Seems like you’re going well. Yay!! But watch the heavy weights. We’re usually advised to not lift anything over a few kilograms to begin so you don’t pull the stitches & staples holding your tummy together. Check with your medical team to be sure. I love green tea & am so glad I had no issues drinking it post surgery. Wondering if you maybe drank a little too much too quickly. Or maybe it got too strong & bitter & upset your sensitive tummy as it seems to keep brewing even without the tea bag or leaves. Don’t give up on it though. Try it again next week.

How long ago was your surgery? If in the last few days remember you haven’t eaten much in the last few weeks if you were on a liver shrinking diet & you aren’t eating solid right now so it may take a few days to have a BM. When a person has surgery they are given meds to make every muscle in their body relax! It takes a few days to come out of that. Doctors usually tell patients to take something like Colace to help with having a BM post surgery. Don’t try too hard, it will happen when it happens. I know it feels like you should go but don’t strain over it. The pain in your left shoulder is caused by the gas the surgeon uses to blow your abdomen up so they have more room to work. Some surgeons are better at removing the gas then others. Some people are more susceptible to the pain then others. Mine always takes about 3 weeks to go away. That is way longer then most peoples. They say that walking helps with that. But pain meds & muscle relaxers won’t help with that because it is your Vegus Nerve that is screaming it & causing the pain. Hope your pain goes away soon & you aren’t is so much agony.

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
DonnaGS replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its the small things that count! I don't look like I'm 12 months pregnant anymore. Good news the stall out that was happening, is finally over after 5 weeks! Finally dropped 3 more pounds, I'll take it. My hair is falling out like there is no tomorrow. Like a handful every time I brush. I know this is normal, I expect after the first 6 months it will lighten up. I'm at 4 months. Take all my vitamins. Even take a fish oil supplement because it works so good for my dogs fur, thought I'd try people fish oil. The jurys still out. -
Hi everyone! I’m having the sleeve on July 21. My two-week liquid diet starts a week from tomorrow.

Any August 2022 buddies out there??
SHORTY_ replied to Connie88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
See that's what is kind of throwing me for a loop, according to the booklet I received I am able to have additionals aside from liquids. I have my final group nutrition class in a few weeks so I'll get more information then. Just surprised I could have more than liquids. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Any August 2022 buddies out there??
heartofmercury replied to Connie88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is scheduled for August 8th. The doc office I'm going through has a program where you come in and weigh 3 weeks before your surgery. If you are within 5 pounds of your pre-op goal then you only have to do the liquid diet for one week before surgery. If not, you have to do two weeks of liquid diet. On their liquid diet you can only have clear, sugar-free liquids and 4 shakes per day made with the protein powder they sell at their office mixed with milk or Mootopia (protein milk substitute). That's it. Needless to say, I'm really aiming to be in that range where I only have to do one week of the liquid diet! Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Is there a Multivitamin and calcium citrate over the counter?
tdm7913 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I today ran out of my vitamin starter pack from my Dr. I plan on ordering a package plan around the 5th of July (waiting for payday). I am not sure why or how I waited so long to get more. 🙄 So my problem is I need to get something that I can take for a week or two until my bariatric vitamins come in. Does anyone know how I might can find something? Thank You, Tracy (RNY gastric bypass 5/23/22) -
My surgery is on July 8th and I started my pre op diet on 06/24 and for me I’m on my 6th day and I don’t even like the liquids anymore I am tired of them already, when I first started they were really good like I could chug them lol however at this point I’m forcing myself to drink the protein drinks cause I don’t even get hungry to drink those anymore but my surgery is about a week away so I’m almost there and know I can do it, I know you will be able to as well!! Good luck!

What about soups? I'm 6 weeks out and can pretty much eat anything right now but for some reason tomato soup is my go to (aside from varying the flavor of the protein shake I'm drinking). But definitely talk with your team, seems pretty restrictive to me. I wish you lots of luck!

I started mines last week the 6/24, and I most say the first or third day I was getting so frustrated because seeing someone or Family member eat while you only aloud too have liquid for the last 2 week… it was hard for me but after the fourth day I wasn’t so Bad I’m on my Six day and I’m okay now it don’t bother me at all… but I WISH I CAN EAT SMH

Deb2022 replied to sjstanford's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Day 3 of my liquid diet and I am surprised how good it’s going.. it’s not easy but I thought it would be a lot harder than it is. One week to go ! -
I felt pretty tender through day four. Day 5, I woke up and felt so much better. I went to work and did great. Now my only discomfort (1 week out) is just upon standing initially and when my 3 y/o or dog steps on my stomach.

