  1. Everyone is different. I had a revision to bypass. In the clinic for 2 nights. Left with no pain killers and didn't need them. Went apple picking 5 days post op. Needed to take breaks because I got winded easily. But I had my vitamin patches on and I think it helped. I was working from home one week post op and back in the office after 2 weeks.
  2. Anyone have Lap band & plication revised to Gastric bypass? Anyone used the new Oasis Hospital in Tijuana, BariatricPal Team MX???
  3. I always had in mind to reach what the tables say is "normal" BMI for me .. which would make me about 138 pounds. I have never really believed that I could get that low. I should add that my surgeon doesn't give a goal weight .. he says I will know when I get there and that is the right weight for me to be at. Having read this topic I have revised my first goal to 160 pounds. That will put me out of the obese category and into the overweight category for the first time since I was a teenager. Once I have reached that goal, I plan to let my body decide what weight it wants to settle at. Once I am sure it is the right weight for me, then I will start working to make sure I stay within a few pounds of that weight on the upper side. On the lower side ... well I don't want to get into below weight territory but other than that .. I am fine.
  4. I was a patient there. I decided to have a revision, couldn't find a doctor experienced enough in Ontario so I went to Montreal to have it done. Best thing I ever did. Am a little mad at myself for not thinking of it sooner.
  5. Great job . Sounds like you're doing everything spot on, especially checking in with your NUT. I'm only going on 10 weeks post-op revision to sleeve, and I'm so grateful that I had WLS. Keep us posted! ^^
  6. 1. What are/were your biggest challenges during the weight loss process? (insurance, medication, surgery, maintenance etc): Insurance, especially when they stopped covering lap band adjustments That was one of the main reasons I went ahead with the band to sleeve revision. I just couldn't afford $300 per 0.2cc adjustment, sometimes 2 in one week. It was just too expensive for me. 2. What would you like to have different to solve the problems that you need to face? And why? (new weight loss medication, new surgery approaches, more support groups, new insurance plan etc.): Better insurance plans for WLS patients. Although I know they are aware of how detrimental being overweight is, and I am grateful they cover WLS more now... I still feel that they don't cover enough of the additional things (i.e. fills/adjustments, removing extra skin, therapy, post-op shakes for just the liquid phase of healing) that one needs to further maintain their health. It's like helping an addict for one hospital stay and then putting them out on the street with no further help. Some may make it, and others will slide again. If the insurance companies can keep the WLS patients healthy, they would further save on all the future medical problems of those patients. 3. How much money do you spend for weight loss every year? (food, exercise, support groups, medications etc): Over $2K per year but now that I got the revision to sleeve, it'll be less money spent since I don't have to do lapband adjustments but just routine check ups (doctor check ups, Vitamins and other supplements, meds like PPI, Protein powders). 4. How did you learn about the surgery/medications that you had/used/are using? My bariatric center gave me lots of handouts and a book on everything that I need for the revision surgery (band to sleeve). We also had a nutrition class. I also read a lot on the forums (mainly experiences that others feel that are not usually in a book), and read many scientific and clinical studies.

    It’s My 12-Year Surgiversary!

Have you gone back to your surgeon to address your concerns? I would only use a surgeon for follow up that's listed on http://www.lapband.com/LWFindASpecialist . Many Bariatric surgeons are just interested in "cutting" and don't do a good job as Lap-Band surgeons and will suggest an unnecessary weight loss surgery revision. Yes went to see him in may of this yr. Xrays and barium swallow showed everything was fine but he took all my liquid out 2.5. July we did a fill of 1.75, did well and went back in sept to add .25 to make a total of 2.0 in my band. I actually posted earlier sharing my concerns and my journey since being banded and see if anyone maybe were going through the same thing as I am.

