  1. Well I sit here with all the hope I have been able to muster in years...knowing that I will be banded in September. I feel full of hope and excitement knowing this COULD be the answer for me.... then I read the posts where bandsters have gained their weight back, or that it isn't working well for them...and I'm back to feel sad and worried that I will be let down... I know that it is a tool....but what if it works like every other thing I've tried and it works until I loose motivation or until I learn to trick myself.... Ugh...now I'm wondering if it is even worth it...why build myself up to just get let down again if I can't be strong enough?:cursing:

    Fears

I'm 8 days post op and I'm having the same thoughts. I try to tell myself is not rational! I think it's hard to wrap the mind around such a big thing our bodies just went through. I'm going to stay positive, as the weight comes off regularly and I know how to control my food I think I'll be feeling better. As of right now, I just can't eat!! Fears

Going great! I am down 52 pounds since August 2016. I'm working hard to learn new habits and not allow anything to happen to make me regain all my weight. I'm hoping my fears will keep me in line!
  4. Duno if anyone else attended a weight loss seminar but for those that did, how long roughy after the seminar did you get the surgery. I have yet to go to the seminar but really nervous/exited about my new life ahead xx
  5. Been married a long time 29 yrs and mother in law came over yesterday to visit and when my husband went out the room to chat to his dad, she had a whole lot of negative stuff to say about my surgery even though I'm 6 months out. She said she thinks people who lost a lot of weight look really old and cited a couple of examples here in the uk both of whom are on their 70's and I'm still in my 40's. She went in and on that she's worried about me and how I won't be able to stop losing weight and that I will look horrible skinny and old.. not forgetting the old she really laboured that point knowing that looking good is important to me. Jeez this woman is such a cow! I'm sure she preferred me when I was big and fat!
  6. It's so hard I do good then I don't Had my gallbladder out and going back to the doctors for a follow up. I might get a fill I gained like only 20 lbs to maybe 25 lbs back and if course I can't get myself back to doing the right thing. Knowing you can get a fill to help Is great and not so great. Because your suppose to be learning to eat right and change your habits So hard But it's been years now and I am happy at were I am. Sounds stupid over 20 lbs but 20 lbs can turn into 30 lbs and so on So you have to be worried I hope all is well with you. Cancer is not a good thing. I only had to deal with Melanoma. My cousins breast cancer and watched my dad die with his liver not pretty Hope your doing well. And keep up what your doing Everyday as we know it is a struggle We are suppose to get snow today but our snow and yours. Is very different People here in Jersey think they will die one day if they don't run to the store lol. It's pretty funny In glad I came back in here I still need support I think I will always need it

  8. I have really been SLACKING on taking my vitamins the only vitamins I was told to take was a multivitamin, iron, and calcium/vitamin d. However I have added b12 because I see that it is needed as well. My main concern is how do you take all these vitamins in a days time I am not a morning person but I do see that if I don't take my vitamins my body is tired my eyes feel strange and I am always thirsty (not so really hungry) I am a month post-op and I don't want any issues in the long run but I feel some may come up. & do anyone still have to sip their drink? I don't really I know everyone body is different but I want to learn how to maintain my weight even when I reach my goal. What did anyone eat a month post op because I still can't find the right foods that agree with me so most I eat one meal a day when I suppose to eat 3 and it is usually a protein drink/ tuna or a grilled chicken piece. This journey is really a LEARNING PROCESS! But I am determined not to give up!!!

    need help

I do pilates, which has some similarities (lots of core work). My physician told me I could walk and bike immediately, but no pilates or weight lifting for a month.

    need help

My doctor had me walking from day one. I started speed walking 14 days post op. I started upper body weights for toning at three weeks post op. I would call your doctor to find out what restrictions if any he/she has on exercise at post op.

    The waiting game...

It took me over a year to get mine approved and I'm 40! So, although I am not anywhere close to your age, I understand how frustrating it is to deal w/the insurance. In my case, they denied me twice because I lost too much weight two years ago. My BMI had gone below 35 because I was starving myself on Weight Watchers. It was very frustrating to realize that had I NOT tried to take off the weight that last time w/WW, then I would've been approved easily the first time. On the other hand, if I had not tried to take off the weight that last time w/WW, I would not have felt confident that I had really given it my full try before resorting to WLS. So, kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of situation. In the end, I got approved, though, and my head is in a really good place because I had LOTS of time to research it first and prepare. So, as frustrating as this process is, just try to see the passage of time not so much as a waste, but as a time for preparation and readying yourself emotionally, physically, and mentally for the journey ahead that will be the rest of your life. Best of luck to you and I hope you get your approval soon!

