I can't have the Atkins shakes because they are too high in calories for my program. Well, I can have them, but I can only have a half-can instead of the whole thing. You might want to look at EAS AdvantEDGE or Premier Protein shakes instead. Don't worry about whatever is in the canned shakes; when she says "no dairy" I'm pretty sure it means she doesn't want you having milk, ice cream, yogurt, ice cream, cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc. Between the lactose and the fat, dairy's kind-of a no-no on a diet! (and why I make my Protein drinks with unsweetened almond milk).

Post Op Food Suggestions

AND seriously, you will not believe how much can fill you up. Like a half of a scrambled egg. Or a couple tablespoons of Greek yogurt. Don't over-portion. Don't be afraid to back away and not finish. I remember my first container of Greek Yogurt took me Breakfast and lunch to finish. -

During that phase of the diet I ate a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, tuna and chicken salad, cream of wheat, canned soft pears and peaches, applesauce. As everyone else said, take one food at a time and go very slow and see how it works for you. I tried eggs which I used to love and it did not work for me. It made me very ill and even two years later still does. I keep trying though..... Also keep in mind foods that don't sit well today, may a week or a month from now or so. -
Protein shakes from POwder- why must be consumed within 10 minutes?
ironpoorer replied to ironpoorer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Neither does the Body Fortress that I notice; I even used to mix up a gallon of it in the blender; adding some Greek yogurt etc and keep it in the fridge for a couple days; never noticed any adverse side effects. Plus leaving it sit allowed it to 'de-air'...I always hated the frothy blender shakes causing stomach gas when drinking fresh. Naturally before pouring one, I would shake it up to get the protein back into suspension. -
There are lots of reasons doctors have no alcohol or a fairly long wait on drinking. First and foremost. Empty calories. Your goal is to lose weight, I assume. Drinking your calories is a really bad idea. And once you've had that alcohol, many people tend to make bad decisions on what they put in their face. Are you (general/plural) really going to reach for SF puddding (sic) or greek yogurt or are you going to finish off that bag of popcorn or the infamous box of Cheez its? Secondly, your stomach has a fresh incision and it takes time to heal. The acidity in wine, soda, and jooce (sic) mixers can irritate that tender tummy. No bueno. Third, you don't know how alcohol will affect you. I got totally blitzed off a glass of wine, and was dead sober an hour later with my first drink. (And the heartburn that commenced had me rolled up on the floor in tears for an hour.) You really shouldn't be eating and drinking at the same time, so there goes the option for foood (sic) in the tummy to soak up some of the booze. But you are an adult and only you can decide for yourself. I am sure you will make exactly the right decision for you.

Want to stick with current eating plan, getting new foods is scary
happy2bjcox posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was supposed to follow an eating plan prior to surgery. The 2nd day in I found my surgery date would have to be postponed. This was okay, because I didn't have the stuff to make my doctors specific drink, and this gave me time. While I was looking for the ingredients for the drink my doctor wanted me to make and consume have twice a day I realized I was repulsed with the recipe. I couldn't stand the idea of drinking egg whites. My brain knows it is fine, but I didn't like the notion, so pre op I cooked the eggs. The doc said it was fine. I told him twice more post op how I cooked my eggs, because he seemed fine with it. I wanted to make sure we all really understood. Eventually I mixed drink with milk, and kept on with my cooked eggs. I like the Soups, so I enjoyed a lot of them. When I was allowed I added Greek yogurt. I did a great job with the liver prep, because I did it for 3 weeks pre op. It has become kinda habitual. I didn't really want change anything. I have lost more than 500 lbs in 4 big diet extremes, and when I had surgery last month I became aware that at 55 I'm at my last shot, and I weighed about 280. I kinda want to be like the gambler, alcoholic, narcotics addict, and just be done with the stupid food thing, one day at a time. I have physical problems docs seem to think i won't be able to work on until I lose weight. I am having a sedentary recovery. I feel lucky I found this site pretty fast post of, I do wish I had found it sooner. Maybe I would have prepared better. No, I probably would have rushed right in. Does anyone else feel like I do? Is anyone else fearful to move beyond a comfortable step? -
Post Op Food Suggestions

Everything you listed should be ok, but just try one new food at a time to see how it goes. Some people have difficulty with eggs early out. Try to make sure they are soft/runny and not dry. When I was on soft foods I ate a lot of cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, tuna, soft fish, refried Beans, etc. I still eat a lot of these! Wendy's chili is good. I eat oatmeal but usually add Protein to it. You can add Protein powder. -
sugar free apple sauce added to diluted Water. I lived on one cup of activia yogurt for days that first week after surgery. I would eat a tiny spoonful and then be exhausted. I can and I will.

