    my recent fill

I had my 3 or 4th fill 2-3 weeks ago. My doctor goes very slow with the amounts. Total I have either 2.2 or 2.4cc's. This last fill did it!! Last night I was eating dinner and I couldn't finish. About time. This was also my first fill since February. Tonight we were out for late lunch early dinner or as my MIL calls it luper. We had an early bird and it includes desert. I had vanilla ice cream. Ice cream is a slider food and I eat about 1/4 of a cup and was full. Great feeling. I totally understand no 2 people are a like. What I don't understand is when doctors do large cc's of fills and the bander is unhappy and feels like they need more and I have a little and I am fine. Have a great weekend everyone. I hope my wonderful Red Sox kick ass tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I sleep with two 50 pound dogs and two cats every night. The cats sleep on my pillow and on my tummy. No problems with the "arrangements" post op. One of my 50 pounders also thinks he's a lap dog, so like adargie, I had to confine him to the rest of the couch for a couple weeks. It wasn't the end of the world even though he thought it was. And like Bufflehead, one of my cats launched off the headboard onto my tummy, too. Not the best postop experience, but it only hurt for a moment.

    Hello

Welcome Claire! I completely understand wanting to just survive the recovery phase. Especially those first couple of weeks! I too could give a wink about weight or meds immediately post-op, I just wanted to concentrate on getting some kind of nutrition in my body so I didn't feel so weak. I'm sorry that you're suffering from a cold. I can only imagine how much more frustrating and taxing it is on your recovery process. However, like all things in life, the cold will pass, your recovery will come and you will be well on your way to success. This site is a great place to come and ask questions, read others experiences and just have conversations in general about the sleeve. I hope your recovery is quick and that quickly and positively adjust to this new life style. Good luck to you!

Thank you for all your advice

It does get better. I found a heating pad or the "Magic Bags' you put in the microwave really helped with the shoulder pain. My shoulder pain lasted for 3 days...that was the only discomfort I had... walking also helped. Good luck !! Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 156 lbs
  6. I have 2 scales, a taylor digital and a classic dial scale. Both of them drive me absolutely bonkers. i cannot get a consistent reading on them no matter what i do. I could step on my digital in the morning and then step on it 3 more times and each time ill get a different reading. Both of these scales are also off by 3-5 lbs compared to my drs office. I dont have my next checkup until 1/23 and i really have no idea how much i weigh. so can anyone recommend one that is accurate but under 100 bucks maybe?
  7. Started my liquid diet today. My surgery is August 13th!! I have tried my protein shakes now 3 times (all different days), and every time I feel very nauseated. I talked to the nutritionist today and she suggested I try soy or eggwhite protein. Going to try that out tonight. I don't know if I could deal with that feeling all the time. Ugh! First real disappointment in this whole process. But a major disappointment. Has anyone else had that type of reaction to protein shakes?
  8. I had my first fill at the end of March. I went back to my surgeon 3 1/2 weeks later for a f/u visit with every intention of getting another fill. I had 1.1 cc's put in at first. I haven't felt much restriction, just sometimes and I PB'd once. I told the doctor that I PB'd once and that I felt the "golf ball" about 2x per week. He told me to hold off for another month because he didn't want me to be too filled to get anything down. He has been happy with my weight loss. So.... I took his advice and will wait until next month. I have just heard nightmare stories about bandsters being overfilled. Just watch what you eat and try to stick to low carbs and high protein. Good luck!!
  9. I haven't been to they gym in a week because of the pain and when I exercise it stops me and I end up leaving. Oh well I guess it just has to pass hopefully on its own.
  10. I am only a week and a half post op but everytime i drink I feel like my chest is going to explode. I am so thirsty all the time too, all I drink is Water but I just wish the pain would stop everytime i have a sip Anyone have advice?? I am constantly moving but it just doesnt seem to get better
  11. Let's see. 3rd week: cold -1 week and took a lot of NyQuil 5th week: cold - same 2 month: flu - 2 weeks, high fever and generally miserable 3 month: staph infection (weird on my head) - lasted for 3 weeks and painful. Went away with antibiotics. 6 month: flu - 3 week. Worst flu I have ever had and kept me in bed for first 3 days. Last month. Got so dehydrated because I had trouble drinking Water and the flu robbed a lot of water. Definitely have been getting sick more after surgery. I used to only get sick once a year if that. There were some stretches where it would be 3-4 years of no colds or flus when over weight. I think part of the problem is that I visited the clinic quite a number of times post op for various reasons. Even though I am careful about using purell there, opening door handles, etc, it is hard to avoid the many other sick people in the clinic. It is strange. I am generally very healthy. Take my Vitamins and supplements every day. Eat the high Protein and high amounts of water. I have lost a lot of weight in 7 months, most of it during first 6 months. Oh well, small price to pay for being healthy in terms of physical fitness and diet.
  12. You might want to think of the pain factor! Will you be on pain medication? I was in severe pain for the first 3 days, but everyone is different. Even riding in a car hurt--pot holes, dips, etc.! Something to think about.....
  13. I was considering purchasing Tony Horton's 10 minute training program and was wondering if anyone has tried it. If you gave tried it let me know your thoughts. I am on my treadmill 30 minutes 5 days a week, but if I could get a better result in 10 that would be great.

