    Yogurt 1 week post op

While I was allowed yogurt as soon as I started full liquids - on day 3 post op, I didn't actually try it until two days before my 2 week post op appointment. Honestly, before that I don't think i would have done well with it because of the thickness. even when I did try it - I only had one ounce very slowly per day for a while, then 2 ounces. Last week (week 8 post op) was the first time I ate a half carton (little over 2.5oz) at a time. So this early out - if you're struggling, back off it for a while and try it again in another week or so.

    Yogurt 1 week post op

It might be too soon fro you. Even though the food stages exist as guidelines, they just mean you can TRY those foods at those times, not that you HAVE to be eating them then. Everyone heals at a different rate. Have you tried drinkable yogurt (the stuff for kids?). I actually started that before moving onto thicker yogurt.
  3. Ok. I'm going to stop apologizing for all of the questions cause clearly, they just keep coming. I was sleeved on 8/8 and am still not able to eat yogurt very easily. I'm on liquids but can also do Jello, yogurt and sugar free pudding. I've done fine with everything else but still struggling with the yogurt. Did anyone else have this problem? Maybe I'm just trying too soon?
  4. I am 11 days past surgery. Every time I eat, my stomach feels backed up. Almost like my food takes a really long time to go down. It hurts a little bit. Even if I eat just 3 or 4 bites, spaced out. It takes me so long to eat just a few bites of yogurt. Anyone else experience this? I don't remember anyone telling me that this would happen, but then I wasn't exactly fully coherent before I left the hospital. It's making me nervous. ~~ LadyDarkness415 ~~

    3days post op from sleeve

I still have my gas pains in shoulder, yes the left one.Still only on clear liquids and unsweetened applesauce for crushed pills. The acid pill tastes horrible. A little belly gas pain but gas x strips seem to help.post office visit tomorrow and they may move me to full liquid diet, protein shakes, nonfat yogurt creamed soups....
  7. Went for my sleeve on 8/11 - definitely in the same boat. I wanted to see my other options aside from Water, power aide zero, crystal light, sugar free Jello, and broth. I bought sugar free pudding, plain low fat yogurt, and no sugar added apple sauce but I was under the impression that can't be introduced until the second week. Did you hear the same thing? How's your pain at this point? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Hello everyone, I saw my surgeon in June of this year and I had my surgery on August 4th, 2016. Surgery was great it only took an hour and from the time I was put under to woke up was only 3 hours'ish. Post surgery was easy, sips of Water, walking around, peeing in a container. This was my very first surgery in my life. Took my medicine by mouth no problem, no nausea, no catheter, and no real pain, all good stuff. I woke up ate some chicken broth drank more water and went home. Went back to work this past Friday. I am a little over a week post op and have lost 17 pounds. Still no real pain just slight discomfort if I move quick. I have mowed my yard and continue back working out the day week 1 was over so back to 4 miles a day, tried running but it felt weird so back to walking. Doctor said no lifting tried push-ups and sit-ups. Both doable but felt weird. Eating is fun honestly. I'm on creamy stuff this week and I love Soups and yogurts and Protein shakes so it fits. Lil worried about the amount I'm I taking but will see how the weight is a month out, appointment on the 29th so a few days short. I feel like I am eating all the time now compared to before surgery I'd only eat maybe twice a day due to work and schedule. I am excited for week 3 mushy foods. I have yet to feel full or anything so I'm hoping this next week I may get that chance. I still don't feel hungry and I am not experiencing hunger pains. I will most definitely keep you all up to date. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hello everyone love the forum, been a lurker for a month or so I needed to chime in so I created an account. I got my surgery (VSG) on 8/4/16. At 1 week I was down 17 lbs. this week(past couple days) I'm in the creamy week. So ever since surgery I haven't had a full feeling and I feel like I eat and drink quite a lot even from before surgery standards. Constantly sippin Water which I know is good. I was told to increase my Protein which I have for as of the start of this week which adds even more "food" to my diet. On a normal day I eat: Breakfast: oatmeal mixed with my Protein powder (half scoop) and mixed with almond milk. Ends up being 4oz can't get it down too much because i hate oatmeal so I switched to applesauce which is cool. Snack:8-9oz Protein shake (which I can drink in about 5 minutes because I don't feel any tightness or anything) I don't drink it that quick but I sip on it til completion. Lunch: 4oz of yogurt mixed with almond milk(told to soften it up) which I down in about 5-10mins. Again no full or painful feelings. Snack: 8-9oz Protein Shake again sip until empty Dinner: 4oz of a puréed Soup. Snack: A Jello pudding mixed with coconut water and half a scoop of protein powder. This is a average diet I was told to stick with but I feel is a lot of food. I am seeing weight come off but, my real question is the full feeling is never present, I think it may be because I'm being cautious but like I said I feel like the food I am eating and the amounts maybe small or something but my doctors said I should hit a full filling after consuming 8oz of anything but it hasn't happened yet. Any tips/suggestions? Since my last appointment (3 days ago) I'm already down about 7lbs. I am already working out 'ish again and have a lot of energy. I take my Multivitamins and Calcium. The protein I am drinking is Jay Robb's, I have the vanilla and chocolate kind.

