  1. 5'2", ♀️ 9m PO, maintaining Friday August 9th - 115.7 lbs Finally got a higher calorie day in yesterday to post (had few surprise friends drop by in the afternoon and then stay until late into the evening). This menu probably comes at an excellent time, given the discussion above about more varied menu representations. Full disclosure though, I had a dumping episode (definitely from the moon cake) after the 1:45pm snack with friends. On the bright side, the poop was 4 days coming, but on the non-so-bright side, I had to lay down for for an hour or so afterwards to recuperate. Stayed up extra late last night so I could digest my food before going to bed (to avoid the middle of the night reflux) and my stomach doesn't feel so very great today. 10:00 am: 1 cup chicken broth -- 8 cals 12:30 pm: salad + 73g stewed pork loin + 1 fried egg + 1tbsp crispy onions -- 250 cals 1:45 pm: 250ml CoolWay fudge chocolate chip frozen dessert + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + ½ moon cake + 8 wheat thins + 45g peppercorn paté -- 705 cals 5:15 pm: 127g 4% cottage cheese + ½ fl oz pumpkin seeds + 78g blueberries + 61g strawberries + ¼ tsp pepper -- 202 cals 7:45 pm: salad + 44g bbq pork ribs + 45g stewed pork loin + 13g parmesan cheese -- 231 cals 11:05 pm: 38g prosciutto + 21g salami + 30g cheddar cheese + 35g peppercorn pate + 26g cherries + 38g walnuts -- 80 cals Totals: 2084 cals, 136g Protein, 113g NET carbs, 124g fat Irrational me is all planning to even out the 113g of net carbs, btw. Exercise: 2km run (10 min) Strength training - Arms (15 mins) Zumba (1hr)

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

    9. Did my cardio and did actually manage a couple of extra ounces of water. I didn't think I was going to pull that off but I did. 10. Trying to figure out 40 minutes of strength training. Part of me wants to say since I do some every day, I should just take credit for the days I do it that the challenge doesn't ask me to. LOL. But that's the hitch, since I do some every day, I don't have 40 minutes worth to do today...or maybe I do, I'll have to see how it turns out - if I hit the gym. Mostly what I'd like to do is go swimming. I have a wish to swim across my local pond and back - that's the exercise I would choose today - that and mowing the lawn. If I encounter any people, I'll try to remember to smile. I'm more likely to encounter some ducks.
  5. Same here, exactly the same actually and so sick of it! I have had a job for 10 years and just can’t leave..but soon I hope. All the best to you with your job search as well!

    September 2019 🍂🍁

    Rny set for 9/10
  7. Oh man I can relate! Every day I was at least a 7 or 8 on a 1-10 scale and really most days I was at a 9-10. I would cry daily. And took pain pills and drank to help dim the pain. It was an awful existence non-existence! I can tell you the difference at 5'4" and 56 years from 287lbs to 135lbs today is dramatically different!!! I still have neuropathy from cancer treatment/surgery, but my pain at the end of the day is a very manageable 3-4. I live life and can be active now! It's night and day difference in pain relief. And I only have had pain pills for an emergency surgery-and no alcohol for pain management either! It's a miracle! Can't wait for y'all to experience this!!!

I almost made a crustless cheesecake but I was too tired. Been stew it is 🏆 9. I actually drank less because I fell asleep early. My nightly potty schedule didn't get the memo 😒 10. I will not see anyone to smile at today, so I'll be in the mirror

    Date Set! 9/10

I’m set for 10/15 and I question myself all the time. I get scared but then I remind myself that it would be scarier if I don’t fix my health problems. This can only happen by losing weight and keeping it off!
  11. Thank you Peggo. I had my surgery 9 days ago [emoji4] 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Had my surgery 7/31 and my first post OP appt. Today. My doc was super impressed with my progress and I'm on track and down 15 lbs in 9 days. I can start pureed stage on Monday! Yay me!! 🥳[emoji322][emoji119] 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. My date is set and I'm thinking to myself - is this really the right thing? Yes, I KNOW it is! I need to be healthy - my joints just ache and other obese issues cause trouble. But, I read over stories all the time here - both good and bad. Then wonder - What if I end up having consequences? And then scary in another way - what happens when I'm thin? (Having not really been anywhere near thin since 15.) Anyway - I just had to put this out there to other understanding souls :)
  14. Congrats on getting your surgery date. It's only 10 days out . . . are you already on your pre-op diet and preparing for the procedure?
  15. So, I had my psych evaluation 2 weeks. It went really well! I was nervous and scared I’d say something stupid that might prevent moving forward, but apparently I am a clinically sane person! Anyways, I got the phone call yesterday, “Hi how are you???? Are you ready? Pre-Op is the 15th and the surgery date is the 19th!” I literally sat on the other line in silence. I had no idea what to say, how to react, and I said “August??” The nurse started laughing and said yes!! I’m still struggling today and didn’t sleep well last night, 10 day, it’s only 10 days away!!! Obviously I know everyones story is different, I’m just blown away that I’ve been working on this for over a year, never thought I’d make it to hear someone telling my surgery date. I just hope this awkward numb feeling goes away. I know I should be beyond excited about having my date, guess that’s the procrastinator in me, wanting more time to plan. Please tell me I’m not the only one that has had this “awkward numb” feeling after you get your surgery date...
  16. I think a rule of thumb, is to follow your doc's progression plan for you that includes any special thing for the GERD and esophagus healing. And, after 6-9 months when you are safely able to easily consume your daily protein in 1-3 meals per day, start looking at compressing your eating window. If it were me, I'd start by only eating 3 meals (will all/most protein coming from food sources and not protein drinks) and start with doing an 13/11 TRE (13 hours fasting/11 hours eating, time restricted eating). Then when comfy, I'd move to a 14/10, then to a 16/8, then to an 18:6). Within those later frames consider if you are easily able to consume most of your protein from food sources rather than protein drinks. The purpose of fasting is not only to have weight loss, but to tighten up your health by not eating "less" rather, eating less frequently so your body and mitochondria have time to properly process the food you do put in. And that the food you put in is as nutritionally dense and healthy as possible. (ie clean food). Cuz that's when you not only get weight loss, but you also get a reduction in cravings, appetite, meal sizes normalize, and you get a whole slew of health benefits!! I'd say, just spend the next few months healing and reading here on this thread and in books to educated yourself and learn about IF. Welcome btw!

