    Gas pain

I was 3/21 and had that for about a week. I'm 10 days out now and it's mostly gone ( only a couple times a day now, if that). It gets better! I found that taking gas x and then walking while drinking helped a lot.
  3. Hey MominCanada, welcome and thanks for sharing. I had an ESG in November last year in Houston. I checked out Dr. Marvin and was confident in him, you should have a good experience. Stalls, great question, we all have them and there is usually more than one in my experience. It's a large change that our bodies are going though and each body reacts differently, it's not a linear process. I had a stall for 10 days where I didn't lose any weight, gained 1 pound and then afterwards in 2-3 days lost 3 pounds. Difficult for me as an engineer to explain. Water consumption and keeping it high seems to have something to do with it, see several recent posts in ESG forum. A number of us have had stalls, gone back and increased our water intake back >60-80 ounces per day and continued to lose weight. I have a goal >> than 20% weight loss and am about half way there. I would encourage you to discuss your goals clearly with Dr. Marvin and ask his opinion with your specific body size/shape and goal is ESG the best way to go. I had this same discussion with my Dr. and concluded VSG or ESG would work (I did not want something temporary like balloons) and eventually chose ESG due to the simpler procedure and quicker recovery time. My diet is very similar to a ketosis diet (only smaller portions) and when I have my blood checked I am deep into ketosis. Typically eating 2 eggs in AM, 3 ounces of protein at lunch and dinner with 1/4 cup green vegetables and 1/4 cup brown rice or pasta. I will do a yogurt for snack in AM and sugar free chocolate pudding for snack in PM. Total 800-1000 calories/day. When I spoke with the dietician we agreed this was very similar to a keto diet. I have the same approach with sharing, other than my wife not talking about procedure with others. I have told them I'm working with a doctor on a very strict diet, with blood monitoring, etc. Diet is focused on on lean proteins and similar to keto approach. So far so good on that front. Keep the questions coming, we're here to help! Please keep sharing it can help so many others! Tex
  4. Hi all, I'm new here and would really appreciate advice! I had the Lap-Band back in 2003. I started out at 515lbs and my surgeon set a goal weight of 350 (expected weight loss for Lap-Band tends to be lower, but the surgery was the right choice for me because I was only 21 when I had it). Anyway, I got down to 295, which I maintained for about 10 years. Most recently I started losing again through food planning and exercise and am now at 279. Lately I am really frustrated by all the sagging skin. It isn't causing infections or major mobility issues (thankfully), but I would really like to experience how my body moves (and looks) with less of the excess. I know some guidelines say a WLS should consider PS after they've lost 40% of their body weight or 100lbs. I've lost 46% of my full body weight, and 236lbs. The issue is that, because my original goal was so high, I have no idea what my target weight would be to make me a candidate for PS. I'm mostly interested in a breast lift w small implant, removal of excess arm skin (which is a lot!). I'd also like a LBL or TT down the line, but there's still a good amount of belly fat, so I don't know if that would be an option for me. I should say that the most beautiful part of this lap band journey for me has been letting go of the idea of ever being thin. I'm 6 feet tall and have a large skeletal frame, and I actually really like my body shape-- I'm just not a huge fan of all the sagging skin. For that reason, I don't really want to have to reach what the CDC recommends as a "healthy" weight for me (which is 136-184lbs) in order to get rid of the extra skin. I don't know that my body will ever reach that range, and I don't really feel like I need it to. I just want to be able to enjoy my body to the fullest now. Has anyone with a very high starting weight had PS while in the 250lb weight range? And do you know of good surgeons in the NY, Philadelphia, or DC areas who are good with high BMI patients? Any insights welcome! Many Thanks! Hope you're all having a great weekend! J'amile

    Phentermine With The Band

I've not tried that one, but I'm taking one who's main ingredient is Hoodia. My sister is taking trim spa and says she's lost 10 to 15 lbs in the last month (she's not banded). I looked up Trimspa online, and the main ingredient is Hoodia, so I picked up a cheaper brand. I just started taking it yesterday. I want some of the appetite suppressant effect, just so I don't have quite as much head hunger, but really I'm interested in the "fat burning" effect it claims to have, so we'll see. I know there are other folks who have used diet pills with the band. And I know there are doctors out there who prescribe them for the period of time between surgery and getting proper restriction.

