  1. Yes, I'm on September 10th, my bmi is like 39.98 something like that and anything over 35 -49.99( at the place I'm going) needs a 2 week pre op diet,. if you're 35 or under you only have to do a week! lucky ones lol! I hope you get it soon!!
  2. Hello everyone, I have been reading posts and exploring this website for a couple months now. I had my consult with the physician, behavioral medicine, nutrition and physical therapy. I haven't joined the six week class that they require yet, but I'm on the waiting list. Despite all this, I am feeling a little discouraged, I was really hoping the surgery would come sooner than what it seems. I know it will all be worth it in the end, and that none of these changes will come easy, but is there any other way to feel a little more control over the whole process?!

@@Nana1222 If it is after 6 weeks and you can get all your fluids and Proteins in, you should be fine. You will get tired, but you can do it. The exercise will be great. If you are having issues getting your Protein in still in Feb, then you won't have enough energy and you are going to be exhausted. So it is a roll of the dice based on how you heal.
  4. I am wanting to have surgery the end of December and then fly to Florida for a week at Disney World on Feb 11th. Am I pushing my luck? Will I have the energy to walk lots and enjoy myself? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Right after surgery? No, probably not. This is major surgery and most people are exhausted for at least a few weeks after, and spending all their available energy on trying to get their fluids and protein in.
  6. I had my surgery on February 13 this year and surgery went fine. I lost about 45 pounds to date and did not have any issues. I’m trying to prevent stalling because the weight was coming off pretty regularly and now it has drastically slowed down. I burn about 700 cal a day and my energy is fine. My main issue is getting enough calories. I consume on average about 500-600 cal a day if I’m lucky. I get 90-100 g of protein mostly from shakes. I never get hungry and forget sometimes to eat. I’m not looking to consume more food just raise my calories but I am worried about stalling. Did anyone stall because of too few calories and if so what did you do to balance it?
  7. I have to be pretty careful what I do eat before not-eating for a while/fasting. Anything that spikes my insulin response (that can include too much protein or something with hidden sugar like carby bread) and I'm guaranteed reactive hypoglycaemia three hours later. I hate it! But if I'm good, I'm fine. I'm doing 18:6 fasting no probs if I make sensible choices and I'm so attune to hypos I can sense when they are coming pretty early on and then I pop a glucose tablet or take a teaspoon of maple syrup. I've got it down to a fine art because I HATE hypos (T2 diabetic in remission here).
  8. So I'm on day two of the 2-week pre-op diet (3 shakes a day, 1 lean cuisine, 64 oz+ of water), and wow, it's hard to fit all this liquid into my day. I'm trying to time it correctly with Water consumption so that I'm not drinking water 30 min before or 1 hr after a shake, but...time is running out on me! It's a good thing that right now I can gulp a whole bottle in 15 minutes, but I know won't be able to do that after surgery. So what are your great tips on how to fit in all the shakes/water/etc? Bonus question: I'm also a little annoyed that my doctor's office is being super inflexible about the pre-op diet. I'd like to substitute some unjury chicken Soup flavor Protein instead of a shake here and there because all the sweet stuff is a lot, but they said no--just drink the three shakes, with no real reason why. Blegh. Also can't have sugar-free popsicles, they said, again with no justification. I might switch in a few Soups and make some popsicles anyway. I mean, does it really matter if I'm drinking or licking my crystal light? I don't think so! I don't want to subvert their instructions, but these substitutions seem perfectly reasonable to me as long as protein levels and water levels stay high.

    The Last 10 Lbs

I have found I need to track and weigh everyday... but I have tried to take that "obsessed" mind part out. I just do it like brushing my teeth. When I don't do it, I gain. I am finally at goal, (well, working on losing a little bounce range) and how I act is mostly the same as I did when I was still in the losing phase. I use the 5:2 and luckily I don't get too cranky, wouldn't like that! It has gotten easier with time. Its a good maintenance tool too, you might even get away with one day a week for that(6:1). (not me so far, but after the bounce pounds are gone... 3 or 4 I may go to one day a week and see if I can keep the weight off) Just do what your doing, its not a race, you will get there! I was 5 pounds from goal when i started gaining, and it took me almost a year to get back there and then to goal. I'm still learning how to do this right!