Am I doing this right am I broken?
FutureSylph replied to It'sAlbright's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Absolutely normal. Just white-knuckle it through the first few weeks (I recommend trying various activities to distract yourself), and I practically guarantee that a month from now, you'll feel a lot different. -

Five days ago you had major surgery. Give yourself time to heal. As others have said, the first few weeks suck, but it's not forever and you will in time eat normally. But while your stomach is healing, you have to soldier through the program and hit your protein, water and vitamins. If you need something that isn't sweet, try something umami like a miso soup which will count towards your fluid intake. The sweetness of protein shakes and water drove me nuts, but I managed to offset it in those early weeks with small amounts of savoury liquid soups and unsweetened matcha lattes made on protein fortified soy milk. It's not fun, but it's doable, and you'll be onto the solid phase in no time. -
Chips and salsa and bad eating day
doobie31 replied to Brittneykdelacruz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not the best decision in the world, obviously. But 3 at a time throughout the day - imagine what it would've been like before the surgery. The backstop worked and now you can get right back to work. And yes, the salsa isn't bad at all. As a newbie to this (one week post-op), this is actually a very encouraging story - thank you. -
Tastebuds are usually out of whack in those early months. Anything remotely sweet made me feel sick, and I couldn't stomach the protein shakes. I found ONE protein water that I could get down. Was it nice? Hell no. Was it a struggle? Sure was! But I made myself drink it. I got additional protein from protein fortified soy milk that I added matcha powder to for a nice unsweetened matcha latte. That's how I got my protein in post-surgery. I could barely eat for the first three months, so I do know how you're feeling. But you have to soldier on through the early phase, even though it sucks. You have to drink your protein even if there's zero pleasure in it. I would often have to lie down after my protein water because I'd feel light headed and odd. It does get better, and the crappy phase isn't forever. Try to remember that. You'll get back to enjoying food and drink faster than you think you will.

Struggling hard 3 weeks out
Arabesque replied to Ailurophile's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No it’s not unusual for things to taste gross. Our taste buds can temporarily change after surgery. Things we enjoyed can suddenly taste awful & food we never liked can be delicious. Definitely try some soups. Soup seem to make you feel like your eating something more substantial. And warm liquids often are more soothing. I even used room temp or warm water to make up my shakes. Some meats can be hard to tolerate - chicken breast is the worst but others struggle with beef. I found minced meats the easiest to eat. I never understand the chew, chew, chew thing - it seems to make the meat dry & tasteless. Glad I wasn’t told to do it. Take small bites (a level teaspoon or less) & ensure the meat is very fall off the bone tender & moist. Use gravies & sauces. Yoghurt smoothies helped me reach my fluid & protein goals. Blend up a high protein yoghurt with milk to a thin easy to drink consistency. You may be in a bit of a vicious circle at the moment too. You feel nauseous so you don’t eat or drink. But not eating or drinking can make you feel nauseous. You may be dehydrated too which is a concern. What colour is your pee? If it is a darker yellow, you’ll need to go to your local medical centre for a fluid transfusion. Try a different anti nausea med. Most are quite small tablets so you should be able to swallow them at three weeks. I’m sorry your surgeon hasn’t been more supportive. And yes, definitely see if you can find a dietician. -

Major life changing surgery was 5 days ago! Don’t be so hard on yourself! Your body needs to adjust. Right now it is saying “WTF?” It might take a few weeks. Once you can start eating more solid food it should get easier. -
Stall out and depressed
fourmonthspreop replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I dont measure myself but I have like small goal clothes I try on periodically that are always looser when I do. I do feel though my body hasn't changed much in fact the last 3 weeks....mostly I look in the mirror and still see a 340 lb girl. Physically though I feel a lot better, ive had a surplus of energy but with the bipolar depression, mentally i have been just wanting to sleep all day thr past week. But i get up and down off the ground with ease, can run without getting out of breath, can do stairs without getting out of breath, and my knee pain is a lot better although the past week it's been flaring up which is causing me pain and discomfort. I know Physically I'm a lot better off but when that number doesn't change, I get really low and filled with despair. I need to adjust my thinking and be more accepting that the journey isn't linear. I wish my brain wasn't so messed up. Gratitude and greatfulness is everything. I am trying so hard to internalize that. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -

The first few weeks are brutal, especially the parts that are all liquid. You'll get through it. But maybe try drinking warm broth (bone broth has more protein than regular broth), soups, etc. They're warm, which can make things easier, and can also help you get your protein in. -
How long after gastric sleeve are you at risk of getting Dumping Syndrome ?
ShoppGirl replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doctors are all over the board about caffeine. Some people are never asked to quit while others are told they are not to have it again for life. Most people are told some time frame whether it’s a month or three months, etc.