Well i go to the doctor today. Another fill i would imagine. I am not loosing like i should(at least that is what i think) My weight this am on my scale (yeah totally naked and before i've eaten anything is 215.8) I am curious to see what their scale says. I have been really REALLY good. I have been tracking everything! i eat on my daily plate. I get 1174 calories a day and i have been going to the gym in the am after i drop katie off for her second bus. I do the treadmill for 20 min then the stair walker machine for another 10 min. Oh according to my daily plate if i do that i get about another 150 calories for the day. Sometimes i use it most of the time i do not. I think that this time i am going to make it. I think my head is in the right place now. Before it really was not. HOWEVER i do need more fills because it is my willpower keeping me going not at all my satisfied feeling in my tummy. So once i get that i really should be doing good. I have set a mini goal, i want to lose 15 lbs by the time i go to CA on Feb 14th. Then Sal and i are going into NYC on March 13 14?? I would like to be down another 10 by then so lets see. First goal i should be 200 and second goal i should be 190 ONEDERLAND as everyone would say. I post tomorrow to record my band fill.
  7. I am 1 1/2 years from my banding - and I am still stuck at a loss of 10-15 pounds (due to no fault of the band, lack of effort on my part) I feel like I am the only one that has failed at the lap band. I know that my family and friends (although they don't say much to me) wonder why the h*ll I'm not any thinner. I am absolutely embarrassed to go into public - I live in a small town and most everyone knows that I had the band put in - and I feel like everyone looks at me and wonders why I'm still fat. My daughter's parents' night for basketball is tonight - and although I want to be out there with her, part of me wishes I could hide in the bathroom until the introductions are over. I am really depressed about this. I know that it is my own fault - ice cream, potato chips, calorie laden drinks, etc. I need help bad, and I'm hoping someone out there can relate??? I have post-poned my 1 year check (should've been in May 2008) because I am sooooo embarrassed. I did finally reschedule it for Oct. 17 - and come hell or high water, I'm going. I think this is a huge step in trying to get back on track. Hope someone out there will respond. thanks

    is this only me??

Heck, I can't imagine 3 weeks of liquids! I was only on liquids for 10 days and the last 3 of that, I could have cream soups. Wish I had something to offer to make it easier.

    Frustrated

I have to admit, I weigh almost daily also. I use it both as a barometer of how I am doing AND hoping to see a loss. Unfortunately, I am pretty discouraged right now. I was banded on 3/10/11 and initially lost 9lbs however, when I went onto solid foods I gained back 4-7lbs. (keeps fluctuating) I am trying to watch what I eat but have NO restriction at all. I can eat anything, although I try to make healthy choices. I was just released two weeks ago to have full range of excercise. I have not had a fill yet. When I had my last appointment 6 weeks ago the doctor said it was too soon for a fill. I go back on 5/24/11. Hopefully he will give me a fill. My hope is that once I get filled, I will start seeing progress again. Has anyone gone through this? Is this normal, or did I make a mistake?

