  1. Question for those further along...what have been some of your “non scale” victories or changes? Things I’m hoping improve with surgery include things like mobility. At 31, I’m having to rely on a walker to get around. I can’t climb stairs or walk more than 5 minutes without being winded. I can’t bend over to tie my shoes or put on socks. My back and joints hurt all the time. I’m on an extensive medication regime and see many specialists just to stay alive. And of course there’s the more concrete medical things, like having sugars that never drop below the 150s, body being more acidotic, rapidly climbing lipid levels, angina and chest pain, and my extremely high BP that seems to be resistant to meds, climbing risk of cardiac events...plus things like not being able to fit in public places that normal size people don’t struggle with... I’m just so hopeless and sick of this life and am ready to commit to life style changes before during and after the surgery process to start living a new whole life with a much healthier self. I’ve been overweight my whole life. I tipped past 150 before I turned 18 and I remember the pediatrician raising major concerns to my mom about my weight, but because she too was immensely obese and didn’t do anything about it, my weight continued to climb even as a kid. I think the last time i was in a normal weight range was when I was a very young kid...
  2. I have regained a ton of weight back after Covid. I would like to find a great doctor, Nutrionist to help me evaluate my diet and get back on track. It would be nice if they did hormone evaluation too, but not required. Any referrals in Dallas, Richardaon, Plano, Frisco, Allen, or DFW metroplex is appreciated!!!! I want an accountability physician or Nutrionist or dietician. I want to hear your stories. Thanks everyone! Melanie Kirk
  3. "Last hurrah"s or "food funerals" are a normal thing. In the months leading up to my pre-op diet I was baking like a maniac because I enjoy baking, and I knew post surgery I wouldn't be baking much and certainly wouldn't be eating any of it. Cakes and bread (and hokey pokey and vegan meringues - I admit I went nuts!). Had to "get it out of my system", and honestly I did. By the time my pre-op diet came around, I was 100% ready to do it. By the time I was out of surgery and the following fortnight of recovering from pain, my sugar addiction was broken and my taste-buds had changed to dislike super sweet things. So it all worked out. For sure I gained a bit extra during the "food funeral", but I don't regret it. I haven't looked back post-surgery, and now will take the chance to bake for other people the second I can. I don't miss eating it. The pleasure is watching others enjoy it.
  4. You have already proved to yourself that you can do this. You have lost 80lbs. I heard that this can happen. Please try to keep things in check. Better to get on top of this now while the weight gain is minimal. Do you want to go back to where you were? Give yourself the gift of life. You got this. 💗
  5. Question?? Is anyone be sides my self feel like you no longer have that food restriction feeling? I can eat just about anything and everything and I don't like that. I feel like after only 11 months PO I'm just binge eating again. Sugary foods don't bother me, I'm craving for soda that I haven't had in 11 months, I'm always feeling like I want to eat something. I was doing so good and now I have no motivation to keep going. My family always got junk food in the house and I find myself reaching for the bad things again. I've lost 80lbs, and feel like I gained some back. Please no judgement just encouraging words will help [emoji3064] Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

I'm so glad I found this thread. I stall often and I've been stressing about being a slow loser, worrying since I lost weight beforehand that I wouldn't make it to my goal. Nice to see I'm not the only one! HW- 305.4 SW- 256.6 (RNY Jan.18.22) CW- 222.4 Sent from my Pixel 6 Pro using BariatricPal mobile app

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

You're def right! I try not to check my weight every day anymore. Usually every 3 days. I should go less because some days it makes me so frustrated. I also bought a smaller pair of pants that are soooo tight so when I can fit in them or they're loose, I'll know regardless of the number that my weight has gone down.

  9. OMG! Same here I'm due for a hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass on the 27th of April. I've lost 30lbs since December 5th I was 240lbs now I'm down to 211lbs I've got another 77 to go! my whole family keeps saying you don't need the surgery youve got such willpower you've lost 13kilos already you can lose another 13 easily! BUT they don't understand that it's not about losing it's about keeping it off! I've lost many times before but put it back oh after I stopped all the hard work. I've managed to lose 13 kilos with the help of ozempic at the same time which really helps with my hunger pangs, but I know myself the weight is just going to come back on within a couple of months once I stop using ozempic! as my weight is hereditary I put it on very easily I'm just happy that I'm losing before the surgery so it to be quicker to reach my goal weight post-surgery💪😊🙏

    My Day 1 photos

Kudos to you for being able to step out and take photos! I do not have mirrors in my house (on purpose) besides the medicine cabinet mirror. I did that years ago so I didnt have to see a full body view of myself. I now know that was a big mistake because I was unable to see myself and therefore when I became so overweight I did not see it firsthand. Until I allowed a group of co workers to include me in their picture their office pic took. It was then I got the full in your face view of what I looked like and how overweight I had become. I was mortified at it. It was awful! I couldnt believe I allowed myself to get to that unhealthy weight. Hopefully I will think better of myself after surgery and when the weight comes off. Good luck to you and your WLS

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

Glad to hear other people are experiencing the same stall outs and still losing their weight! I stall out every other week. If I eat any Carb its a full week of stalling out and it takes an act of congress to jump back on the band wagon and get going again. Like a lot of people have mentioned, I have osteoarthritis In every joint of my body, plus other issues. So walking, swimming, everything I do has to be in moderation and not everyday. I do weight lifting, but very small weights. It all adds up, it might not be as much as I want, but I realize I'm more active than the average person probably.