I'm watching this show on hbo called the weight of the nation...its really interesting!
  13. I’m one week out from surgery and my husband and best friend are making menhavwbsecond thoughts. They have no idea they both agree. My husband says I’ve had enough surgeries during my lifetime from car accidents and complications post car accident. I’ve also have a history of sepsis (infection) every time I get opens up for surgery. He know what I went through with all that.ni think he’s just afraid of what could happen or me not pulling through this time ans my friend said likewise. I really and and nee this surgery but now I feel like I’m second guessing myself. My initial plan was to have the sleev but the doctor takes me into duodenal switch because it’s less likely for weight gain. I agreed but also has second thoughts about that particular lad surgery just because of all the additional nutrients you malabsorption va the other surgeries. In my head I was also think duodenal would allow me to lose weight faster than the sleeve. Then again i don’t want to loose too much I don’t want to be looking too skinny from excessive weight lost from duodenal (CW 232 GW 150-160). Although not reversible the sleeve is less invasive and not switching around parts. Then again I’ve had a gastric ballon (obera ballon) and maybe lost 10 pound at most so that was also my reasoning for wanting duodenal switch more aggressive than sleeve as to me the obera balloonMimics restriction just like sleeve but it’s temporary. As you can see I’m a week out from surgery and all over the place. HELP!!! Has anyone that is slightly obese or obese who has extremely hard time losing weight even with diet or excercise had success from the sleeve? How fast did you lose weight?
  14. I have aetna too. Go to aetna.com and search obesity surgery. It is article 157. It explains that you have to go thru a 3 month multi discipline or 6 month dr supervised weight loss. I picked the 3 month. I had to see a dietician 4 times and a physical therapist 3 times. I also had to have a phyc eval done. The office will guide you through all of it. You have to lose or maintain your weight during the 3 months and exercise usually 2 to 3 times a week.
  15. Hi you guys! I am new here and this is one of my first couple posts (first time posting in this section). I currently weigh 270lbs and I am 5'5. I am 20 years old. I have been overweight my ENTIRE life. I was an active kid, I played many different sports and was always on the go, yet I was always overweight and I ate healthy also. Obesity runs in my family so I am not sure if that is a contributing factor or not. My grandmother got her stomach stapled in the 80's and my mother had gastric bypass about 6 years ago. So now, I feel like it's my turn to start living a happy healthy lifestyle and I am so very excited to get started. About a month ago I attented a weight loss seminar by Dr. Dennis Smith in Georgia. It went very well and I have my heart set on getting VSG. I filled out my MANY pages of paper work and mailed it into the surgeon this week and I checked my tracking number and his office got my paper work last Thursday. It takes them about two weeks for the surgeon to approve you for the surgery because he won't just operate on anyone. I hope I qualify by the standards of my surgeon. I just had a physical two weeks ago and my PCP said I am extremely healthy and nothing is wrong with me except for my weight so I feel that I am a good candidate for the weight loss surgery and I don't think I should get denied by my surgeon. I am just getting so stressed out dealing with this and going to college and working full time. It's getting to be too much to handle. All I have on my mind is VSG. I just want to be 100% happy again. I mean, I am really happy now. I have a boyfriend of three years and we moved in together this past summer. We've had many talks of engagement soon. So I am living a great life, I just feel trapped in the body of a fat girl and I hate it. Sorry for all the useless information. I feel better already for just saying what I had to say. Thanks for listening!

    Pre-Op Depression???

I did. I think, especially for people who have been large their whole life, that we have tried so long to love ourselves despite our weight and the way society treats "fat" people. We have struggled with showing people our worth despite our weight. Now, we have to accept that their is truely something wrong. Something emotional that attaches itself to the physical. I think that is a hard thing to do. Plus you are being forced to look at yourself as obese, morbidly obese, severely obese, super obese. Whatever the case I think that can be very depressing. We are also breaking off a dear friendship. We have celebrating, cried, intoxicated ourselves with food. At least for me, food has been one of my most loyal friends, and it's like it's moving across the country. Your relationship with food will never be the same. I think depression is normal, in fact I think every emotion you have pre surgery and post surgery is its on "normal". Just express everything to your doctor.
  17. Tamara thank you for responding, congrats to u as well,i am sooooo excited for myself cause i tried so hard to.get to this.point and yesssssss the scale is moving down for me also.2wees post.op and i feel greeeaaattttt...how much weight have u lost so far if.you dont mind answering???
  18. Finally after all these months of doctor visits and weigh in, the day is almost here. It's seems like forever since I began this journey, but everyday I remembered what the end result would be and this my friends kept me on the right path. I'm not nervous, I am so exicited and can't wait to get this weight off, touch my toes, wear a bra that has one letter and not double, be able to go to a normal department store and beable to buy clothing like everyone else (not go to the plus size part of the store that has nothing cute - it fits on the top and fits on the bottom and hell it's the same the size - imagine that!! I just finally might be able to go to Victoria Secrets and finally buy something sexy I realize that this isn't the end of the journey and that forever I will need to always focus on my weight and work hard to keep it maintained. I will never ever look back nor regret my decision. DR. FISHER here I come!!! Wish me luck!