    Travel

This is more of a vent, but if anyone has sugfestions i would appreciate. I am 14 weeks post open and travel often for work. When at home usually cook make my Breakfast and lunch. And tend to have dinner out a few nights a week since my crossfit session is out too late to make dinner. I have not really had to make any major special requests (just minor stuff burflger or chicken without bun, veg instead of starch) when eating out. Nearly all restaurants allow me to order a child's Protein and salad instead of fries. Unfortunately on my current business trip it has been a bit of a challenge. I am in Guam and the hotel menu's are quite starch heavy or fried. Every time I go to order food I have to talk to the chef and we analyze each menu item and come to the conclusion that nothing fits my needs. They ask what I want and I explain to them the things I usually eat, they think about it and suggest, "can you eat chicken?" I usually agree to chicken and it is usually dry. My local colleague is getting frustrated with my special requests. At home I eat eggs but have not been able to keep them down here I am out of ideas. I asked tonight if they have cottage cheese or Greek yogurt and they do not. I spend so much time talking about what to eat that I don't have enough time to eat it. So far the chicken has been dry and the burger patties and steak are tough. They have two salads on their menu - a kale salad with chicken and a chef salad. I don't do cold cuts due to sodium so the chef salad does not work. I walked six miles this morning looking for a grocery store and could not find one. Ithink has never been such a struggle to find something to eat. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App

6 months out and only 60lbs?

Once I started weightlifting, my weight has stayed in the 190's. However, my body has changed a lot. My surgeon and NUT tells me not to stress it. Inches matter more than the scale because that is unhealthy fat that you are burning off. Muscle also weighs more than fat and when you lift or workout. Do not lose faith and just keep going. You will break your stall soon.
  12. Hi. Just wanted to share this funny story with you. Before I decided to get my band, I joined Weight Watchers (AGAIN). I went to the first meeting and the lecturerer asked what problems everyone had had that week. One lady said she hadn't been drinking enough water. Then another said she hadn't exercised enough. Then about 5 or 6 people said they had been having problems with too many BLT's. I thought that was kinda strange - all these people eating too many bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwhiches????? I finally asked the nice lady sitting next to me and she informed me that BLT's were Bites, Licks, and Tastes. So just remember... to many BLT's and you won't lose like you want to. Hope everyone is well and happy!!! Becky

    Day before Surgery

Good luck .....I am due to be banded in 2 weeks (Sept 7) and I have been very anxious with a nervous stomach. Would like to stay in touch with you with your progress.
  15. Hi I am due to have my surgery next week in Perth and I am worried I haven't lost much yet! Just 3kgs. Is it possible surgery could be cancelled if I don't reach the suggested 5-10kgs loss? I've been on a 2 liquid meal and 1 VLC meal diet. Thank you

    Train of thought

Brooklyngirl, First off....Tuesday! Wow! So exciting for you! I hope it goes very smooth and youre back with your family quickly and feeling fantastic! I will be thinking about you next week! Secondly.... I am absolutely not able to stop myself. Its a harsh reality, isn't it? I have faced that many times just trying to prepare myself for this surgery. I am a single mom (the fullest definition) of a 12 yr old boy. I have tried to drink Protein shakes while he eats the dinner I made for him. Extremely difficult! See, I own my own house, I take care of all house and home business. Everything from yard work to dishes and everything in between. I work 40 - 50hrs a week to do it. I am woman hear me roar!! I feel very strong, very in control. But...I cant stop myself from eating too much. I cant control myself around sweets. I just cant. And...it makes all the other things I do seem meager. Eating, and my weight because of it, is my biggest challenge and my biggest shame. I cant control it and it ticks me off! So, I know I need this surgery. I am just scared at times and petrified at others. ugh! I'm determined to change it. Very determined!

