That's a great NSV. Nothing like being a new person but still you. (If that makes any sense.)

I posted a new top yesterday about NSV's & it's had 109 views but no replies. I will consider that a BUST!

I love it! We should probably have a new thread here called "mistaken identity" as several folks lately have posted stories along the same line where a family member doesn't recognize you because you have lost so much weight! Congratulations....a great NSV!

I'm a single dad to three great kids -- ages 16, 11 and 10. Life has not been easy for them since their mom died four years ago, but they are generally doing great and I am very proud of them. They are probably the primary reason that I had this surgery last July -- I really felt like I needed to get my health under control so that I would be around as long as possible to take care of them and be happy and healthy while doing it. Anyway, last weekend, I came home from shopping and my son was in front of the house playing basketball. As I came into the house, I stopped to talk to him for a minute or two about who knows what. A little while later, my older daughter tells me -- "Dad, I was looking at my window and got a little scared to see some strange man talking to Kevin, but then I realized it was you!" She made my day! Brian

That is an awesome NSV yayyyy!

MMichelle.... Awesome List!!! I have a bunch of my own too. We should start a new topic of Non-scale Victories (NSV's) we all want to experience throughout this process... helps to stay motivated when the scale isn't moving! Thoughts??

In other news I am not dead.

Glad to hear you aren't dead. Is that considered a NSV? -
I'm doing my best to not focus on my weight so today I have been thinking about the non scale victories that I have achieved over the past month (just banded in March 2011). 1. I NO longer drink Diet Dr. Pepper (all day long habit) & or coffee. I've replaced them both with water! 2. I NO longer have to take medicine for acne & my complexion, after 2 yrs of oral acne medication, has never been better! (thank you water!) 3. My clothes are loose. 4. I'm not craving sweets. 5. I have not had a headache in 21 days. I was having them at least every other day - caffeine? poor food choices? I don't know! I don't care, they're gone!! That's what I've got after 35 days when I started my 2 week pre -op Optifast & 21 days of band living. For me, all of this is huge. I'd love to hear all of your NSV's....(from anytime, not just from March/April 2011!)

Amen sister! I love and continue to be amazed when the scale goes down but those NSV's just like the one you described are priceless!! I am starting to get a little irritated when people ask me how much I have lost - I am not sure why, it's just that all of the sudden it feels really private to me and I don't want to feel like people are walking around discussing the fact that I have lost over 100 lbs. I usually reply thanks for noticing, I have been working at it and I still have a ways to go, then try to change the subject. I never expected to feel that way.

A crazy NSV
LilMissDiva Irene replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yes it's true, I've been Up and Down with my weight for the last almost 20 years. I've never been thin as an adult, only since being a young teenager, then shortly after I got married and stopped doing things to keep myself thin. I gained that weight pretty quickly. You do have a lot to look forward to, and that's a lot less of you. NSV's are my favorites. The scale going down is nice, but I'm telling you, it's the little things that keep reminding me that I'm doing mighty fine. Good luck!!! -
Haha that's kind of funny and amazing too, that it's only taken you 6 months for that huge of a change. If you were bigger for a long time I think it's kinda natural for it to take a while for people to adjust to a smaller frame on you. Try to see it as a positive nsv, cuz they still love you. I have heard of a lot of ppl catching glimpses of themselves in a window and realizing it was them and not someone else too. Thats both strange and funny. Post-op must be a wild trip!! I can hardly wait for the ride.

Hello crowd! I haven't been posting much I know, I've been really really busy at home and at work too. It has taken all my time and time posting here has been very limited. I had a kinda strange NSV last night and thought I'd share it. I was a little bit perplexed by it and thought, wow... do I really look THAT different? Strange... Anyway, my Mom and I have been commuting to work together for the past few days. My Mom just started back up to work and she works near where I do. We thought it would be a good idea because then we can share on gas and have use of the carpool lane too... which is great!! Plus our schedules work out perfectly so she can drop me at my office and pick me up after since I work 9 hours a day. Well, yesterday I had to wait on her because she made a quick stop at the grocery store. As I was standing by the curb waiting for her, I started playing on my Droid phone. I wasn't really paying enough attention I guess to those pulling up and waiting or picking up others. She made her way there and got out to get into the passenger side (she hates driving in gridlock so I do it). Well, next thing I know I hear my Mom call my name, so I go over and get into the car. She looks at me confused and said, "I didn't even recognize you at first!!" LOL!!! I just looked at her and said.. "you didn't recognize me?" She said, "No, you look so skinny and I didn't know that was you!" Haaahhaaa!! I just chuckled, but I was really surprised to hear this. You know, My Mom lives with us so she freakin sees me every day. I guess in this situation it was a bit different, because she had to scan me amongst others around. Not only that I see friends every single day and I'm even having to go out of my way to say hello to them and they always look shocked and say, "oh my goodness hey!! I didn't even recognize you!" They mean to just walk right past me... it's so funny!! It does make me a little sad too but hey I guess they'll get used to the new me eventually. I just never imagined that in 6 months I would change so much physically that folks I see day in and day out wouldn't even recognize me from afar.

