  1. I did get the same thing from it, if you're going on the high Protein short term, your risks are minimal. It seems to me that the problem occurs when it becomes a permanent way of life. I really think at the end of the day- South Beach, Atkins, Weight Watchers,etc- it all boils down to what works best for your body. I can't do high protein/low carb because it adversely effects my kidneys, but that doesn't mean it won't work for others. I just think in light of this study, women need to take their family cardiovascular history into consideration before going on high protein/low carb long term. I do find it interesting that this study only profiles women, not men. I wonder if their risks are similar.
  2. My name is Cindy. I am going to be 55 in August. I have battled weight all of my life. I have to do something as I can't live the rest of my life gaining weight. I've done all the fad diets, weight watchers and have lost weight but can't keep it off. I have probably lost and gained over 1000 pounds in my life time. My insurance won't cover the surgery. Self pay around here is about $22,000. My daughter had the bypass a few years ago. I went to meetings and have watched her so i know what I am up against. I have told my 2 kids and they were skeptical at first, but my one daughter is getting married the end of August and wants to help me pick out a dress I have been researching, reading, looking at youtube videos for a few months now. I chose Dr Kelly at the Florence Hospital. I liked his credentials and the hospital, the number of surgeries performed and success rate. . This morning I took copies of all the paper work and credentials etc to my pcp. He is a big health nut. He organized a program for our town to lose weight and a walking program too. He looked over all of my paperwork and had a few questions. I told him my husband is on board and when I quit smoking he smoked elsewhere till he quit himself. This will be good for him also. He is very supportive. The doc said to go for it. That the benefits outway the risks and wants to see me 1 month post op. I'm so happy for this. He wasn't skeptical at all. I sent in my paperwork this morning. I really don't see any problems and hope to schedule real soon. I was nervous at first, but am so excited...especially since I have all those blessings.

    Work Out Routine

I'm looking to revamp my work out routine to maximize results but I don't know how. I know it's best to switch up which muscles you're working out each day you're working out and stuff. I was wondering if anyone could give me like a weekly workout routine example? I think it'd be nice to see what other people do and what works for them. I understand what works for someone else may not work for me but it'd help to give me some ideas. I typically do 30 mins of the elliptical and then most of the weight machines. Thanks! -Erin
  4. Congratulations on becoming a bandster and your 24 pound weight loss.

    THREE MONTHS OUT!

Hi Shaunie, you are doing great!! I remember when I was on my 2 week Preop Protein drinks, When I went in for my last weigh in before my surgery I didn't think I had done so well. But I had lost 17#'s. When I thought about it I was ok. That was a little more than a # a day!! I am 3 years out and the way you feel about being afraid to let your guard down is exactly how I felt. I kept thinking about every diet I had been on some even many times more than up to 4 times. Weight watchers 3 times and Nutrisystem 3 times!! TOPS at least 4 times. All I could think of was how many times I had lost and then regained my weight. At one point I lost 135#'s. But it was because I was so sick from my FIBROMYALGIA and ARTHRITIS. I regained back up to 285#'s which was my highest weight except when I was Prego. I did manage to lose 36#'s and keep it off for a couple of years!! But I am here to say if you follow all of your Dr.'s guidelines especially in the 1st year to a year and a 1/2. You really don't have much to worry about. You have been given a tool that will help you to become successful!!! Just keep your eyes on the prize and remember why you decided to take your journey. Every day that goes by it becomes easier and better than the day before!! Good luck!! Just don't let down your guard and become compliant while your journey proceeds!! You CAN do this!!
  6. How should I calculate what is my ideal weight? My surgeon dodges this question. I played football in high school at 165. I wasn't skinny then, but pretty decent. Can't imagine being thinner than that but if I were to go by the BMI chart I'd have to get down lower than 145. That's not going to happen! Would it be better to measure body fat percentage and then calculate what I'd be at 10%? My stats: Height: 5' 8" Age: 46 Sleeved on 10/18/2017 HW: 270 SW: 233 CW: 222 GW: 170??
  7. MowryRocks

How do you calculate ideal weight?

I'm a trust your body kinda gal. I'm 5'1" and the weight charts show my ideal as 110. I work out 6 days a week, a lot of the thin girl that work out with me that are around my height are 130-160 and look amazing. Body composition will have a HUGE bearing on what your actual ideal weight will be,
  8. I went to the Dr. yesterday for my one month check up. I had lost 30lbs since my surgery. He told me I should wait to get my first fill and then see in a month if I need one. He said I'm losing weight at the right pace. Is this normal?
  9. Rollo

    No fill for me

Right now I'm not hungry after meals. I keep my calorie intake average around 1300 per day with zero hunger. Maybe I'm eating too much and losing weight anyway, not sure. I might start getting hungry by the time the next app. comes around

    Let me introduce myself!