  9. I had a band to sleeve revision done on 10/13. I initially dropped about 20 lbs but stopped losing about two weeks ago and have actually gained about 5lbs back?!?!? I'm following all the rules, eating my Protein first, not getting much else in. I know that around three weeks post op you can hit a stall but gaining? I don't even understand how that's possible with the way I'm eating. I'm breastfeeding my almost nine month old daughter, not sure if that's affecting things. Or if my revision is making things more difficult. Either way at almost four weeks post op I'm feeling pretty discouraged and regretting my decision to have the sleeve. Anyone else with similar experience? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  10. Had my surgery sept 22 from lap band to gastric bypass & my weight loss is really slow & im just curious on how things are going for others who had a revision just recently... I heard the weight loss is slower the second time around & im experiencing just that,,, can someone inform me on how things are going for them Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Funny ... I just asked this, question at the seminar and doc said it can stretch...hmmmm. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App VSG revision due to stretching is a thing and surgeons wouldn't offer it if it didn't happen. For example http://www.revisionalsurgery.com/bariatric-revision-surgery/sleeve-revision-surgery/
  12. How did everyone's surgery go? Unfortunately mine didn't go as planned. I was doing a revision and they were only able to remove my lapband, I have to go back on Jan 3 to get the sleeve put in. I'm discouraged and upset, I was mentally prepared for the sleeve and now I'm afraid without my band I'm going to gain weight over the next 2 months especially with the holidays around. Plus the pain from my band is pretty bad and I'll have to go through it all Over again right when I completely heal Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Each weight loss is unique. Do not compare your experience to someone you know had the surgery. Do not make yourself crazy if you are not losing weight as rapidly as she or he is. I am one of the segment that is called The Slow Loser. There was a rumor that I could only expect to lose all the weight I could hope to within an eighteen month window. This rumor cast many slow losers into great despair and panic, seeking revisions, because they didn't see the hoped for results within that window. Luckily for me, I lost my job and benefits about a year after this surgery or I would have driven myself crazy trying to qualify for revisions surgeries. To set this up for you, I did not follow any particular diet. I already was aware that I had dieted myself up to 450 lbs. This surgery was supposed to be a weight loss tool, not a cure. The writing was on the wall when the nurse expressed disappointment that I had lost "so little" in my follow up to surgery about a week later. If I recall correctly it was about seven or eight pounds and I was thrilled before she opened her mouth. But my top weight had been 450 and I had worked my way down to 410 for the surgery. I weighed in at 400 that day. That was in 2004. I am now 200 lbs, literally half the size I was that day. I lost 100 pounds within that window and then it stopped altogether one in 2005. After finding my body totally resistant to everything I tried to do, I resigned myself to the size I was. 300 lbs was still better than 450 lbs. But then, after a few months, I'd get on the scale to find I lost weight. Then I'd get stupid and hopeful and see what I could to to nudge it along. The scale would fluctuate wildly. I'd throw up my hands in disgust and get back to my life. Rinse, repeat. Until I finally started documenting the progress I made. I figured out that I would plateau at every point I started another diet. 300 lbs., 275 lbs., 260 lbs. 230 lbs. 210 lbs. Now 200 lbs. I don't know if I will lose more weight, but if I do the next point set is going to be 185 lbs. So, based on my experience as a slow loser who didn't follow some hard core Atkins regime, I lost half of my weight within that window due to having a much smaller stomach with very little ghrelin and the other half moved off much much slower to the point I averaged about a half a pound a week, all said and done. So, don't panic. Expect to revisit every set point that you started dieting again. You are not as muscular as you think. Most fat people think they must have a huge muscle structure, because they carry so much weight, but if you're like me, you don't realize all the things you did to avoid getting up and moving. Get into a muscle building program before the surgery so you will stay warmer and more energized. You also want to pay attention to your Iron and your Calcium. I finally got this right recently after years of trail and error. So what you want to focus on is staying strong and energetic, not to mention how you look in your clothes. Stay off the scale as much as possible and pay more attention to how your clothes fit. The less bloating and unsightly bulges you have, the better off you are. Hope this helps. T
  14. Congratulations! I am scheduled for my revision on Dec 7th. I've had so many issues with my band that I almost asked for a refund. Lol. Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted.
  15. my doc steered me to bypass. though sleeve was the backup (i'm a revision). He said bypass because they know it works +years. He said sleeves look good and are nearing the 10 year mark but until a surgery has been around 10 years it isn't proven and talked about in the early days of the band it looked good too, but now they know it is not great. I also had reflux so didn't want to go through that anymore. so basically I was already having one revision I didn't want to risk having a second.
  16. lucky. I had to do a 14day liquid diet and based on what i've seen on here the vast majority do have to do it. It is to shrink your liver, so I suggest you stick with it. It is a struggle but you do get used to it. I didn't go home same day. I had to stay for 2 nights (just the practice for a revision). at the clinic I go to sleevers stay 1 night. I'm grateful for the night in the clinic because I had nurses there to ask questions of and help walk or go to the bathroom. a lot of people have nausea so it is good to be able to get medication etc for that. The negative about the clinic I was at was no single rooms and my roommate snored so I would have killed to go home for night two.

    Question for former banders

I'm almost three weeks out from revision to sleeve from the LapBand. I've started feeling better the last few days but I get tired out pretty quick. I'm 53, which may be part of it. I had a ton on scarring, plus an undiagnosed band slip and prolapse. I also needed a hiatal hernia repair (even though it was fixed when the band was placed). I didn't have too much trouble with swallowing right from the start. I moved to puréed on Monday of this week and so far, so good. I can eat one egg scrambled with some cheese melted in, about 1/4 c. of refried Beans. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Absolutely not true. My policy through work covered my VSG in 2014 and my current policy covered my revision to RNY in July which was needed due to severe GERD. So your statement is 100% false. 19. Have never taken a weight loss pill. Never occurred to me. I can speak from personal experience that people revise from a band because of complications. It just doesnt work for a large percentage of people. My band caused acid reflux so bad I would wake up choking and gasping for breath. In the morning I would struggle to get Water through at dinner I had no restriction at all. Then it failed completely and wouldn't hold a fill at all, so I pretty much lit 16k on fire years ago. I should have just done a bypass to begin with. Most people I've seen go from sleeve to bypass are doing it because they developed acid reflux from the sleeve and bypass often cures it My surgeon said that doctors who are still banding should be sued for malpractice because there is enough evidence now to support not doing it.
  20. Not sure what the question is. Did you have your band removed? Did you have a revision? I'm a former banister who had a revision to rny 5 weeks ago
  21. Nope, I don't regret it at all (not my lap band nor my revision to sleeve this year) but having said that, I had an extremely easy recovery. I think if I had issues like some, I'd be feeling similar to the way you feel. I hope you feel better soon.

    Loved ones not supportive.

Montreal as well has great Bariatric surgeons. My doc does the sleeve as well. I traveled from toronto to Montreal for my revision. When I live in vancouver I went to Seattle to get my band...that was 11 years ago

  24. Ask how many of (the surgery you want) they have done. I had a revision which is much more complicated than a bypass or sleeve alone. I could not find any experienced doctors in my province so I went out of province. The doctor I chose had done over 250 was head of Bariatrics at the local university. He explained the risks and his plans should he encounter x..y...or z. He also provided me with his own individual statistics for complications and issue which were significantly better than the average...
  25. Yay! Congratulations. I had my revision to a bypass at the beginning of October. So glad to finally feel normal. Best thing I ever did getting rid of the band.
