i was sleeved 8/6 and i had the same issue for the first 2 weeks. a couple of times i took a small mouthful, chewed and spit. i just wanted to feel texture in my mouth and have some flavor. it actually worked and i felt satisfied. now i have started with the mushy foods...yogurt, cottage cheese, creamed soups. it is very hard to eat. you eat so little and feel so full. this will pass too and soon we will all find our own "normal" routine. don't listen to your brain, tell it your body is in charge now.

I just had my two week post op visit and was told I'm doing good. Had a couple of incision sites that were infected but antibiotics cleared that up. I started yogurt and soup early, my nut said it was ok as long as I could tolerate it. I've lost 18lbs so I'm happy and I'm walking about 1/4 mile a day. My only concern is I like the Greek yogurt by stony field (blueberry flavor) and my nut says its a good source of protein (13 grams) however I don't think either of us realized that each cup has 15 grams of sugar! Is that too much or will it be ok? I haven't heard back from the Dr. Office yet.

I don't have a nut. I am eating less than 1200 cal a day. I feel very full when I eat a Beriwise Protein bar. I do not know how much I eat each time. I eat till I am feeling good but not full. I do eat a lot of fresh fruit, yogurt and cheese -
Today is POD 4, I switched over to full liquids today! I did good yesterday getting all my fluids in with minor gas and discomfort. Today we went to whole foods store to get soy yogurt and chai tea concentrate. While there my hubby made himself a lunch from their awesome hotbar and I got some of the turkey soup broth with no chunks. Oh boy that was good. I also picked up a small cup of chicken and dumpling soup, I plan on ninja blending it down to a liquid tomorrow..

Getting sick after morning meds/vitamins
MegPRN replied to TripleM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a multivitamin and 2 calcium citrate pills in the morning. I usually eat Greek yogurt for breakfast, and drink coffee with half and half. I used a generic calcium citrate for a few days, but noticed the nausea got so bad so fast that I was vomiting nearly every morning, whether I had food in my stomach or not. I switched to a name-brand calcium citrate, and I was good for a while, but lately I've been noticing some creeping nausea every morning again. It's now to the point where I get severely nauseated, feel like I'm going to vomit, and then I sneeze and the nausea goes away. I did the same thing with morning sickness when I was pregnant. Weird! I don't have a solution, unfortunately, other than maybe try a different brand of vitamin? Might help for a little while, anyway. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it. -
Hello, I just wanted to share my story. I was on a fb group through the weight center that did my surgery on 12/5 but they didn't let me share my story. I went in for my sleeve surgery but shortly after while in recovery my BP dropped really low, I started sweating badly and my skin/eyes turned gray. They gave me a blood transfusion which brought my BP back up. I was brought in for an emergency surgery because I was bleeding out. They said leaked 3 liters of blood and had multiple large dark blood clots in my stomach. I was bleeding and oozing through the staples so they double stitched me and cauterized some of the stomach. Since the 2 surgeries I have had very high pulse, which they call Tachycardia. Also, I am anemic. I also get this uncontrolled diaphram spasm where it makes me gasp for air. The 1st week it hurt to swallow anything, even a sip of water. I started to get pain up my throat so they gave me heartburn meds which helped that matter. I went home after spending a few nights at the hospital but quickly after I was home I went back into the ER for low BP and dehydration. I am home again now, monitoring my BP. I am taking fluids ok and getting my proteins in. I still have to drink slow but I am able to. You can feel/hear every sip go down and every pill go down. I still get times where there is pressure from air stuck under the rib cage and the pain goes up to my shoulder. They just ok'd me to start cream soups, yogurt and cottage cheese 2 days ago. I get full really fast. I just wanted you to know that the 1% they warn you about can happen. It happened to me and I cry myself to sleep about the events that happened every time I close my eyes. It was very scary to go through. They said it will take about 6 weeks for my body to rebuild its own blood back up. Your body rejects some of the transfusion since it isn't your blood. Until then I get weak, dizzy and lightheaded every time I get up to walk around and my pulse goes really high and my heart beats out of my chest. I have a couple of mins to walk or shower and then I need to lay back down to catch my bearings. I am starting to get color back in my lips on occasion. The most important thing is I keep fighting to get up every day, walk a little and drink my fluids in order to get better. They tell you that you need support at home and I live alone so I was worried. They are right, you can't do this alone. After the ER trip it helped to have my parents coming in to remind me to keep drinking and to do things around the house that I couldn't. Thank you for listening. 1 week until 3 week post-op diet, any suggestions?
Jersrose43 replied to finallyfree101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
7 weeks?!? Wow god bless you During purée I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and pork and turkey in my cuisinart and added liquids to make it a little purée The pork I gotta say I added BBQ sauce just a little so I could get the taste. -
I guess it's have to say I'm one of the lucky ones, as I've not experienced and of the negative effects I've seen such as nausea, vomiting, gas pains, cold chills, etc... I'm following my Dr's plans to a T and it's been smooth sailing for me, and I'm 4 days post op and starting on regular liquids today. Was able to have 2 protein shakes and a nonfat Greek yogurt today, and thankfully, no issues... Good Luck Everyone that is experiencing issues, I hope it gets better for you all.

