    No longer "obese"!!!

That's so exciting! Congratulations! That's a Big Deal! I've got 10 more pounds to go to be "overweight"
  2. My original goal weight was 180 set by both the surgeon and myself. I made goal my first year and then I set the 170 goal which I have also made and stayed under for the last few months. I have lost approximately 90 + % of my excess weight. I wear a size 10 jeans and med tops and am comfortable where I am, although sometimes part of me says I should get to 155 for the normal BMI. The other part says if I didn't have the extra skin I would be there, sigh.

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

Hey All! I had my VSG on Wednesday, 7/31. Had a hernia repair along with it. Hernia repair pressure was intense, i remember waking up with it in PACU, Nurse gave me a shot, it went away and I barely remember the ride up to my room and then drifting in and out for several hours. I was discharged on 8/2. Had pretty much just incisional pain, occasional bouts of nausea out of the blue, no heaving or vomiting. Definitely had some esophageal spasms for about 4 days but those have went away except for a random one here or there. Had to journey to the mall on saturday 8/3 with my girl scout troop (my daughter is a daisy and I'm one of the leaders) for their build-a-bear party. Spent a total of 3 hours there along with my son doing the girl scout stuff and school clothes shopping for both kiddos. It feels like I've been on the go for the most part since surgery. Energy level is a bout the same as it was pre-op. I've pretty much slept on my tummy since the 2nd night home. Monday after surgery I turned a corner- haven't taken any nausea or narcotic pain meds since then. I've been able to take normal size drinks since then as well. Getting a protein shake down daily. Total fluid intake is anywhere from 35-60 oz a day- just depends. The hospital gave me instructions of full liquids until my 2 week post-op appointment. I was struggling with that the end of this week- everything is sweet- shakes, popsicles, jello, flavored water. Okay with broths but with little to no protein content I tried adding protein powder to it and while it doesn't alter the taste very much it was like drinking gravy and I couldn't do it LOL. And some soups are just not meant to be blended down. Friday night i figured I was going to push my luck since I've tolerated some thicker, blended soups and went and got some refried beans- The restaurant I got them from serves them very mushy, almost like a thick soup that the broth has simmered off. Trialed 1/4 cup over 20+ minutes. Oh my gosh, amazing. It hit the spot and since then my protein shakes have been way more tolerable. I have my first followup on Thursday where i'm sure i'll be updgraded to soft texture foods. My best friend had her VSG 2 weeks before me, same MD and hospital, given the same instructions, and at her 1st post-op they asked her how she was doing on soft foods and she was like "they told me full liquids for 2 weeks until I saw you." So if we are able to transition to soft foods after a week or 10 days the hospital lost that in their discharge teaching and printed instructions. As for results so far I went into the hospital weighing 234. Came home weighing 237 and as of this morning I was 223. 14lbs if you count the water weight, 11lbs going from my pre-op weight. Can't wait to see where this journey takes us!

  7. My doctor told me that if I did not follow the liver shrinking diet to a T, he would have to move my liver out of the way to get to my stomach which would result in additional pain. I followed his instructions and did not have any extra pain aside from the large incision where my stomach was removed. He said that incision has the most stitches to prevent a hernia, thus the pain when moving/stretching/walking. When they did the leak test, it did not show my stomach attached to my rib [emoji119]. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 265 CW 250 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Hello Lovelies, got back from cruise yesterday. Day 8,9 and 10. Couldn't cook a meal on the ship, I drank water because I had to from trekking in the heat in Bahamas with rambunctious kids!! I did smile a lot on the cruise, first because it's my happy place but also because I am a "smiler" so easy challenge. As for the exercises: It's safe to say I NEVER made it to the fitness center......I did walk past it on the way to the spa. But I didn't do any exercises. I returned home and gained 3lbs which I sincerely know was better than my expectation. Day 11: I listened to my all time favorite playlist at the gym today while daydreaming about my journey to goal weight! Yoga class is in 10mins and I plan to attend. Thanks for the accountability all, it helps... Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. I hope everyone is doing well. I am very happy with my result. I am logging food and exercising about 5-6 days a week, a combination of spinning and weight training. My advice is to stick with the program whether the weight loss is fast or slow. The excess weight happened over time, so will the weight loss. Remember exercise is your friend!! Surgery date 4/29/19 Starting weight -260 Weight day of surgery -244 Current with -195
  11. Well, first of all, so sorry you sprained your ankle! I did thar a few years ago and know how painful it is. As for walking after surgery, are you asking how much walking you'll have to do on your sprained ankle? You will likely get up every hour and make a few laps around the hospital floor. This is important and not optional. Then once you're home, you will be expected to walk as much as possible. For me this started out at 10-15 minute walks 2 times a day, and then increased as I could tolerate it. Maybe wrap your ankle for support, and go slow. Best wishes both for healing up your ankle and for your upcoming surgery! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