    "Shake Weights"

I have one and use it daily. I'm really not sure if it works yet though, I just started using it. I use it for about 1-3 minutes each in about 4 or 5 different positions. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is a little akward to use, but I can definately feel it working

  16. My first appointment with my surgeon is on July 14th, so I have a good 5 weeks. I would like to use this time wisely. I don't feel the need to go on weeks of food funerals, though I am sure I will have 3 or 4 favorite meals during this time. But how else can I best use the time til mid-July? Here's what I am in the process of doing now: I have read several books and am well versed on the different surgery types, am uncertain btw. sleeve and RNY, will rely on physician input once he sees the whole health picture. I am seeing my primary care doc on this month to officially record starting weight, and let them know I am getting WLS. I will attend support group meetings. Am getting my psych eval done this week. Trying out different protein products. So I guess the big question is, do I start serious, low carb, dieting now, in the meantime? I am the type who can lose 20 pounds fairly easily, but then....I stall, and I stall HARD, and then I usually get sloppy and start slowly regaining. So I am a little worried about losing my 20 easy pounds, showing up to the surgeon mid-July and he says, hey lose 10% of your body weight before surgery please, and then I am stuck "starting over" right in the really hard part of every diet I have ever been on. Maybe I am whining here? I would like to do everything I can to get a head start before that first surgeon appt, since I'd like to do the surgery as soon as I can bc of work cycles (I work in college administration). I supposedly have no mandatory diet and exercise waiting period (we'll see on that....). I figure that starting to lose weight now will just mean it's some weight at least that I don't have to lose later, so maybe I should just jump in and diet? Try bariatric recipes? What do you recommend? Thanks for any input or advice.

    Sleeve stretching?

It does stretch with time. I think most people eat more than 4 oz. when they are further out. I know I do. Typical dinner for me is 3 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup veggies, and 1/3 cup starch, such as potato, noodles, or rice. Calorie intake and weight regain can occur rapidly if you don't choose the right foods. High fat, high sugar foods such as potato chips, buttered popcorn, Cookies, candy, and cake can really add up. Ditto for high fat/sugar drinks such as Mocha Frapacchinos, milkshakes, or sodas. And weight regain can creep up on you. I set a top bounce weight of 140. If I see 140 on the scale (and I have!) I cut back till I'm at 137. Lynda

One week post op and scale won't move

Your body is adjusting..it is familiar with your past diets~it fights the weight loss~it will slow down metabolism~ and then get confused when you don t return to binge eating and the weight will fall. Stop weighing every day~do what you are instructed to and be prepared for a pleasant surprise in a few days. Keep in mind~you will not fail with this.! It will work. I have been at a "leveling"plateau for about 2 months....losing only 4 #s.,,then one day -i m down 3#s---~~3 days later 5# s more...and i haven t done anything different. If you aren t losing pounds~you are probably losing sizes.........good luck to you~~you will succeed.

    Zzzzz.........

on one of my visits with my PA, she and i discussed my sleeping habits. i keep my husbands hours, he works PM's. going to bed at 2am and getting out of bed at 10.00. i am a fitfull sleeper. i wake constantly so one of my doctors put me on ambien. being bipolar it was important to get at least a couple of uninterrupted sleep. i have been on ambien for about 5 years. well this pa said that the ambien could be the cause for my sleep eating. for most of my night time cravings. sometimes i get up in the morning and look at my kitchen i cleaned the night before to discover what i ate during the night. ugggh. so for the last couple of months i make every attempt to get to bed by 11.00, no sleeping pill and get up by 8.00. that way my day has enough hours in it to eat 3 square meals. i found that i sleep better without the ambien. surprise surprise. and my night time food cravings have diminish. i still have trouble getting to bed at a decent hour but i do try. what i have found from a better sleep is having more of a emotional healthy attitude the next day.