Whoo hoo! Had a similar experience in my closet Sunday. I put on a pants suit for church that I knew was a size 18 I had kept from a million years ago. The top had a little wiggle room but the pants were snug....zipped up but not that comfy. Decided to wait a week and try again. Then when I took them off I noticed I had the wrong pants and they were 16's!!! I totally cried too! I found the matching pants and wore that size 18 bad boy with comfort and wiggle room! Got to love those NSV's!! SO happy for you and your size 16 self!!! -
You're doing great! From what I've read & went thru, we all have stalls but get NSV's (NonScaleVictories) in other ways so my suggestion is to give yourself some time before the HCG. My friend had the sleeve for about a year before the HCG and she did it to help "reset" her weight. and to lose the extra 20 she wanted to. I'm 4 months, 46 pounds and grateful for this weighloss but my metabolism is so shot from the gain/lose that I am really considering the HCG to jumpstart it also.

OMG... not sure if this a NSV or not

This guy that I have kinda dated on and off for 5 yrs. Haven't seen him in a year or so called the other night wanting to go to dinner. So I went. Keep in mind I have only lost around 30lbs. Most people don't even notice yet. Went to dinner and movie and he was supposed to come over one night this week and watch a movie. He texted me today(he does not know about the surgery) and told me that he really liked me bigger and if I wasn't willing to put the weight back on he didn't think he was interested anymore. I didn't even respond to the text. Can you believe that..Obviously we weren't serious but what a weirdo. I thought he liked me in spite of my weight. Guess it turnes out it was because of my weight. lol -
Today has been the first nice day outside since my surgery in November. Before I knew it was that freakin nice out I had done 30 minutes free step on my WII and 20 minutes of just dance. Then we left to go out a lunch/dinner at a Hawaiian restaurant and I could not believe how FANTABLOUS it was out. I actually spent more time at the restaurant thinking about coming home and taking the dogs for a walk! So when we got home I took them and we walked farther than any time every in the last 4 years of living here, then I brought them home and decided that the yard needed to be picked up, so I put on my tennis shoes AND walked to Walgreens about 4 blocks away to by yard waste bags, carried them back the 4 blocks and picked up all the leaves and sticks in the yard, and THEN yes there is a THEN I put out the solar lights around the flower bed and walk ways! I still have energy to spare, no back pain, no sciatica, my hips are not screaming and I am PSYCHED!

Yesterday, I was shopping at lane Bryant, and the store clerk asked me if I needed help. I told her I was looking for a particular shirt that the manequin was wearing. She told me to follow her, and she picked up the shirt and handed it to me and said "this is the smallest size we have" and handed me a size 14/16!!! She assumed I wear their smallest size!! I was beaming on the inside. I was banded on 12/31/2010 and have lost almost 40 lbs and was wearing a size 22 pants and 18/20 top, so this was exciting to me! Just wanted to share!!

That was a funny NSV! And you get a new uniform as well. Keep up the great work.

I've been telling my boss to order me new work pants as mine are getting looser and looser ( I work in a bakery- very close quarters). It was crazy busy yesterday and he went past me with a big tray of bread. He accidently hooked my pants and pulled them down to my knees!!!! Thank goodness my shirts are huge ( and long)!! We all were laughing til we cried ( so did the customers). Broke our stress from how busy and guess what? He ordered new uniforms!!!

Way to go!!! BTW I thought NSV was New Size Victory LOL

Well I had one set of smaller size clothing set back having gotten rid of all my previous sizes. Pre-op I was in a 52 pants and they were just about cutting me in two they were so freakin' tight. I had a few pairs of 46s and wore them till they were almost comically baggy. I finally went shopping for new britches a week ago Saturday. I tried on a 42 and they fit about right, a little loose but not too loose around the waist, I then tried on a 40 and they were kind of snug. So I ended up buying 2 pair, the 42 and the 40. I ordered a pair of jeans (I like a certain brand - Deluth Trading) in 40s thinking it would be OK to wait a week or two till they were comfortable. Well I wear my pants for 4 days M-T (please no comments I work in an office and just don't get them dirty, EVERYTHING else gets changed daily) and jeans on Friday. By Thursday I noticed the 42s were getting kind of loose. The size 40 mail order jeans came Thursday so I washed 'em up in order to try them on Friday morning fully expecting to have them NOT fit yet. To my shock they fit fine and the legs are a little baggy at that. In 4 months I've gone from a TIGHT 52 to a comfortable 40, that's 12 inches lost around my waist! I've been a cheapskate and refused to get a new belt. My belt goes around me and then again about 30% almost 16" stick out past the buckle! Jeez, I love this sleeve!

BIG NSV for me today. I just wrote out the final check to pay off my surgery! -
Okay so I've worn a wide shoe my entire life, well thanks to my lovely sleeve I can now wear a regular width shoe. I'm so excited, never in my life have I been able to go into a regular shoe store and buy a pair of shoes.

The first week/week & a half, I had 2 meltdowns and wondered WTF I did to myself. I'm about 9 weeks out now and I'm down 48 pounds. I've never lost 48 of anything before. I wish I had done it sooner. That's my only regret. Once you see yourself shrinking and losing weight, once you see yourself having amazing NSVs that are personal to you... it makes adapting to what life is going to be like much easier. It makes it all worthwhile & justifies itself I guess you can say. In the beginning I think it's hard to digest (haha) what we've done because we haven't seen any dramatic changes in weight/body yet plus we're coping with a lot of losses (foods, cokes, etc) and we see this very long road ahead of us that just seems.. super long. The diet plans in the beginning seem crazy but they eventually become second nature. Life starts to feel normal again after awhile. You'll see Sometimes I feel like it sucks that I can't have more than a bite of this or that in a social setting but when I look at my friends (who are all heavy people) scarfing it down for me... and I catch my husband checking out my newly shrunken badonkadonk... it makes it easier. It's insane how much mental control we have over what we ingest now. Before... poweless to foods siren call. Now? I can do this. Good luck!