  12. Hello all. I am only one pound away from scheduling my surgery. I keep going back and forth between the bypass and sleeve. I am worried about the malabsorption with the bypass and long term success with the sleeve. What were deciding factors for some of you? This keeps me up at night and I want to make the right decision. I am on the lower end of the bmi scale. I think since I lost 10 lbs on my pre op diet my bmi is now below 40.. I have about 90 pounds left that I I need to lose to be at ideal weight. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Hello, Can anyone help on the process of Virginia Premier /Kaiser Medicaid? Some back story: I was furloughed in March and lost health insurance in June. I was a Kaiser member in 2018 before my employer changed health care option and I stopped my Gastric Sleeve process in 2019. Now after Covid I am on medicaid and saw that Norther Virginia offers Kaiser to medicaid patients. Has any gone through this process with medicaid? Can I just pick up where I left off with Kaiser?
  14. I was banded 10/2 and didn't get my first fill until today. My doctor won't do a fill for 3 months after banding. My scale at home said I had lost a total of about 23 pounds but then I weighed in today I was shocked that according to their scale I am only down 16! I've only lost 4 pounds since my post-op visit! I was so mad but know that now I have my fill. My appointment took all of 10 minutes and I was out the door. I went to the mall and started feeling a little sick to my stomach. I think it was the barium I had to swallow for the fluro. My doctor schedules fill once a month so I have an appointment for next month for another one. I'm anxious to see what I can do with this band!
  15. For the past week I've felt bloated and I hadn't had a BM. Tonight at dinner I had the intense urge to buckle over, I had the worst stomach pain for about 10 minutes, so I went to the bathroom. I swear I must've eliminated at least 5lbs of waste. It's like what I had for dinner decided to kick start my bowels and get them moving again. Now I feel soo much better and the bloating is gone. This is the 2nd time that this has happened since surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Frustrated

Try not to worry - this is almost universal. The surgery makes you hang on to water. I was up about 10 pounds right after surgery, then lost a few, then one week I lost 10....maybe 2-3 weeks post op. It's only been a few days, and it will come off.
  19. I am (was) a HUGE pasta eater too. I find since my surgery (4 weeks ago today) on no longer have the cravings for carbs. I do love the cheese, sauce and meat though so I made lasagna with out the pasta and I'll tell you I didn't miss the pasta one bit! Make some small meatballs, 1 1/2 inch in diameter, or a about 2 oz each. Put them in crockpot with a jar of your favorite sauce or home made. Cook on low for 5-6 hours. When done, smash with a fork a meatball, two TBS sauce and throw two tbs of ricotta cheese on top, it's delish! Also, when I am feeling like I want just try some of the foods I'm avoiding, I remind myself that this is the weight loss period so stay focused on why you had the surgery to begin with. If you just can't resist then try a trick a friend of mine who had bypass 10 years ago told me-take a bite, chew it very well and spit it out.
  20. Friday the 13th was my one year anniversary. And...I finally broke down and went shopping for some new clothes. I had no non-work clothes at all to wear and wanted to wear something for a night out with friends. All of my work clothes are hand me downs from another friend of mine losing weight. I decided to skip trying on the size 16s. Even though I thought there was no way I was fitting in the 14s. they looked so small. I have been wearing 16's but they were all light weight "stretcy pants" --and we all know jeans are different! But even though they are all getting big, I was shocked to fit in a size 14. I fit in every pair I tried on and actually got to decide which pair I liked more, and which ones I didn't like...not only just buying the ones that my butt fit into. But--after all this. I don't feel like I'm a size 14. I don't feel like I look that much different, even though it's obvious to me in pictures and in other people's reactions. It's almost funny. When I started this journey I said I would be happy to just fit in a size 14...but now that I'm here, I'm not satisfied. I still feel like a fat chick with a cute face. Now, I've reassessed my goal --to a size 10. OMG.. it's actually a possibility. I'm one of the ones that took forever to start losing. Now that I'm at my sweet spot, 7.1 ccs in a 10 cc band (I only got small fills every couple months and had to wait 2 months before getting the first one), I finally feel the weight coming off. But my question is this...am I supposed to feel skinny now? How should a size 14 feel? I'm still struggling mentally with the loss. I have to realize that everyone's first reaction to me is not, damn she's fat. I have to realize that it's really happening for me this time. Maybe that's why I never bought new clothes...I thought I'd gain it back again??? And now that I'm a year out, maybe it's the realization that this time it's working?? How does everyone else feel after gettin down to a normal size? Sorry for the vent. My hubby just does not understand... Supportive yes, but everyone here really understands. Thanks for listening. Crystal
  21. Do you think you'll really be up for a 10 hour flight and related business obligations only 4 days after surgery? I wouldn't have been....... If you do fly, I'd make sure to get traveler's compression socks, walk a bit up and down the aisles at least every hour. Honestly, if it were me, there is no business worth risking blood clots for and that is your greatest risk sitting in a plane for 10 hours. Not to mention you are still VERY early in your recovery from a MAJOR surgery. Me? Wouldn't do it - but wish you the best if you do

