    Disney Vacation

I just got back from Disney a few weeks ago. I was 5 months post-op. I was worried about how I would eat there as well! I had nothing to worry about, though. Here are my tips: * You can pre-order any special food you'll need from Garden Grocer to keep in a refrigerator in your hotel room. They deliver to all Disney hotels. I ordered cottage cheese, string cheese, diet Jell-o and the flavored water I like. * I found that all Disney restaurants will grill chicken for you. You just have to ask. I had grilled chicken every day and was able to get my protein in that way. * I found that all ice cream vendor carts in the Disney parks sell Edy's no-sugar-added strawberry fruit bars. They only have 50 calories. * I brought my own protein bars with me. * I brought along sugar-free oatmeal packets and had that for breakfast every day. I stayed at one of the hotels with a "food court" in the lobby (Art of Animation resort). I got the hot water for the oatmeal at the beverage station. * Most restaurants (and the hotel food courts) had fresh fruit/vegetables available. * I brought along Starkist tuna in pouches. I got the one called "Tuna Salad - Sandwich Ready". It has 90 calories and 10 grams of protein and was easy to carry into the parks. I also brought crackers to eat with it. I was in Disney for a week and actually lost 7 pounds! And this was my first trip where I was able to actually fit through the turnstiles! Have a magical vacation!
  3. THANKS EVERYONE for your replies! I apologize because I haven't been on here very much in the past week. Holidays, and looking after a few things, but I appreciate the replies and it's wonderful to know there's lots of peeps our there who want buddies too! Wow, I go to Mexico all the time (been 5 times this year alone), and, well, needless to say it's my favourite place. Tell me more about where you're getting banded, and how did you find the place!! That's something I never would have thought of doing in Mexico!
  4. I know this has been brought up before, but this is killing me! I am one week post op. Nothing else bothering me, but I am going on 24 hours of pain, constant on and off severe at some points. I can't seem to do anything to make it stop. I took a pain pill today, first since the surgery, and it did nothing but make me nauseous. Anyone else have another remedy for this shoulder pain?

    Fluids after surgery

3 weeks out and I drink normally now. Once in a while I forget and chug and feel the pressure in my belly but nothing terribly dramatic, just a good reminder to slow down a bit...
  6. I am 7 weeks post-op and that knot feeling is still with me. And it's very uncomfortable if I over eat! Feels like a softball or something between my stomach and ribcage. Sounds like you are having head hunger. Your tummy is satisfied and full, but your head and mouth are demanding more. It does get better when you can fit a littler more, but for my I still struggle a LOT with it. My head is still trying to comprehend the tiny portions, and I am rarely satisfied mentally with the portions I consume despite the fullness of my stomach. But that is what got me fat in the first place, listening to my head and not my stomach being full.

    Left shoulder pain

Saw my doc today for 1 week post op. He said all the gas should be out by now. Most likely phrenic nerve? If diaphragm is irritated, it will effect that nerve. Should lessen with time.

    Is It Possible?

I've heard bumping you calorie intake up a bit, change up the exercise and increasing your fluid can kick start a stall. Good luck to reaching that next goal.
  9. Went in for a fill two weeks ago to bring my 10cc band to 6.4cc. A week later I was having a hard time eating and heavily stuck episodes. I went back to the dr who did a barium and I had a slight dilation. They took out 2cc and said that we cannot go to 6.4 cc again. I am on liquids only for the next 3 days and then mushie and back to regular food after that. I am scared I won't recover and I won't feel restriction again. Right now I am starving. Has anyone had this ?

July 1st Sleevers - where are you at 2 months?

Hi jgj, I am down 46.5 pounds since surgery and 61 since my first appointment with the surgeon. I have yet to be able to get in enough Protein, fluids or calories. I "blue" so much of the time I'm actually on antidepressants and had the dosage raised in the last month. Don't understand why. Hit a stall that lasted 3 weeks at 3 weeks, so that was expected. There is very little I actually like to eat. It seems like more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for answering! Susan

    First Fill!

I was banded December 1, 2010. Had my first fill of 3cc January 7. I had lost 65lbs up to my first fill. Weighed this week and did not lose any and did not gain. I am a little dissapointed, but I will not quit what I am doing. I have been working out and with this fill I thought I would still lose, but I did not. I will need to keep a log of what I eat and see if that helps. Disgusted but optimistic also.

    Food for weeks 1-6

I'm a person who need variety and I have a feeling that if I do want to eat after surgery ill get bored eating the same things. Could you offer some advice on what your favorite things to eat were? So far I've bought: sugar free jello/pudding , several flavors of protein including unflavored, applesauce pouches, and mashed potatoes. I'm trying to think of some soft foods/liquids that will be healthy! As of now I don't really want to live on jello and pudding! Lol. Any input would help! And my surgery is September 16th!