    Grocery Stores

I avoid added sugars, not all sugars. I just try to keep the sugar content low. I especially avoid high fructose corn syrup. For instance, when looking at a Greek yogurt I aim for a Protein content greater than 10 grams and sugar content of less than 10 grams.

    3 days post op troubles

It is amazing how much the different plans vary. I was on a "high Protein low/no sugar liquid diet" for 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2+ weeks after. I was allowed to have no sugar added Greek yogurt as a "liquid" though. At almost 2.5 weeks on my post op followup, the doc just gave me the ok to start the pureed foods and scrambled egg is included in that. I ate it for the first time on Friday night and apparently overate and got sick too. I thought it was going down well, but when I got the full signal, it was actually an overfull signal. I'm learning. Like others have stated, the egg is probably too much at this stage. Also, I couldn't get hardly anything down for that first week. I think the stomach was quite swollen inside. I threw up from one bit of pudding. At one week post op, it seemed like it magically changed and I was suddenly able to get all my protein and liquid in that day. So give it a little more time and take care of that newly altered stomach of yours. Also in the hospital, the one nurse made me sit the bed up a bit and then wrote in big letters on my board that the bed had to be no lower than a 30 degree incline. She stressed it. (No one else mentioned it.) But at home, I propped pillows up, like you mentioned and it definitely helped. 2.5 weeks post op, I'm flat again. But don't lay down right after eating OR drinking. Like someone else mentioned, my doctor requires all meds be crushed or split (into nerd candy size pieces) for several months. I chop them up and put them in a bite of pudding and they go down well. You might want to try that. I bet your stomach is fighting to try to dissolve them. Good luck, dear. Hang in there. It gets easier. I'm not too many days ahead of you, but it does get easier. It all is a learning process though. BTW, today I ate another egg and stopped in time and didn't get sick. Yay! LOL.

    Very emotional

Hi Stacy! I had the sleeve gastrectomy on August 9th 2016 (this past Tuesday). Today is the first day I have begin having full liquids like yogurt (only 2 tablespoons at a time) and I also am not fond of the Protein shakes already. I'm looking forward to having Greek Yogurt, eggs, etc. in the future to take care of my protein intake. But until then, I remind myself that my stomach is healing, and I need to take care of it the best ways I can! And that means being a good, cooperative patient and doing what the professionals tell me. Emotionally, I have had a lot of ups and down. One minute I'm questioning if this surgery was the right decision, and the next minute I'm excited to see the number change on the scale. I'm a recovering binge eater, and I used to use food to feed my emotions all the time. So, now post-op, I'm experiencing all kinds of emotions and I can't go back to my old habits the way I want to. I know its going to take a long time to re-train my brain in terms of emotions and food. Right now I'm trying to focus on fueling my body so it can heal as fast and well as possible. I made this decision and went through with the surgery. There's no turning back. So no matter what emotions you may be feeling, that will not change the fact that you gotta do what you gotta do now for yourself and your tummy. I look forward to the day when I will be able to experience some enjoyment with food, but at the same time, I don't want my life to revolve around food the way it used to be. I gotta keep telling myself that there is NO way that a life of binge eating and obesity could possibly be better than a life of health and self-care. I think what you are feeling is NORMAL and expected, so try and find some comfort in that. I truly believe that each day will get better, and we are still in the early stages of post-op, so this is definitely expected to be the hardest time of all. If we can get through this, we can get through anything this surgery throws at us down the line. Thank you for posting your comment because it gave me a reason to express my own thoughts and experience so far for the first time on this app. I think this is a great tool and I'm happy to have it. I hope you find some peace today. ~S
  13. I'm a little more than 9 mos out and am pretty happy with the progress that I have made and the good fortune that I have had in terms of avoiding major complications. I am continuing to struggle with some food aversions that are beginning to concern me and are making it difficult to eat a varied diet. It started with chicken, which the mere thought of eating is completely revolting to me. I'm also increasingly feeling that way now about things like shrimp and pork. All of these are things that I liked before surgery. Making matters worse, I have never really liked fish, so I'm starting to run low on types of meat that I can readily eat. I still consistently hit my daily Protein target, but that is largely with the help of things like Protein Bars, Greek yogurt, small amounts of cheese, and things like chili. I've mentioned this to my nutritionist, but she has not really had any advice apart from emphasizing the importance of eating a varied diet. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Were you able to do anything to improve things?

    Post Op Food Suggestions

I stayed on Protein shakes for the first four weeks. They satisfied me and I didn't want to add back foods like oatmeal and yogurt. I wanted to lose weight and those foods simply weren't relevant with my personal goals. Some folks swear by them. To each his own. That type of stuff simply makes me want more of it and as a result I'd likely sit around and think about food vs. having something healthy that took care of my needs.....and move on and get stuff done until cellphone alarm reminded me hours later it was meal time. When I resumed food.....one the most helpful foods I found were the foil packs of flavored tuna. They made for great lunches at work. I also found that loved grilled chicken breast, chopped, shredded and very lightly sauced. There are Tyson frozen pre-cooked chicken breasts in the freezer section of the grocery store. Very easy to prepare. Baked fish was another oft eaten food. Omelettes, too. Wendy's chili I did try....was a little concerned about the spice aspects but found that I had zero trouble. It worked just fine.