Best exercise routines -100+ lbs weight loss?

^^^ This. I didn't actually believe that this was a thing, but it totally is. Just one month of 10-15 mins of arm exercises every day during the July challenge, and there is a noticeable diff in the amount of arm sag showing. Suffice it to say, I am still doing the exercises, and added butt and ab ones into the mix. The other posters above are right though: that weight loss is much, much more affected by food intake than exercise. The exercise and building muscle does help though, plus it makes you heart healthy AND FIRM (lol).
  18. I was supposed to have surgery Monday 8/12/19 also but mines being pushed back 1 week due to thyroid levels. I’m a little relieved because I haven’t been great on my pre-op diet. My drs require for my 1 meal low carb , low fat & high protein & veggie . Crabs are protein just don’t add fats like butter etc to them.
  19. Was supposed to have my surgery 3 days from now on Monday 8/12/19. Found out this morning that my TSH thyroid levels are 4.5 so my insurance is asking for additional info & follow up from my PCP. At 1st I was upset but now I feel a little relieved. My pre-op hasn’t been going as restrictive as I’d like & I can do better. Might as well be as healthy going into this as possible. Rescheduled 1 week for 8/19/19
  20. At 287lbs and 49BMI, I started trying to get serious about weight loss and weight loss surgery on my own with only my PCP on board. My oncologist had been trying to talk me into WLS for 2 years and I resisted his offers of referral to a program. I wasn't ready to change. So it took 2 years to get my head in the game! And when I did, I didn't look back--even though the fear of affording the post WLS life gripped me! My first visit with the surgeon, I weighed 256 and was just over 41BMI-ish. She required I lose 10% of my total body weight in the 6 months leading up to the pre-op liquid diet and I was so fearful of not being able to comply. Cuz if I could lose on my own, why would I need WLS? But WLS doesn't just help us LOSE the weight, it helps KEEP IT OFF longterm. I had to pay my nutritionist for each of 6 monthly visits out of pocket. It was so worth it and worth cutting corners elsewhere to help. I can still see her whenever I need to. BUT, she runs a weight loss support group where I get to see her for free once a month at a hospital. It's a great group of ladies who meet to talk and offer support. And there is no cost. Most hospitals offer free support groups and allow outsiders (people from other surgeons) to attend, cuz you never know when someone is gonna need a revision. So look up all the WLS practices in the area--especially ones centered around large teaching hospitals, and see if you can find one! I didn't go to a gym or work with an exercise physiologist--no funds to do so--but I was prescribed PT a few times for pain and rehabilitation. So see if you can start there and get that covered. Throughout the losses, I have walked daily and do sporadic core strengthening exercises at home using bands and isometrics. I now weigh 135.2lbs today.
  21. I rebounded 12 lbs from my lowest weight (people who started out where I did (373) typically rebound more than 5-10 lbs, so that 5-10% of weight lost that you quoted is probably more accurate). I guess it kind of went all over. It's hard to say because I'm still within a normal BMI range, and I've also had plastic surgery with liposuction, so I really don't have any extra fat anywhere..
  22. I am looking forward to being healthy. To be able to keep up with my 5 yo grandson and 10 mo granddaughter. I'm looking forward to enjoying activities like biking, hiking, running, squats and exercise in general. I'm also looking forward to finally getting married to my soulmate next Spring. I've waited 12 yrs because I refused to marry him until I lost the weight. He has been my rock and my biggest cheerleader! No matter what was happening with my body, he was there to take care of me through all my ailments. He has been there through all my insecurities, making me feel special and loved. I'm beyond blessed to have such a loving and caring family and circle of friends in my life!! 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I was first approved for wks in 2005 and got scared and backed out at the last moment. I was sleeved on 7/31/19, the biggest regret I have is not having it done sooner!! I wasted so many years that I could have been healthy. My weight was like a yo yo and all the diets I tried were unsuccessful. Since my surgery I have lost 15lbs and prior to my surgery I lost 45 lbs. I'm down 60 lbs since Jan. 2019. Don't wait and regret it. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I’m curious from what I’ve read once you get down past your goal you typically rebound up 5 to 10 pounds or 5 to 10%. Where does that weight settle at? Did it go back to your hips, stomach, chest everywhere?
  25. Hey to all my BariatricPals who have lost 100 lbs or more what exercise routines worked best for you? I’m 10 weeks post gastric sleeve and my goal is to lose 160 pounds! My surgeon said I’m going to have to work hard to lose this much weight. So I just joined my local YMCA and have started taking water exercise classes and Zumba. Of course I was told that walking is good. I’m just curious about the “secrets” of the success of those of you who have already lost 100 pounds…
