I was sleeved 4/29/13 and I'm down 43 pounds, I'm hoping the weight keeps dropping!!

    Just Starting Out

Thanks! Flying home tonight and opted to buy a second seat because the flight was full. It is the first time I have done this and it wasn't easy. The Delta team were so kind about the whole thing but it is embarrassing. At least I am comfortable being able to spread out. I am at my highest weight and I am feeling every pound when I travel.
  3. Have your surgery prior to your surgery- yo7 will be on weight restriction a minimum of 6 weeks after surgery.🎱🏆
  4. Congrats on the new place! I'd do it after you move. Both because of the weight restrictions, but also so that you can set up the new house to be super comfortable for when you get home. Also, you'll have a chance to set up your new kitchen with post-op in mind. During the move, clean out your fridge/pantry of all the foods you won't be eating. Put the kitchen tools you'll need on lower shelves so you can reach them after surgery when you may not be able to reach up high. Organize your clothes according to size so you can go closet shopping when you start to lose. Otherwise, if you're like me, you'll be in your old house with half of it packed and in chaos. You'll get to start if all off right.
  5. Thank you, Frustr8! I had not thought about weight restrictions at all. So you mean to have surgery After we move. In March?? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Mental issues? Like delirious joy as the weight finally comes off? I heard it all too. Everyone tried to talk me out of it. Many presented "convincing" arguments, usually not based on any sort of medical fact, but instead on hearsay. I did it anyways because it just felt right for some reason. I'm almost 2 weeks out and I'm already loving how much I don't ned to eat, how freed I feel frommy constant hunger. I wouldn't go back if you paid me!
  7. I drink premier protein drinks they have 30g of protein per drink. They are the best tasting one I have found and seems to be the one most of us drink. You can get it at Sam's or Costco. I had to do 2 weeks of the liquid diet before the surgery. There are several reasons for this liquid diet. The first one is to shrink your liver it stores fat and needs to be shrunk so it isn't in the way as much during the surgery. The 2nd reason is it helps you get a handle on your food addiction. You will get a head start on what your new life is going to be only later you will get food as well! Head hunger is mean and that is what is going on. Once your surgery is done sometimes you will think you are hungry but you are actually experiencing head hunger. It will drive you crazy but it does get easier and easier. I am 5 weeks post op and doing much better with it. This is your time to be very honest with yourself and recognize your food addictions. This is when you will begin to modify your life so that your sleeve will be successful for life. If you don't get a grip on it then you will eventually gain weight back. Believe it or not my typing this is a reaffirmation for myself that I must continually stay on top of this monster and fix my own problems. With all that said my doctor did tell me when I was going nuts and very hungry that I could do a very lean small piece of meat with some steamed vegetables. I did this like every 3rd day for my pre op and it made the world of difference for me. Good luck on your journey...............you got this!

    Aggravated!

@Beachladee3 hi newbie😊 be consistent on which scale you listen to, doesn't matter what the weight says. if you want to go by the docs scale scale or yours , just only go by same scale - on other words don't compare each other good luck kathy

    North Ga Bandster 2007

I have been banded since 2012, lost over 150 pounds and then I got pregnant and gained 60 during the pregnancy and another 30 since I had him 6 months ago. I’m am working on getting my fills again but my doctor closed his office when the hospital in the area shut down and he won’t be opening up again until after the first of the year in 2018 so I am struggling and I’m desperate need of some support and people near by that can help me get back to where I was and to slap the junk food out of my hands! I know what to do and I’ve done it but why does it seem so much harder now than it was when I first got it

    When was your first stall?