It has been 9 days only and you were able to drink Water, have your chicken with potatoes as well as some yogurt?? I am scared for you a little. I am three months out and I still have to wait an hour before I move on to the second part of an item in my already portioned meal. Maybe I am very paranoid about stretching it.. 16. I have to disagree! As someone who spends most of my time in my car (self employed), there are a lot of great things one can eat on the go. Chick Filet's grilled nuggets are fabulous. Add a side salad if you are at that stage, perfect. They will also do their Breakfast sandwiches in a bowl sans the bread if you ask. Sonic makes a great junior breakfast burrito and if you peel off the tortilla and just eat the insides, it's perfect. Which wich will put any sandwich in a lettuce wrap. (Subway will, too, but I don't care for their options.) Chipotle kids' meals are great. McD's egg mcmuffin minus the top is good and with all day breakfast, it's a win! Egg drop Soup and steamed shrimp and veggies can be had at any Chinese restaurant. WaWa and other convenience stores sell boiled eggs, cheese sticks, yogurt, hummus, etc. It was 103 today. No packed breakfast/lunch would have held up in my car, so I'm often forced to find great choices out. My best option is going to whatever market is nearby and visiting the deli for a few thin slices of meat and cheese. Usually costs about $2 and I get weird looks when I ask for 2 slices of each, but I don't care.
  17. The hernias, heartburn, and small issues are easy to deal with. You never have to worry about meal planning if you have yogurt, cottage cheese, rotisserie chicken, smoked salmon, tuna, veggies, PB2, Proteins, etc. on hand. I love this simple life after a lifetime of cooking hearty meals. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. I was! My daily activity included swimming and martial arts so my doctor approved unlimited non starchy veggies along with an additional serving of lean proteen (sic).. (My pre op diet was two proteen (sic) drinks, one snack of Greek yogurt and 4oz of lean meat and veggies.) If you are very active, talk to your doctor!

    3 days post op troubles

On my post surgery food, it says slowly introduce flaky fish, ricotta cheese, hummus, Greek yogurt, egg (scrambled). I asked the nurse if it was okay if I stayed on liquid for a little while longer because I didn't feel ready for any of that; and she said yes. But I was experimenting with the scrambled egg since they gave it to me within 24 hours after surgery, but if that's what's causing the problem, then I'll wait. I agree with what the other's said....What does your plan say you should be doing now?...does it say an egg is okay??....My plan at 3 days out, I was on full liquids which included things like Greek yogurt, strained creamed Soups, sugar free pudding, broths, and Protein shakes.......You may also want to check with your doctor about a medication for nausea. Good luck to you.

  23. Not sure when I last posted here. I'm down 29 lbs at 5 weeks post op. My number one thing right now is planning, planning, planning. Planning is the master key to getting in all your protein and fluids and keep up with a busy day. Pack cheese and yogurt even if you don't think you'll need it. It's saved me! Also, everyone notices my weight loss. Most people tell me I look younger, and that my skin is glowing. Best decision ever.

  25. After a history of surgeries including gall bladder, female issues resulting in a hysterectomy appendix and a few others I though I was gong to be ok. I went back to college after a 20 year hiatus as well as working full time. Then in December of 2011 during finals week I awoke with the worst pain ever. I was rushed to the ER only to find that I had a soccer ball sized mass wrapped around my left kidney causing it to just about rupture..thankfully the doctors and the grace of God saved the kidney and then removed the mass. After a week of being home is when the disaster actually started. you see my colon perforated which caused everything in my intestine to fill into my abdominal cavity and then rip my incision open..in short I ended up with a colostomy then a reversal and then several hernia repairs. Sadly this past February my full abdominal mesh became infected resulting in 2 majors surgeries to remove. I needed to lose weight before the mesh could be replaced however after all my surgeries the surgeon was very reluctant. I went on phentermine and it did help however you cannot stay on it forever. Then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, the my numbers hit diabetic type 2 levels and with being in menopause it was so hard to get the weight to stay off...Finally my surgeon agreed to the gastric sleeve. After 6 months of of going through all the insurance mumbo jumbo I had the sleeve done on August 8th 2016.I started in March of 2016 at about 241 ponds and right before the surgery was 199 pounds.I just came home yesterday after having the surgery and was put on a heart medication due to my heart rate unable to stay at a low and healthy number. I feel ok but this Jello diet is already old...lol..after my colon perforated in 2011 I was on broth and jello for 2 months..so you can see those 2 things are not my favorite. I think the hardest part right now is the drinking..I am not a huge drinker so staying hydrated is a challenge..I do like popsicles so my husband is on the lookout for sugar free ones which will definitely help. Once I get to the stage of yogurt I think I will be ok.. As you can see I have had a long hard road and I thank you all in advance for offering me a group to look to for help. I am so afraid that going off the phentermine is going to make my weight increase quickly and I do not want that. any advice is greatly accepted and appreciated. God Bless to you all
