    Am I doing ok

It is so good to read your post and remember what i was doing at day 4. I feel so good now, It is so easy to forget. You sound about right to me at day 4, especially the fear of messing things up. It's a scary time but in my experience the fear passes but took me about 3 months before I relaxed and "felt" everything was going to be OK. For me it was a steep learning curve to learn a new way to eat/drink. Baby steps. Everyone kept saying to me-follow the doc's orders and everything will be fine. Complications are rare. Best to you on your new journey. I am so excited for you.
  2. I'm 3 weeks in and I wake up in the mornings feeling like crap! Is this normal? Any tips?
  3. Im post op 3 days and my doctor already has me on pureed foods already. Is that okay because many of you guys have been on liquid diet for about 2 weeks two a mknth and I've only been on it for 3 days also some soups and some yogurt especially the sugar free pudding and the cheese have carbs in it but I've been looking for foods that have low carbs. Is it okay to have that little amount of carbs?
  4. I was still up 11 pounds one week after surgery. The next week when I weighed I was down a pound or two. I was glad to be so well hydrated.
  5. Hello, I was banded a year ago yesterday! I remember the first few times on the elipitical - was difficult. I think the "backwards" may have put alittle more pressure in the port area - I don't think you would have done any damage - just be careful & stick with going forward for another few weeks. Enjoy your band!!!! Sharon

  8. Ok...here goes... this is what they told me to do... (I know every doc is different, but here's to variety:) For 2 wks. after surgery: liquids - - hot or cold (tea, Water, sugar-free popsicles, crystal light, slim fast, broth, some juices) - - - NO straws!!! - - but remember that consistency needs to be liquid - - even though we don’t want to use straws (because they allow us to bring in too much air), we want the selection to be liquid enough that we would be able to suck through a straw (figuratively). Also included: creamed Soups (strained - - no chunks - - no meat), thin smoothies, Eating with spoon ok, but NO CHEWING FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS Week 3: Advance to pureed diet, so anything you had in wks. 1 and 2 are still acceptable but you can add the following: Yogurts, sugar-free pudding and Jello, scrambled eggs (not dry), baby food, smoothies, grits, very creamy mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc. Week 4: Advance again, so anything you had in wks. 1 – 3 are still acceptable, but you can add soft canned vegetables and fruits and soft casseroles NO BREAD AT ALL FOR THE FIRST 4 WEEKS. Week 5: Add back regular diet slowly.
  9. It's been a couple of weeks since I posted, so here's my update. I finally got all of my weight loss study paperwork sent to my surgeon and they told me to go have my blood work re-done before they would submit to insurance, just to be safe. I went and had that done yesterday (they got it on the first stick!), they said it would just be a couple of days then they will fax to surgeon! I'm so nervous about insurance approval now it's ridiculous. I'm terrified they will deny me again bc I only maintained on the study, the weight just wouldn't come off. I would weigh in the morning and have lost 7 lbs, then by my afternoon appt it would all be back even if I didn't eat ???????? I'm so close now, I just can't give up! Anyone else have crazy nerves about insurance approval? I think this is the worst part for me. Sent from my SM-T530NU using the BariatricPal App

    Final pre-op requirement done!

@ Were you previously denied? I can't imagine you will have difficulty getting approved. I was nervous and there was no need to be. I called the week after it was submitted and the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office said "oh yeah - that was approved right away". I suggest you check back in with them in the next couple of days to make sure it got submitted and to find out a status. Don't hesitate to call insurance and ask them too. Fingers crossed!
  11. I've lost about 4lbs this month but stalled for the last 2-3 weeks. I know that it's been socializing and not having as much control over my food. I know I haven't worked out enough. I need to get back on treacle! I'm down about 53lbs on 5 months.
  12. Looking for friendly sleevers in Chicago to be sleever/workout buddies with. New to Chicago and do not know anyone who has had this procedure! Looking for support and friendship. I'm IN Chicago, not in the suburbs. Sara

    Size???

