  1. Hey I had gastric bypass for reflux (5/13/22) as I was just on the side pushing it for weight loss too. Is anyone else here for this reason? Also, because I didn't go through the normal bariatric process beforehand, I don't know what the follow-up should look like either. I saw my surgeon 2 weeks post op and now not til 3 months with nothing in between. No nutritionist, no therapist, no nothing. Is this common?
  2. I wasn't required to do it, but I chose to do an additional five weeks of pre-op diet. It'll make my end pre-op period 8 weeks. During those five weeks, I would drink a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and have a dinner of protein and vegetables. I didn't stick to a specific calorie range, but it was normally between 500-700. The 700 calorie days were typically when I couldn't avoid eating out and had to choose the healthiest option available to me. I'm starting my last week of pre-op today and I've lost 37.4 pounds so far. I was hoping for 50, but I knew that was a big ask.

Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?

That's a long time!!! I had to do a week of all liquid diet before surgery and 2 weeks of liquids after. I wasn't allowed to have any food at all in my pre and post op liquid diet, and if you look at my posts on here, I was MISERABLE lol I could never do 2 months. No way, no how. I give you huge props for it, and I wish you all the best and all the luck with it.

    May 2022 surgery?

Yes. In my 3rd to 4th week, my weight loss stalled. I was consuming the same things I was when my weight loss was steady. Last week I realized that I had not had a bowel movement in a while. I tried taking Colace and Senna, and it felt like there was stool on the way. When I tried to expel it, it got stuck. I tried to get it out manually, but it didn’t work. After an afternoon and evening in the ER, I was sent home with prescriptions for Miralax and Lactulose. For several days I used a gloved finger to get the big, hard chunks out when I pushed and it got stuck. When I weighed myself on Monday, I had lost 6 pounds. Six pounds of poop. Since then, my weight loss is back on track. I hope that helps. Some here say that a 3rd week stall is normal. Maybe for some. I only know my stall ended when I got rid of all that stuff in me.

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm not sure what a stall and being constipated have in common. Could you connect the dots for me?

    May 2022 surgery?

I stalled for two weeks! Zero weight loss during my second AND third weeks post-op. It's normal and common. Weight loss for me resumed when I started pureed foods on week 4.

    May 2022 surgery?

Are you constipated? How long has it been since you had a bowel movement? If it’s been enough that you can’t even remember, you probably are. Call your doctor, and tell them that you’re constipated. Some on this forum are saying that a 3 week stall is normal. I don’t think that’s correct. I don’t recall getting constipated with the original surgery.

    Multi vitamin

I've tried three different brands of vitamins, including a non-bariatric vitamin, and they all make me sick. I think it's me.
  9. Most people have a week or 2 weeks of a pre op diet. tho that depends on your weight and BMI... The heavier you are the longer you are on the diet. You havent updated your stats on your profile. It would be helpful if you did. you can put your weight and height and the type of surgery you are getting. (Click your profile at the top right corner and go to SURGERY setting and update... but 2 months is brutal. as for having to loose 40lb. I have seen some surgeons require people to get under a certain BMI as a safety issue for surgery. but all surgeons are different with their guidlines.

    Multi vitamin

I also get nauseous from the multivitamins. It's very common. Make sure you have a good amount of food in your stomach, and I find if I take it right before bed then lie down, it's better... I don't throw up TOO often 😕 I just started trying ProCare Health without iron, and it MIGHT be better, but I still need the iron, so not sure what to do about that. (also, I couldn't tolerate the chewables - they were so gross! so I started with the capsules two weeks after surgery. They're big pills, but I don't have any issues swallowing pills)

    asthma and allergies

I have developed hayfever since my surgery. I had an allergic reaction to something a week after my surgery and was covered in painful hives for days, couldnt even put trousers on at one point. I’ve never had hayfever before and am really suffering this year, I guess it could be coincidence but I think it may be linked. I’m sure I read somewhere that the surgery can affect histamine production.

    Blah...my first stall...