The detox is a good idea and maybe mix up your calorie intake. Try increasing your caloric intake to make your body increase it's metabolism. Not enough to gain weight of course, but maybe 200-400 for a few days? I stalled at 7 months but it's mostly my own fault. I'm hitting it hard starting today. tmf
  12. i have the same fear.....So i have started early taking care of my skin. I use the palmers stretch mark massage oil and the lotion. I also exfoliate really good! I use firming lotions and doing skin firming treatments plus ive already started toning everything. I have surgery Novemeber 19th I have about 90lbs to get to my ideal weight i have a thick mid section so I fear that will be my most problem area. Start taking care of your skin now.......Firm , firm, firm now
  13. I was definitely Anti Social prior to surgery for the 6 months. I didn't go out barely ever except functions for friends and family. Now I am only 4 days post op but consistently dropping weight and looking forward to being more agile. I never felt comfortable at my high weight and was definitely embarrassed of myself and for letting myself get that big. I also noticed in just a ~30lb weight change how strangers respond to you in a more positive direction. I am just focusing all my effort towards maximizing my surgery and bettering my life for the long term and being less worried about others. Also this process definitely points out people who really care about people and maybe friendships or family members you may become closer with after this surgery.
  14. I was impatient at first but after hearing the following several times, I got to a place of more patience with the process. (1) the weight didn't get there overnight and it's not going to disappear overnight; (2) slow weight loss (2-3 lbs a week) is safer and healthier (3) slow weight loss will minimize saggy skin It probably helps that I'm 60 years old, 'cause if there's one thing that life has impressed upon me (beaten into me) it is that there's no point getting antsy about something that you can't really affect. It's gonna get here when it gets here, no matter if I agitate about it or not. The only difference is that if I fuss and fume, it's going to SEEM like it's taking LONGER. So now I go about my business and relegate the weight loss to a secondary position in my life. I do still talk about it a lot with my close friends, and I get excited about the milestones (like BMI under 30 a few days ago), but I'm able to work and enjoy life day by day too. There's a wise saying that I don't remember exactly, but it's something about we can't always control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we react to it. Best wishes!
  15. So I'm six months out and have been the same weight for a month.....thank god I hit onderland before I stalled but I'm wondering if this is a trend around 6 months or just when my stall is starting.......any tricks to get through a stall? Thinking about doing a weekend detox just to clean everything out and maybe get a kick start to these last 55 lbs.
  16. Hi Dune, The last year, since surgery, for me has been a long slow haul. All the weight I've lost and kept off has been pre-banding. I've lost 26 pounds since banding, but put it back on during the months I was overfilled and eating slider foods. For me, this last year has been a learning process about how the band will work for me...and, as a result, I'm once again starting to lose. None of the WLS will prevent us from gaining weight if we don't figure out how to work our particular tool. .

    Pounds versus Inches Question

Absolutely! Happened to me too! I had been taking weekly pics...there were 3 weeks straight that I lost NO weight- but my body shape was changing big time!!! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  18. Wow sounds pretty scary, I mean the chest pains . I'm a little scary cat I would be freaking out. So does everyone stay that long in the hospital? That's a long time 4 days and are they sure the chest pains are from gas and won't lead to further complications. I fear all that I wonder is it worth it. I mean I want to be healthy and thinner but wonder if all that is worth being 50 or more pounds thinner? And 30 pounds that's great congrats you only need 20 more ?? What was ur starting weight? Mine is probably now 224 I'm short and small boned so when I lose weight my fear is I'm gonna look sickly. Well I hope your journey isn't too difficult. feel free stop and chat anytime and say how your doing.
  19. I think most of us feel guilt and shame, but fact of the matter is that 95% of people who lose, gain it back...plus some. I finally realized I was not in that 5% so it was either make peace with my size or surgery, (which is the one thing shown to make inroads into battling obesity). Also, it's not like you get surgery and get to do whatever you want. Trust us there is still lots of work to do, but the sleeve is a tool making the motivation and work so much easier (I'm hoping, only one week out). You can still take pride afterwards in watching what you are eating.
  20. I had a lot of my fill taken out about a month and had half ago and I have already gained about 15 pounds. I was having some problems with my neck so they took some out to see if it would help and found out the band was not the problem. Well I have an appointment to get a fill on the 20th. I have been eating everything that I had not eaten in a long time and I am gaining weight fast. This just totally backs up the fact that I can NOT do this without my band. I just hope I dont gain even more before the 20th. I cant believe I am over 200 again. I used to always have a problem staying under 300. Now I dont want to stay over 200. I am going to try really hard tomarrow to watch my portions and have no bread or high carb food. The other night I ate almost all of my 12 ounce steak that I ordered from a resteraunt. I feel so pathetic and weak. All of these emotions of saddness are coming back to me. I WILL do good from here on out. Sorry to keep going on and on. It just helps to get back up from all of you who have been there.