    Zzzzz.........

I agree with that article. I find it hard to get enough hours of sleep in and then the quality of sleep is not always the best. For me it's mostly the hubby trying to get comfortable with his hip pain at night and he can keep me up with the tossing and turning big time. I don't complain because I know how much pain he is in and this cold weather is NOT helping matters. On a personal note for me, there are so many things that have to be done...and my mind can keep spinning way into the early morning hours and never shut down if I let it. Since being banded I have made a very concentrated effort to get more sleep, and to create a routine that I diligently try to stick to especially during the week. On days when I'm feeling good (this winter I seem to be sick every other day!) I try to get up extra early and get a 20 minute walk, stretch or meditation in before getting the day started. I have to tell you that 20 minutes in the morning really makes my days go so much smoother. I feel more alive and alert and in control of the way I am able to deal with the often times uncontrollable events of the day and rest a little easier at night. How about you? Do you have anything specific that helps you get more/ better sleep?
  21. I had a tummy tuck, lipo and a breast lift with implants on 02/21 and I had my drains from the tummy tuck for 9 days after the doctor removed the drains I had to go back on the 4th day because I was still having swelling from liquid in my lower tummy so he removed it will a large needle, I had some more removed on Saturday and I have to go back again tomorrow because I am still having draining has anyone else had this happen?? He said everyone is different and that unless I am completly off my feet the liquid will subside but it will take a while. Also I had a breast lift with implants and my implants are still kind of high so my boobs don't look really round yet how long will it take for them to get lower?? I am just a little over 2 weeks out so I still have a while for the swelling and everything to fall in place. By the way my surgery was great I had no pain only discomft, I only took the pain meds for 2 1/2 days and I was walking perfecly straight within the first 3 or 4 days. Can't post much because I just came back to work and I am very behind.
  22. I didn't have swelling after my drains. Are you wearing your body girdle? I had to wear mine day and night for 6 weeks. It made a big difference. Also, your breasts will drop and look more natural, but that takes quite a few months.
  23. What is an MR?? I had a large amount of tummy removed so my surgeon said that is one of the reasons why I have so much draining, this week its alot less but I still need to get it removed. Thursday will be 4 weeks and I also can wait to stop wearing the binder.

    Slow Loss At the Beginning

I fear sounding like a broken record but here goes... I was banded exactly 1 month ago and have only lost 10 lbs. I am real happy with that but... I thought I'd lose a lot this first month (like a bunch of you lucky folks). Here's my question. Has anyone had a slow start (like myself) but once they had their first fill have the wl kick in to a good pace (1-2 lbs per week?). If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    Slow Loss At the Beginning

Hi guys I am also losing really slow (3 months, 16 days and counting) and as of yesterday I was back to only losing 7 kilos ( from 10 kg - I blame the heat wave in melbourne). I have to admit, I feel a twinge of pain in my new stomach every time I read how many pounds other people are losing ( specially since you all write in pounds which is like .5 kilo so for a second before i convert is like WOW!!!! what am i doing wrong!!???? that is, besides eating pretty much all I want in portions larger than I would like to and enjoying every morsel.....)) Ok, I am off track, what I came to say is that of course we shouldnt be tempted into comparing our progress to others', we are all in the race to get to the finish line, nobody is timing it tho, so we are not competing with each other. Now, my mantra if you like, this time around ( after hundreds of diets) has changed to quality not quantity, in every sense. I want to lose weight while enjoying every day, every meal, and with NO concern of how much faster i could do it if I applied myself to the task at hand. After all, this time around, it is NOT a diet. I am finally making changes that have to last for the rest of my life. Every diet before: pills, shots, starvation, protein, carb, no carb, low carb, grapefruit, rice and melon, cabagge soup, etc, etc, were about how fast i could lose as much as possible before I lost the ability to keep up the madness and go back to .... well, eating like fat me. Now, my will power (so to speak) is not going away after 6 weeks of hunger! So I am enjoying every day that the scales go down a little bit ( hopefully the heat wave will be over soon Sorry I tend to go on and on and on.... tellie ps, I am soooo looking forward to my next fill on thursday I only have .5 ml in at the moment which means, well... lots of food!