I had my surgery on Valentine's Day [emoji3590] I'm officially at 270 as of this morning. I was at 309 when I went in for surgery. I want this damn weight to come off faster but I guess slow and steady wins the race. Its still funny to me being the fat person that doesn't eat anything. Obviously people who know I had surgery don't judge me about that but going to events and stuff with people I'm not familiar with and eating a couple bites of food while weighing 270 lbs is a funny image [emoji1787] Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Yeah, I honestly struggled the most in the beginning of the journey (a bit before my initial consultation) and then extreme struggle right at the end (just weeks before my pre op diet) because of that constant fear that eating was over and done with forever. Yeah...not the case at all but damn does it harbor the food funeral. I honestly wish bariatric centers would offer more emphasis and support in that. I think a lot of people go into it believing surgery means no more enjoying food at all in any capacity...not the case. I had a lot of trouble with overeating a month before my surgery. I was working out like MAD so I didnt gain weight but I wanted to eat everything delicious because I believed that was my last chance. It's literally maybe a month to two months until you can eat relatively normal foods again and it goes by fast. I had my surgery in February and I'm already eating everything again accept bread, raw vegetables and refined sugars. I feel plenty satisfied and enjoy what I eat. One can probably argue all day how to see food post op and how that can benefit your weight loss and weight maintenance but im talking more so about realistic, day to day stuff. For some the all or nothing approach works but for most, it's okay to admit to yourself that you still "enjoy" food while also not letting it take over your life or your weight. I can't stress enough how temporary the extreme dieting is. It's not meant to last. No you can't overeat post op, but you likely won't want to anyway and you can still enjoy a variety foods just like before. When I needed to get back on the horse pre op, it helped to remind myself that it's not a goodbye forever from food, it's a goodbye forever to overeating. Its merely a "see you in a month or two" to solid foods and complex carbs. Lol Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

  18. I think I’ve seen mention of “last suppers” and such on here but I’m wondering if this is normal or just me? My surgery is May 24 and for the last month since I’ve found out my surgery date I have pretty much ate terrible! Since Dec. I’ve gained 8 pounds back but I know exactly why. I just feel somewhat nervous and anxious and…etc. my bad habits that were better are now worse. Is this something that happens before surgery? Am I just broken and need to forget about it? I had done so well but now I’m so worried. Any advice?
  19. I am curious if anyone had a full thyroidectomy prior to weight loss surgery? I had my thyroid removed in 2018 and it is near impossible to lose even a pound. I've tried low carb and exercising regularly but I only lost 2 lbs in 4 months. I am so worried that after my surgery which is tomorrow morning, that I won't lose anything. Please let me know if you have success or not with the sleeve.
  20. I had this in the beginning saw int who told it was due to my rapid weight loss and it would stable it self out I am 14months post gastric by pass and it has settled down my bmi is 23
  21. I looked it up in various places besides what the doc said... this is due to losing large amounts of weight.

    BCBS Choice PPO of IL

The amount of requirements and perquisite's for insurance to cover can be C R A Z Y no matter what state or insurance company you have. I live and work in IL and I have Healthlink PPO. My insurance had no real perquisites per se other than I had to go to 2 seminars for the program. Now I cannot speak for everyone's journey but my own and this is what I came across. Although my insurance had no real requirements to be met, the Dr I chose sure did!! I started my first workshop on Oct 28, 21. Since I already knew my health insurance had little to know requirements I had it set in my head that the week after Christmas Id be scheduled for surgery WRONG lol. I met a nurse practitioner at my Drs office that was like hitting a brick wall LOL. She is awesome dont get me wrong but she set me straight real quick. Depending on the Dr there are loads of tests and other Drs you have to be cleared by first. I mistakenly thought it was my insurance that required alot of this and I couldnt understand why by Feb I still had not been cleared for surgery. This nurse politely informed me that my insurance is not the one that determines the surgery clearance but the DR, they are however the source of payment so a major point to but in my program I had to show I had no weight gain in 6 months/ April was my 6th month since the start. Once I weighed in and still had no weight gain they then sent for insurance approval and like Future Sleeve Diva above, I had approval very quickly and surgery was scheduled within days of that. It can be a long process for some but it will happen in due time. It can be frustrating to have to wait but it will come and when it does then you may start asking yourself if your ready for it lol. PS....I have not had any out of pocket yet except the initial consultation with the Dr ($35) I believe I had 1 other office visit charge of $35 but so far thats all

  24. Hi! Has anyone been diagnosed with Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction due to losing the large amount we lose after surgery? I have it and could not believe losing this weight would cause something like this! The ENT I see is terrific, but I could NOT believe he said I could gain some weight to lessen the symptoms! I'm not even at 25 BMI yet after my revision to Bypass last year! Anyone? What have you experience with this and what did you do to lessen the symptoms? Has anyone had it disappear after the weight was stabilized after a while? Thanks for answering!
  25. Hello, I had Biliopancreatic Diversion surgery back in June of 1983 - in fact I was #86 to have that surgery by my doctor. Since then I have kept the weight off, but have had continual digestion and intestinal issues. I cannot find any doctor (medical or naturopathic) that can honestly address my issues and I am looking for other patients that I might be able to discuss their life after surgery and how they found good competent medical care. I would like to find others that have led a long term "after weight loss surgery" life.