Another Lopez patient here. Still currently portless & have gained 9 pounds of lard back. I feel gross even though I'm still down 65 lbs. I'm eating raw veggies for breakfast though. There's always a fresh start behind every sunset.

Welcome to LBT!!! Way to go on your weight loss!!!

    Toodles!

Bandster hell is just that, HELL! I am so there. I can at least eat real food, but the last few days I have felt like I was restricted even though I have no fill. We will survive. Just think of the weight loss later on. Let that be your motivation. :-p

    Would You Do It Again?

I'd do it again for sure. And again. And again. The results were more than I could have hoped for, and it was the icing on the cake of my weight loss. That said, I had a great surgeon, nearly no complications and no keloid scarring, so in that respect, I could not have had a better experience.

    Scheduled my Surgery!

I was just sleeved on 12/28. I told everyone I see on an everyday basis pretty much. Mainly because the people I am close with are very supportive of my journey and know my history before my sleeve. I gained a lot of weight from having a pituitary tumor and have not always been obese. My Drs thought that the sleeve would be a great tool to help me get back to pre-tumor weight since traditional diets have not worked and getting back to a healthy weight can help my endocrine system balance back out. I definitely feel the surgery was a great choice for me. It has helped me see the bigger picture. The first two days home after surgery were very rough. I kept feeling "hungry" and I was hating the limiting liquid diet. But after talking with my father in law who had the same surgery, my hunger pains were acid reflux and it was all just head hunger. So I have been taking a little extra of the liquid famotide to help with the acid and started changing up the flavor on the things I can eat. With these changes, each day gets better. I'm learning to fight the head hunger with fluids. It also helps to meet your Protein goals. The more protein I get, the better I feel. While the purpose of the surgery is to change the way we eat for life, I'm trying not to think about only food. Which is hard because I'm a professional chef in a farm to table restaurant. I've been doing my best to spend my time off of work healing to not be on pinterest looking at food, staying out of my kitchen at home, keeping the TV off. Earlier, I got an email from one of my restaurant suppliers talking about new items and it was making me have cravings so I deleted the email, moved his emails to a hidden folder, and went for a walk! Speaking of walking, walking feels amazing! It gets all of the belly gas out of your system. I've been trying to walk around my neighborhood 2 times a day. Good luck with your surgery and journey. I had to wait a little over a month between insurance approval and my surgery date and it came so fast.
  15. I'm 3 weeks post op and I think I've lost about 9lbs (lost in the first week) I lost 18 on the pre-op diet. I know it's a big adjustment for my body but I see so many posting about losing 20lbs the first couple Of weeks and wonder what is wrong with me. I'm thinking it could be that I haven't eaten enough or got enough Protein the first couple of weeks. Anyone else experience this or have a theory? Thanks!

    fun fun fun

Well, I had fun yesterday. A friend of mine went with me to St. Louis to see Regina Spektor. Who is Regina Spektor? Well, that was my question too. She is kinda like a female Ben Folds, but not as good, and wierder lyrics. It was like a poetry reading put to not-so-great music. It was nice to get away from the troubles and woes. The concert place was pretty raunchy, and the opening act was a guy who played guitar, with a drum machine, and a fake band playing on the machine. Let me tell you, he really sucked. I am usually polite to someone who is trying. But there were several instances that I laughed out loud. I mean, he really truly sucked big time. I don't know how to get the point across, but he was really bad, very very bad. Anyway, it was a small room, I was afraid to touch anything, there were no chairs, and I mean not 1 in the entire place. And with my wondrous extra weight when you stand for 3 hours, my legs start tingling, then it starts to go numb. Well, I finally found a place to sit: on top of the pool table. Appearantly I started a trend, because within 5 minutes, there were 9 of us on the pool table. Okay, there was one good thing about the place, and that would be that since the music was this off type of thing, so was the audience. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against anyone, but the crowd was made up of a bunch of what some people would call 'freaks.' Well, I have always mixed well with them, and lots are my friends. Well, anyway, I felt at home with them. We were all the same, and nobody looked at me like I was different. I may be fat, but some were covered with piercings, some tatoos, some with 12 colors of hair, and even some really smelled. So I just fit in, but jeez, 250 people in a small room like that, it was crazy, but the pool table was fun. Anyway, the good thing is, is that I didn't catch any diseases!!!!! Yay!!! Well, on Friday, I'm going back up there to see Monty Python's Spamalot. Now that should be awesome! Well, I'm outta here for now. I'll be back when I have more drama. *evil grin*

    ticker going the wrong way!