We had our 1 month post op weigh in Friday. Before we had this surgery we made a pact that if we were spending all the money to do this we were DOING IT “like a boss”. Following the plan, working the program, working our asses off in the gym, and leaning on each other for support when we need it. When one feels too tired to work out or too lazy to meal prep properly the other pulls them back. We push each other every day and I can’t imagine having gone through this alone without that support. Surgery Day 7/9/19 - 340 & 290 lbs Friday 8/9/19 - 271 & 241 lbs Total loss since surgery- 68 & 49 lbs

    OLDER peeps (50+) exercise

I have almost no body fat left. At my heaviest, 10 years ago, I was 260. I'm at 115 now. As you can imagine (even with very little fat left) I have a lot -- they tell mw 12 lbs -- loose skin in all the areas you would expect. At nearly 55 years old, my skin has done better than I expected but its still a mess especially in my bottom, breasts and thighs and arms. Occasionally, I do pull-ups to tighten my arms and core. At this size, with this much extra skin, there is no firm to be had in the loose areas. It's not in the cards. I knew this going in. I consulted with a plastic surgeon long before my sleeve and he was very frank with me. He said that there was no getting around what was going to happen and that the smaller I got the worse the hanging curtain appearance of my rump and thigh skin would be. He correctly predicted that my DD's would completely deflate...that my breasts would be awful. Because my breasts would disappear, my back and side skin would begin to drape , too. He also predicted that my belly skin skirt would not be a tremendous factor and likely absorb (it mostly did) but that my abdomen would be wrinkled and soft. He told me that my arms would not fair well but that they would do far better than my thighs. He did tell me that if I was diligent in eating high protein, my body would maintain muscle well. He based all of this on the general make up of my body, the condition/elasticity/density of my skin, and my general muscle tone. None of it had anything to do with predicted exercise. I had a neck lift last year. I couldn't live with that extra skin.

