  3. Thanks for posting canadianprairiega! I haven't tried oatmeal or salad yet. My diet thus far is still pretty bland. I have egg whites and sausage for breakfast, cheese stick for snack, chili for lunch, Greek yogurt for snack, and some sort of Protein for dinner. It feels like I'm losing slowly and suddenly I have a major sense of urgency to see the scale move. I had my one month post op last week. The doc gave me a goal of 154 within the next five months. Honestly I sat there and giggled in disbelief when he set that goal. He assured me that I could do it, but I can't even picture myself at that weight. It seems so unreal. So, now I'm using MFP and exercising. Hopefully the scale will move. My current stats- presurgery 235, surgery weight 212, current weight 191.

That's sounds yummy! I went to Costco today they had plenty samples. I'm pre op. I tried a sample of Greek yogurt with honey drizzled on and it was really good.

  7. Have u tried switching up food, I was on stall for 1 week, decided to switch it up by oatmeal with yogurt for Breakfast twice a week, 1 egg with 1 oz of cheese, 1 day, the other days Protein shake with fruit. lunch salad, with chicken or ff ham. Or cottage cheese with fruit or protein, Supper protein salad or broccoli/ cauliflower. This seemed to help lost 2 lbs, after that 1week stall, Do not forget take your measurements sometimes that scale is not our friend, inches are just as important. I had my surgery march 8 down 33 lbs, 16 inches from a size 20 to a 14 already. I get on the scale everyday, only because I know this will keep me on track, it also helps me plan on my meals during the day, but this is not for everyone, some need to only get on that scale once a week, and measure yourself once aweek The stall will end, you will lose loads of weight

    If I COULDA....I WOULDA...

P.S. I'm supposed to have 3 protein shakes a day and added fruit isn't on the list, but I opted to try 2 shakes instead of 3 and add the fruit. (And cottage cheese) Tommorow I'll try to do 3 protein drinks and see how I do. I also bought some plain Greek yogurt to fill in for and shakes I skip.

    If I COULDA....I WOULDA...

Today was better...sort of. Had my am shake blended with 1/2 banana. Lunch shake plain blended with Ice. Drank couple glasses of water and an ice tea. Then lean cuisine at dinner. Was still hungry so ate a cup of steamed broccoli. Then a couple bites of plain yogurt. I'm still hungry, but heading to bed. It's hard to go from 2000-3500 calories a day to 900....

    Pouring salt in my wound....

I'm on day 4 of my preop diet..and decided to make my "Own" tastier Lean Cuisine type meal tonite. I took chicken mixed with Greek yogurt and curry...to be put on top of broccoli with a smidge of cheese and heated up. But while mixing the chicken mixture, I decided to add some fresh ground Himalayan salt The entire lid came off and dumped salt everywhere!! I carefully tried to scoop most of it out and had to vacuumed the rest. I was Soooo hungry I tried to eat it anyway. Alas. It sucked and couldn't finish the chicken. I want some frigging pizza! But fear not...I won't.
  11. Just got moved to full liquids today!!!! Can not wait to have some cream soup, yogurt, and oatmeal :-)
  12. It's officially one week ago today and I'm getting better everyday. I get to start eating yogurt and creamy soups today. I'm so excited to try something other than broth. I'm still having some gas pains occasionally and they do hurt! Is anyone else feeling this? Hope everyone else is doing well. You're all in my prayers and God bless!!!

    Dairy troubles ???

Is anyone else having a problem with dairy? Not the actual eating/getting dairy products down, but the digestion? It almost feels like I am lactose intolerant now!! I had a yogurt, cheese, and some ice cream (not all together!) but in total today and my trips to the bathroom have been more than frequent (to be polite! :kiss ) Anyone else have any input on this?

    Sliming

Must have been the yogurt in the smoothie -won't do that again - Thanks
  15. Many good comments have been made on this thread. So true, the new stomach lets you know right away what is good or bad for your situation. My head tells me one thing and my stomach can tell me a totally different thing. I learned real quick that anything too sweet or too greasy is very hard for my new stomach to tolerate. Also if I overeat I have to stop eating right away or it really feels uncomfortable and I feel like I am going to vomit. I try to get in 3 meals and I have some snacks. I try to eat healthier snacks such as Nuts, Sun Chips, frozen lowfat Yogurt ect... If I have too much to eat at a meal, I save part of it and wait until the feeling of being too full goes away then I eat the rest when I feel better. I can only eat about 1 1/2 oz. then I start feeling uncomfortable, stop eating and in about 15-30 minutes I can finish another 1 1/2 oz. or so for a total of about 3 oz. for one meal. For an example, the diet menu Fresco Ranchero chicken soft taco at Taco Bell is one of my favorite and I can only eat half of it and then I can eat the rest of it in 15-30 minutes. That is a big change from my usual 3-5 tacos before the surgery. The surgery sure took away my stomach hunger. I eat now because I know that I need to eat or I am trying to get more protein. Before surgery I felt hungry most of each day. I wanted to eat and wanted to really eat alot of what tasted real good. But now that I have had the sleeve everything is so different. I do still have my moments, but they are less than before and I am learning more and more everyday. I wish you all the best. It all does get easier as time goes by, especially when you can eat regular foods instead of the milkshakes and liquids.

    March Roll Call!