    Waistband Issues

I am over 1 year post band. Lost 35 pounds and am having good restriction. Finally able to wear size 16 jeans. The other night I was sitting at the computer- bent over with my jeans on- and all of the sudden- I had the most extreme pain - couldn't tell if it was under the port or the actually stomach pain. Felt like my stomach spasmed and made me suck in my breath. I stood up and couldn't speak for about a minute- while this spasm was happening. It finally eased off but every since I have had some tenderness in my stomach area. It seems to be related to wearing my jeans- I can now wear the low rise jeans and never had it when I wore my mom jeans. Has anyone else had this problem? I am going to the doctor in 2 weeks.
  16. Ok, so here's the thing. I have seen alot of people say that they are constipated frequently after being banded. I am having the opposite problem. I swear I feel like all I do is poo!! I used to go once or twice a week before being banded, now I'm going once or twice a day?? Anyone else have this issue?
  17. Once or twice a WEEK??????? Good grief...I'd say you are just about getting to be "normal" pooping twice a day!!!! You are definitely not eating the quality of fiber you should be if you only poop once a week or so....WOW!
  18. Anyone experienced very frequent green diarrhea (less than 1 week post-op)?
  19. Hey Guys, I have a question for everyone that has met their goal, how did you do it? I understand that the sleeve is only a tool and that is a huge part of our loss. I see lots of my sleeve brothers and sisters that have reached their goal in what I would consider record time. How are they doing it? Is this a calorie thing? Is it a workout that is working better than others. Sometimes I feel like this is a closely guarded secret. I know that my sleeve buddies are always happy to offer tips and suggestions on helping me get over this massive hump. I know that stalls come and go but I can not help but wonder if I am going to get over the hump. My doctor says that I only have a certain amount of time to get the weight off, so now I feel under the gun and I find myself feeling defeated. I don't want to be the one that is "flagged" as a failure here. I monitor my calories to 800 I eat my Protein first. I just started working out with a trainer. I have lost 70lbs in the last 7 months. I just wonder if this is it. Am I going to go any further? My friends tell me that it is just my body adjusting to the loss that I have already. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello! Newbie from UK

Hello! I have had my band for a year. I struggled with the gas a lot after surgery. It was painful for me, but I was also sick for about two weeks. A friend of mine had hers done and she was great. She recovered like someone from out-patient-surgery will no problems. Traveled the second day after surgery and did great. She struggles with reflux a little now though. The doctors said that they had to do surgery on the hernia before they could put the lap band on, but she is doing better. Glad to see you joined the family. I just found this web page and I am so thankful. You will do great.

    tests pre op and confessions

Hi Househuntress. I'm 58. I have high blood pressure, diabetes, take Crestor, and had a heart attack in 1994. I was banded a month ago. Nooo problem. I had to have a cardiology release, primary care physician recommendation, nutritionist visit, and psychological evaluation. No biggie. The surgery was a piece of cake. Recovery was easy. Had surgery on Wednesday an went back to work the following Monday. Last week I took 4 of my grandchildren to Washington, D.C. for 9 days. Hang in there. You can do it. Katt

    Isopure?

I have had the alpine (fruit) punch, and the orange flavor of the pre mixed Isopure in the bottle. You get 40g of protein per bottle, and alot of your liquid requirement. I also have tried the powder in the same flavors... I personally cannot stand the thickness of the powder drinks. They come out quite chalky looking, and settle to the bottom of the glass after a few minutes. :embaressed_smile:The girl at GNC told me that that's the xtra vitamins and minerals they add to the powder mix that settle. I still prefer the pre mixed clear kind. Get a gold card, and save $$ durring the first week of each month. I think it's 10 or 15 % off your purchase! :frown: Good luck!

    Exercising Again?

Best to check with your surgeon. I just went for my two week check up and I can start regular excercixe. He did tell me if it hurts, don't do it. You may have to just try and take it easy at first. I'm just walking and going to start low impact aerobics tomorrow. Gonna take it slow.

    December 16th update

So, yesterday I drove all the way from my job in Stockton to my surgeon's seminar in Roseville--that was about a 90 minute drive in busy traffic. Dr. Waldrep is very informative and didn't make people feel like they asked stupid questions even when they did. He showed videos of band surgery and also explained bypass. The room was a mix of prospective bypass, band, and undecided patients. A woman there was supporting her husband; she was a former bypass patient of Dr. Waldrep's 'she'd lost 185 pounds. SHe told her story and that she had just run the California International Marathon 2 weeks ago--very inspirational. When we were leaving, I ended up being on the same elevator with her and thanked her for sharing. It was a long walk to the parking lot. She said to me, "Remember how you feel walking right now, and don't ever forget how this feels to you." I said, "I'd like to forget it right now." And she said, "But don't you ever forget. A year from now when you're thin, remember this walk so you'll never go back." Those words will probably stay with me a very long time. Dr. Waldrep's staff are also very efficient. I'm a bit annoyed because I have to redo blood work I just had done last month because they have a lab slip with all the blood tests and urine tests, etc, preprinted. What a waste of time to have a pregnancy test. For crying out loud! I'm 45 years old, the lining of my uterus was burned away in a uterine ablation and my husband's had a vascectomy. If I'm pregnant, that would indeed be a sign from God! This end of things is a bit conveyer belt -ish, but I guess it's their way of making sure everything is done. They have a very extensive website at www.salsa.md/ We began the meeting by getting weighed on a fancy machine--gave all sorts of body fat analysis reports and other inforamtion to make you want to cringe. Then they took the humiliating "before" picture" front and side views--not pleasant. I envisioned myself a year or two from now, with my "after" picture--me all made over, with a new hairdo, cute clothes, make-up, and high heels. My before and afters in a magazine or commercial for Lap Band. More likely, though, in my wallet as a reminder of where I was and how far I'd come. I weighed 2 pounds less than last week when I was at my doctor's. I don't think I necessarily lost weight as much as this is a kinder scale. So to date I have done my EKG--a non-eventful experience at my PCP--healthy heart  Psych eval is on the 29th; nutrition eval is on the 23rd; I will get my new lab work and chest x-ray during Winter break, and my mandatory group support meeting, which is on Saturday. After that, I will be ready for my one-on-one with THE DOCTOR:biggrin:. Only a matter of weeks now before I get my surgery.