ONE MONTH from TODAY!!! The count down begins.

Well today June 20 marks 28 years of marriage to the most wonderful person I know. My husband, he has been there for me through all my ups and downs and there have been MANY. Over 200 plus pounds lost and gained again, again and again. He loves me and says “I keep exciting him.” How sweet!!! He is a good man no question about that. What would be exciting for me will be to loose the extra pounds once and for all. I know it will be hard and I am ready to work for it. I worked hard for it every other time. I followed Diet Work Shop, WW, Cambridge, Weight Loss clinic, Alli, the SEA Food Diet, You know the one where you SEE FOOD and EAT it. LOL I followed all these to the letter and they did all work for me, maybe they worked for you too? This is what I want... I want to dance. I want to eat normal. I want to think normal. I want to look normal. I want to FEEL normal. I want to see myself as NORMAL. I want to feel sexy again. I want to look sexy again. I want to buy clothes off the rack. I want those clothes to FIT me. I want to be looked at, not look through. I want to be successful. I want off blood pressure medicine. I want off my sleep apnea machine. I want my normal body back, the one I had when I met my husband. I was NORMAL I DO remember how it feels. I HAVE FORGIVEN MYSELF. Do I want MUCH? I think not!! I have made the decision to have Lap Band Surgery. I found a wonderful doctor and he has done other surgery for me. I trust him and he is the best surgeon at this hospital. I am ready. It was suggested to me over a year ago and I still was not ready for it. I am now. The count down begins, My Birthday is July 18 and I will be 53. My New BIRTHDAY band date is July 20, 2009. If all goes as planned. I have chosen not to tell everyone, only my husband, son almost 21, daughter 19 and sister who had GBPS 7 years ago that changed her life, that I am having surgery. I have 100 percent support on this. I do not want to answer all the questions. I have thought long and hard on this. There is a RIGHT time for everything. I have enjoyed reading and learning from everyone on this site. This site is amazing! I find myself not eating because I am at my new computer. That is a plus. Best wishes to all the BANDSTERS out there. Thanks for all the support. imaluckydog Kathy
  23. Hello! I'm not banded yet, going through the insurance/consultation process, but I'm trying to change some of my habits ahead of time. I generally consume lots of sweet fruit juices, sodas, sweet tea, etc. and very little, if any water(not a fan). I'm trying to drink water with Crystal Light (the One the Go Packets). Can this count as my 64 ounces of water a day? I know each pack has 10 calories, and I'm keeping that in mind for when I really need to count calories after the surgery. Are there any other non-carbonated/low calorie drinks out their that you guys like? I haven't had a carbonated beverage or sweet tea in a couple of weeks! I'm so proud!

    Day 8 Post Op

Yeah, I ran out of pain meds by day 10. Sitting for any length of time was horrible. I was in so much pain. For me it was the big incision on the left side. Week one, hard to move, get out of bed or sit up. Week two, could roll over but still couldn't lay on my left side. Week three starting to lay on my left side. The pain came and went, but if I got tired I would hurt, or maybe I hurt because I was tired. Week four, I had a few days without pain, then overdid it, and was in pain. This week is no pain. It will get better. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