Hi Nay143, how are you? I had the gastric sleeve surgery 2 months ago in June 2019. How is your progress going? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Welcome to all our new participants! Yay!!!! We don't even care if you're pre-op. Your menu and insights and path are valuable to us all and help so many people!!! We all need inspiration--even if it's "What Not To Do at Almost 18months Post Op When Out For The Day With Friends" !! (As yesterday's menu will serve as a visual aid. LOL. I'm so lucky to have the scale stuck at 135lbs and not have it go up after a day like this. But hopefully, you will see from this day that I do have days where I either eat, or eat craptastically and go over on my cals for losing in a huge way--including all manner of contraband foods that do not encourage health--but offer HUGE hedonistic food reward! This morning although I'm not hungry yet, I have a big desire for more hedonistic shenanigans. I don't (am not ready) to eat my first meal of the day, but I don't feel like staying in and working or having a "work day" round the house. I want to be out with people and friends--and at the end of it--I want to have some kind of hedonistic meal. After a day like yesterday which is more than 1 day of Feasting during the week--I want MORE and MORE and MORE off plan days. That's the trouble with cheat days and my personality type. I do better with structure and rules and continuity and low reward, clean foods. My thoughts settle down, and normalize and I don't have these huge swings of cravings and head hunger. Cuz even though yesterday was fun, I did not feel "awesome" after eating! In fact, I felt heavy, bloated, crampy colon (BAD) and nauseated. I had my support meeting yesterday and my RD (who has known me since before surgery) told me that I needed to step back a stage and should not be adding fiber. I need to go back to soft diet/full liquid diet for the next 2 weeks until I see my surgeon for my check-up. I will see my doc for my 18 month follow-up + the f/up for the twisted gut/hernia surgery. And RD and I both think that my gut is not back to normal yet and may still be having issues. So00000oooooo, ugh, back on a soft diet starting today. She said that until my gut is moving with normal motility it's asking for problems to dump a bunch of fiber into it and not helpful to make it "scrunch" and "churn" and "work" as hard as it has to with a normal diet. Can I just say yesterday I was in complete denial and had HUGE cognitive dissonance! Oh well--today I WILL reign my wayward 2 year old in and put the brakes on her giving her structure and education!!! Will report how I succeed tomorrow! 5'4" 👵 17m PO (WLM) 135.0lbs (post-poopy) Saturday August 10 Menu: B1 - 6am - Protein latte (8oz decaff + 4oz PP Chocolate + grd cinnamon) (58cals + 1g nc) L1- 1:30pm - Texas BBQ -- no sauce (estimated: 1.5oz lean brisket + 1.5oz lean pork rib + 1.5oz p/b smoked sausage + 3bites green beans + 3bites potato salad (no sugar) + 1 onion raw (single ring) + 3 dill pickle slices + 1/4 pickled jalapeno) (340cals + 11g nc) L2- 2:30pm - decaff + 2oz sugar free International House Vanilla Coffee Creamer (80cals + 4 nc) AS-5:00pm - estimated -- 2oz rustic Italian pagnotta bread + 1tbsp evoo + 1 glass cabernet (360cals + 28g carbs) D - 7:00pm - estimated - 2.25oz boiled shrimped shelled deveined (107cals + 2g nc) Dessert - 8:30pm - estimated - 1/8 slice Cracker Barrel sugar free apple pie + 3 bites sugar free vanilla ice cream + decaff black coffee (65cals + 9g nc) BS - 10pm - 10 Snyder's peanut butter stale pretzels + 1 package CM seaweed snacks with sea salt + glass cabernet (200cals + 17g nc) I impressed even myself with this...and I "found" the peanut pretzels in the back of our pantry leftover from a last year family trip to Wurstfest in New Braunfels! Acid Reflux