It is time for another weekly update. I'm so mad at myself for this week. Somehow I've managed to gain back 5-6 lbs.:think I don't even know what happened, this whole week has just been kind of a blur. I've scheduled another fill for next week. That'll be three weeks after my first fill. I really hope this one gives me some great restriction. I have to be back on liquids for a week afterwards. That should get me back on track for my January 1 goal. I really want to make it to One-derland by January. I also just found out that my dad is planning to bring my grandmother to visit for Thanksgiving. :help: Now, don't get me wrong, I love my grandmother. But she drives me crazy. She'll tell me how much she worries about me and how I'd be so pretty if I'd just lose weight. Oh but that isn't the worst! Usually about 5 minutes after she reminds me that I'm fat (you know like I forgot) she'll ask me if I want anything to eat. Does that make sense to anyone? 'Cuz it sure don't to me. So I want to lose as much as possible before Granny hits town. She doesn't know I have the band and I have no intention of letting her know. She'd just over-react and give me a headache. I know my reward for losing 75 lbs. is to buy a bicycle. I'm thinking of changing that. I may just go ahead and buy one now. It might help get going in the right direction again. I used to love to ride my bike when I was a kid. It would certainly help on the days when I can't manage to get to the gym. There is a bike store right by my work, I think I'll stop in there on Saturday. I've gotta do something. I won't be able to stand myself if I start yoyo-ing up again. :help:

    another one bites the dust.....

Congratulations on your endo. I bet that was fun. he he he Your friends are still your friends. You know how people get about sensitive stuff like surgery and weight issues. I did the same thing to my girlfriend when she gastric bypass and after my sister had her gb surgery. Just know that we are here because we all need that support on a regular basis.
  20. I was just banded last week before Thanksgiving Day and I thought I was gonna miss the turkey and all the trimmings. I did good! I had my surgery at the new hospital in Juarez, Mexico with Dr. Rodriquez and what an experience that was. The hospital is BEAUTIFUL and the people are so nice. Some of the nurses were hard to understand because of the language barrier, but all in all it was find. I want to thank Belite Weight for helping me. They were very good to me. Check out this article in the El Paso Times. I was there. http://www.elpasotimes.com/business/ci_7535779?source=sb-digg

    Pouch reset

Pouch reset I weigh 187 lowest weight was 147. In December It will be 4 years since my surgery. Does the reset work
  23. Healthy_life2

    Pouch reset

Welcome to the site Many of us have experienced a weight gain. Its great that you have reached out and working on getting it back down. Pouch reset is going back to liquids and progressing back out to real food stage. (It does not shrink your pouch) It may help you feel your restriction a bit. Its one way to help get back to healthy behaviors. Another option is to start at real food stage if you feel reset is too restrictive. Some choose to change diet plans Keto, paleo, vegetarian,IF, whole 30 etc. Only my opinion. Whatever diet you choose, The key is logging your food in an app and staying with in your weight loss calories/macros. Basics: Food plan, exercise, hydrate You know what to do but it may be difficult to get your head back in the game. A few threads on the site that may help. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/425354-the-importance-of-doing-the-head-work/?tab=comments#comment-4776743 https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/428113-🍁-oct-2019-challenge-🍁/?tab=comments#comment-4815439

    Self Pay and Financing

I am also going to Mexico, fearful that I could not get my surgery approved. Beliteweight.com is the facilitator we are using, JoAnne Narayan, program service director had helped us every step of the way. Our credit wasn't the best either as we are rebounding also. I did a lot of research I the doctor and hospital haven't heard one bad thing. I have been thinking about this for a long time, but it wasn't until I recently had back surgery and the doctor emphasizing re-injury chances drastically increasing because of my weight. Initially, my husband was absolutely against any type of surgery, but hearing the doctor and seeing me in pain for do long he is do supportive. A little more than you asked for but I am scheduled for October 9, and my process has been so great not having to go jump through a lot of the hoops or the disappointment of being denied.
  25. I'm curious. If you require a tummy tuck, yet are thinking of becoming pregnant when goal weight is reached, should you still get said TT? Would the skin stretching become an issue, or grow with you during development? Thank you for any candidness, Lori