I made my own broth, the broth I make for chicken Soup. It is significantly tastier than that stuff from the can, or from a cube! I also occasionally used a low-cal, low-fat greek yogurt to make a smoothie instead of having aNOTHER Protein shake. It really helped. I like the Syntrex nectar whey protein isolate shake powders; they come in SO many different flavors. Really breaks up the boredom of the shakes.

Do you have a post op coming up soon? Talk to your doctor. I had a very hard time getting things down the first couple of days. I think my stomach was swollen from the surgery. Then I had to drink small sips of liquids, but now, two weeks out, I can drink the liquids fairly steadily, a few sips at a time. I can only have greek yogurt besides the shakes and liquids and I do feel a fullness with those. Sometimes two bites in and I have to stop and sit more upright for a couple minutes before proceeding. I'm usually able to finish a 5.3 oz yogurt cup in one sitting though. The doctor told me that liquids (and he included yogurt as a liquid) should be able to pass on through the sleeve fairly easily, so as you put more in, some comes out. I've also heard that once you start a bit more solid, chewable food, that's when you notice the difference. Congrats on the weight loss. That's awesome. How much was post op and how much was pre op? -
Help first day of pre op

It does seem to get better around day 3-4. Every dr requires a different plan. Mine called high Protein, no sugar Greek yogurt a liquid. Also, I found this Soup - ProtiDiet chicken. After a few days of shakes, this tasted like heaven. Make it a little light on Water and ... it kind of tastes like a gravy. Ha, ha. https://www.amazon.com/Protidiet-Creamy-Chicken-Soup-Pouches/dp/B001FUEY56/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1470962730&sr=8-3&keywords=protidiet+chicken Most diets will allow sugar free popsicles too. I didn't get them at first, but when I did try them, I was hooked! They also make it a bit easier to get some Fluid in right after surgery too. Hang in there. You can do it! Stay strong. A new you is headed your way! -

You should be eating the amount recommended by surgeon or nutritionist. You don't want to feel full. Many of those foods are sliders. Be careful.I just thought my body would signal more. I don't know. Same goes with Protein shakes. No feeling of fullness. I have stuck mainly to eggs and cheese and protein shakes. Bc I know those hold more nutritional value and more protein than pudding or potatoes. He didn't give me a specific ounce per meal nor a calorie goal. He did give me protein goals and Fluid goals, obviously. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Your body won't send full signals until its too late. Protein shakes, yogurt, pudding are all foods that go quickly through your sleeve so you can usually eat more. My plan says 1-2 Oz's every 3 hours (eat over 20 mins or less). I don't know if that's the same as yours. That's only for food - not liquids. I would just be concerned of overeating and getting sick. You can really hurt yourself this early out. Congrats on your weight loss! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App[/quote I'm really trying to be cautious of stopping ahead because of my body not sending any signals. I'm 2 weeks post op on a blended diet. (Pourable applesauce consistency). The yogurts small curd cottage cheese and even the protein shakes are causing serious mucus production. I need non dairy ideas! Please and thank you

Hi, I'm on day 8. I ventured into pureed baby foods last night. Mixed the pureed chicken with some chicken broth, salt, paprika and a dash of steak sauce and it was actually really, really good! I also tried some Oikos black label chocolate greek yogurt thinned out with a little skim milk and I mixed in some salted caramel protein powder. OMG! Amazing! Picked up a few different flavors of protein powder sample packets from the local Alpha Nutrition store today. Cant wait to try them. Got a pineapple coconut and one that is supposed to taste like the milk leftover from Fruity Pebbles cereal. Each one has about 25G of protein, 0 Sugar and only 1 carb. So, since they're freebies, guess I'll give them a try!

I had my RNY gastric bypass on Monday, 8/8/16. I'm home and on the 2 week liquid diet now. Any thoughts of good liquid Protein drinks? I used a container of Kroger carb master cinnamon roll yogurt, milk, and vanilla Protein powder and blended it together. Made 2 servings. Just looking for other people's suggestions. Thanks. I'm transitioning off soft foods into regular now so for the last few weeks I was having: Breakfast - greek yogurt or low fat cottage cheese or scrambled/hard boiled egg lunch - pouch of tuna or salmon or 2oz low sodium/low fat lunch meat and a low fat string cheese dinner - tilapia baked in a foil pouch (keeps it moist and soft, change up the flavor by adding different herbs/spices), ricotta bake, canned chicken, shrimp and if room an ounce or so of soft cooked non-starchy veg - carrots, green Beans etc I still did one Protein shake a day to make sure i got enough protein.