Question about how the fills work

    1. A fill applies pressure around the stoma (hole) and makes it smaller and applies pressure to the nerves around the stomach which can sometimes include a specific nerve that can dim your hunger. 2. What are you eating? You say you don't feel satisfied, but do you feel not hungry when done eating? Satisfied is irrelevant honestly, you eat for nourishment and to quell hunger. For the pain in your chest, sounds like gall bladder pain, ask your Dr. for an ultrasound of your gallbladder (explain that you sometimes have pains for nearly an hour 30-60 minutes after a meal and that they are in the middle of your chest). Also - write down everything you eat and measure your food. You should be eating 1-2 cups of food per meal. 3. Every two weeks is too fast, a fill can be delayed by up to four weeks. You don't have to go in every two weeks, just tell him you feel more comfortable waiting through a whole month because women's bodies go through different changes throughout the month and you know your body (he won't argue). And keep your fills small - some people talk about 5 cc fills at once, that would have had me in the ER - it sounds like your fill, while small to some, was good start - like mine was. I was at my sweet spot with a single 1.5 cc fill. Who knew? I didn't, and I went in for another four weeks later for another 1.0 cc because everyone else on here (almost) needed more and I was too full for two months (while billing issues were worked out) and it was hell. I've had that 1 cc removed, and since had my gall bladder removed (last week - my experience is on the board with all the details) and my Dr left my fill in because I'm in the green zone. FILLS My first fill (dates in my signature) was easy, over in a few minutes, done under fluoroscopy. Provided great restriction (reduction of how much I could eat and what I could eat) and appetite suppression. My second fill (dates in signature) was easy as well and also done under fluorscopy, but I did doubt if I needed it and I should have listened to myself but I didn't. It went well, but I could tell the next day I was too full but wanted to give it a bit to see how it settled (some days I could eat some I couldn't - then I started vomiting regularly). Right now I'm about 0.10 - 0.25 cc from perfect. Only because I get hungry around 3 hours after a proper meal and I'd prefer that be 4-5 hours. Take it at your speed - there's no rush.

    Boredom

Although I'm just a month out, my surgery was a band revision. I really came to this 2nd decision thinking on what did I at least learn the first time and what is STILL a challenge for me. Boredom eating is it. I've had a few evenings in the past week where I'll catch myself thinking like that again, but since it's in the evening, I go brush my teeth to try and curb the urge. I also participate with writing letters to the troops so I try to write letters when I feel like that since it gets me outside myself instead of focusing on me. The summer weather is full on here so the evenings aren't cooling off all that much...grrr. I also like the post the other day that spoke on how exercise for some just has to be the "job we do." So, on those moments of boredom, my Wii comes out and Just Dance 4 goes in to have a bit of fun, because it has to be my job...and I'm bored. Thanks for the discussion start. :-) PS--being a teacher during the day usually doesn't give me time to be bored at work. Summers can sometimes be my Achilles heel.

    Burping when eating

Eating to fast. My husband eats very slowly but when he eats faster he burps. I never burp, so also it must be an individual thing. I try so hard to slow down my eating. Three years later, my husband still puts down his fork between bites.

    Hi ppl (Worries)

I had mine Sept 23rd. I have lost 31 pounds so far. I stall for a few days not loosing anything and I was told this is perfectly normal! A lot of it depends on your intake and your activity levels. I still am unable to get all my Fluid or Protein "goals" into me but I make sure to exercise! Your not alone! It will happen all in good time! Be patient and keep healthy.
  24. The pre-op and fou stage post-op phases are as effective as a detox. You have flushed a lot of sugar, salt, and grease out of your system. Meds may be affecting your taste buds, too. The first time I ate a french fry, at about five weeks, I gagged. Clearly, it wasn't the potato I went for, it was the salt and the grease. At the processing plant, McDonald's fries are dipped in a corn-based sugar solution before packaging. Same goes for Long John Silver's Battered Fish. I ate the fish so that I could have the greasy, salty batter. No wonder our food tastes differently post-op. We are eating in a purer and more natural form, closer to the way food is supposed to taste without all of the additives and condiments that we add to it. Seriously, I had to learn to eat all over again so that food is for nutrition and not entertainment and comfort.
  25. I'm 12 weeks out & I remember thinking so many things either tasted weird, bad or were just unsatisfying to my taste buds during the first 2months. At 3 months now, I will say many things taste quite good! My tastes have changed & I find myself craving healthier foods. What a gift in itself!!! I do make sure to have a small bite or 2 of things that look delicious, so I'm not depriving myself--I used to either indulge or deprive. I've found so much balance since the sleeve. Good luck!