    My "mystery" complications...

KT, Wow... what a story! I am so glad you were persistent with your doc and refused to give up. Many wishes for a full recovery and lots of weight loss success!
  21. Don't worry. It works for everyone if you follow directions. As for hunger, I doubt it is the same hunger you had before surgery. It's different right? The hunger hormone (Ghrelin), that tells the brain your hungry comes mainly from the stomach that you had removed. But, Ghrelin is also made in small amounts in the Pancreas. Usually, if you eat too many carbs, your pancreas can make you somewhat hungry. If you eat slider foods, you will continue that process. You're still at the beginning of your journey. Try eating 70% protein, and the rest veggie carbs. Let it stay in your tummy for a half hour before drinking liquids again, and I bet you'll stay on track. I still drink a 1/2 bottle of isopure a day, to ensure that I get enough protein. Also, I make sure I drink 64 oz of liquids a day. That doesn't mean to say i haven't had times when I stop losing weight. It happens. I have been at the same weight for two weeks, but I am not worried at all. I know that i haven't followed my own rules, due to having company and a weekend trip, etc. I had bad habits for a few weeks. But, i didn't gain any weight, and I am following the rules again. Good luck.

    Other People

Disclaimer: I've never been a person who paid much attention to other people's opinion of me or my actions. I did tell a few people of my decision prior to banding and now tell anyone who asks. The prebanding reactions were mixed but the post banding reactions have all been positive (as in I'm proud of you for taking decisive action). I think most people (unless they've been living under a rock for the past 5 years) realize that weight loss success rates are somewhere between 1-10% without medical intervention. The ones who had negative reactions were mostly due to the fact they didn't understand the lap band procedure is not the gastric bypass procedure. Once I explained the difference, there were even some with less than 40 lbs to lose who were wondering if they could do it because they haven't been able to take the weight off on their own. I have been banded just shy of 6 months now and by some standards, am a slow loser. I'm OK with it but the first 3 months were really tough and I had my doubts. What I know now is that everyone loses at their own pace and not to compare myself to others who lose faster. If I had the chance to go back and reconsider, I would do it all over again.

    Sleeve surgery 06/09/2016

Kristen it will get better. I am 12 days post op and I feel/felt the same way you do right now. My ninja blender has become my best friend. I cannot eat much right now, but I found boiling chicken and breaking it down in the ninja very fine helped me. I use the broth from the chicken I n mashed potato flakes for make substance. And the broth is also a good source of Protein by itself. Now many will probably have a problem with the potato flakes, but the truth is I cant eat enough to stop me from losing weight. I can probably eat 3 or 4 spoons of the mixture. And my surgeon recommended them, because I don't like grits or cream of wheat. I made a batch on Monday and ate it for lunch only Tues - Thurs. For Breakfast I ate egg salad (I can only eat one egg) small bites of soft Turkey bacon. I also drink a carnation breakfast Essential throughout the day (15g protein) and I love Isopure. One Isopure last me three days. I must say you have to get creative to get the food in. It's a job in itself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gallbladder ????

Yes, I had to have my gallbladder removed a few weeks ago when I was about 6 months post op from my band surgery. Mine was considered to be an "atypical presentation", as none of the testing revealed any gallstones (ultrasound and MRI), and my pain was initially on my left side. Then I ended up being hospitalized for pancreatitis. Further testing (HIDA scan) showed that my gallbladder had stopped working entirely, which precipitated the inflamed pancreas. I was experiencing waves of nausea, and then the pain switched to my right side. Since the pancreatitis attacks generally get worse over time, I was advised to have my gallbladder removed. Now there is no more pain, and no more nausea. My significant weight loss apparently exacerbated my gall bladder condition...and no one knows why or when it stopped working.