The weight showing on my time line was mostly pre op. Once I had the surgery I lost 14 additional lbs by day 9 post op. Then everything came to an abrupt stop. I battle a constant lose 1 lbs then gain it back. This has been going on the whole time (5 weeks now). I have been in the office 4 times over this and an incision that wouldnt heal come to find out it was a stitch that was sticking out. So that is finally about closed and the incision looks alot better but no more weight loss. They keep telling me not to worry but after 5 weeks I am definitely worried. I go back in the office to see the Dr and dietician on 6/20. I am actually dreading it. I cannot help but feel like a failure and boy ole boy do the mind games kick in. Today I feel defeated but I know I need to reset my way of thinking with this. I battle with fluid intake and protein and I have mobility issues because of my right knee. Someone above mentioned not to let your body conform to a certain calorie intake and I think that may be what happened with me. I only get about 500-700 calories a day. Unlike you, I have no real hunger and I do have restriction and can feel it. Im not hungry all the time either, I have caught myself wanting to snoop about for something to eat and I ask myself what are you doing your not even hungry. lol So the "tool" is there and working but my body is not wanting to let loose of the weight. Im going to look into starting with some chair exercises first to move myself more and hopefully if that helps and if weight loss starts again then maybe I can get enough off to be more mobile with walking. At best I have about 20-30 min window before the knee gives out (was told I need a knee replacement). Im a constant work in progress lol

    Blah...my first stall...

Oh wow. So did you just lose weight pre op and maybe the first week post op? Have you called your dietician? Have you tried changing up your exercise and diet at all?

    Blah...my first stall...

I have not lost any weight tomorrow will be 5 full weeks. 😭
  15. I just got a sample from Walmart of a drink packet that says it has three times the electrolytes of water alone plus 5 essential vitamins. Just thinking that this may be something that is good for those early post op. Ask your doctor of course. Has anyone else heard of this or tried it??

    Working out after surgery

I had my surgery several years ago, but I was only allowed to walk for the first four weeks. After that, I was cleared to do anything but weights. I could do weights starting at eight weeks out.

    Working out after surgery

I was practically bedridden before surgery, so I don't have a "normal" to get back to at the gym. What I do now is water aerobics five times a week plus (very light) strength conditioning twice a week. It may not sound like much, but it's currently the right amount for me. Slowly and surely getting stronger all the time feels fantastic.

    Working out after surgery

I recently started heavy cardio and I had my surgery in February. Before I was just walking and doing low impact workout videos. I waited to exercise because i was so anemic after surgery, walking was a pain. But everyone is different. My doc says typically around month 3 when you start being able to eat more foods, youll find you have the capacity to start going out and really move your body. I started running last week and its definitely different. I feel like I have less stamina from the long break I took from running and I burp A LOT while I'm running from sucking in air lol. My knees hurt a lot less though so I know if I just stick with it, I'll get the cardio conditioning I want. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Blah...my first stall...

I feel this rn. I've been stuck in between 250 and 252 for like 2 weeks now and it's so annoying. I started running to see if that helps since I wasn't getting much exercise in before. Thats also a fun experience as a bariatric patient...actually losing weight on vacay and having just as much, if not more fun that you would've consuming a bunch of stuff and gaining weight like in the pre op days haha Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    May 2022 surgery?

I was just looking for this topic. I had revision surgery on May 9, and I was losing at a nice pace, and then suddenly I can’t get past 20 pounds. I realized last week that I hadn’t had a bowel movement in a little bit, so I started taking Colace. It started feeling like it was coming, so I tried straining. It started coming out and got stuck. I was in immense pain! I was sweating and breathing heavy. I didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911. At the hospital they offered me a couple of options. I asked if they could give me an enema at the hospital, wait a bit, and then do some “drilling.” Oh Boy! The doctor sent me home with prescriptions for Miralax and Lactulose. I had disposable gloves, which I used to go it and dig out the big pieces when they were stuck halfway out. You can get Miralax OTC. I don’t know if Lactulose comes OTC. It’s the Lactulose that really does it, but don’t go anywhere for a while. Buy overnight-size pads, because you’re going to leak. That’s the Miralax. Call your doctor/surgeon and tell them you’re constipated and stuck in your weight loss. I lost 6 pounds of poop, and I’m back on track. It took 3-4 days to get that much out.

    Upper Endoscopy

I don’t have my surgery date yet, they are finishing up my testing and evaluations this week and next. I’m expecting I will get that (or a better idea if it will be July or August) at my appointment on the 21st. My last check in appointment (they will weigh me to make sure I didn’t gain weight) is July 7th, so I’m assuming it will be in July or early August at the latest. Do you have yours yet?