I'm told it's physically about the size of a half of your hand, but of course it can stretch a little to accommodate food. The capacity is intended to be about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup, but as food moves through the bottom opening it's very common for people to be able to eat more than that before they have good restriction. Is that what you meant?
  14. I have had the band for about 3 years now and I decided about a year ago to work on writing a book about it. I try to write it from the perspective of a patient, not a doctor. I am a technology teacher by profession but I have placed my book on my website. If you want to check it out, it is $15.00 and can be downloaded. My website is http://www.vtmag.com . Look under the Products area for more details about what it covers. Hope this helps!:scared:
  15. Everyone is different. There is not even an average really from what I've read on the boards for over 2 years. For me, I was stuck at 2oz of dense Protein until I was over 4 months out. I stuck to mushy/soft protein such as deli meat with cream cheese, chili, ground meats with some sort of sauce, chicken/tuna/egg salad well into my 3rd month post-op because I could get in the calories and protein goals without having to use shakes which made me puke so I stuck with what worked. I was moved to "regular" food on week 4 of my post-op diet, but I really had a tough time getting in a decent amount of food until 3.5-4 months out. I could eat puree meats, or chili, or meats with some sort of condiment, so those are little tricks I used to get in more protein from food sources. Some don't really struggle after the first 6 weeks, or they just supplement with shakes. I didn't have that as an option so I stuck with what worked for me. A lot of it was also the fact that I did have a leak and lost additional stomach tissue with my revision from the band so I had more trauma than most, but then there are others that report the same thing and they had zero issues with their sleeve nor had any complications.

The things I need to know.....

§ Start getting in better shape. I walked, lifted, and did as much as I could 5 times a week getting ready for surgery. § Started practicing eating slower for lunch. § Watched many videos, talked to people who had been through it. § Oh, but best work was preparing for the mental changes with my therapist and worked through this book: http://www.amazon.co...=bariatric book § I drank a great deal of alcohol so I weaned myself off and slowly cut the caffeine. § Followed the pre-op diet to the letter § Shopped two weeks before surgery for the foods I would need for the first two weeks. § Revised my will and power of attorney just in case something went wrong § Tried pureed meal ideas before surgery so I had some meal plans.

    Weight to go!

I've stated making the changes that needs to happen to assure me when I get the band that well I use it to the best ability I can, including exercise. I usually do 6-9miles a week and just picked up some weight lifting to hoping have abs someday and toned arms. Do you have any suggestions on how they stated exercising and gradually worked there way up to where you are today? Its amazing how some of you guys look and I know that exercise will help me get to my goal. Please help!
  18. Thanks, Ladies. after 4 weeks of liquids these things all sound yummy. Good luck to you as well. Tina
  19. I am 9 days into my 15 day pre op diet and I feel like things might be going down hill right now. My paper work states hunger will disappear around the 3 day mark, this has not happened at all but began to get stronger and more painful. I am very lethargic, so much so that I can not drive. Then this evening I start hearing and seeing in tunnel like vision and sight. Is this normal for what I am going through. I do not want to call my doc if this is normal.
  20. Help, I am 6 1/2 weeks post op and continue to experience left shoulder pain almost every day for 2-5 hours. I don't know what brings it on, happens before OR after eating. And I haven't figured out what to do to get it to go away. I tried Ibuprophen, tylenol, heat, massage, standing, sitting, laying. Any ideas? My doctor said maybe there was some swelling under the diaphragm that causes the refered pain but didn't know why, said the surgery went perfectly? Have I traded one problem for another? Diane:help:

    Post Op 3 1/2 Weeks

I wanted to know if anyone else has felt very nauseas with diarrhea 3 weeks post op. I called my doctor and he told me to go back to bland or liquid diet for a week, he said it could be a bug that I caught or I had some fruit and he said it probably it was too much sugar in my stomach and irritated it. The nausea is the worse along with the dry heaving. Please any suggestions about this issue and how long did it last.

    My sister is a yo-yo!

So- my sister &family are coming for a visit this week. She, like me, has struggled with her weight most of her life. I have always been the heavier of the two of us (still am). I guess about a year or so ago she started this pre-package soy diet plan from her local hospital. She did great and was really looking good and then life happened and she gained back 20+ lbs. Now, she is back on her "diet food" and is bringing all of her meals with her and says that is all she will be eating. Not long after I got the band, I realized that I will no longer refuse to celebrate life, events, birthdays, ect... having to be excluded food wise. I can have a little of whatever and not worry about. I may go up and down a few lbs but I have a great tool to help me keep it under control. I have been on a plateau for 2 months now and although it is frustrating, I am not devastated and know it will pass and I will start dropping lbs again. I will not yo-yo but make healthy choices and enjoy those treats once in a while. I am glad I will be able to take vacations in the future and not have to take "diet" food with me. I hopefully can learn to make great food choices from what is available to me.

You lost an average of 4.5lbs a week and you're not happy with it? That is very good weight loss!
  25. Well its spring time and I was wondering if you all are late starters on exercise cause i am just now trying to get more into exercising and it is tough. Does it really improve your weightloss. I was banded aug 24 2006 and had my first fill in oct 2006 with no restriction and here it is march 2007 and have had four fills and only lost 32lbs. 221 to 189 and i am 5 3, is this normal or very slow? I have a 4cc band. Talk to you later .:embarassed: RJB