My surgery was Aug 1st
Candygyrl replied to Tonya2B Fit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Tonya2bfit I had tons of noises post op. IT was quite embarrassing because I've always had a quiet gut. As far as hunger it may be hard to tell right now with being on full liquids. You may notice it less as your diet advances and trust me you will be able to tell when you're full which is why you want to learn early on to undereat your sleeve. When I was at your stage I was tolerating about 1/4 cup of soup, cream of wheat or applesauce etc. For something like yogurt, I'd eat what I could and come back to it after about 20 min to finish it off. in between, I was sipping Water, and Protein shakes. I will admit I was feeling this sort of spasm in my upper stomach that felt almost like a cross between a burp and a hunger pang. I didn't know what the heck was going on. It did calm down as time went on and I now notice it less frequently and ONLY when I haven't eaten for awhile. Make sure you are eating enough and make sure you are taking your Prilosec. I just learned about silent GERD so some of the symptoms you described may be related. -
I don't know what an average day is SUPPOSED to look like really, but what I try to do is one protein shake (30 g protein) and something else like a yogurt or a pureed dish (refried beans, eggs, yogurt) for about another 15 g of protein, and as much water (usually flavored) as I can stomach. I know that I am not up to my goals just yet but it is a work in progress.

My husband had this from taking a particular type of antibiotic for an ingrown toe nail. While they were giving him antibiotics to get rid of it, we made sure he ingested as much yogurt or other yogurt type drink containing active s. thermophilus. He could not get rid of the diarrhea until he added that. The little 'shots' of probiotic drinks often contain it, but he made sure to drink as much as he could. Sorry to hear about all these troubles. At least you have a specific issue that can be fought and fixed. Good luck!

Nights and keeping on track
glitter eyes replied to kbuck3779's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Working all night long does bring its challenges. I work 7p-7a three nights in a row. Here is what works for me: Before I get dressed to leave the house I eat a high protein meal such as fish or even a 30gm protein shake. Then, by the time I get dressed I can drink a bottle of water on the way into work. So by the time I arrive I already have around 20-30 grams of protein and about 20 oz of water. Then if I am really busy for a few hours I don't fall to far behind. I usually eat one meal and one or two high protein snacks such as Greek yogurt or a protein bar. Usually be by second or third night I am slightly hungry becuase I have been sleeping all day and feel like I am in a food deficit. On those nights I may have an extra meal of a 3-4 oz of lean protein like fish or chicken. I try to sip water through the night. Can you have a bottle of water at your desk? That will make a big difference. Then on my way home I drink another protein drink or I will wait until I get home and have scrambled eggs before going back to sleep. It does get easier with time as you are able to drink a little faster and hold more food. I am over two years post op and on my days off I rarely drink protein shakes, but I utilize them a lot on the nights I work because they are quick, easy, and pack a big protein punch. I also try to plan ahead and on my first night back I usually cook enough for two nights- like grilled fish, salmon, baked chicken, etc. that way I have something ready to go. I even stop at a local BBQ place frequently and get smoked turkey or chicken. That's helps when I am too tired to cook. I also log all my food and what works best for me since my schedule is crazy is I consider each day from 7a-7a. I know on the fitness pal after midnight it goes to the next day, but what I eat after midnight I log on the previous day. Seems to work for me. Others may have better suggestions. Good luck and congrats on your surgery. -
@@dream2btrue I would definately call her and ask her to get specific on what you can have and for how long until the next phases. There are two kinds of liquid diets. Clear and full. Clear means exactly that if you can see through it and it doesn't have sugar you can have it. Full liquid means you can have strained cream Soups and even yogurts. Depending on what surgery you had, you might have been on Clear liquids only for the first week. So I would ask.

Am i doing wrong or is it normal?
glitter eyes replied to jaysmm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain eating and drinking post op and what worked for me was using toddler spoons and taking super tiny bites even if it was something as soft as yogurt. I also drank from a medicine cup the first few weeks and made each little cup last three tiny sips. Eating and drinking that small amounts and that slow got rid of my discomfort. If it makes you feel better it goes away for most of us. I am two years post op and can eat normal bites and eat at a normal speed. Hang in there and congrats on your surgery. The first weeks are rough. -
Genepro. Works great. But doesn't mix in cold like it says. I use it in yogurt, yams, tea and oatmeal.