Oh it is, it is. Have been takng it every 6 hours since October 12th 2018, did it work? Well I have had 10 EGJ since then, the last was June 12 2019, strides have been made, but a month ago my surgeons CNP/APN. Valerie told me since I w8ll be 1 year on September 5th, enoogh time has passed SHE HAS DECLARED Me CURED. Is this correct? Doubtful? Do I believe my case was treated poorly? Probably but since m6 a surgeon not that interested, had last endoscopy with my gastroenterologist in my town, because they were not sure super- interested in scheduling another at OSU. All Dr Upchurch told me was jejunem looks scarred but healed. In the meantlme like a good little girl I chug the Carafate slurry down 6am- Noon-6 pm- Midnight, luckily with my co-pay it is $6,30 month instead of the $200-300 over the counter, Wal-Mart and Big Pharma Happy, Frustr8 equally peeved and angry and sad about my treatment. I call it Indifference and neglect, when I complained in Late May i was told. by a nurse, no less, to seek Mental Health consult at my County Mental Health organization, the suggestion STILL STINGS even these months later. But my next clinic Appointment is this Wednesday the 14th, guess I SHOULD BE THRILLED I actually get an opportunity to face- to- face complain. if I want. A sad facet, I have lost down to 188 pounds, and that may be all They will Center on, not paying attention to what I Say, and now according to their stated policy I am only mandated to SHOW UP once yearly. Was I a Fool,to trust these people and this facility? Probably so but I am on Medicare/Medicaid, the first group don't CARE- the second not much AID- they still chunked the money out, but did I get healed for their benificance? Nope feel insignificant and ignored.Yes I am thinner, Healthier? IDK but Whoopie Bing Bong I AM STILL ALIVE maybe they think they kept me from dying and that is sufficent unto the DAY. To paraphase one of my 60s songs YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER- PERHAOS YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO BE UNKIND- BUT ABUNDANTLY OBVIOUS- I WAS THE LAST THING ON YOUR MIND. Sad👎😥😪 Isn't It?
  21. Today I am having Breakfast 1 egg scrambled and 2 or 3 slices of bacon Lunch 3 oz stuffed pork chop and asparagus ( last night leftovers ) Dinner teriyaki chicken with rice ( 3 oz chicken, 1/4 cup rice, 3 to 4 pineapple chunks ) If I have a snack it will be Chobani key lime yogurt and/or almonds. If I cant finish a meal ( which happens a lot still ) I go back and finish it later. Totaling everything up with the yogurt I am hitting 841 calories. 72 carbs 29 fat 71 protein . Sure does seem like this should be more than 841 calories and this is why I quit tracking. I would make sure I was getting in 1200 to 1500 calories and my weight would stay 10 to 15 pounds heavier then I am now when I tracked. I quit tracking this past Christmas and I still get my protein, so I happy.
  22. I had this problem for a year and it was pretty severe . Most foods bounced back with slime . Even water could only be taken by sipping . Eventually had an infill , 4 m taken out of an 8 m fill = instant relief , no acid no vomit no night cough etc etc full nights sleep BUT , 10 pounds gain - eating everything in sight 😡

    Frustrating weight loss

I lost about the same rate you are currently, it really felt slow and yes it was frustrating. I had surgery on 8/13/18 at 204 pounds, on 10/8/18 I weighed 186.6 . If I did my math right that’s about 14 weeks? (I’m horrible at math lol) I personally think adding calories is crazy, I just stuck with it and tightened up my diet and exercise. Journal down everything you eat, I kept under 800 calories, avoided processed food and drank a ton of water. I didn’t get serious about exercise until I was about 6 months in because I really started slowing down, then I kicked it up a gear the weight continued to come off again. I never lost quickly and a 2 pound week was huge for me. I got to goal (I’m currently 130) last month, I had to fight for every pound it wasn’t easy, but it has been worth it. I don’t take it for granted. You got this.

    50 and Up Sleevers

@Healthy_life2 thanx for the "revival" - I feel like singing !!! i was sleeved one month shy of turning 58 years old, 7+ years later, i am 65 years young!! used to be 5'3" - now i stand 6' feet TALL!! (still cute as a button!!) inherited kidney problems from dad - about 15 years ago🙁, good looks from mom LOL Dialysis started one year ago -no prob - no pain - sleep fine, "hooked" up in bed at night for 10 hours.(hmmmm, sounds kinky😉) dialysis then does its stuff and i'm good to go. (small catheter in stomach / attached 30' hose) i can reach/walk to the bathroom - phew!!! (hmmmm - probably TMI, but when you are in renal failure - your kidney functions - urinating - decrease/STOP) buttt unfortunately you still feel that need/urge to go to the BR (you try, but will be unsuccessful) i eat like a "normal" person, Moderation used to be a big problem. all good now - watch how and what i eat, i no longer keep track of my day with MFP - but i am very mindful of what/how much i eat & drink, calories etc. weigh daily after i shower- weight fluctuates 5+ lbs here and there GOAL - was 130 - now 135-140. NEVER have gone over that dreadful # of 140. that's my story and i'm stickin' to it. 🤣 (film at 11:00, coming to a theater near you!!) hugggggs to all my BP family holding a glass of water up to your/our health kathy