I have shared my rules for avoiding PBing on other threads, but I will also post them here. Since following these rules, I have gone from PBing nearly every week, to PBing one time in almost three months: 1. liquids only for Breakfast (protein shake which includes 100% of essential Vitamins and minerals) 2. Soft/easy to eat food for lunch: chili, cheese, Soup, Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna salad, anything mushy 3. Wine before dinner, 1-2 glasses every night (then normal dinner). 4. If I am ravenous, absolutely no solid food, but take a Protein shake or drink wine before eating. Since following these, my PB situation has improved very dramatically. In fact, the one time in nearly three months I did PB, it was because I did not follow rule #4. As long as I follow the rules, I am golden. I hate Pbing more than anything, and am so grateful to have found a protocal that works for me.

How much Fluid and Protein does your doctor require? My doctor says 64 ozs liquids and 60 grams protein. It is tough getting there, but now I can do it. I'm not drinking protein drinks, other than my one fallback of lime or orange Jello mixed with pina colada flavored Protein Powder. I get a lot of my protein from my Greek yogurt, which has 23 grams per cup. It also counts as a liquid. For a few days, I was not getting the full 64 ozs of fluid and developed the signs of dehydration. Stepped up the fluids and I'm good to go now.

Where the May sleevers i just got my date!
ontoanewlife replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can totally relate. I'm 8 days post-op today and have struggled with variety. My MD told me that during the 2 weeks of full liquids you can have anything that you could potentially drink through a straw (but you don't use a straw). So I have made: smoothies with 4 strawberries, 1/2 a banana, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1/4 cup Greek yogurt and 1 choc premiere shake or just by itself without the premier shake. I have made cream of chicken soup. I have had cream of rice mixed to a thin mixture with Trader Joes strawberry smoothie. I'm sure you could also try other cream soups as well. I eat a couple of popsicles a day. I personally don't eat the sugar free ones because they have Aspartame and the calories are not that different if you ask me. Trader Joes has a fabulous Red Pepper soup and other soups such as butternut squash and carrot. Just some ideas. Hope it helps. Good luck. I'm also looking forward to pureed foods so I can have even more variety. -
Where the May sleevers i just got my date!
Mickie Vest replied to Luvlvnlyfe5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 7th and haven't had any issues. I was kept 1 extra day in the hospital because of not peeing (seriously). I did eventually pee and was released. I'm on clears for 2 weeks which seems like a lot to me but I have medication I take mixed into some yogurt. I have my 1st follow up appointment with my surgeon and NUT on Monday. Overall I'm feeling really good and I can't wait to eat something solid but I guess I have awhile to wait for that. -
It’s so funny how different each surgeon’s post op directions seem. My surgeon allows small curd cottage cheese and apple sauce/yogurt in the full liquid phase, so that is helping me feel like I’m actually eating something non-liquid. I’m worried about developing lactose intolerance post-op, but fingers crossed nothing has been too bad so far. Are you guys getting the loose stool thing already?