I don't want to embrace this stall!

I'm not sure what the basis of that the book's hypothesis on weight loss stalls is, because most doctors agree that weight loss is not linear. There are many documented instances of stalls occurring during long term fasts (15-30 days), so it's certainly not that they are always caused by too many calories, too many carbs, too much Protein causing gluconeogenesis (your liver will convert any excess dietary protein to glucose). Often a stall in the absence of cheating is accompanied by movement on the measuring tape as your body re-proportions your body fat. Eating more sodium, for instance, can increase Water retention. Eating inflammatory foods can do the same. Not resting properly can devoid your body of the chance to heal inflammation and cause the scale to pause. Stalls are more like a month or 6 weeks with no off plan eating and no weight loss, not a couple of days.
  22. Hi all - I was sleeved on 10/17. I stayed until 10/20 due to extreme nausea. I went into surgery at 251 pounds, gained a few pounds from IVs in hospital. I've lost 6.8 pounds since surgery (16 days ago), 0.8 in this past week. I actually gained 1.4 pounds (included in the 6.8 total pound weight loss equation) in the past 2 days. - I walk over 2 miles everyday. - I had my period when I came home from surgery, so I'm assuming it's not womanly hormones effecting my weight loss. - I'm within my Protein range of 60-75g of protein. - I drank 11 cups of approved fluids one day, and 10 cups the other day. - I ate 13 carbs one day, 21 the next. - I've had 30 grams of fat, and 6 grams of Fiber. Are these the culprit? I lost more weight each week before surgery drinking fluids all day, with no food. 4.16 pounds a week average, totaling 25 pounds in 6 weeks. I'm whining and complaining! I read this book about the sleeve from Dr. Duc Vuong and he states there is no such thing as a weight loss plateau - it just means you're not doing something right (after ruling out hormonal or medical issues) - either not exercising or eating slider foods / empty calories. My daily diet consists of Protein shakes, one hard boiled egg, 1-2 oz. of canned tuna, no more than a tbsp. of mayo, and cauliflower. I started a new job on Monday, but I'm not stressed out from it! Please make me feel better and advise me when my weight loss efforts are going to start working! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Right now, I'm so focused on my end goal thatI feel like I'm missing out on savoring the weight loss journey. I want to race to the finish, Like I just want to get to the end of the year so I'd have lost a bunch of weight. I'm obsessed with weighing myself and feel like hiding away until I'm slimmer. I don't think this is healthy and I need to make peace with how I currently look and get on with life and try to enjoy the present. Did anyone struggle with this?

    10 More days....

10 more days until my initial consult with Dr. Enochs.:rolleyes2: I have faxed all the paperwork to the office and my 5 year weight history came from my OB/GYN. I really hope they have all the paperwork. I never have been so excited to get surgery. I have been trying to intake my water and protein in my diet.:blushing: I am trying to lose some weight before the consult because my insurance, BCBS will only accept the lap band if you have a BMI of under 50. I am right on the borderline. If you have a BMI over 50 my insurance wants you the have the gastric by-pass. I don’t really want to go that right. I am stepping up my Curves :w00t:workout and not eating many sweets:sneaky:. I don’t have a scale at home and I am thinking about getting one. I never had a scale in the house growing up. My mom is overweight, her mother is overweight and my great grandmother was overweight. See a pattern. For now, I am trying to patient and pray everyday that I get approved for surgery.
  25. Hi Anna I was operated on by Chris back in May '08 and couldnt recommend him more highly. Very skilled and very professional surgeon, hospital in Vilvoorde is great (if that's where you are getting it done) You cant predict how long it will take you to lose weight, depends primarily on how much you have to lose initially. Just remember it's a tool, not a magic cure I've had good weight loss which has been a combination of good food choices and exercise - but the band wont stop you putting chocolate in your mouth - that bit is up to you !
