of the 4....was TOTALLY satisfied, full and happy!!! No PB's, no heart burn and.....LOTS of leftovers to eat tomorrow!!!! I'm generally eating a frozen (diet) entree for lunch and being happy with it. I eat an egg or a yogurt for breakfast usually. For dinner, again, an egg, entree or crabmeat(or tuna). (Now I can add SALAD!!) I haven't eaten bread AT ALL. My portions are all smaller than before for sure!!! Disappointed in the loss on the scales, but oh well*sigh* it surely will get better. I HAVE to talk positive to myself, because I'm generally my own worst enemy!!! I successfully ate a 1/8" slice of a Snickers bar, put the rest into my desk and never even heard it call my name!!! For me, that's not just great, it's a miracle!! It has now been in my desk for 3 days and only 2 small (1/8") slices are gone. I'm actually VERY proud of myself for that, because I have NO WILLPOWER when it comes to chocolate. I'll get to personals tomorrow night. Got some chores to do tonight and still want a little "relaxing" time for myself and hubby too! JanetC: Thank you SOOOOOOOmuch for keeping the charts on us and letting us all know how great we're really doing ---stuff that's MEASUREABLE!!! You clearly put a lot of time and effort into our thread and I really appreciate it. I look forward to coming to our thread EVERY SINGLE DAY to see what's up with all of you. Later, Nanster

What you eat on an average day?
bindi2203 replied to AngelWithHorns's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi i am almost 6 months out now. I eat i guess pretty much normal foods. like i did before, just not the same amounts. i pretty well now just eat off a bread and butter plate, and i find most times that satisfys me. For Breakfast i eat things like rolled oats, or poached egg on toast. or it could be friut and yogurt, what ever i feel like. lunch is usually a salad of some discription, and at the moment i am really into ones made with this really nice and easy low fat dressing, It is basically. 1/4 c white vinegar 1/4 cup of equall sugar ( not packed tight) or splenda a few drops of sesame seed oil, no more than 1 tsp total 1/4 c Water 2 tbs soy sauce. pinch of salt and that is it. put it into a shaker, and shake it very well. I also add some small diced fresh chilli, and i love a bit of bite, I tend to chop the vegies very small into it, as though making a salsa. some of the things i add are as follows, just to give you some ideas. 2x fresh truss tomatoes 1/2 avacardo 1/4 spanish onion finely diced 1/2 cobb of fresh corn I shave them off the cobb with a sharp knife. bunch of asian salad greens, or lettuce what ever you like, also chopped good handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped. 1/4 red capsicum 1/4 green capsicum or yellow what every i have on hand 3-4 button mushrooms 1/2 lebanese cucumber diced small i also add a good handfull of mixed sunflower and sesame seeds. just before adding the dressing. I find this goes really well with grilled fish or chicken. or some times i will have it just by itself with some cut up egg or shaved ham for the Protein. I hope you guys enjoy. also i make it up and there is always some left over for the next day. it tastes just as good as left overs. cheers. -
Rosi -- I haven't been banded yet but I've been experimenting with the allowed foods so I'll be ready after surgery. This morning I made a yummy "protein shake" with the following: Blue Bunny strawberry yogurt smoothies (it's sugar free) 1.5 tbsp of vanilla whey protein 1/4 c cottage cheese 8 ice cubes blend all together well till ice is chopped fine -- YUMMY Hope that helps.