I mix cocoa powder into one of the ultra-light vanilla yogurts - like Light & Fit or Carbmaster. That'll do the trick as well - plus give you a boost of protein, too! -

I love most flavors of Greek yogurt, but my absolute fave is this Caramel Apple Pie yogurt. Has chunks of baked apple in it and it really hits the spot!! -

Whipped cream! Very few cals for major decadence. Also the pumpkin spiced version tastes like a whole pumpkin pie so on coffee, yogurt, jello, etc. I imagine it would be perfect Walmart: Aldi (seasonal?) : This is a double serving of pumpkin spice (12g - 30 cals - 2 carb - 2 fat) 😍 -

Having a hard time getting my fluids in also after I drink my tummy gets a little hurt... Tomorrow I start milk, yogurt, etc! Hopefully, I can tolerate it well. -
Share your "slow loss" success!
Supersweetums replied to clk's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I would say, by definition, I was a slow loser. I had a total of 80.5 lbs that I wanted to lose to my goal after I had my surgery. In the first 6 months, I lost 55 lbs. Then, it slowed to a crawl. In the next 6 months, I lost 21.5 lbs I stalled at this point for 3 months and I actually thought I might be done losing, then I lost 3 more pounds, now at 15 months post op. Once again I stalled for about 2 months and thought I was done losing, still about 5 or so pounds from goal, but I was really that worried about those 5lbs. Then, 18 months post op, I hit my goal weight of 140lbs and 80.5 lbs lost. In the months following, I dropped a few more pounds! Now I have a 3-4 pound weight fluctuation. My cycle is a major factor in how much I weigh, so I try not to let it bother me. I can go up as much as 2 or 3 lbs during ovulation and 3-4 lbs during TOM. My weight loss near the end only really occurred in the 2 weeks in between Tom and ovulation, so I highly encourage women to really pay attention to their bodies. I also get wicked cravings and have a very hard time not wanting to eat everything in my path. How do I cope with the cravings? I do not keep anything in my house that I know I will eat. Now I am over 2 years post op and have not had many issues maintaining for the last 8 months. I am still learning as I go and I still make mistakes. But over all I would say I eat healthy 90% of the time, and 10% of the time I don't. If I am going to be truthful, I never counted anything (calories, carbs, protein), I never weighed anything, and I don't exercise by definition regularly. I did follow my post op guidelines. I rarely eat bread (but I will eat garlic bread when out for supper) and I eat very little other "white carbs" like rice, Pasta, flour, sugar (notice that I did not say never). I do not drink with my meals, I still occasionally drink Protein shakes, I eat a lot of greek yogurt sweetened with stevia, drink 2% milk, eat nuts, and enjoy veggies AND fruits. I will still have an ice cream cone once in a while, I will still eat chocolate and I will still have other treats as well. I just do not keep them in my house so they are not tempting because I do not have any more will power now than before surgery if food is sitting in front of me (hence a 4 lbs weight gain over Christmas that I am happy to report is all gone again). I wanted to make changes that I know I could live with, maintain, and be happy with for the rest of my life. I am happy with the weight I lost, and even though it was slower in the "sleeve" world, it was still faster than any other time I had tried to lose weight in my life. My new habits are firmly entrenched, and even if I stumble now (like Christmas), it is not difficult to get my head back in the game. I would not change what I did and how I did it and I love this tool that I have been given! -

Yogurt With 2X Protein
LosingItForMe2011 replied to mary2008's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My nutritionist said up to 14 grams of sugar or less and only 5-6 grams of fat per serving allowed. Sugar in yogurt and milk is different than table sugar as well. -

green replied to Band-aided's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congratulations, Jetlag. :clap2: I was banded by Dr. Yau last Sept and I found the post op diet fairly easy to get through. The trick is to eat many mini-meals during that period when you are on fluids and on purees. This doesn't stress out your new stomach and yet you have the sense that you are constantly eating. I would have breakfast, a little snack, lunch, another petit snack, dinner, and then a final small snack. This meant I was taking in a lot of small, light, and low calorie meals. When it came to the time of full liquids I bought Gardenay soups. I figured I was worth it. Because I don't have much of a sweet tooth I substituted tzatziki for the fruit flavoured yogurts which TLBC recommends. During the clear fluid period I drank a lot of broth and apple juice. I had real problems with the protein drinks. This is because I actively dislike sweet drinks. I relied heavily on chewable vitamins. I still do. And I used a pill crusher for just about everything else, including the demerol. (This gadget is very useful and you might want to buy yourself one.)