Surgery was a week ago tomorrow. My last sore incision felt significantly better today, it had really been pinching until then (it's deeply puckered, I call it my button tuft incision). I'm able to eat between 3 & 5 tbls of food a day, depending on thickness. 2 - 3 tbls of broth, or a tbl of yogurt, pudding, or cottage cheese. About 2 tbls of a thick, strained soup. I'm not really ever feeling hungry yet, but I do feel a bit gurgly once or twice a day. The pain with drinking has almost subsided. Today I was able to take 3 very small sips with only a few seconds in between. This is the first day I've been able to drink more than one small sip at a time. I stop before there's pain, but there's still pressure. I'm still having a hard time getting more than about 25 oz of any fluid in per day - hopefully it will start getting easier soon. My first post-op is Wed. I'll know scale change then. I'm not expecting much since I'm still taking predisone (allergic reaction to meds from surgery). The meds I have to take are definitely still an obstacle to eating/drinking more. I have to take sucralfate (4x daily) to keep the predisone (2x daily) from irritating my stomach too much, plus the omeprazole (2x daily). Just my meds keep me stuffed for several hours. How is everyone else doing?
  17. I had read about sliming but didn't experience it until today - I experienced it while I was drinking a blueberry smoothie made with yogurt - does anyone know if it was the smoothie that did it or is there a particular kind of drink or food that causes it - I am 12 days post-op and this is the first experience with it I have had. Thanks!

    Kaiser Permanente Insurance

Yep, about 2 oz at a time. I just sip on it and put it back in the fridge. But I do agree with you, I think he will start me on solids sooner. I will get more details at me 2 week check up. However, he did give me an example of scrambled eggs, tuna salad, yogurt & soft cheese as the next step. I hope it's soon - I'm so hungry! I still can't believe how well you're doing! And, you better believe none of this is coming back! Take care and have a wonderful evening!

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!

Yaaaaaaay! I'm glad you're having a great day and congrats on the weight loss! That makes sense about the headaches too. What level is your gas at now? I'm so ready to move past this stage. For days post-op every time I burped I felt like throwing up. The pain was nuts as the gas rolled up my esophagus. Now it just happens when I eat (sugar free pudding and yogurt now) or drink. Also I still have a lot of lower stomach bloating. How about you? Again I'm so glad you are having a great day!!!

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!

Day One: Came home from hospital veeery dopy and tired. No pain but LOTS of trapped air. Sipping is very uncomfortable. Had a significant hiatial hernia repaired which they said will cause me the majority of my pain. Day Two: Took Vicodine on schedule throughout the day. Slept the majority of time. Only awake for about 4 hours total. Could only get apx. 24 oz. fluids down. Feeling tired and shaky. Day Three: Stopped the pain med's. Too much sleepiness. Not much pain but incisions are very tender, have to protect them from jumping cats and cuddly kids. Better on fluids but it's still very uncomfortable when liquid hits my sleeve. More energy today. Day Four: Got up and drank four oz. of diluted warm apple juice over the course of 20 minutes. Went down so much easier than the previous days. Incisions are still very tender but they don't look bad or infected, just sore. My goal for fluids is 60 oz. and I hope that the diluted apple juice will help me get there. I've had a few moments of 'head hunger'. My daughter was eating a bologna and cheese sandwich and I wanted a bite so bad....but the thought of chewing actually made my stomach act crazy and made me nauseous. I am looking forward to having yogurt and pudding next week when my pureed stage begins. One thing I've caught on to.....as soon as I sip a fluid I have to jump up and walk. When the liquid hits my sleeve it feels like it displaces a big air bubble. The walking actually helps the air come out as a burb. So it's Sip...Walk...Burb...Repeat. All in all my surgery team said I am having an excellent recovery...very positive, low pain, no regret. My doc assured me that starting at a low bmi would cut any risks in half and cause recovery to be much smoother. So far so good! I am wishing everyone else a speedy recovery!!

    Triple Zero

Looks good. I'll try them in place of my Activia Light yogurt. Too bad they come in 5 oz. portions, though. The 4 oz. Activia's are a better size for me.

    March Roll Call!

Hey Wheetsin - thanks for the update! Sorry to hear you're still having some discomfort though. I don't know where you are on your food -- although it sounds like you're in the soft/mushy phase, but for me, I eat 1-2 greek yogurts in a day (12g-14g each), and get the rest of my protein through tuna, chicken, pork and eggs. However, if there's a day where I just can't get it all in, I have the "protein shots" - they're 3.5 ounces and you can either drink them alone (although they taste really icky), or like me, I put mix them in 20oz of water, and it's palatable (barely), but still 42g of protein. And by the way, 53lbs!!! Way to go!!

    March Roll Call!

I seem to be more hungry in the evening as well. I can also eat about 1/2 cup of food. I can do six ounces of yogurt but it takes me awhile.
  25. The average bariatric patient does not get a massive amount of anything. At almost 6 months out I use about 7 ounces of premiere protein shake daily in my coffee...you said before that you do this to. I do not eat protein bars, only an ounce or less of natural cheese a day, plain Greek yogurt maybe 3 times a month and have not had milk in over 6 months. I do take the recommended calcium citrate. Sorry but this particular rant is really crazy. Fat people are getting cancer because that eat massive amounts of dairy? Post a link to that study please, I would really like to see it and share with some of my friends at high risk for breast cancer due to family history.
